Ubisoft Promises New Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon Games All by March 2029
Ubisoft has promised to release new Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon games all by the end of March 2029. Reporting its financial results, Ubisoft said it will deliver a significantly stronger and diversified content pipeline over the 2027-28 and 2028-29 financial years, supported by releases across Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon. The witchcraft-inspired Assassin's Creed Hexe will be among them — it’s expected to launch at some point in 2027. A new Far Cry game is long overdue, after Far Cry 6 came out in 2021. And Ghost Recon hasn’t seen a mainline release since 2019’s Breakpoint. Ubisoft considers Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon to be its biggest franchises, and while there’s discussion of the...

'People Enjoy Surprises' — Valve Is Trying to Dismiss New York's Counter-Strike Loot Box Lawsuit
Valve has moved to dismiss the New York Attorney General’s lawsuit against the company, which claims loot boxes in its games such as Counter-Strike 2 promote illegal gambling and threaten to addict children. Attorney General Letitia James has accused Valve of making "billions of dollars by letting children and adults illegally gamble for the chance to win valuable virtual prizes," calling loot boxes "addictive and harmful." As reported by Courthouse News, the company behind Steam said it would be a slippery slot to deem loot boxes illegal gambling, because doing so would mean the likes of baseball cards, Happy Meal toys, and even Labubu blind boxes would be considered gambling, too. Valve said: “Each of those transactions — and many...

Detroit: Become Human Dev Quantic Dream Kills Live Service Game 3 Months After Early Access Launch, Insists Star Wars Eclipse ‘Continues as Planned’
Quantic Dream has canceled its live service game, Spellcasters Chronicles, just three months after its early access launch. The French game company released MOBA Spellcasters Chronicles as its first ever free-to-play game in February, but it struggled for players and was met with a “mixed” user review rating on Steam. According to SteamDB, peaked with 888 concurrent players at launch, but had a 24-hour peak of just 54. Rather than see the early access period through to 1.0, Quantic Dream has decided to kill Spellcasters Chronicles now, signalling layoffs. Quantic Dream is best known for its successful single-player story-driven games, such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human. Spellcasters Chronicles was a...
How Arkham Asylum Changed Everything for Batman (and Superhero) Games Forever
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight marks a 40 year milestone for DC’s Caped Crusader. Across four decades, Bruce Wayne has been the hero of countless video games. And, as we’ve explored across two chapters already, Batman’s video game history is as varied as his rogues gallery. But now, we study the moment that changed everything. The era when Rocksteady created the superhero experience that redefined an entire genre. The Batman game that re-wrote The Dark Knight’s rulebook. The story of Batman’s greatest video game starts a little earlier than the launch of Arkham Asylum, though. Rewind the clock a few years, and we find ourselves in a time when Batman as an IP was still licking its wounds after a movie duology where the Batsuit...
Subnautica 2 Outlines Changes Coming to the Game in Response to No Killing Fish Debate
Subnautica 2 developer has issued an open letter to the game’s community, apologizing for some of the comments staff made recently on the killing fish debate, but ruling out ever adding actual weapons to the game. Ahead of Subnautica 2’s early access launch, Unknown World spoke about not wanting players to conquer or dominate the underwater environment, insisting it wouldn’t feature tools that would let them slay anything that gets in their way. "We aren't a killing game," level designer Artyom "Artie" O'Rielly said in the Subnautica Discord. "Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill." That comment, among others, rubbed some Subnautica 2 players up the wrong way, and came to dominate the no killing fish discourse...
Romestead Lets You Play the Supernatural Fall and Rise of Rome | IGN Preview
The fall of Ancient Rome has long been a fascinating period of human history to examine. But consider, for a moment, that instead of political infighting, the looming threat of invaders, and the slow decline of the population, what if a supernatural event befell the empire, resulting in zombies and other monsters roaming its ruins? That's where Romestead really lays the foundations of its concept of an open-world survival-crafting RPG – all set in a post-apocalyptic take on Ancient Rome. We recently got an early look at the upcoming early access release of the 2D action-RPG, which feels equal parts cozy community builder, but with a bit of a Souls-style, dark-fantasy twist. Developer Beartwigs' charming, yet still tense survival game...
Hellraiser: Revival Continues to Look Absolutely Disgusting in New Gameplay Trailer
We’ve been given a brand-new look at the ultraviolent survival horror game, Hellraiser: Revival, and, yes, it still looks disgusting. The new gameplay trailer shows off how one of its main mechanics works throughout its adventure: the Genesis Configuration. Based on the Lament Configuration puzzle box made famous in the original 1987 movie, it's a supernatural device that provides a connection to the Cenobite dimension. Basically, it’s an evil Rubik's Cube. Developer Saber Interactive’s Genesis Configuration is placed in the hands of the player, as protagonist Aidan wields its power on his mission to save his girlfriend, Sunny. In this new trailer, we can see it being used to pick up items, such as rusty metal spikes, and fire them...
Subnautica 2 Early Access Hotfix 1 Released, 'Adjustments' to Controversial Terms of Service Promised
Subnautica 2 has its first early access hotfix, which makes a small number of changes to the game. But the big news is the promise of changes to its controversial Terms of Service amid a backlash to the End User License Agreement (EULA). Fans have universally criticised Subnautica 2’s EULA, with many calling it a significant overreach. Players picked up on weird stipulations, such as publisher and owner of Unknown Worlds, Krafton, claiming ownership of all mods, and disclaimers for any gameplay footage or livestreams. But it gets even weirder. The EULA stipulates players are not allowed to "harm the reputation" of Krafton or Subnautica 2 itself, not allowed to use a VPN, not allowed to spam content from the game (“post or share the...
BioShock Will Never Escape Ken Levine, and Levine Will Never Escape BioShock
A replica Big Daddy towers over Ken Levine’s living room - an artefact of the universe he walked away from. “I didn’t have a lot else to say in that world,” he tells IGN in a new interview. “A franchise is an interesting thing, because it can come to own you if you’re not careful. It can define you.” Perhaps the Big Daddy, sitting in pride of place as an ornament, is a useful reminder of who owns who. And yet it’s impossible to look at Judas, the upcoming first-person shooter that Levine has been working on for the past 12 years, without seeing BioShock. Rapture’s Little Sisters are echoed in the doll-like guise of Hope, a lavishly animated character who mixes the childlike with the uncanny to disturbing effect. Plasmids are replaced...
Two-and-a-Half New Cars Added to Wreckfest 2 in Latest Early Access Update
Wreckfest 2’s seventh update since arriving in Steam Early Access back in March 2025 is a significant one, and adds a new track location, major upgrades to both vehicles physics and destruction systems, a new race mode, and introduces an in-depth tuning system. On top of all this, it also adds two-and-a-half new vehicles. Those vehicles are known in-game as the Stahlwagen (inspired by a turn-of-the-century Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon), the Valken (inspired by the ’90s iteration of the classic Saab 900), and the ‘Half a Crusader’ (which is a novelty version of Wreckfest 2’s Chevrolet Cavalier-adjacent Crusader which has been chopped in half and is dragged around by its front wheels). The new US-based track location actually adds three...
Open-World Lord of Rings RPG and New Kingdom Come Game Confirmed in Development at Warhorse Studios
Warhorse Studios has revealed what it’s working on: a Lord of the Rings role-playing game and a new Kingdom Come game. In a post on social media, the Embracer-owned developer confirmed rumors that it was making a Lord of the Rings RPG, although it described the game as an “open world Middle-earth RPG.” The suggestion, then, is this game may not be set within the Lord of the Rings era of Tolkien’s fantasy setting. But it seems likely to follow the template established by the studio’s hugely popular Kingdom Come: Deliverance games. Indeed, it's easy to see why Warhorse is a great fit for a new Lord of the Rings game; Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven open world RPG set in medieval Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic). And while...
Embracer 'Actively Exploring' External Partnerships for the Likes of Saints Row, Deus Ex, TimeSplitters, and More
Embracer Group is spinning off Fellowship Entertainment, a new business unit designed to expand The Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider, as well as breathe new life into some of the company’s dormant video game franchises. In a letter to investors, Lars Wingefors, founder and chair of Embracer, said the new Fellowship Entertainment will “more actively be exploring” external partnerships around its well-known IP, such as Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, The Mask, Thief, TimeSplitters. The suggestion is we may see new games in these franchises, developed by studios that are not under the Embracer umbrella. Wingefors did not outright confirm any new games or announce a timeframe for more news, but there is now hope for...
Hasbro Cancels Dungeons & Dragons Game from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Director
Hasbro has pulled the plug on a new Dungeons & Dragons game from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen. Bloomberg reported the cancellation today after receiving confirmation from both Hasbro and developer Giant Skull. “While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship,” a spokesperson told Bloomberg. Despite this, Giant Skull remains operational with Asmussen saying that "things are good at Giant Skull." Asmussen noted that he enjoyed his time with Hasbro subsidiary, Wizards of the Coast, and is looking at opportunities to work with them again or with other publishers. Giant Skull's Dungeons & Dragons...
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Shows Off No-HUD Option
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the upcoming remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, will give players the option to completely disable the HUD at will. Ubisoft has revealed in a new gameplay clip that players will be able to turn off the HUD at the press of a button without opening any menus. It's extremely seamless and allows players the chance to fully immerse themselves in the world. The option is being welcomed as a great addition, as Ubisoft can sometimes clutter the screen with a lot of icons like health bars, weapon/throwables, the map, and more. This gives players the chance to remove all of that and simply embrace the grand, beautiful open world that Ubisoft is creating. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag...
Broken Sword Movie in the Works, Creator Charles Cecil Will Produce
Broken Sword is coming to the big screen, courtesy of Story Kitchen. Variety reported that an adaptation of the beloved adventure game series is actively in the works, with writer Evan Spiliotopoulos penning the script. Spiliotopoulos is best known for writing the live-action Beauty and the Beast film and the GI Joe spin-off, Snake Eyes. As of right now, there's no director attached to the project, but franchise creator Charles Cecil is onboard to produce the film. Details are scarce on what elements and specific games are being adapted for the film, but it is an exciting prospect nonetheless. Broken Sword is a staple in the adventure game genre, following an American lawyer and a French journalist uncovering mysteries and...
Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Addresses Backlash for Sharing AI Final Fantasy 6 Remake Video
Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has addressed the backlash against his positive reaction to an unofficial, AI-generated video for a Final Fantasy 6 remake. On May 18, Sakaguchi retweeted the AI-generated video on his official X account, below, reacting with: “What is this?! It’s amazing!” The mock trailer shows the main cast (plus villain Kefka) in current-gen graphics and covers iconic moments from FF6 such as the opera scene, Terra’s Esper transformation, and even Sabin suplexing a train, plus gameplay-like scenes of Terra walking through various towns and overworlds in a style similar to recent RPGs like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy. Although the AI video stirred up nostalgia and hopes of a modern...

Warhammer Skulls is the ultimate showcase of Warhammer video games, and it’s back this week for its 10th anniversary. There are a bunch of Warhammer games from several different developers that are either on the horizon or are getting post-launch support, so there’s a lot to get updates on. As has become tradition, the show will be full of world premieres, exclusive reveals, and update announcements, and you can watch it all live. Showcase Date, Time, and Where to Watch Warhammer Skulls will start on Thursday, May 21 at 5 p.m. BST, which means 12 p.m. Eastern / 11 a.m. Central / 9 a.m. Pacific, and you can see the times for other cities around the world in the graphic at the bottom of this page. The show will run for about 50...
Subnautica 2 Players Are Discovering Ways to Defend Themselves From Predatory Fish
Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds is still talking internally about what to do in response to the game’s big killing fish debate, but players have taken the matter into their own hands, diving deeper to uncover ways of actually defending themselves. To briefly recap, killing fish isn’t properly supported in Subnautica 2, which launched to huge success in early access form last week. You can deter fish by using a flare, but there are no tools designed specifically for causing fish damage, which means that you’re faced with having to put up with them nibbling at your heels as you go about your underwater business. But, it turns out that there are ways to defend yourself in Subnautica 2, but you’ll have to put in a bit of work to...
Every Major Way Subnautica 2 Improves on the Original
With its blend of deep-sea exploration, crafting, and survival sandbox gameplay, Subnautica quickly became a favourite among players when it launched in 2018. Now, Subnautica 2 from Unknown Worlds Entertainment builds on everything that made the original so memorable, adding a wave of fresh ideas to pull returning players back underwater. As Subnautica 2 begins its Early Access journey, here is how it is already improving on the original experience. Unreal Engine 5 Brings More Than Just Better Visuals One of the biggest changes in Subnautica 2 is the move from Unity to Unreal Engine 5. While that shift obviously means a massive visual upgrade, the benefits go well beyond surface-level improvements. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5’s...
How Batman Games Endured The Dark Knight’s Toughest Era
For the better part of a century, the Caped Crusader has maintained a level of aura rarely seen in characters kissing the public domain. He’s been a purple-gloved pulp avenger and a swashbuckling ‘70s love god, a camp icon and a goth baddie. Frank Miller’s iconoclastic boomer, Grant Morrison’s avatar of determination, and Scott Snyder’s Absolute unit are all wildly different iterations of a timeless concept existing under the same cowl. The games have only been a little more consistent. We’ve previously explored the rocky origins of Batman in the world of video games, and today we look at arguably the Dark Knight’s most challenging chapter: navigating the extreme highs and lows of an era dominated by The Animated Series and Joel...
Thick as Thieves Review
We made it to the Magic Door with less than 10 seconds left. A couple of last-second run-ins with the guards that populate the Constable Guildhall took time we didn’t have, but we managed to escape – our contract completed, our mission objective fulfilled, and our pockets loaded down with the ill-gotten gains we’d liberated from the cops. Not a bad day’s work. Moments like this are when Thick as Thieves sings: sneaking out of a tough situation, figuring out a new way to get where you need to be, a last second escape with zeroes on the clock. Combine co-op play, a couple of thieves with unique toolkits, excellent level design that constantly forces you to make interesting decisions, and a surprisingly compelling story, and Thick as...
Jurassic World Evolution 3 and The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition Headline Xbox Game Pass May 2026 Wave 2 Lineup
Microsoft has confirmed the lineup of games coming to Xbox Game Pass during the second half of May as well as the early part of June. It’s a quieter second half of the month after big hitters including Forza Horizon 6 hit Game Pass already, but there are still some eye-catching additions and a few day one releases. As revealed in a post on Xbox Wire, Frontier’s Jurassic World Evolution 3 is set for Game Pass following its October 2025 launch, and Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition joins the subscription service. Day one titles include Kwalee Labs' bullet hell action adventure game Luna Abyss, Cococucumber's sci-fi deckbuilding RPG sequel Echo Generation 2, Aggro Crab's physics-based party game Crashout Crew, and...
Steam Adds, Edits, and Removes Dozens of Store Tags
Steam has changed the official tags you'll find attached to games on Valve's digital storefront. Removing 28, adding 17, and merging and updating "a handful of other" tags, Valve said the changes come "with the goal of helping players identify the games that best fit their interests, and helping Steam generate more appropriate recommendations." "Tags help developers better describe their game to players, but also help Steam understand what kind of game it is and show it accordingly to players via recommendations," the company wrote on a blog post. "Tags are also the foundation upon which each of the store hubs are built, allowing players to find all of the games tagged with their favorite genre, theme, style, or other relevant...
Fortnite Is Back on the App Store Across the World
Fortnite is back on the App Store, with Epic boss Tim Sweeney declaring "the beginning of the end of the Apple Tax worldwide." Sweeney’s ongoing battle to get Fortnite back on iPhones and Android phones without paying store fees is well-documented. Epic doesn’t want to pay the now standard 30% store fee on revenue made from mobile games, instead preferring to direct players to its own mobile store, the Epic Games Store, without Apple and Google getting in the way. Sweeney has been fighting this battle since 2020, spending a great deal of cash in the process, even as Fortnite was blocked on iOS. It felt as though Epic had won this time last year following a significant court ruling, but Apple ultimately blocked Fortnite's return. Now...
Doom Soundtrack Inducted Into the National Recording Registry
The soundtrack of the original 1993 Doom has been inducted into the National Recording Registry. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, "with millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps and manuscripts in its collections." Founded over two hundred years ago, it sits as the main research arm of the U.S. Congress and the home of the U.S. Copyright Office. The latest inductees, of which there are 25, have been dubbed as "audio treasures worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage." Bobby Prince's "adrenaline-fueled" score is the third piece of video game history to be immortalized this...
Microsoft Launches Xbox Player Voice to Gather Feedback, Fans Immediately Demand a Return to Exclusives
Microsoft is continuing its drive to revamp brand Xbox with the launch of a feedback platform that gives fans the chance to vote on community requests. Predictably, the request with the most votes is a return to exclusives. Microsoft’s multiplatform push may have increased sales (Forza Horizon 5, for example, has found significant success on PlayStation 5), but it has come at the expense of alienating hardcore Xbox fans, some of whom want Microsoft to return to Xbox exclusivity. Earlier this month, it was reported that new Xbox boss Asha Sharma was “treading carefully” as she worked out what to do with exclusive games. Sharma, who replaced Phil Spencer as boss of Xbox earlier this year, has spent her first few months in the job making...
First F1 25: 2026 Season DLC Details Coming This Week
EA has confirmed the first details for F1 25’s 2026 Season Pack update will be made available this Wednesday, May 20. The reveal trailer for the upcoming DLC will be released at 4pm UK time, May 20 (11am EDT/8am PDT, and 1am AEST on May 21). For the time being, EA has revealed the “cover” athletes for the update: seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, former F3 and F2 champion Gabriel Bortoleto, and veteran driver Valtteri Bottas, winner of 10 F1 Grands Prix and current owner of the greatest F1 moustache this side of Nigel Mansell. The presence of Bortoleto and Bottas would be no accident, since they represent the two new teams on the 2026 grid: Audi and Cadillac. EA confirmed in late 2025 that there would be no standalone F1 game...
