Capcom has announced plans to pull Dragon’s Dogma 2 microtransactions from sale ahead of the release of the Dark Arisen expansion. The company will discontinue the Deluxe Edition of the action RPG as well as “certain DLC items” on June 24. This comes alongside a permanent discount for the digital version of the base game. In a post on social media, Capcom listed the microtransactions it was pulling from sale, including the character editor and the warp location marker. Dragon’s Dogma 2 was criticized at launch back in 2024 for its microtransactions, with over 21 available on launch day. These ranged in price from $0.99 to $4.99, and included an Explorer’s Camping Kit for $2.99, a $0.99 gaol key that lets you escape from gaol but...
Fortnite fans are forking out real money on eBay for rare species of Sprite — the game's cute new, Pokémon-like creatures that can be collected and traded. Completed eBay listings show people have paid up to $100 for the promise of rare species being shared with them in-game. Hundreds of listings reveal players choosing to spend on the game's most uncommon varieties — including the coveted Zero Point Sprite — and their various rarer special-colored variants. Sprite collecting arrived in Fortnite last weekend as a key part of the battle royale game's most recent season, which introduced extraction mechanics for the first time. The gameplay loop here sees players discovering creatures, levelling them up in power, then securing them for...
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced plans for a social media ban for under-16s. Starmer said the government hopes to pass regulation before Christmas, with the ban coming into effect by spring 2027. The affected platforms include TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter / X, Snapchat, and Instagram, but not messaging services like WhatsApp or Signal. "A full ban is the right choice... I am not prepared to compromise on the safety and happiness of our children," Starmer told the nation in a televised statement. The government also plans to block livestreaming for under-16s, including on gaming platforms, which suggests Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft may need to adjust their console policies in the UK. Similarly, the likes of Twitch...
Behaviour Interactive has revealed that Terrifier icon Art the Clown is coming to Dead by Daylight as part of a new Chapter in November. The studio behind the ongoing asymmetrical multiplayer game announced its latest horror movie collaboration during the 10th Anniversary Broadcast today. It’s a reveal that will see one of the most brutal killers in horror movie history cut, stab, and smile his way into the game, with the Chapter currently planned to arrive at some point in November 2026. For now, all we know about the fall crossover is that it will see Dead by Daylight receive content based on Damien Leone's Terrifier movie series. You can see the logo and release window reveal below. With Friday the 13th, Child's Play, Saw...
The upcoming Dead by Daylight movie will be helmed by Icelandic film director Thordur Palsson (The Damned, The Valhalla Murders), using a screenplay from Alexandre Aja (director of Never Let Go, Crawl, and Piranha 3D) and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (the writer of three films in The Conjuring series, and both Aquaman films). The news was announced during the Dead by Daylight 10th anniversary broadcast, with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum and producer Stephen Mulrooney joining Palsson on stage. "For me, the main thing is capturing the feeling of playing Dead by Daylight," said Palsson. "The main thing is I want to capture the feeling of looking over your shoulder. I want to capture the dread, the tension, the fear of what's waiting...
As months of teases come to a head, Behaviour Interactive is ready to unpack major reveals with its big Dead by Daylight 10th Anniversary Broadcast, and we're here to gather all of the highlights. Through ups, downs, and steel beams named Jim, Dead by Daylight has survived 10 years as not only an endlessly mutating asymmetrical horror game but also an enormously popular multiplayer game in general. Since its original release on June 14, 2016, Behaviour has injected a collection of original Killers and Survivors, as well as an ever-expanding roster of licensed collaborations that have seen franchises like Child's Play, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Resident Evil, Saw, Silent Hill, Alien, Five Nights at Freddy's, and many, many...
Dan Houser doesn’t care that much if you get all the way to the story credits on his games, as long as you’re having fun in the worlds he’s created. “If someone enjoyed a game, that's great,” the Rockstar co-founder and Grand Theft Auto/Red Dead Redemption writer said at a panel at the Tribeca Festival in New York City on Saturday. “If you can’t finish a story, but you loved it in other ways: Great, I don't care. I mean, I would like it if you finish the story because I spent ages on it.
If you enjoyed it, that's enough for you.” Houser’s longtime creative partner Lazlow — who founded the multimedia studio Absurd Ventures with Houser after leaving Rockstar in 2020 — also sat on the panel, adding: “We also love burying very deep Easter...
A new report has claimed Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is speeding up development on new The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Halo games as Microsoft considers restructuring or spinning off its gaming branch. Details on the potential shakeup come from The Information (via Reuters), which reported on the latest in a long line of recent shifts at the company. It says that, according to three of its sources, Microsoft hasn't ruled out turning the brand into a wholly-owned subsidiary. It's said the move could result in Xbox being operated as a joint venture with other partners or even potentially sold. Though how seriously the company is considering the potential strategy is unclear, it's reported that Microsoft currently has no imminent restructuring...
Ubisoft has published a new Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced deep dive, promising loads of new content that wasn't present in the original release. The publisher put a spyglass up to how the remake expands on the 2013 pirate game with a blog post on its website today. It's a lengthy message that teases new Blackbeard missions, reworked assassination and tailing missions, tweaked level design, a skip time feature, and more as Ubisoft does its best to justify a revisit for one of its franchise's most beloved entries. Remakes sometimes boil down to offer little more than updated visuals and minor gameplay tweaks, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. The post begins with the tease that a new...
After years of hints, remakes, leaks, and spin-offs, Atlus has officially confirmed the existence of Persona 6, the next mainline game in the iconic RPG series. Here’s everything we know about the new game, including what’s been officially confirmed as well as the most recent spread of leaks and rumors. The Road to an Official Announcement Persona 6 was officially announced on June 7, 2026, at an official Xbox Games Showcase. The reveal announcement happened to coincide with the series' 30th anniversary, and included a short teaser with some delightfully creepy imagery. Persona 6 was first teased all the way back in 2018, when the Persona studio's chief director, Kazuhisa Wada, told Dengeki PlayStation (later translated by Persona...
The upcoming genre-blending “musical Lovecraftian renovation” game There Are No Ghosts at the Grand has announced Broadway actor and singer Alex Brightman as the voice of its lead character, Chris. Brightman has been nominated twice for Best Actor in a Musical at the Tonys — in 2016 for School of Rock and 2019 for Beetlejuice. He’s currently starring in Schmigadoon! on Broadway and voices multiple characters on the animated series Hazbin Hotel. The reveal comes on the heels of the game taking the top prize among 12 submissions at the 25th anniversary of the Tribeca Games Festival in New York City. There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is the debut from British studio Friday Sundae, and I had the chance to play a 30-ish minute demo and...
Dark Souls and Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki recently commented on the shareholder pressure that is putting FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa in the news lately. Reassuring fans, he insisted that Fromsoftware can still “freely make the kind of games we want to make without excessive interference." Kadokawa has been in the news in Japan lately, as an activist investment firm has gradually acquired the largest stake in the Japanese multimedia conglomerate. As previously reported by IGN back in March, Oasis Management Company is a major activist investor in Kadokawa that has raised its stake to 13.76%, according to Kadokawa’s latest AGM announcement. For context, this even beats out second biggest shareholder Sony’s 11.01%...
Activision has confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access, which begins October 16 — a full week before the game’s release date. Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty game to get Campaign early access since 2023's Modern Warfare 3, whose Campaign was poorly received (IGN awarded it 4/10). 2024's Black Ops 6 and 2025's Black Ops 7 both skipped Campaign early access, so perhaps Modern Warfare 4 returning to the feature signals a confidence in this year's Campaign at Activision. In a blog post, Activision said that to gain access to Campaign early access, you have to pre-order the game. This applies to those pre-ordering or pre-purchasing the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition of the game on Xbox Series...
The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series has largely found its footing as an action-brawler, extending to the Judgment games and perhaps informing parts of the turn-based combat systems in its RPGs. Stranger Than Heaven, which has a direct lineage with the rest of those games, takes a much different turn when it comes to action combat. No longer are you like Kiryu beating down waves of menacing men with swift combos and over-the-top heat actions like a superhero. You're the scrappy Makoto Daito, who moves like a boxer in a game that asks you to take deliberate, calculated shots by controlling each of his limbs individually – whether he's using his bare knuckles or any of the melee weapons he keeps tucked. After playing roughly an hour of...
To the casual observer, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag might seem like yet another pretty looking upgrade to a popular game quickly put together for the sole purpose of cashing in on hits of yesteryear, but that’s not how the team at Ubisoft approached this rather ambitious remake to one of the most beloved Assassin’s Creed games. Not only has this seafaring adventure been completely overhauled in the same Ubisoft Anvil engine that Assassin’s Creed Shadows used, but some pretty large changes have been made to combat and other various game mechanics (which you can read about in our preview from last month). But one surprising area that has certainly not been neglected is the story, and the lead writer of the original game, Darby McDevitt...
As Destiny 2 fans mourn the game's final update, Bungie's former community manager has blasted players fixated on comparing its player count with fledgling extraction shooter Marathon — and said that the company's current issues began long before its arrival, as well as Sony's acquisition. Since Marathon debuted in March, and particularly since Bungie announced it was ending development of new Destiny 2 content, fans have continually compared the numbers of players in each game — and scrutinized Marathon's lower player count in particular. To many, every time Destiny 2 spiked in popularity, its rising player count was proof that Bungie (and Sony) had acted too soon in ending support. Every fresh ebb for Marathon, meanwhile, served as...
Developer Odaclick Game Studio and publisher Trailmark Games have announced The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, a new pixelated beat 'em up starring Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne. This single-player game set in the world of AMC's zombie franchise was announced today with its first trailer. It's set to come to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, though no release date was shared. In The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival's first 30-second gameplay clip, it looks like Rick, Daryl, and Michonne will be the three characters players can control, with each sporting their own unique weapons, pulled directly from the main show. While Rick can be seen wielding his trusty magnum revolver...
It was striking to see actor Ben Starr stride out onto the Summer Game Fest stage at the weekend to give a double-thumbs up in support of Fortnite - though perhaps not for the reasons Epic would have liked. For many years, the battle royale has been the Polaris that CEOs and shareholders have steered their ships towards, representing the promise of steady success and a ready audience built around a single game. That daydream curdled in the post-pandemic era, when Fortnite became the focal point of metaverse mania: a grand philosophy for digital shopping malls that inspired gabbled essays from executives, yet failed to coalesce into anything tangible. Now the money which fuelled that movement has been funnelled into the next pipedream...
In about 16 minutes of hands-on time with Bad Magpie, I torched flowers, added even more chaos to the mess humans left behind with a sonic bird call, and thoroughly disgruntled some innocent mice. Bad Magpie is instantly charming, and from what I played, has great puzzles to go with its chaos. Bad Magpie follows a magpie that's been left behind by her flock after an injury leaves it unable to fly. The magpie comes across a beautiful fallen star that also has a love for shiny trinkets. Alone and looking for company, the magpie decides to collect trinkets for the star to try and win it over. In the demo, I was tasked with getting a red badge for the star. When I came across it in a dark school playground, it was swiftly scooped up by...
Xbox will likely undergo studio shutdowns and consider ad-supported subscription models following newly-installed CEO Asha Sharma's blunt warning that a corporate "reset" was now necessary, gaming analysts have told IGN. Sharma's memo to Xbox employees, subsequently published publicly online, painted an unflinching portrait of the problems facing Microsoft's gaming division — and made it clear that difficult decisions were now necessary in the coming days. Indeed, the memo's arrival prompted a report by Bloomberg that suggested a wave of layoffs would arrive as soon as next month — bringing excitement around the brand crashing back to earth after an encouraging Xbox Games Showcase, which included peeks at numerous upcoming blockbusters...
Crimson Desert is a hit, selling over 6 million copies in less than three months. Despite initial reception at launch being mixed, the sprawling single-player open world action adventure has caught on with fans, who have marveled at the sheer number of updates Pearl Abyss has pumped out on a weekly basis, each one improving the quality of the game and added new content in a meaningful — and often surprising — way. But there’s no sign of Pearl Abyss slowing down. The South Korean studio has said it wants to ensure Crimson Desert receives long-term support, outlining a summer roadmap of content that includes improvements to the core narrative – a recurring criticism of the game. And there’s even DLC in the works. During Summer Game Fest...
Resident Evil’s overall timeline can be a little hard to follow depending upon your entry point to the series. But producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has emphasized that, with Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom is reworking the story to make sure its place in the chronology is clear, while ensuring the remake keeps what fans loved about the original. Japanese news outlet Famitsu reported on a recent Summer Games Fest press conference with Hirabayashi on the Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake, due out in 2027. The original Code: Veronica was released 27 years ago, and there have been many Resi games released since then. Story-wise, Hirabayashi noted that for the Veronica remake Capcom has been taking into account plotlines in other games...
Nintendo may only receive a $30,000 payout if it wins its high-profile legal battle with Palworld developer Pocketpair, an IP expert has said. But it's looking increasingly likely that Nintendo will lose. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are currently embroiled in ongoing litigation with Pocketpair in Japan, with patents that revolve around how Pokémon games work at the heart of the lawsuit. Palworld arrived on Steam priced $30 and launched straight into Game Pass on Xbox and PC in early 2024, breaking sales and concurrent player number records in the process. Pocketpair boss Takuro Mizobe has said Palworld's launch was so big that the developer couldn’t handle the massive profits the game generated. Still, Pocketpair acted swiftly to...
Streaming can give free publicity to a game, but in the case of story-heavy genres like RPGs, there’s the danger that people will be satisfied just watching someone else play through the game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi recently spoke out about this, saying that gameplay streams pose a huge challenge to RPG makers, as they need to ensure that their game is interesting enough that players actually want to pick it up and play it themselves. Currently hard at work on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation (the final part of the 1997 RPG’s remake trilogy due in spring 2027), Hamaguchi told Japanese news site 4Gamer about the challenges that game streaming poses to Final Fantasy and game creators. Hamaguchi warned that...
Anyone keeping up with the many updates Pearl Abyss has been pumping out for Crimson Desert will know that the developer has leaned heavily into the pet aspect of the game. Various patches have expanded how Crimson Desert pets work, fleshing out the systems that make use of them, increasing the number of animals that can become pets, and even adding new animations for when you interact with them. Now, Crimson Desert’s latest patch cements the game’s status as a genuine pet simulator by adding new challenges that let you register up to 100 pets. That’s a big jump and will surely see players build sizeable animal armies, if that’s the kind of thing they’re into of course. There are some limiting factors here. You can only summon up to...
The Forza support team has issued a new statement explaining it is investigating an issue within Forza Horizon 6 that is causing save game progress to be lost or reset. The statement does not outline what may be at the root of the problem, but a theory has quickly formulated within the Forza Horizon 6 community that it may be related to certain cars – most of which have been recently made available to win in-game. While there remain players who maintain they are using these cars without incident, the loose consensus so far is that players should otherwise steer clear of the 1993 Schuppan 962CR, the 2003 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, the 1988 Lamborghini Countach LP5000QV, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, and the 2020 Wuling Sunshine S Forza...
Action RPG Valor Mortis has conceded defeat when it comes to the September gaming arms race and announced a short delay. Last week, it became abundantly clear that September is going to be one of the most crowded months for video game releases in history. It seems to be the rough cut-off for most game launches before GTA 6 hits the business like an atomic bomb. There are a couple of exceptions, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is being released in October. However, it appears most other games don't want to be too close to the blast radius of GTA 6. Of course, the overwhelming amount of September releases means that the situation arguably isn't much better for some games. As a result, Valor Mortis (a game that announced its...
Swords are awesome. Whether you're a Final Fantasy 7 fan or not, there's no denying the draw of a massive buster sword. It's like an oversized meat cleaver that looks incredibly inconvenient to use, but absolutely awesome to display on your wall. It's one of those things you didn't know you needed until an Amazon discount suddenly thrusts its way into view. Which is exactly what's happening right now with this Cloud Strife replica sword. It's made out of stainless steel and is currently discounted to its lowest price in months. We posted this on the IGN Finds X account yesterday and it was easily one of the most popular items of the day at this price. Listen, nobody actually needs a giant sword, but that doesn't mean you can't yearn...
Defense wins championships. It’s an old adage that you’ll hear across both college football and the NFL. Great teams – championship teams – make stops in the big moments. They separate a receiver’s soul from their body when they hit them. They instill fear. That’s probably why EA started off with defense when talking about College Football’s junior season. Many of these changes are also coming to Madden as well, so let’s get back to the gridiron and talk about it. One of the big changes is improved coverage that comes through a system EA is calling Look for Work. What this means is defenders won’t just wait until an offensive player enters their zone to cover them. Now, they’ll play with anticipation, which means better coverage. The...
Have you ever had your head checked by a jumbo jet? Not easy, is it? But then, nothing is. Least of all getting Blur’s "Song 2" out of your head at any point in the rest of your life after playing FIFA: Road To World Cup 98, the best official tournament tie-in title there’s ever been. Play it now and you will spot some clues that 28 years have passed since EA Canada wrote its magical code. There is not one single pack for you to open, for example. It does not feature accurate World Cup 2026 squads, kits, or stadiums. It does not even know about the year 2026. 2026 is science fiction to FIFA: Road To World Cup 98. It knows only a moment, crystallised in time onto a game disc, in which Britpop and big beats provide the soundtrack for an...
