Have you ever had your head checked by a jumbo jet? Not easy, is it? But then, nothing is. Least of all getting Blur’s "Song 2" out of your head at any point in the rest of your life after playing FIFA: Road To World Cup 98, the best official tournament tie-in title there’s ever been. Play it now and you will spot some clues that 28 years have passed since EA Canada wrote its magical code. There is not one single pack for you to open, for example. It does not feature accurate World Cup 2026 squads, kits, or stadiums. It does not even know about the year 2026. 2026 is science fiction to FIFA: Road To World Cup 98. It knows only a moment, crystallised in time onto a game disc, in which Britpop and big beats provide the soundtrack for an...
The executive director of Stranger Than Heaven has addressed concerns around the casting of Tupac Shakur. One of the most bizarre reveals from Summer Game Fest last week was that Tupac would have a supporting role in Stranger Than Heaven, despite the fact he has been dead for 30 years. To be clear: Tupac isn't playing himself in the game. Instead, the character that uses Tupac's likeness will be voiced by an actor without the assistance of AI. So really, the character is just a guy who looks like Tupac, making the situation all the more baffling. The decision to feature a dead music star so prominently in the game has raised a lot of eyebrows, especially after it came to light that Tupac's estate is managed by music executive Tom...
Melbourne, Australia-based development duo Powerhoof’s award-winning point-and-click adventure game The Drifter is coming to both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It will arrive on June 22, 2026. The Switch 2 version will support up to 4K 120fps, which Powerhoof explains will result in “extra crisp pixel art” and “ultra-smooth parallax scrolling.” Switch 2 players will also be able to switch between typical twin-stick controls, or a more traditional point-and-click experience using the Joy-Con 2’s mouse functionality. Made by Dave Lloyd and Barney Cumming, the developers of the 2014 dungeon crawler beat ’em up Crawl, The Drifter is a fast-paced, 2D adventure inspired by the works of Stephen King, Michael Crichton and John Carpenter –...
Dead by Daylight is “the most played horror game in history,” developer Behavior Interactive has said ahead of its 10th birthday. While Behavior hasn’t revealed an updated sales number for the asymmetrical 4v1 multiplayer, live service horror game, it did say it had more than 70 million players over the course of the decade, and currently averages over 1 million players a day across all platforms. Dead by Daylight is particularly strong on Steam, where it’s remained among the top 15 best-sellers for nine years. Other contenders for the most-played horror game crown include titles in Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise, Konami’s Silent Hill series, the Five Knights at Freddy’s games, Phasmophobia, and Outlast. But it’s worth noting that...
Stranger Than Heaven is both a major departure from and cut from the same cloth as the Yakuza and Like A Dragon games before it. Sega's RGG Studio uses many of the touchstones of its previous games to tell a more serious story about a hapa man in early 20th century Japan over the course of decades and how his life evolves with the changing times and the budding criminal underworld. It is tied to RGG's previous games, but it's meant to stand on its own. However, it's turned some heads with casting big names to lend their voice and likeness to its key characters. And the one that left everyone bewildered, was using the likeness of rapper Tupac Shakur, who has been dead for 30 years. I walked into a dimly lit room with executive director...
There's a unique sense of intrigue that surrounds every new Fumito Ueda project. Familiar, yet exciting. A promise of a connection between character and player that few others can forge. But the Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian creator is moving away from his fantasy worlds with Gen Atlas, shifting to a land of sci-fi where giant robots lie strewn across its shores, waiting to be awoken. That quiet image of towering metal creatures served as the spark for this new project. “I knew I wanted to feature giant robots in the game,” Ueda told me in an interview at last week’s Summer Game Fest. “But the slightly longer answer is that there was an image in my head that really stuck, and I couldn't let go of that visual that I...
You know what Tomb Raider is. Chances are you’ve played on one of Lara Croft’s many adventures, or at least one of the cinematic action-adventures that her original 1996 expedition inspired, whether that be the Uncharted, Horizon, or Star Wars Jedi series. But now it’s time to go all the way back, as Legacy of Atlantis takes us full circle in a reimagining of the story that kick-started a genre. I recently had the opportunity to play through its short water puzzle, cartwheel, and dinosaur shootout-filled demo, which certainly felt familiar, albeit with a gorgeous new lick of paint and more modern tweaks sprinkled in. I had fun, and was left intrigued to see how deep this merging of an old story told using a new box of tricks will go...
Revealed exclusively at IGN Live, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is the surprise upcoming game from Bloober Team, the developer of the critically and commercially acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake, and Cronos: The New Dawn. It stars Michelle Forbes, who reprises her role as Trek fan-favorite character Ro Laren and finds herself stranded on an alien planet. The newly formed Paramount Games Studio, which includes all Paramount and Skydance gaming studios, has invested heavily in the game, and, as Shawn Kittelsen, senior vice president, head of creative and production at Paramount Games Studio told IGN ahead of the reveal, it certainly has high hopes for it. “The goal is for Bloober to make the best Star Trek game of all time, if we can bring...
The developer of 1666: Amsterdam has apologized for its use of AI assets in the game's playable prologue, which is available now on PC. In a statement posted to X/Twitter, the studio acknowledged "concerns" had been raised by those who had played the 30-minute experience and spotted in-game art that appeared AI-generated. Panache Digital Games, which previously made ape survival game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, announced 1666: Amsterdam last week during the Summer Games Fest livestream. It's a concept that Panache founder Patrice Désilets devised years ago following his acrimonious exit from Ubisoft, where he co-created Assassin's Creed. The statement admits that Panache's team of artists used AI to generate "early versions of...
Crimson Desert has now sold over 6 million copies worldwide, Pearl Abyss has announced. The impressive milestone was achieved less than three months after the game went on sale — just 83 days, to be exact. Crimson Desert sold 2 million copies on launch day, and passed 5 million within its first month. “Your adventures and tales continue to make the journey of Crimson Desert even more special,” the South Korean developer said. “Once again, thank you to every Greymane who has stepped into Pywel and experienced the world of Crimson Desert in their own way.” Pearl Abyss CEO Jin-young Heo added: "We are sincerely grateful to players around the world for helping Crimson Desert achieve meaningful success in the global market despite being a...

Ubisoft will shut a further two studios as a result of continued cost cutting measures, IGN understands. Development offices located in the Canadian city of Winnipeg and the Serbian capital of Belgrade are the latest to be marked for closure. Further job losses are expected due to organizational changes within the company's global publishing division, and in Ubisoft's studio based in Barcelona, Spain. The latter will now focus solely on the Rainbow Six franchise, having previously supported other projects such as the Rabbids series and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. In total, the latest cuts are expected to impact up to 380 positions, further downsizing Ubisoft's global headcount after repeated job losses over recent years, as profits have...
PlayStation Plus subscribers have several blockbuster games to look forward to this month, as Sony has revealed its Game Catalog additions for June 2026. Beginning this month, subscribers in the U.S., UK, and Japan will see games added to the subscription on a staggered basis, rather than being all available at the same time. This is the same approach as on Xbox Game Pass, and is being trialled in these countries first. Outside of those three countries, all games will be available on June 16. Headlining the lineup for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium this month is Square Enix's blockbuster role-playing game Final Fantasy 16, so you can while away the hours again until the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Revelation finally arrives...
The announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 is exactly eight years old. The Skyrim follow-up was revealed on Sunday, June 10, 2018, during Bethesda’s E3 conference in Los Angeles, with a teaser trailer that offered fans next to nothing. And in the eight years since, fans still know next to nothing. It was yet another no-show for The Elder Scrolls 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase last week, and as we’ve reported, fans are starting to worry about how old they’re getting waiting for the sequel to the all-conquering Skyrim. When will The Elder Scrolls 6 be revealed properly? Later this year? Next year? 2028? It’s hard to say at this point. In an interview with Variety, Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty didn’t give away much at all about The...
Capcom has discussed the eye-catching inclusion of Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 came to be a guest DLC character in Street Fighter 6, and explained why she’s a perfect fit for the game. The announcement of Tifa as one of Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 DLC characters, alongside Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch, was one of the standout moments of Summer Game Fest 2026. Tekken fans had hoped for Tifa to make her way to Bandai Namco’s game, but instead she’s gone with Street Fighter 6. So, how did it happen? IGN’s Simon Cardy spoke with Street Fighter director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto to find out. It turns out the pair have a mutual friend who works at Square Enix, who they began talking to about a collaboration of some kind...
It took me a while to figure out exactly what makes Halo: Campaign Evolved feel… off. It sounds right – the Covenant enemies yell familiar phrases alongside the Halo's iconic gunfire. It plays great. The two levels I played during my demo are fun and appropriately challenging on higher difficulties. But the look? After getting through The Silent Cartographer, I decided that as it stands, the Halo: Campaign Evolved visual style isn't my favorite. Outdoor environments are gorgous, but it took me some hands-on time to figure out what made the rest of the game look a tad odd. It won't stop me from playing this remake – especially since we're getting three new prequel chapters – but I can't help but hope developer Halo Studios continues...
One of the biggest announcements at Summer Game Fest 2026 was the reveal of Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Capcom's 2000 game, Resident Evil: Code Veronica. One of the questions emerging from the announcement is how Capcom plans to deal with certain story themes that we’d expect to be handled more delicately in 2027, nearly three decades after the original came out. Warning! Spoilers for Resident Evil: Code Veronica follow. The original title’s villain is a man called Alfred Ashford, the commander of Rockfort Island, where Claire finds herself imprisoned for a large section of the game. But Alfred hides a secret, and as a result switches between two personalities: that of his own and his sister, Alexia. This mental instability...

Out of everything under Microsoft's now-massive, multi-publisher umbrella, there is no game I'm more excited for than Fable. I adored the original trilogy (especially Fable 2), and, um, we'll just pretend that the Kinect version, Fable: The Journey, never happened. But anyway, Fable is not only unlike anything else in Xbox's thick portfolio, it's being crafted by arguably the best studio they own: Playground Games, who have done nothing but make one 10 out of 10 after another. Playground also possesses one key trait when it comes to building a Fable game: it's British. This year's Xbox Developer Direct offered the best evidence yet that Playground has all of the ingredients in place to craft a worthy Fable revival, and after the Xbox...
When Gears of War: E-Day was revealed in 2024, I couldn't hide my disappointment. I love Marcus and Dom, but Kait's story and seeing a resolution to the immense cliffhanger at the end of Gears 5 are important to me too. But the Gears of War: E-Day Direct after the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase had one moment that utterly sold me on our detour to Marcus' past: Dom's smile and "Love you, baby" as he hung up the phone in the bar. Fellow Gears fans, we know who he's talking too and how much it means to see Dom in a moment of genuine happiness — one we know won't last long and that's already overshadowed by the loss of Dom's older brother. Gears of War: E-Day is an exciting chance for us to see Marcus and Dom at relative peace in a Sera we've...
The teaser for Resident Evil Veronica at Summer Game Fest may well have been presented in first-person, but the game itself will be played in third-person, Capcom has confirmed. Speaking at a Q&A session after the reveal attended by IGN, the remake’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, confirmed that “this game will be a third-person game.” Seeing as the teaser told a story from a different perspective, and this year’s Resident Evil Requiem switches between the two styles, players might have thought that Veronica would follow a familiar path, with perhaps Claire and Chris’ sections doing something similar. It makes sense, though. The original Code Veronica is an action-heavy Resident Evil entry that introduced the likes of dual-wielding...
If you read any account of the original Alien: Isolation’s development process, at some point there’s always mention of how Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece was playing on a constant loop in Creative Assembly’s offices. When I stepped into those same offices a couple of weeks ago to go hands-on with the long-anticipated sequel, the first thing to greet me was a massive TV mid-way through a screening of Alien. The fact that this very same ritual has been resurrected a decade later is perhaps one small indicator as to why Alien: Isolation 2 feels so in step with its predecessor. “We feel like there's such a rich vein within that original 1979 absolute masterpiece,” says Al Hope, the director of the original game who has returned to helm...
12 years is a long wait to play the sequel to one of your favourite games of all time. During that decade-plus stretch, I’ve re-played the original Alien: Isolation multiple times, analysed its incredible level design, and even addressed that review score in my own glowing appraisal of gaming’s unique, unrivalled nightmare. So you can imagine that, as I picked up the controller in a dark room at developer Creative Assembly’s headquarters, my mind was awash with excitement spiked with anxiety. Would my first taste of the long-awaited, once thought impossible Alien: Isolation 2 be everything I’d hoped for? Much like a truncated version of Alien: Romulus, the half-hour demo of Isolation’s sequel is gorgeous, faithful, frightening, and...
Earlier in 2026, Sony shut down Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the fantastic Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes. In an interview with IGN, Fumito Ueda, the original creator of Shadow of the Colossus, expressed his sadness at Bluepoint's demise, saying he'd hoped to work with the developer at least once more. Ueda had collaborated with Bluepoint a number of times, including on 2011's The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the aforementioned 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake. “So obviously, we had no heads-up,” Ueda said of Bluepoint's closure. “We're not directly in relation with any project, so I heard about it at the same time you guys probably did in the news, and it was disappointing and sad to hear. I...
Look, dinosaurs are objectively cool. I don’t make the rules. When four-year-old me got a dinosaur cast, everyone was jealous. Why couldn’t they have a cool dinosaur-patterned arm, like me, the brave little girl who courageously tripped over playground equipment so ferociously my arm snapped in two places? Case in point: Turok has dinosaurs, so Turok must also objectively be cool, right? At least I thought so when I played Turok: Evolution back in 2002, and it’s also the impression I got when I had the opportunity to play Saber Interactive’s Turok: Origins at Summer Game Fest’s Play Days on the Nintendo Switch 2. This idea–dinosaurs are rad–is one of the main reasons why Saber Interactive decided to pick up the Turok IP. “I mean...
Microsoft's upcoming Fable reboot will once again allow you to hook up with villagers — just don't expect romance cutscenes similar to Baldur's Gate 3. Past Fable games let you woo and bed pretty much anyone from the world of Albion, provide them with gifts, and even offer marriage if you so chose. Actual sex was kept offscreen, however, as the game faded to black rather than show anything naughty — something it seems the reboot will also follow. A new ESRB age rating for Fable describes how players can "flirt and engage in sexual relations with villagers — though sexual acts are not depicted." Still, fans of some saucy British dialogue will likely be delighted in some of the compliments players can get for their ploughing prowess...
Ubisoft has confirmed it will release a final Assassin's Creed Shadows update next week on June 16, bringing to a close its additional content for the game. While it's possible that future tweaks and bug fixes may follow, Ubisoft has labelled Title Update 1.1.11 as "one last update" for its samurai blockbuster, just 15 months after launch, signalling that this is the end for notable additions. Fans have lamented how Shadows has received noticeably fewer post-launch updates than its enormously-successful predecessor, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Just one expansion, Claws of Awaji, arrived during Shadows' first year — before Ubisoft confirmed it was winding down support. Comparisons between Valhalla and Shadows are difficult, as the...
In the wake of feedback regarding the recently released demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom has issued a brief response to players concerned that the demo does not feel challenging enough for them. “Thank you so much for playing the demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword,” said producer Akihito Kadowaki in the video published via Onimusha’s official social channel. “We’ve heard the feedback that the demo felt too easy for some people.” “First, the demo is just a slice of the early part of the story. Also, we really wanted you to enjoy a variety of Musashi’s actions, so we intentionally equipped him with some late-game skills. Because of that, some players might have felt a lack of challenge. “Rest assured, in the final game, the...
Deltarune Chapter 5 finally has a release date, and Undertale mastermind Toby Fox has used the opportunity to give fans a progress update on Chapter 6. The yearlong wait for more from the lead developer's parallel story RPG finally came to an end when it showed up for today's June 2026 Nintendo Direct. The reveal came with a release date of June 24, 2026, promising to launch the fifth major update for PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in just 15 days. It's been a little more than one year since Chapter 4 launched, so Fox made sure to make the wait worth it with a 46-second video that showed just enough while saving some of the best moments for full release. You can see the teaser footage in the Deltarune...
Vampire Survivors developer Poncle is mixing its laidback shoot-'em-up gameplay with one of the most popular anime out there for a new game called Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton. The unexpected collaboration made its debut at today's Nintendo Direct. With the original Vampire Survivors and this year's Vampire Crawlers now under its belt, Poncle is looking to Yuji Itadori to help fight off a never-ending army of cursed spirits. The first trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton should absolutely look familiar to fans of the studio's previous work. Instead of classic ghouls and ghosts, it gets a Jujutsu Kaisen facelift while still retaining that pixelated style and one-more-run gameplay that helped Vampire Survivors become so...
