Embracer Group has shut down Campfire Cabal as the company begins closing down some of its development studios after announcing a few months back that a deal worth $2 billion fell through. The news was first made on LinkedIn (spotted by X user @bogorad222) by Bruno-Christian Belibou, who, according to his LinkedIn account, was an Executive Producer at the studio before its closure. Embracer Group did not immediately respond to IGN's request for comment. Campfire Cabal opened its doors last September and was founded and led by Jonas Wæver, who also served as the studio’s creative director. Wæver was previously at Logic Artists, where he created the tactical RPG series Expeditions. According to THQ Nordic, the studio would focus on...

If you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3 right now (and going by the game’s popularity on Steam right now, you probably are), you’ll be enjoying the freedom it affords players not just in terms of the story and dialogue, but how you get about the world. Perhaps inspired by this freedom, voice actor Matt Mercer came up with a surprising method of getting to the top of a castle using over 40 wooden crates and an Arrow of Transposition. During a livestream alongside developer Larian’s Swen Vincke, Mercer stacked crates to form a tower his character was able to climb by using the jump ability. At the top of this makeshift tower, Mercer used an Arrow of Transposition to teleport across to the top of Baldur’s Gate’s Counting House. Vincke...
Game publisher Devolver Digital has announced its next digital event showcase, which focuses on delayed games. In a new post on X, Devolver Digital announced its "Devolver Delayed" showcase airs on August 7 at 8am PT / 11am ET, noting the event will be the "first ever showcase celebrating games that are courageously moving into 2024". While game delays are common, it's uncommon for a game developer, let alone a publisher, to put on a showcase dedicated entirely to nothing but games that were delayed for one reason or another. Devolver Digital has form when it comes to quirky showcases, of course. Its E3 / Summer of Gaming presentations are as weird as they are compelling. Here's a round-up of everything announced at Devolver Direct...
I’m standing in front of an airlock door, staring at someone through the glass. I – which is to say, Camina Drummer – am on the right side of the door; the someone I’m watching is on the wrong one. I have a decision to make. This someone is begging me for their life. They’re a fool, greedy and bigoted and incompetent, and a danger to everyone else on board, especially me. But this someone is promising me useful information. They’re swearing they’ll make up for their sins. Do I press the button to let them back inside the ship, locking them in the brig and hoping they won’t find some new way to screw me down the line? Or do I press the other button, vent them into space, and live with the knowledge that I took a life in cold blood for...
Developer Larian is known for having a bit of fun with the End-User License Agreements for its games, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no exception. Baldur’s Gate 3 launched proper yesterday and those who bothered to read its EULA will have noticed section five: “Additional obligations in Eldritch Law.” “Time for a pause, as We understand by now your mind is longing for respite having endured the above numerous provisions of legal jargon,” the EULA reads. “So, setting aside the weighty tomes of sombre legality, embracing a lighter path of ancient customs and mystical decrees that governed the fair folk, please be wary that in accepting this Pact, you agree to refrain from striking a deal with another creature of Fey, Infernal, or otherwise...

Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski has confirmed he's writing another book in The Witcher series that will presumably continue the story of Geralt of Rivia. As reported by Redanian Intelligence, Sapkowski told Ukrainian YouTube channel Fantastic Talk that, while he's teased a potential return to the series for years, he can finally confirm a new Witcher book is on the way. "I never say these things because with me you never know. Maybe I’ll do something, maybe I won’t," Sapkowski said. "So far, when I said that I would write something, and then I didn’t write it, people complained as if I had deceived them and as if I had lied. "That’s why I don’t like to talk about what I’m doing until I finish doing it. Because until I finish it, I...
August is somehow one of the most offensively stacked months of the year for indie games, and it’s almost a bit much. Seriously, could we all just chill out a little bit? Baldur’s Gate 3’s full nudity is giving unsuspecting players a bit of a shock, particularly at the character creation screen. Right at the start of Larian’s sprawling role-playing game, a warning pops up asking you if you want to turn nudity off. But even with nudity left on, there’s scope for a surprise eyeful. Baldur’s Gate 3 has deep character customisation options that even include different types of genitals. And it’s the character creation screen, which includes a button you can click to “hide clothes”, that’s causing a few yelps from players. You might have expected “hide clothes” to show your character wearing underwear only, as it does in most games. But in Baldur’s Gate 3, hiding your clothes hides all your clothes...

A Baldur's Gate 3 bug that prevents players from saving is making the rounds on the internet, causing some to lose a fair amount of progress right off the bat. "I also have this issue," one player wrote on the game's Steam Forums in response to a plea for a solution "This plus a crash meant I had to go through character creation and the first 20 min on the ship all over again. Not an auspicious start." Players experience the issue are finding that their game gets stuck syncing, preventing them from either saving or loading in Baldur's Gate 3. Some players have suggested turning off cross-save functionality, which has worked for some but not others. Other players have effectively scrubbed their installations clean and started from...
Baldur's Gate 3 is finally out of early access and the first mod to drop since its full release allows PC Players to multiclass for the easiest difficulty. NexusMod user TheComposerMods uploaded a mod that unlocks multiclass in the full-release version of Baldur's Gate 3. The mod's description notes that once the mod is properly installed, it will unlock the multiclassing feature "for all difficulties" and will work for both new and mid-playthrough campaigns, though the latter won't activate until your next level up. Multiclassing – a feature in Baldur's Gate 3 that allows players to combine more than one class together to create a more customizable character based on their preferred playstyles – was already available in the game...
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently soaring up the charts on Steam, and there's one big reason why (aside from the fact that it's by all accounts a very good RPG): fans are thirsty for its romances. Larian Studios offered a sneak peek of Baldur's Gate 3 numerous romances earlier this year, including one with a Druid featuring, well, bear sex. These romances have sparked considerable interest in Larian Studios' new RPG, serving to propel it to the top of Steam's best-sellers list. In fact, it's so popular that it's causing Steam to buckle a bit under a bit under the pressure. 'Bear's got nothing on what's still to come' If Baldur's Gate 3 senior writer John Corcoran is to believed, there's more where that came from. Much more. "Spent the...
Baldur's Gate 3 is off to a big start on Twitch and Steam. The highly-anticipated new RPG by Larian Studios excited early access earlier today, whereupon it quickly rocketed to a strong 308,000 concurrents on Steam and has since risen to 340,000. Not too bad for a hardcore RPG that had been broadly overlooked by the mainstream gaming population during its early access period. It's a similar story on Twitch, where it currently sits at around 480,000 viewers thanks to the support of prominent streamers such as CohhCarnage and sodapoppin. A strong start for Baldur's Gate 3 Baldur's Gate 3's launch numbers are partly owed to the interest spurred by the news that it will be possible to romance a bear (or should we say, a Druid in bear...
Baldur's Gate 3's launch is finally here and, as preloading wasn't an option, Steam is having a bit of a wobble as players race to download it. Developer Larian Studios’ founder and CEO Swen Vincke tweeted a screenshot of user-reported Steam problems (below), which spiked on August 3 at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern / 4pm UK when Baldur's Gate 3 launched. "Sorry", Vincke posted alongside the screenshot. Other users are reporting issues too, with Ollie Wood on Twitter showing his empty progress bar that simply said "Busy", indicating they couldn't download it yet. IGN's own download of the game is also taking its time. The highly anticipated role-playing game has been in Early Access on Steam since October 2020 but is now finally...
Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake has sold more copies than any other title in the horror franchise’s 27-year history, after passing 12.6 million cumulative lifetime sales across console and PC. Earlier this week Capcom updated its sales record for the 114 ‘platinum’ titles' the company has created throughout the years that have sold through one million units. The new list, which takes into account games sold up until the June 30 cutoff, revealed that Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake has now sold over 12.6 million units since its Januray 2019 launch. 12.6 million sales is enough to place the remake at the top of the franchise’s best-seller list, dethroning the previous record holder Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which has sold 12.4...
One of the most important decisions you'll make in any Soulslike is what to go with for your starting class. Ultimately, you'll be able to adjust your character to whatever build you want by levelling up your stats, but your starting class affects your playstyle where it often matters most: Right at the beginning of the game. It determines your starting stats, the weapon you'll likely use for the first few hours, the type of armor you'll wear, what kind of magic you'll wield, and what items you'll start the game with. It's the kind of decision you'll want to make an informed choice about, so to that end, we asked Hexworks themselves to breakdown the starting classes of Lords of the Fallen and give some recommendations as to what...
In honor of IGN’s ‘90s Week celebration, this month’s installment in my regular column about forgotten games is going to go just a little broader. Instead of looking at a single game that may have faded from public discourse, I foolishly promised my fellow editors that I’d look at the entire launch lineup of the PlayStation and highlight all the obscure gems we once loved to play. Hey, I was there – at launch – and picked up my PlayStation at our local Toys R Us using one of those printed-out tickets you had to take to the “Keeper of Valuable Goods” behind the glass window. (I think his name was Geoffrey. Maybe.) IGN didn’t yet exist – our first website launched in 1996 – and as a university student with limited means, I picked out a...
After this month's in-game teases of Revenant getting a major change up, the time is finally here! Apex Legends Season 18 Resurrection sees the huge rework of Revenant, completetly changing the way his Legend kit works. Not only are his abilities completetly altered, but there are major weapon changes on the way, and new gameplay updates. The new season Resurrection launches August 8th so here’s everything you need to know to prepare. Revenant Reborn Revenant has been reworked with a new set of abilities. Here’s how Revenant’s kit works now: Assassin’s Instinct (Passive): Revenant wall climbs and crouch walks faster and now highlights low health enemies and hit enemies will be shown for everyone on team. Baldur’s Gate is estimated to clock in at around 100 hours on a first playthrough. Review copies were distributed this past Sunday morning; this first draft you’re reading was due the following Wednesday. I am, sadly, not a Time Wizard (yet), so I'm going to do my best to help you make a day one buying decision based on what I've played so far and update this article as I go along with new thoughts and insights until we can roll credits. At around 22 hours deep – still within the first act that was available to Early Access players – I can say that I more or less love Larian's latest high-fantasy behemoth. One issue video games often run into when trying to adapt the experience of playing Dungeons & Dragons on the tabletop is the...
Activision has announced its Riochet anti-cheat system will now notify Call of Duty players when it has kicked out an individual for cheating. In a tweet, Activision said Call of Duty's kill feed will notify lobbies in both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 when the anti-cheat system has detected and removed a "problem player". This is the latest effort from Activision as it attempts to crack down on cheating PC players in Call of Duty. Earlier this week, it was reported that Call of Duty banned more than 14,000 Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone cheaters in just a single day. Last June, Activision threatened to take away weapons for players caught cheating in Call of Duty. Activision has even gone as far as to say that if you were...
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has leaked once more and Activision is officially in on the joke. As reported by MP1st, the reveal date, weapons, and key art of 2023's Call of Duty have reportedly leaked and Activision has tweeted its own "key art" in response. "Jokes on you, real key art here," the tweet said (below), alongside a Microsoft paint drawing of a Call of Duty cover. "We'll share our artistic abilities and even more next week." The full reveal date is reportedly August 17, though the "next week" suggestion from the official Call of Duty account suggests at least a tease will be coming earlier. One key art image for the game, which appeared on Imgur, shows a spooky skull with a snake going through it while another shows...
QuakeCon is in town, and so too are a whole bunch of discounted goods. That's right, FPS fans, it's time to save like a demon and slay AAAs like there's no tomorrow. Meanwhile, it looks like the VR wars of recent days are continuing in earnest. The standalone PS VR2 unit is being aggressively priced to counter the imminent appearance of the (considerably expensive) Meta Quest 3. Diablo IV Patch 1.1.1's full notes are finally here, and it seems as if fans are actually kind of... happy? Patch notes for the new Diablo IV update dropped earlier today, bringing with it some crucial fixes, including an update to a bugged Barber malignant power that was effectively useless. What's more, the patch includes solid buffs for the much-maligned Sorceress class. "As a Chain Lightning Sorc... I'm f*cking stoked," one Reddit user wrote. "Build was already fun enough pre-patch." Barbarian likewise received attention with a focus on speeding up combat flow by increasing Fury generation on basic skills. The lengthy patch notes touch on everything from Treasure Goblins to Nightmare Dungeons to Malignant Hearts, fixing many...
Striking Distance Studios, the studio behind the 2022 survival horror and Dead Space spiritual successor the Callisto Protocol, has laid off 32 employees in what it's calling a move to "realign the studio’s priorities to better position its current and future projects for success." Spotted first by X user @bogorad222 and independently confirmed by IGN, more than 30 employees were impacted by the recent layoffs. In a statement sent to IGN, a spokesperson for Krafton confirmed the studio had layoffs and that 32 employees were impacted. Striking Distance struggles forward Striking Distance was founded over three years ago and is led by Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space and co-founder of Sledgehammer Games. The studio was...
It appears there is a director's cut of Vampire Survivors featuring ten new characters and 300 chickens. The story broke on X when user Laura Kate "@LaurakBuzz" Dale shared a screenshot of the title screen for Vampire Survivors with the words "Director's Cut" just below it. Dale notes in her Twitter thread that the game is apparently "drastically different" from the base game. According to Dale, she was at an event dedicated to having people test an upcoming co-op mode being added, but she was "pulled aside" to check out the game's Director's Cut. Dale's thread continues to reveal a ton of information, including apparent confirmation that there is a new level featuring 300 chickens, ten new characters, and alleged video proof of the...
For the past month, many of my gaming hours every week have been dedicated not to action-packed fantasy adventures like Final Fantasy XVI, but to picking mushrooms, fishing, and crafting furniture in the upcoming cozy MMO: Palia. Channeling the likes of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s community-building, Palia hopes to kick things up a notch by throwing players together in one big server and letting them loose to farm, hunt, and romance NPCs alongside one another, and from what I’ve played so far that premise has enormous potential. I never knew that I wanted to catch bugs and go fishing with my buddies in an online cozy game, instead of fighting alongside them in a battle royale, but here we are – Palia’s got me hooked. If you aren’t...
Palia, the upcoming free-to-play cozy MMO, is available to a limited number of players starting today via a closed beta, and developer Singularity Six aims to kick the hype train into overdrive with a cinematic trailer that's brimming with personality. The new trailer, which debuted just moments ago on Palia's official YouTube channel, features many of the MMO's principle characters players will interact with as they complete quests, level up their character's skills, and improve social links, including the all-important romance options, of course. “We’ve spent years building towards this moment, pouring ourselves into Palia to create a new kind of community sim game that truly feels like a home away from home,” said Aidan Karabaich...
