‘It Was Getting Damaged and Broken Apart’ – Pete Hines Says Bethesda Is Part of Something That Is Not ‘Authentic’ or ‘Genuine’
Former Bethesda Softworks marketing lead Pete Hines has opened up about how he saw the Fallout publisher get "damaged and broken apart" before announcing his retirement in 2023. The now-retired gaming industry veteran touched on why he chose to step away from Bethesda during a wide-ranging interview with Firezide Chat. When reminiscing about his decades-long journey through the release of everything from Doom to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Hines shared his feelings about changes within the company and what ultimately drove him to leave. Hines had previously stated that it made sense for him to retire around the launch of the long-awaited Starfield and reiterated that point in the new interview. Although moving on meant leaving...

New Crimson Desert Patch Just Dropped With Many of the Improvements Pearl Abyss Said Were Due in the Coming Months, and Some It Hadn't Mentioned at Al
Just a day after Pearl Abyss’ announcement of the various improvements it said were coming soon to Crimson Desert, we have a new patch that adds many of them already — and even a few changes fans hadn't expected. The highlights of the patch, as detailed on the Crimson Desert website, are a new weapons display option, which means you can hide weapons from the back of your character (so long, shield!), the addition of skills for the secondary playable characters, which makes them more viable to play, and various user interface improvements. But there’s a lot in the update (patch notes below) that Pearl Abyss hadn’t mentioned. For example, Pearl Abyss has improved the usability of the Greymane camp (I won’t say how exactly, to avoid...
Disney Extraction Shooter Reportedly in Development at Epic Games
Fortnite developer Epic Games is reportedly working on a new extraction shooter featuring Disney characters that is set to launch later this year. A Bloomberg report states the currently unnamed spinoff is expected to launch November 2026. It, as well as the other two unnamed titles, is said to be the result of a $1.5 billion investment Disney made in the gaming giant back in 2024. According to the site’s sources, the mystery extraction experience is said to be a shooting game not unlike Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders, which launched to impressive player numbers and wound up a massive success for the developer late last year. Those familiar with the Disney game say some at Epic are optimistic the project will stick the landing at...
Doki Doki Literature Club Suddenly Removed From Google Play Store
Google has removed Doki Doki Literature Club from the Play Store due to what is said to be a violation of its terms of service. Serenity Forge, the publisher behind the 2021 re-release of the beloved visual novel, published a joint statement with creator Dan Salvato regarding its sudden removal yesterday. The message says Google communicated “its depiction of sensitive themes” as the cause of its removal and points out that it remains available to purchase on other platforms, including iOS, Nintendo Switch, and the PlayStation Store. “DDLC is widely celebrated for portraying mental health in a way that meaningfully connects deeply with players around the world, helping them feel heard, understood, and less alone on their journey,”...
Konami Reveals Steelbook for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, No Word on Whether It's Coming to the US
Konami UK has officially revealed a brand new Steelbook for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. There is no word on whether it will be available in other regions at this time. Preorders are set to go live for the new Steelbook case on April 10, although no retailers currently have it listed in the UK. It is also currently unclear whether this is a separate release or part of a Steelbook Edition that will also include the base game. IGN has reached out to Konami for clarity and comment on the above. For now, what we do know is that the new Steelbook case, featuring "timeless artwork of Old Snake and Big Boss", will at least launch alongside Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 on August 27, 2026, for...
Resident Evil Requiem Denuvo DRM Fully Cracked, Making It the First 2026 Game to Have Its Copy Protection Bypassed
It's getting harder every year to fully crack Denuvo, but it's still not impossible, and now Resident Evil Requiem has been cracked by voices38 (via TheGamer). Resident Evil Requiem has been around for about six weeks, and while pirates were technically able to get around the Denuvo DRM by running a virtual machine, or hypervisor, it was risky and complicated, requiring you to completely disable Windows security and Secure Boot. With voices38's crack, though, you just have to modify the game's .exe file, making it much safer to actually run. In the past, Denuvo cracks came a lot faster, but the DRM has been getting harder to patch out of a game's files. These traditional cracks are still coming, but they're much slower, with last...
This Hardcover Skyrim Library Set Includes Every Book From the Game, Now 45% Off
We’re still talking about Skyrim in 2026. While Bethesda continues (or maybe even starts) to chug along on Elder Scrolls 6, I am one of many who find themselves going back to the 2011 classic. Or, at the very least, still watching video essays about it. Bethesda quickly caught on to the power of its own lore, releasing a series of hardcover ‘Skyrim Library’ books between 2015 and 2017. The full set of all three volumes normally costs $110, but a new Amazon deal has dropped that price by 45%, down to just $68. Skyrim Library Drops to Lowest Price This Year The Skyrim Library collects pretty much every single book in the game. Yes, even The Lusty Argonian Maid. The texts themselves are complemented by concept art and original...
Resident Evil Generation Pack On Switch 2 Is Finally Back at Amazon After Being Out of Stock for Far Too Long
After a long period of being out of stock online, the Resident Evil Generation Pack on Nintendo Switch 2 is available once again at Amazon (see it here). If you’ve had your eyes on this stacked horror collection for Nintendo’s latest handheld, which was released in celebration of Resident Evil’s 30th Anniversary, it’s now available to buy at Amazon for $89.99. You’ll want to act fast to grab it, though, as who knows how much longer it will be available at the retailer. Alongside the recently released Resident Evil Requiem - a game we said, “successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation” in our review - this pack also comes with Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition...
The Lord of the Rings and The Boys Star Karl Urban Throws His Hat in the Ring for Potential Red Dead Redemption Movie — and He Knows Exactly Who He Wa
Hollywood actors keep bringing up a potential Red Dead Redemption movie and saying they would love to be in it. After Jack Black revealed he’d love to star in a Red Dead Redemption movie, despite the fact he doesn’t think Rockstar would ever greenlight it, Karl Urban has thrown his hat into the ring. Urban, star of The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, The Boys, Dredd and so much more, even suggested the character he’d love to play: John Marston. In an interview with Square Mile, Urban was asked if there were any other video game adaptations he’d love to star in, having played Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. “Red Dead Redemption is one of my favourites,” he replied. “Red Dead is a fantastic game. It’s interesting because I...
'We Actually Didn't Nerf Tracer's Butt' — 10 Years On, Former Overwatch Boss is Still Being Asked About That Pose Change
It's 2026, and Jeff Kaplan, the former boss of Blizzard hero shooter Overwatch, is still being asked about a supposed "nerf" to Tracer's butt. Cast your minds back to the simpler times of 2016, when the world was quieter and greener, and Overwatch was still in beta. Amid a frenzy of excitement for Blizzard's next big franchise, one big controversy stood out that soured some fans on the game's promise: Blizzard's decision to alter a pose focused on lead character Tracer's bottom. Blizzard made the call back in March 2016 to adjust the Tracer's "Over the Shoulder" victory pose, after the character's somewhat suggestive positioning drew fire from players. Their critique — one that Kaplan ultimately said he agreed with — was that it...
Samson’s ‘70s Muscle Car Turned Me Into Ryan Gosling’s Getaway Driver
Ever since I watched it on opening night back in 2011, I’ve always wanted to play a video game that captured the essence of Nicolas Winding Refn’s masterpiece, Drive. The absolute effortless cool of Ryan Gosling’s unnamed getaway driver has yet to be replicated in any game I’ve played. Well, until now, that is, thanks to a… hoodie-wearing, down-on-his-luck, dad-looking dude in his mid-40s named “Samson McCray”. Yeah, this is going to take some explaining. Drive’s prologue is not a classic high-intensity getaway sequence. Instead, Gosling’s calm demeanour sees him drive two masked criminals through the streets of LA in such a casual manner that it pretty much distresses his on-edge passengers. Where most Hollywood drivers would be...
Massive Sonic Sale Hits Amazon as SEGA Continues 2026 "Forever Fast" Anniversary Year Celebrations
Sonic’s official 35th anniversary doesn’t land until June, but Sega is already treating 2026 like one long victory lap for the blue blur - dubbed as "Forever Fast" celebrations. That means early deals, and plenty of them. Amazon has kicked things off with a genuinely massive sale across Sonic the Hedgehog games, 4K Blu-rays, and comics. There’s a lot here, maybe too much, and not all of it is worth your time. So instead of throwing everything at you, here’s a quick run-through of the deals that actually matter, plus the ones I’d personally spend money on. Listen, I’m not pretending to be objective here. I love Sonic. Played everything, stuck with it through the rough years, and still show up every time. It’s one of those series...

Pragmata lands on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox, and PC on April 17, landing not long after the success of Resident Evil Requiem. It's already looking like it could be another banger for Capcom. 'You Saw Nothing' — Facepunch Founder Garry Newman Denies Rust 2 in Development After Steam Listing Raises Eyebrows
Facepunch founder Garry Newman has denied the existence of a secret Rust sequel, after a Steam listing for the game popped up online. Suspicions of some kind of viral Rust 2 announcement were piqued last night when a reddit thread appeared highlighting a — real — Steam page for "Rust 2." Within minutes, the thread elicited a swift, potentially teasing response from a Facepunch developer, stating: "You saw nothing." But as players debated whether this new game might be a full sequel or the long-awaited port of Rust on a new engine (the current version was built using Unity), Newman ultimately stepped in to set the record straight. "Nope. We're not making Rust 2," Newman said in a short statement passed to PC Gamer, claiming that he...
Crimson Desert Dev Confirms Boss Rematches, Hard Difficulty, Enemy Territory Recapture, and a Whole Lot More Is Coming Soon
Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss has outlined a number of significant changes coming to the game in the coming months, each addressing various community complaints that were highlighted recently. There are some real crowd-pleasers in Pearl Abyss’ blog post, including boss rematches, enemy territory recapture, and difficulty settings. But beyond that, Pearl Abyss also confirmed upgrades to the two secondary characters, Damiane and Oongka, to bring them more in line with main playable character Kliff, new pets and mounts, new outfits, and significant changes to storage. Meanwhile, user interface and control improvements are on the way, as well as improvements to distant scenery quality. Perhaps the most important change is you’ll be...
Marathon Reportedly Had a Budget of Over $200 Million — and While the Pressure Is on Bungie to Gain More Players, It Is Not Facing an Imminent, Concor
A new report has claimed Marathon’s budget is over $200 million, and while player numbers have fallen significantly since launch, Bungie’s extraction shooter is allegedly not facing an imminent shutdown. Forbes reported that the Marathon budget is likely more than $250 million. It’s worth noting that this spend allegedly does not include ongoing costs for the live service game, nor the development of post-launch content. Last month, one analyst said “Marathon hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted,” estimating sales at around 1.2 million copies. That, Alinea Analytics said, amounted to gross revenues of around $55 million across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam, Marathon hit a peak...
World of Warcraft Fans Think Blizzard Is About to Try and Revisit Its Least Popular Expansion
World of Warcraft: Midnight is a very purple expansion, thanks to its primary antagonist being the Void. There's a big purple beam shooting from the sky in the distance all the time. Most of the enemies are purple. Two out of three of the major raids and several dungeons and delves are purple. And the main villain, Xal'atath, is very purple. Given all the purple going around, it's not too much of a shock that Blizzard finally brought back one of its simultaneously best-loved and most-hated purple characters for a plot twist at the end of the most recent raid. What is shocking, though, is the news that character delivered: a hint that we might be careening toward a revisit to one of World of Warcraft's most maligned (and only...
Neverway Preview: A Compelling and Strange Mystery Adventure
I first meet Fiona when she’s taking a depression bath. She’s thinking about floating away to a remote island she’s seen in an ad when her doorbell rings. It’s the instant noodles I ordered (Neverway asked me to pick a food), and when you’re ordering instant noodles, you know you’re down horrendous. A quick check of her computer tells the story: my girl has stopped coming to work, and she’s been fired. She has five days to pick up her things from the office before they’re recycled. Fiona hasn’t replied. Another email is from foxyrogue1 letting Fiona know that foxyrogue1 has her hoodie. When she doesn’t reply, foxyrogue reaches out to see if Fiona’s okay. She doesn’t reply to that one either. But her email reveals other secrets, too...
Crop Is a Narrative-Driven Farming Sim That Starts With You Burying the Corpse of a Farmer
When I hear "like Twin Peaks" anytime someone refers to their game, I sit down with certain expectations. For all its darkness, Twin Peaks is whimsical, even in its horror. Crop, the debut game coming from Carbonara Games in collaboration with 11Bit Studios, was said to have "Twin Peaks-style horror" by the pair from 11Bit presenting the game to me, yet Crop seemingly lacks any goofiness or some sort of grounded relief I'd expect in a Twin Peaks-inspired piece of media — and it may be better for it. In my hands-off demo, I saw how Crop clearly defines itself from its many idyllic farming sim counterparts by putting the hard, tedious work of farming front and center with a moody palette to match. And maybe some blood sacrifices too...
Free-to-Play Borderlands Mobile Game Suddenly Available as 'Limited-Time Test' on iPhone
A brand new free-to-play Borderlands game has suddenly launched today on iPhone, and you'd be forgiven for not knowing it was due for release. The game was quietly published today by mobile giant Zynga, though is developed by British studio NaturalMotion, which previously worked on Star Wars: Hunters. Right now, Borderlands Mobile currently exists on the App Store as part of a "limited-time test", according to a statement about the game sent to Gematsu — something that also reveals Borderlands creator Gearbox was involved simply in an advisory role. Described as a free-to-play "epic looter shooter", Borderlands Mobile is currently only available on iPhone (there's no Android version, yet) and only in the US. We've tried accessing...

Japanese Pen Containing Live Parasite Goes Viral, Catching the Attention of Resident Evil Fans Who Know How This Goes
If you’ve checked social media today, you may have stumbled across a see-through ballpoint pen with real parasites swimming around inside it (and maybe dismissed it as AI slop). Prompting grossed-out reactions and comparisons to Resident Evil, the pen is actually a real souvenir from Japan’s Kochi Prefecture. Earlier this year, Japan’s Asahi News fished out the origins of this strange writing implement. Even though the pen looks like something you’d find on Wesker’s desk, it’s a real product purchasable from a fishmongers’ shop in Susaki city, Kochi Prefecture. The transparent section of the pen contains living Anisakis, a type of fish-dwelling parasite, suspended in a clear liquid. The parasite can cause food poisoning if you eat raw...
Samson Has One Thing That GTA Doesn’t: Consequences
Cards on the table: Samson is glitchy. It’s janky. You’re as likely to fail a mission from getting stuck on some decorative bin bags as you are from being beaten to death. These are all issues that can be fixed, but only with the kind of rigorous update schedule that beleaguered developer Liquid Swords is unlikely to be able to pull off. So, in its current state at least, it’s difficult to recommend. I’m gonna do that annoying thing now that people in my line of work love doing: I’m going to contradict everything I just said with a big but. As in, “however”, not my ass. But (there it is), Samson offers such an interesting and unique take on the open world crime caper that it does warrant some consideration as a low-cost stopover on...

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is now available to preorder for Switch 2. The upgraded release was announced during a Nintendo Direct last year, and includes new armor sets and starting classes in addition to the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The new preorder listing confirms the Tarnished Edition will be priced at $79.99. However, it also confirms the new edition only comes with a game-key card. Halloween Cuts Deeper Than Other 4v1 Games | IGN Preview
The first thing I did in Halloween was pick up a pickaxe. I thought it might give me a fighting chance against him. I was right. A couple minutes later, I ran into Michael Myers, the Shape himself. The fight that followed that quick: his knife against my pickaxe. I knocked him down, but that didn’t mean I won. He’s the boogeyman. Give him a minute, and he sits right back up. But it was enough time for me to get a headstart. If I wanted to survive a night in Haddonfield, that would have to be enough. If there was ever a film that was primed to be an asymmetrical horror game, John Carpenter’s Halloween is it. But after spending some time with it at PAX East, what makes Illfonic’s latest stand out isn’t the asymmetrical horror structure...
