The Assassin's Creed franchise needs no introduction, but here we are anyway. 12 (soon to be 13) main games, 17 spin-off games, books, comics, and a film that we'd all rather forget about. The world of AC is absolutely teeming with vibrant characters and it's brought fans into close contact with a range of bygone eras from Ptolemaic Egypt to Victorian London. In the fall of this year, the popular franchise is going to be taking us back to basics with the stripped-down and narrative-driven Assassin's Creed Mirage. With the franchise's continued fine health and strong fanbase, the demand (and indeed supply) for merch and themed trinkets is strong. As we've done with other popular franchises, we've compiled a collection of our very...
Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has delayed Patch 3 from today, September 21, to tomorrow, September 22 — although it sounds like it could be delayed further. In a tweet, Larian described Patch 3 as “a big one”, and said that it delayed its release to tomorrow “to ensure thorough testing”. In a follow-up tweet, Larian boss Swen Vincke said: “Cross fingers for patch 3 - it's going through its final round of QA today and if it passes, we can release it tomorrow. You can do this patch 3!” Patch 3 is intended to launch alongside full support for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Mac. The hope for Patch 3 is that it addresses ongoing performance issues, particularly with Act 3, across PC and console now the sprawling Dungeons and Dragons-themed...
Three-and-a-half years after it exploded onto the scene, the original Warzone shuts down forever today, sparking nostalgia-fuelled goodbye posts from fans. Warzone launched on March 10, 2020 as a free-to-download battle royale spin-off from the previous year’s Modern Warfare reboot. It enjoyed instant success boosted by stay-at-home gaming during covid lockdowns, and made Activision millions. Warzone was so successful that it fundamentally changed Call of Duty forever, with the battle royale becoming the focal point of the franchise, and premium launches feeding into it to varying success. With Warzone 2.0’s release last year, Activison relaunched and renamed the original Warzone as Warzone Caldera, and announced plans to shut it...

This chart contains a Bethesda release schedule, which is now over three years old. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is coming to Xbox and Windows PC as a day-one Game Pass title when it launches on November 9 later this year, Microsoft has announced. The Yakuza historical spinoff Like a Dragon: Ishin! also joins the subscription service later this year. “By playing this game, you’ll more fully appreciate the next game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,” explained Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Masayoshi Yokowama during an appearance at the Xbox Tokyo Games Show broadcast. “It also allows you to understand what kind of man Kazuma Kiryu is, his way of life, and his personality,” continued Yokowama. “Thus this work is a good start even for those who have never touched the series.” Like a Dragon Gaiden...
Microsoft made a number of announcements during its Xbox Digital Broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2023, most of which revolved around Japan and Japan-inspired games and updates. Xbox executives Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond talked about the importance of the Japanese market. "Japan will always have a special place in my heart for pioneering innovative ways to play, from the Game Boy, to PSP, to the Switch," Spencer said. Xbox went on to reveal a collaboration between legendary Japanese developers Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro and Goichi “Suda51” Suda, announce an Xbox version of Octopath Traveller 2, and confirm a raft of Game Pass additions. If you missed today's broadcast, fear not. This roundup goes over all the biggest news and reveals that...
I had assumed that the Like a Dragon formula could only thrive in the Japanese settings inspired by Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, but after having a 20-minute hands-on with the game at Tokyo Game Show I can confidently say that the series’ signature streetfighting and silliness has stayed strong in its switch to a sun-kissed Hawaiian island without missing a beat - or indeed a beatdown. With Ichiban Kasuga trading his wide-lapel leisure suit for a flowery shirt and flip-flops, my hands-on with Infinite Wealth began on a local beach where I had to immediately beach off a gang of local thugs. While it stopped short of a Ken vs Ken-style dance battle, certainly Ichiban and the gang are more fleet footed in combat this time around, since...
While it's sadly not playable at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Everstone Studios' ambitious open-world action RPG was highlighted today in a special IGN Japan livestream, and we've got the full 18 minutes of gameplay footage here for you to check out in stunning 4K. The action starts with a fiery assault on horseback through fields of flowers highly reminiscent of Ghost of Tsushima's gorgeous vistas, before crashing straight into a boss fight. When he went hands on with it back at Gamescom 2023 in August, Matt Purslow suggested that the boss encounter in Where Winds Meet wasn't exactly Dark Souls-level in difficulty, but its fast-paced slashing and parrying would suggest that it isn't exactly for babies either (despite the fact the main...
Hideo Kojima isn't shy about his love for movies. The creator behind games like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding even wanted to make movies before becoming a game developer, and his games often pay homage to some of his favorites. Even Snake, the main character of the Metal Gear Franchise, is named after Escape from New York's protagonist, Snake Plissken. He famously goes out of his way to inject cinematic sensibilities into his works and loves working with big-name actors. The man just loves movies. Criterion, the organization behind the Criterion Collection, invited Hideo Kojima to do a video in its 'Closet Picks' series on its YouTube channel. The series is dedicated to highlighting notable voices in creative industries where a...
Glen Schofield, who co-created Dead Space and most recently directed The Callisto Protocol, is leaving Striking Distance Studios. In a new report published by Bloomberg and independently confirmed by IGN, Schofield is departing the Krafton-owned studio. A Krafton representative told both IGN and Bloomberg that Schofield voluntarily departed the company, stating that he has "decided to pursue new opportunities." Bloomberg's report also notes that Stacey Hirata, Striking Distance's COO, and Johnny Hsu, the CFO, are also departing the company. "Creating Striking Distance Studios has been an incredible journey and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved with The Callisto Protocol, a game close to my heart," Schofield said in a statement...
Sega has released an adorable animated short prologue for Sonic Superstars starring the villainous trio Dr. Eggman, Fang the Hunter, and newcomer Trip. The short, which was shared on Sonic the Hedgehog’s official social media accounts on Wednesday, is directed by IDW Sonic comic artist Evan Stanley and Tyson Heese, written by Ian Flynn, and animated by Powerhouse Animation. It mostly centers on Fang’s journey into the ruins with his cohorts before the events of Sonic Superstars. In the short, Fang has a nightmare where he encounters Sonic and the gang, who best him by inserting the battery of the Marvelous Queen the wrong way, sending his vehicle plummeting to the ground with the drill and Amy delivering the final blow with her Piko...
Last week, CD Projekt Red shared that the game's big 2.0 update – the long-awaited overhaul that promises to rework many of the game's systems – will launch tomorrow, August 21. While the announcement video confirmed a date, it left out what time the patch would go live, leaving fans to speculate what time they'd be able to jump into the newly overhauled Night City. Earlier today, CDPR took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce a new stream in its RedStreams series, which the Warsaw, Poland-based studio often uses to reveal new updates and information on Cyberpunk 2077. The stream's scheduled for 4:00 PM CEST (or 7:00 AM PST or 5 PM BST). This announcement led to widespread speculation that Update 2.0's launch would somehow...
If you love Fire Emblem and have been looking for something similar, Dark Deity may be just what you've been waiting for. Between grid-based movement, a battle team largely comprised of fantasy child soldiers with a wide array of hair colors, relationship building, and a 'weapons triangle' type of 'rock/paper/scissors' gameplay, there are lots of familiar elements. And, as luck, would have it, IGN Plus is offering keys for Dark Deity right now. Already an IGN Plus member? Grab your key here. Not an IGN Plus member yet? Join here. What is Dark Deity? If you've been looking for a stylish online multiplayer RPG, with more of a focus on action than characters in most MMOs, Wayfinder could be just what the doctor ordered. Luckily, if you are a subscriber to IGN Plus, you can also grab a key for it right now. Already an IGN Plus member? Grab your key here. Not an IGN Plus member yet? Join here. What is Wayfinder? Evil Dead: The Game will not receive any new content and the planned Switch version has been canceled, developer Saber Interactive announced. Servers for the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions of the asymmetrical multiplayer game, however, will remain online "for the foreseeable future." "Today, we have made the decision not to pursue the development of new content for Evil Dead: The Game," Saber wrote on X. "We will keep the servers up for the foreseeable future and address any major issues that arise." Saber did not explain its decision, though it's worth noting the developer's parent company, Embracer Group, announced a major restructuring plan in June to decrease spending and become a "leaner, stronger, and a more focused...
Starfield is a massive open world that is itching to be explored, but a lack of maps, especially for its established cities, can make it a pain to navigate. No such headache is more prominent than in New Atlantis, previously confirmed to be the biggest city Bethesda Game Studios has ever made. But if you're getting lost venturing New Atlantis, there's a mod that finally adds a map into the city. Spotted by PCGamer, modder JustOkayGamer has created a mod that adds a map of New Atlantis inside the city. The maps replace the billboard advertisement stands found across the city. As you can see in the image below, the map's inclusion is akin to seeing one of those directories you approach at the mall when you need to find something. It's...
Fortnite players can now apply for a refund for unwanted in-game purchases made between January 2017 to September 2022, thanks to a $245 million dollar settlement between the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Epic Games. In December 2022 the FTC reached what it described as two “record breaking” settlements with Fortnite creator Epic Games, after it was alleged that the company had broken privacy protection rules and employed “dark patterns” to trick players into unwanted in-game purchases. The cumulative settlement amounted to a staggering $520 million dollars. Now, the FTC is inviting Epic Games customers who believe they might have fallen foul of the shady business practices to claim a refund for their unwanted digital...
Star Citizen’s long-running development has inched forward yet again, this time to the Alpha 3.20 stage. The latest update, dubbed “Fully Loaded”, overhauls the Arena Commander mode, adds new PvP modes, maps, and racetracks, and adds new missions and ships to the Persistent Universe portion of the space sim. This is the largest update to Arena Commander since its introduction in 2014, developer Cloud Imperium Games said, and delivers “more focused, bite-sized gameplay with diverse content for racers, fighters, and competitors climbing the leaderboards”. The update also adds the MISC Hull C ship, the “titan of the cargo hauling profession with room for a crew of up to four players”, and the Fury LX, a racing variant of the recently...
Netflix has released its first trailer for its animated adaptation of Capcom’s Onimusha video game franchise, which is due to premiere on November 2 later this year. The action-packed three-minute trailer shows protagonist Miyamoto Musashi don the series’ iconic Oni Gauntlet, and go toe to toe with a varied cast of foes, both demonic and human alike, as the series’ theme song ‘The Lonliest’ by artist Måneskin plays on in the background. As the trailer unfolds, Musashi is handed down a 33-day deadline in which to complete a covert mission, while a seemingly human antagonist drinking a suspiciously blood-like liquid lays out his wish to exterminate all remaining samurai in Japan. Later, a flame wreathed entity charges Musashi with...
Remember how many dildos were originally in Cyberpunk 2077? You couldn’t loot a corner in Night City without picking one up, to the point where CD Projekt Red actually had to patch a number of them out. Lootable dildos weren’t necessarily a problem on their own, but their abundance was a good example of how Cyberpunk’s grand story could occasionally clash with the cheap shock humor found around it. Phantom Liberty aims to right that dildo misalignment, and after some soul-searching, has seemingly found what kind of Cyberpunk story it wants to tell, and nails it. Balancing the punk-rock verve of Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG with an exquisitely crafted spy story and best-in-class visuals, Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077 at its best...
The best stealth games are the ones that let you live out your sneaky dreams, and probably save scum your way to victory. The roguelike field is overflowing with truly excellent games, so it can be hard to stand out. Well, what if you played as a frog that stood on top of a giant mech with a sword? It’s going from bad to worse for the embattled Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1. After fans critcised its visuals and $70 price tag, the official Mortal Kombat 1 Switch launch trailer has now come under fire for apparently using PC gameplay footage. A placeholder Steam achievement pop-up appears during the Mortal Kombat 1 launch trailer published to the Nintendo of America YouTube channel on release day, September 19. The pop-up appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen during gameplay of the new Invasions mode, which suggests PC footage was used to create at least this section of the Switch trailer. At the time of publication, the trailer is still live. IGN has asked publisher Warner Bros. Games for comment...
Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s next-gen version enjoyed a puzzling period of exclusivity on Xbox Series X and S back in 2020 that was never properly explained — until now. As part of this week's huge Xbox leak, emails between Xbox executives Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Damon Baker confirm this four month next-gen exclusivity period was, from Microsoft's point of view, an "added bonus". As spotted by resetera user Clippy, the email conversation begins with a question from Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who links to an IGN tweet (thanks for reading, Phil!) dated May 7, 2020, about the confirmation of Yakuza: Like a Dragon as an Xbox Series X and S launch title. “This isn’t next-gen exclusive is it?” Spencer asks. Baker, who has since left Xbox...
