Fortnite has launched its Jujutsu Kaisen event, dubbed Break the Curse! The event, which runs August 25 at 2am Eastern / 7am UK, sees players complete quests to unlock cosmetics so they can dress up as a jujutsu sorcerer from the popular manga. The quest tasks players with destroying cursed llamas roaming the island to learn the Straw Doll Technique and Hollow Technique: Purple! From there, you complete the Break the Curse! Quests, which start at the Grade 4 level of Jujutsu High standards and progress up to the Special Grade level, to earn Cursed Energy and unlock cosmetic rewards in the free reward track, including the Shadow Play: Toad Emote. If you buy the premium reward track, you can get the Yuji Itadori Outfit. Meanwhile...
Welcome to another day of both savings and me anxiously looking for a Baldur's Gate III discount that simply doesn't exist. My apologies, friend. I report the bargains; I do not create the bargains. That being said, I honestly believe that some games forged by smaller outfits are so well done — hell, they deserve a full-price purchase. Purely as a "this is how you ought to be doing things" reminder to the bigger publishers. In historical news, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron jumped from PS3/X360 to PS4/XO seven years ago. Reportedly, Hasbro very much wants that hopscotch to continue to PS5/XSX. According to a recent Kotaku article (and subsequent Activision Twitter response), there's some confusion as to why this may not be. This...
Recently while playing Baldur's Gate 3, I've noticed that sometimes after multiple very good or bad rolls in a row, my luck on the dice would suddenly seem to swing the other way. Was this randomness? Probably? But then a friend told me to turn off something called "Karmic Dice" in the game's menu, and everything suddenly made sense. If you're like me, you might want to turn this mysterious feature off entirely for a more authentic D&D experience. You'd be forgiven for not knowing what "Karmic Dice" was if you haven't been immersed in the game's early access. Basically, Karmic Dice is a sort of bad luck protection in Baldur's Gate 3. It's a setting that effectively manipulates dice rolls to prevent characters (both player-controlled...
After being pulled on Steam earlier this year, Ironmace's PvPvE fantasy game Dark and Darker has been released in early access... but not on Steam. Its been released on Steam competitor indie gaming storefront Chaf Games, Ironmace announced on Discord today. It's also available for download on Dark and Darker's official website. In late March, Dark and Darker was pulled from Steam after the developer was served with a cease and desist and a DMCA takedown. Despite legal issues, Ironmace kept distributing Dark and Darker on Discord, with a playtest being held in April. Before the game's removal from Steam, it was reported that Korean officials searched Ironmace's offices on the suspicion that the developer might have possessed stolen...
There’s this mobile game ad I see all the time on social media. It shows a number of vials filled with differently colored liquid. The goal is to combine matching colors until all vials have one single, solid color contained in them. If you’ve never seen this before, one version of it looks like this: I love watching this ad – it’s extremely soothing. But if I look through a mobile storyfront to play the actual game it depicts, almost all the versions of that game are either so full of ads and microtransactions they’re agonizing to play, or they’re outright scams. And it’s not the only game like this. “Color Water Sort” (for lack of a better title) is part of a larger genre of mobile games with similar premises. It has catchy ads...
Fans have long awaited the return of The Legacy of Kain, and one among them is the voice of Final Fantasy 16's Clive Rosfield, Ben Starr. This past Saturday, the actor attended SlayStation: The Crystal Ball in London, England, a recurring monthly performance of video game-inspired drag which themed its most recent show around the Final Fantasy series. The Clive actor took the stage for an interview with hosts Loose Willis and Miss Terry Box. Starr was asked which character from any other game series he’d most like to portray. He answered with a surprising deep-cut: Raziel from Soul Reaver, later confirming to IGN that should the role be available in a remake, remaster, or continuation of the series, that he’d love to be in the...
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 finally has its release date: November 10, 2023. Confirmation comes from a teaser trailer, below, which includes snippets of dialogue from series star Captain Price and Shadow Company boss Phillip Graves, who said: "Never bury your enemies alive." Guess Graves survived the events of Modern Warfare 2 then! “The ultimate threat awaits,” reads the brief description of the teaser, below: There’s not much else to go on, but we do know Modern Warfare 3 sees the return of proper slide cancelling after a not so subtle tease sent to Call of Duty influencers. A number of leaks have already revealed weapons and even key art, the latter of which is now confirmed by today’s teaser. A Modern Warfare 3 event is...
Game delays are common within in the industry. But what is uncommon is holding a digital showcase that celebrates a game delay. Developer Digital has done just that, with a less-than-three-minute showcase of all the games it is publishing that won't hit a 2023 release date but will release in 2024 (as well as a few still set for this year). Here's everything shown at Devolver Delayed. The Plucky Squire The Plucky Squire is a colorfully adorable top-down action adventure game focusing on Jot and his other storybook character friends as they discover the 3D world. The Plucky Squire launches next year on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Stick it to the Stickman Stick it to the Stickman is a chaotic roguelike brawler where you...
Sega dropped the trailer for the Sonic & Friends animated shorts series on TikTok. The company posted the trailer on the TikTok page for its Japanese branch on Monday, August 7. Sonic & Friends gives us a look at Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles in CGI chibi form having all sorts of fun while foiling Dr. Eggman’s plans, whatever they may be. The title Sonic & Friends implies every character in the Sonic the Hedgehog game series may appear alongside Sonic’s small circle of friends, including Shadow, Rouge, Cream, and maybe the Babylon Rogues. However, it’s unknown if any of those characters will be part of the animated shorts. The TikTok trailer for Sonic & Friends comes over a month after Sega filed a trademark in Japan bearing its...
Activision has confirmed slide cancelling returns for Modern Warfare 3 with the release of an obvious tease sent to Call of Duty influencers. Warzone streamer Swagg received a package over the weekend that included a pair of slides, a can, and a call phone. What could it possibly mean? Slide-Can-Cell. Not that further evidence was required, but Swagg also received a text message that sealed the deal: “You’ll be expected to move more quickly in Al Mazrah.” Al Mazrah is the fictional setting of last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Slide cancelling is a long-running movement option in the Call of Duty series that high-skilled players use to avoid enemy fire. It involves cancelling the slide animation, thus resetting your tactical sprint and...
Remnant 2 developer Gunfire Games is "actively" working on crossplay for its popular co-op shooter. Confirmation comes from Gunfire Games president and Remnant 2 director David Adams, who held an AMA recently on the Remnant subreddit. One of the questions asked was whether or not Gunfire Games was looking into adding crossplay into Remnant 2. Adams confirmed the feature was in the works. "Yes, we are looking at it," Adams wrote. "There are issues with the different platforms and what they require in order to allow crossplay, but it is being actively worked on." Adams also provided an update on the invite issue currently plaguing the PS5 version of Remnant 2. Adams admitted the issue "got buried" and that "for the foreseeable...
Baldur’s Gate 3’s huge launch swelled over the weekend, with the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game breaking the 800,000 concurrent players barrier on August 6. The peak concurrent count on Steam was 814,666, which puts Baldur’s Gate 3 in ninth-place in Steam’s all-time concurrent players list. It’s chasing down eighth-placed Hogwarts Legacy, seventh-placed Amazon’s New World, and sixth-placed FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. Clearly, Baldur’s Gate 3 has exceeded all expectations, particularly those of developer Larian. Last week, Larian boss Swen Vincke said he told the developer’s IT team to expect 100,000 concurrent players max. Baldur’s Gate 3 is still the top-selling game on Steam by revenue. The huge PC launch is said to have...
Blizzard said it has banned Diablo 4 players who used a character realm transfer exploit that went viral late July. The bug let players transfer their Eternal Realm characters into the Seasonal Realm. To exploit the glitch, players needed to be in a group with a friend in the Seasonal Realm, briefly disconnect from the internet, then log back into the Seasonal Realm with their Eternal character. Eternal characters who exploited this glitch potentially benefitted from the Seasonal Blessing experience boost, which might have let them level up faster than they would normally be able to. Eternal Realm characters were also able to carry over their gear and inventory items, which created obvious issues for the balance of the Seasonal Realm...
If you’re playing smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3 but have never played a game like it or Dungeons & Dragons before, you may find it difficult and overwhelming. Baldur’s Gate 3 can be a complicated and punishing experience, especially in combat. There’s a lot to think about during each encounter, and the game itself does little to help the player understand its many systems. As an RPG based on the 5th-edition Dungeons & Dragons rule set, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t work like many other popular video game RPGs, so for newcomers there is a degree of unlearning that needs to be done to succeed. While D&D veterans instinctively understand how to compose a balanced party, position their characters advantageously before initiating combat, and how...

On August 8, the worlds of Street Fighter 6 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will collide as TMNT gear, emotes, titles, stamps, and costumes that will turn you into your favorite turtle will be available in Street Fighter 6. The news was announced at EVO 2023 with a short teaser that showed all the turtle goodness headed to the latest entry in Capcom's iconic fighting franchise. While Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo won't be full DLC characters like there were in Injustice 2, there looks to be a lot of fan service built into this collaboration. The teaser for the Street Fighter 6 x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover began by showing a TMNT-themed storefront being added to the Battle Hub. We then see the costumes...
Street Fighter 6 DLC character A.K.I. has received a teaser trailer and a re-confirmed Autumn 2023 release window at EVO 2023. A.K.I., who is a newcomer to the world of Street Fighter, is a "maniacal poison aficionado" who "can't wait to sink her nails into her opponents." The gameplay trailer that arrived at EVO shows exactly what that means as she is seen creepily attacking a player character with poison and then describing with a lot of joy the horrible things that is about to happen to them due to it. A.K.I. will be the second DLC character to be added to Street Fighter 6 after Rashid, and she will be available in World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground. Speaking of Rashid, he will be available on July 24 as part of the Year...

Announced at EVO 2023, Guilty Gear Strive's third season is packed with a ton of new content and it will all kick off with the Johnny DLC on August 24, 2023. At EVO 2023, NetherRealm revealed Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik will be joining the roster of Mortal Kombat 1 and that Sareena will be a new Kameo. The news was announced alongside a brand new Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay trailer that showed the characters in action. It also gave another glimpse at the story players will experience when the latest entry in the legendary fighting franchise is released on September 19, 2023. Reptile, who is also known as Syzoth, made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat as the first secret character in fighting game history, but he wasn't playable until Mortal Kombat II. Ashrah first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deception and is actually a demon in disguise from the Netherrealm who is now searching for...
EVO 2023 had some good news for Tekken 8 fans as it was revealed that Raven will be returning for this latest entry alongside a new fighter named Azucena the Peruvian coffee queen. The fighters were revealed with gameplay trailers showcasing each one, and we'll begin here with Raven. Raven first appeared in Tekken 5 and is a secret intelligence officer for the United Nations. Raven's trailer, which you can see below, features a glimpse of his ninjutsu powers and his skills in battle. What is most striking is the ability to summon copies of himself to attack his foes. Azucena, on the other hand, is a brand new challenger and is the so-called Peruvian coffee queen. Her trailer begins with a lot of adorable alpacas around her and...
With a lineage spanning back to 1994, it’s difficult to talk about RPGs without mentioning Bethesda Studios’ flagship franchise, the Elder Scrolls. Whether your first adventure across Tamriel came while battling the vicious dragon Alduin in 2011’s Skyrim or you’ve been following the franchise ever since saving Emperor Uriel Septim’s life in Arena almost three decades ago, chances are you’ve dabbled in one of these seminal fantasy epics. With so many Elder Scrolls games now available to play, any newcomers looking to get into the series are probably wondering where to start. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ve assembled a chronological timeline of every Elder Scrolls game and major expansion, showing you how to play the series...
Let’s be real: Windows PCs have utterly dominated computer gaming for at least the past two decades, and arguably more. Apple’s Mac, though powerful and attractive, fell far short of the quickest Windows PCs in graphics performance, and MacOS’s lackluster support for cutting-edge 3D visuals didn’t help. The story is shifting, however, as Mac computers with Apple Silicon begin to challenge the grunt of high-end Windows PCs. Apple also pairs these advances with its own graphics API, Metal, which is similar to OpenGL/OpenCL or Vulkan. Mac gaming is better than ever. But is it really enough to challenge Windows PCs in the long run? We compare Mac vs. PC gaming with the following in mind: Performance Game compatibility Peripheral...
In 2013 I had the opportunity to fly to Japan and talk to Final Fantasy 14 Game Director Yoshi-P. There was one question I wanted to know – when would Final Fantasy 14 come to the Xbox? It’s a question that I, and every Final Fantasy 14 fan, wouldn’t know the answer to for another decade. Final Fantasy 14 coming to Xbox marks the end that a long-lingering question. In 2013 Yoshi-P answered saying a Microsoft cross-play policy – that meant Xbox users would require their own server and therefore couldn’t play with the wider community – ended the hopes of Xbox players enjoying the game. "Community is very important for an MMO, and as Xbox Live is a closed network it means those playing on Xbox 360 or Xbox One can't play with others on...
As some of you may know, IGN was founded in 1996 and we began handing out our Game of the Year awards in 2001, leaving years of top games uncrowned. We decided to remedy this as part of ’90s Week, and this week’s Game Scoop decided to go year-by-year through the decade to crown a Game of the Year for each year, starting with 1990. Since IGN wasn’t around at the beginning of the 1990s, we had to be a bit freeform with the science behind our judgment. Some games were awarded based on their historical importance, while others were simply our favorite games to come out that year. Some games, as you’ll see later on, qualified because of both. And while Game Scoop won’t pretend to speak for the entire IGN team, here are our picks for GOTY...
Plankton from SpongeBob Squarepants has been revealed as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2's newest fighter. Plankton joins the likes of Squidward Tentacles and Jimmy Neutron as new fighters alongside a slew of characters returning from the 2021 original, including SpongeBob Squarepants, April O'Neil from the Ninja Turtles, and Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Plankton's reveal trailer features Mr. Krabs' rival piloting a mech suit before putting a beating on his opponents using ketchup-based attacks, his wife Karen (who also happens to be a computer), and lasers. You can still see — and hear — the aquatic microorganism as he barks threats and steers his mech using its antennae. Plankton's inclusion in the game lends further cadence...
For the last week or so, a mysterious figure has been "hacking" into Overwatch 2 games and streams. Fans quickly realized that the "hacks" were a promotion for Overwatch 2: Invasion — the shooter's new event featuring the rollout of the first wave of player-versus-environment [PvE] missions. Based on clues within the "hacking attacks," fans also deduced that popular wrestler and actor John Cena would have some role to play in the upcoming content. It turns out that Cena is indeed the mysterious "Enigma," but it seems as if he might have less of a role to play than one might expect given his prominent placement. In a new video released alongside a trailer for the new PvE storyline, Cena was unmasked as The Enigma while calling for new...
Nearly three years since Hades was released, crowned IGN’s own Game of the Year in 2020, and after thousands of hours played by individual members of its hardcore community, no one had beaten the toughest challenge the game had to offer: a "Max Heat Run." Many Hades players are unlikely to ever interact with its Pact of Punishment system at all, which only becomes available after the player’s first successful run. It allows players to self-impose additional difficulty to an already challenging roguelite by selecting things like giving all enemies more health and removing reward choices found at the end of most encounters. And by electing to turn up the system's "Heat Gauge" in specific ways, additional rewards can be unlocked...
Larian Studios has released its first post-launch hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3, which addresses several issues, including one that is supposed to fix the problems some players have encountered while saving their game. It removes the pesky version number that takes up a large amount of screen real estate, but not entirely. As detailed in a new Steam post, Baldur's Gate Hotfix #1 turns off the cross-save feature in Baldur's Gate 3. Larian Studios' explains that it decided to temporarily turn off cross-saves for now as it tries to solve Baldur's Gate 3's saving issues. Given PC is the only platform to play at the moment, disabling cross-saves is not entirely concerning in the short-term. It's important to note that Steam cross-saves remain...
Earlier this week, as part of '90s week at IGN, we asked for your help in choosing the greatest video game from that wonderful decade, whether it be Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario 64, Sonic the Hedgehog, or something completely different. Now, after nearly 2 million votes and countless heart-wrenching 1v1 battles with such behemoths as Goldeneye 007 vs. Metal Gear Solid and Super Metroid vs. Resident Evil 2, the ultimate '90s video game has been chosen. So, which game from the '90s claimed the top spot and rose above the other 162 games that competed in this face-off? Drumroll please... While it may not be a surprising outcome, it's a welcome one nonetheless as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been crowned our winner. Tears...
Riot Games revealed Yasuo as Project L's fourth playable fighter ahead of the upcoming fighting game's playable demo at EVO 2023. Late last month, Riot broke the news that Project L would be receiving a demo at EVO this year with four playable characters. The Los Angeles-based studio behind League of Legends and Valorant also announced that its next eSports venture would feature tag-team mechanics, allowing for up to four people to play in a single match in the same video. At the time, only three playable characters — also all originally from League of Legends — were announced: Ahri, Darius, and Ekko. Riot promised fans that this fourth character would be revealed in time for the demo, but provided no further information on the topic...
