The 2026-27 season hasn't even tipped off yet, and I'm already calling for a timeout.

Over the next few months, I’m going to be taking a look back at each of the core Grand Theft Auto games and replaying them in the lead-up to the arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6. What we’ll be putting together won’t be traditional re-reviews, and they won’t come with any new IGN score, but they will re-examine what made each GTA remarkable upon the time of its release. By the end of the project, using GTA’s previously six-star wanted level, you should be able to get an idea of where each of these games roughly rank in my long-term love for this series.

Did you spot the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 in last night's Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look? Rockstar's cowboy epic made a brief appearance — and, of course, some GTA 6 fans spotted it immediately.
During a TV commercial for what might be the unhealthiest burger ever invented, a lush outdoor scene features in the background. A winding river courses through green trees, with several notable rock formations on its banks. Adorning the scene are an array of animals — which will presumably soon be turned into the burger's 30,000 calorie contents.

Star Citizen single-player spinoff Squadron 42 has been delayed to 2027, with developer Chris Roberts insisting it wouldn't get the attention it deserves because of Grand Theft Auto 6.
In a new blog post, Cloud Imperium Games CEO Chris Roberts announced that Squadron 42 will be launching in Q2 2027. The studio had previously announced 2026 as its release window and reaffirmed late last year that it was still targeting that. But according to the CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead, there are two very good reasons why developers shouldn’t be too worried.

Undead Labs has confirmed that it will hold a closed beta for State of Decay 3 before the end of 2026. Forza Horizon 6 has reportedly had its previous PlayStation 5 launch window scrubbed, with the celebrated Xbox racer no longer likely to release in 2026.
That's according to The Verge senior reporter Tom Warren, who wrote on X/Twitter today that he no longer expected the port to arrive before the end of this year. IGN also understands this to be accurate.

Yesterday I got to see a full quest from Fable being played live. That demo largely focussed on the city of Bowerstone, the characters in the capital, and the choices that can be made within each mission. While there were a couple of flashes of combat within what I saw, I wanted to reserve judgment on the action until I got hands on with Fable myself. Well, now I have, and I’m pleasantly surprised by what I played. While there’s joy to be found in the devastating thud of a giant hammer, what impressed me the most is how each of its varied magic spells work in harmony with the foundational melee systems. Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto says that Konami is gunning for annual releases of new games in its flagship horror franchise.
Okamoto divulged this news in an interview with Gamesradar at Gamescom 2026, explaining that Konami is looking for fresh takes on the well-trodden beats of the Silent Hill series to keep it from stagnating.
"Our aim is to, hopefully, have an annual release of new games," he told the outlet. “If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase."
