Hunters, rejoice! Capcom is slashing the price of Monster Hunter Wilds and introducing new DLC bundles — but certain versions of the game are disappearing. Starting August 4, the Monster Hunter Wilds Deluxe Edition, the Monster Hunter Wilds Premium Deluxe Edition, and the Monster Hunter Wilds Cosmetic DLC Pass will no longer be available for purchase. However, this means that new bundles are on the way. Monster Hunter Wilds Gold Edition, the Monster Hunter Wilds Cosmetic DLC Collection, and the Monster hunter Wilds Extras Cosmetic DLC Pack are entering the fray with content from both the main game and DLC collections, as revealed by the game's official X account on July 13. Monster Hunter Wilds Gold Edition This value-packed bundle...
Steam just had its most profitable period in its entire 22-year history, raking in $11 billion in the last six months — and it's mostly thanks to older games. As shown in data aggregated by Alinea Analytics, this figure rivals what the platform grossed in the whole of 2020 during the peak of the pandemic ($7.2 billion), and much of it was due to purchases of older video games. In fact, only 21% of purchases from January - June were for titles released in 2026. That means a whopping 79% of games bought by players were from 2025 or older. This trend has only been increasing in recent years, with just 29% of 2024 revenue coming from games released that year, and 27% in 2025 from that year’s titles. Alinea Analytics’ breakdown of games...
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's controversial $85 collection of day one DLC earned Ubisoft an extra $1 million on Steam, it's been reported. That's according to Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott, who has published detailed sales information for the game's PC release. Ubisoft itself has officially trumpeted 2 million sales of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced across all platforms in just 24 hours. While the game itself has been warmly received, fans have been less impressed by its optional extra packs, which total a collective $85 — more than the game itself. "Come on Ubisoft you just couldn't hold yourself huh?!" wrote one player via Steam. "Releasing a 70 euro game and on the DAY of the release you slap us with 85 euros worth...
Everything that happens in The Blood of Dawnwalker is rooted in the vampiric takeover of Vale Sangora. During the peak of the Black Death plague, the evil Brencis murdered the valley’s human lord, Skender, and claimed the region for himself. To say he now rules with an iron fist would be putting it too bluntly – this bloodsucker is far more cunning than your regular warlord. Born to nobles during the Roman Empire’s glory years, he’s as cruel as he is dignified, and employs a carefully selected court to aid him in controlling the valley’s population. The people are his flock in both senses of the word; a religious congregation and a blood farm. It’s safe to say, then, that vampires are very important to the story of The Blood of...
England footballing legend David Beckham will soon be available to buy in Fortnite. Beckham announced the collaboration himself today via a post on his Instagram, apparently showing him working on designs for his Fortnite skin. "Working on my new Fortnite character," Becks captioned the post. "Available very soon." A closer look at Fortnite's plans suggest that the game will introduce two separate Beckham skins, allowing you to play as the former England captain wearing his iconic number 7 shirt, or alternatively wearing a suit and tie — as fans will have seen him in the stands watching games at this World Cup. A brief video attached the post seems to show this suited version of Beckham in action, as the real-life superstar peers...
Riot Games has unveiled League of Legends Classic, a new version of its phenomenally successful MOBA designed to tap into nostalgia for the game as it was over 15 years ago. Classic is the biggest change to League of Legends in more than a decade, with gameplay that recreates the feel of the MOBA’s early days, while modernizing select systems for today’s players. Over the years, League of Legends has evolved into a substantially more complex game, with more diverse champion fantasies, skill expression, and mobility, Riot said. In League Classic, combat pacing is more similar to how it was in the past and champions have sharper strengths and weaknesses, encouraging more strategic decision making. The idea is to deliver a “greatest...
It’s rare for a game to directly acknowledge you as a player – normally, we exist in a mutually agreed upon suspension of disbelief with its characters. We are asked to inhabit them, and put ourselves aside. Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a remake of the previously VR-exclusive Moss and Moss: Book 2, discards that notion. You may control its heroine Quill, but you do not become her; you are the Reader, and the distance between you is intentional. It is also what makes Moss remarkable. The Forgotten Relic’s story starts simply – you are in an old library and pick up a book titled Moss. Inside, you meet Quill, a young mouse who dreams of adventure and finds it thanks to a piece of Glass, an artifact of great power and long history. Holding...
For those who grew up playing football games, we all have our favourite FIFA, or FC as it’s now called, cover — the one that first jumped out to us on a store shelf or featured some of our favourite players of the era. Whether it be the mid-to-late 2000s that were dominated by Rooney and Ronaldinho, or the cleaner, more modern Messi and Reus looks to the box art, we all have that one that we see when we close our eyes. But which are the greatest of them all? To find out, we’d love you to rank each of the 21st-century FIFA and FC covers in this tier list to see which come out on top. There’s no real science to this; just go purely on feel, your favourite players, the style that speaks to you most, and what memories are triggered by...
Techland has canceled the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of Dying Light: The Beast, blaming the decision on “the technical realities of development.” First-person zombie-slaying Dying Light: The Beast launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S last year. IGN’s review returned a 7/10. We said: “Dying Light: The Beast is a goofy, bloody sequel with a monstrous twist, but doesn’t do much else to mix things up.” Techland had intended to release the game on the last generation of consoles, although that always felt like a stretch. So it has proven. In a statement published online, Techland said the compromises it would have had to make to get Dying Light: The Beast on PS4 and Xbox One were too great, and it would now offer...
What are the best Sword Art Online games, and will Echoes of Aincrad join them? Fans of the anime are still hoping for a fully fledged MMO set in its universe, but that dream hasn’t become a reality just yet. Instead, we’ve received a steady stream of action RPGs and hack-and-slash adventures, with varying levels of success. Thankfully, a handful of them stand above the rest. If you’re looking to spend more time in the world of Sword Art Online, these are the games worth playing. While anime adaptations don’t always hit the mark, several entries in this series are genuine hidden gems. Sword Art Online: Last Recollection If you’re only going to play one Sword Art Online game, it’s a close call between Last Recollection and Fatal...
Ubisoft Barcelona developers who contributed to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced have spoken out about the company's plans to lay them off — just as their final project becomes a commercial success, selling 2 million copies in around 24 hours. Layoffs at Ubisoft Barcelona were announced last month as part of a wider wave of job losses across the firm. 380 staff are being let go in this latest downsizing, spread across offices in Winnipeg and Belgrade (which will close completely), in Barcelona, and in the company's global publishing division. Ubisoft Barcelona has a history of supporting projects typically led by other, larger Ubisoft studios, such as games in the Rabbids series and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. For Assassin's Creed...
A new look at Kingdom Hearts 4 may be imminent. Disney has confirmed its plans for D23, a Disney-specific convention that covers movies, TV shows, and anything Disney related. While you can expect updates on a bunch of major projects, there is one project that gamers are particularly interested in: Kingdom Hearts 4. While Disney hasn't explicitly confirmed a new look at the game at D23, it did confirm that there will be an hour-long panel celebrating 25 years of Kingdom Hearts. "Join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of Kingdom Hearts," reads the description for the panel. "Discover how this saga united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and...
Montreal-based developer Compulsion Games, who avoided closure amidst the mass layoffs by Xbox Game Studios this month by negotiating its independence, has taken to LinkedIn to let other developers and publishers know that they are open for business – and seemingly open to working as a support studio and/or co-developer on another team's project. "With Compulsion Games returning to its roots as an independent developer, we are expanding opportunities to collaborate with studios across the games and entertainment industry," the studio's LinkedIn post reads. "We invite partners to leverage the talent and creativity of the award-winning team behind South of Midnight...We are excited to support the development of memorable experiences that...

The new PS4 and PS5 port of Call of Duty: Black Ops is being called "unplayable" by fans after exploits have consumed multiplayer lobbies. Last week, Activision released PS4 and PS5 ports of the first two Black Ops games, much to the joy of fans. Although they're a bit pricy for games that have no major updates or changes, fans were just excited to be able to revisit the games they love. With that said, the experience hasn't been smooth. In addition to server and hit registration issues, players are also running into compromised lobbies. Players are able to easily host modded lobbies in Black Ops 1, allowing players to exploit the game. If you manage to get into one of these lobbies, you can just blow yourself up with a grenade as...

The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios has moved to reassure concerned fans that it is still committed to the game despite the impact of significant layoffs at Xbox. Last week, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma started her “reset” of Microsoft’s gaming business by cutting 1,600 staff, with another 1,600 to go over the course of the next 12 months. Bethesda was hit hard by the layoffs. A Maryland WARN Act notice shows 213 employees were laid off from ZOS's office in Cockeysville, MD, and 166 from ZeniMax Media Inc. in Rockville, MD, for a total of 379. While it’s difficult to pin down exactly what the affected staff were working on at these studios because there are blended teams across Bethesda locations, the WARN numbers...
Emo rock band My Chemical Romance have discussed their love for Baldur's Gate during a recent show at Wembley Stadium — though singer Gerard Way revealed he's somehow yet to play Baldur's Gate 3. In a break between songs during the band's current The Black Parade 2026 Tour, MCR frontman Way was alerted to a group of fans holding up a banner asking the question: "Gerard, have you played Baldur's Gate 3?" The sign appears to be the work of TikTok user Katana Luciana, whose query caught the attention of the band — and clearly required a response. "No, I only played Baldur's Gate 1," Way responded. "Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time, y'know." "Did you play...
As was feared after rumors of massive layoffs at Xbox started circulating shortly after this year’s Xbox Showcase, the axe has finally fallen at Team Green. While it is the latest in a series of devastating impact waves that have been hitting Xbox ever since its record $69 billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King became official, it is at least a relief to know that the four studios whose fates seemed in doubt – Double Fine, Compulsion, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory – will all live to fight another day as either independent studios or under new corporate ownership (a fifth, Arkane, remains in flux as Microsoft must navigate French labor laws). But business will clearly be handled differently at Xbox moving forward. New Xbox CEO...
Introducing False Echo, a Papers, Please-inspired 2D pixel-art cryptographic narrative adventure set aboard a WWII submarine. In short, you will man communications via the Obscura machine, figure out what's true and what's false, and use your intuition and deduction prowess to make critical decisions. Multiple endings await based on your choices. Developer Retromagine describes the gameplay as follows: "Operate the Obscura machine to process transmissions. Adjust rotors, connect cables, align signals. Decipher the truth by the standards of the Oppressian Empire. Use the ECHO system to classify messages as TRUE or FALSE. Rules change every day. Orders contradict each other. Truth has many forms, and you must find the one the regime will...
The creative team behind LA Noire considered Mad Men star Jon Hamm for the role of Cole Phelps. I recently interviewed Daniel McMahon, a writer who worked on the Rockstar-published LA Noire, for a YouTube video about the 2011 detective game and its cancelled successor, Whore of the Orient. Our conversation was wide-spanning, but I was curious about one thing: was Jon Hamm ever considered for a part in the game? For those that don't know, LA Noire features a number of actors from the TV series Mad Men, including Aaron Staton, the man who plays the game's protagonist, Cole Phelps. Hamm's breakout role came from playing the lead of Don Draper in Mad Men, so I figured he must've been on developer Team Bondi's radar. McMahon noted that...
Obsidian Entertainment director Brandon Adler is tired of seeing "cold take artists" who are "running their mouths" about how the studio has changed following recent Xbox layoffs. The developer responsible for directing The Outer Worlds 2, as well as a new unannounced project, made his feelings about the conversation surrounding Obsidian clear in a LinkedIn post (via Eurogamer). Noting that it's been "an extremely difficult week" for the team, he spent time bidding farewell to those who were let go before addressing those who have been "coming out of the woodwork to talk about" what the studio "is or what it isn't." "Another difficult aspect is having to see a bunch of cold take artists coming out of the woodwork to talk about what...

Activision has clarified that its recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 ports do in fact support crossplay between PS4 and PS5, following confusion from players online. The official Call of Duty Update X/Twitter account confirmed how the feature works amid a flurry of posts from fans across social media. It comes with clarification that those across both PlayStation platforms will be able to play multiplayer with one another, while also sharing that Season Pass owners can matchmake with non-Season Pass owners, too. "PS4 and PS5 players are able to matchmake with one another," Activision said. "There is no cross-platform play with PS3 or other hardware platforms." When the publisher announced Iron Galaxy was developing...

What are some of the best-looking games of all time? Many examples that come to my mind are not from this generation, but rather the early 2010s: Metal Gear Solid 5, The Witcher 3, and Batman: Arkham Knight all looked stunning upon release, and still do today. To this list I would also add Ryse: Son of Rome, German developer Crytek’s ill-fated Xbox One launch title in which you play as a Roman centurion seeking to avenge his dead family. It is gloriously, mouth-wateringly cinematic, more so than many actual works of cinema. Unfortunately, it’s also rather short, taking only around 6 hours to complete. Former employees say as much as two thirds of planned content had to be cut in the race to make launch day. The crunch was brutal, but...
Bethesda was hit hard by this week’s Xbox layoffs, with cuts to The Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda Game Studios, Doom developer id Software, and The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios, among other parts of the business. A Maryland WARN Act notice shows 213 employees were laid off from ZOS's office in Cockeysville, MD, and 166 from ZeniMax Media Inc. in Rockville, MD, for a total of 379. 96 staff who worked at id Software's office in Richardson, Texas, were cut, alongside a further 40 remote roles. While it’s difficult to pin down exactly what the affected staff were working on at these studios because there are blended teams across Bethesda locations, the WARN numbers undoubtedly make for difficult...
Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has passed 2 million copies sold in its first day since launch. It's a milestone that saw it rank among the best in the franchise and arrived alongside strong player numbers across various platforms. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's July 9 launch saw it land in the number one spot on Twitch, while its concurrent player count on Steam reached a peak of 99,451, a series high. "Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours." Head of Assassin's Creed brand Martin Schelling said in a statement. "Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced...
EA Sports College Football 27 has launched to "Mostly Negative" Steam reviews as fans revolt against pricey microtransactions in offline game modes. The latest in EA's line of College Football video games immediately came under fire when it launched for early access on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S July 6. It all stems from the removal of features for the Road to Glory and Dynasty modes in favor of microtransactions that range from $9.99 to $149.99. In College Football 25 and 26, offline versions of these modes allowed players to customize their experience by using settings to boost XP gain. In College Football 27, EA has gutted those settings, replacing them with the option to spend real-world money to increase things like a...
