Soulslike success Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will get a sequel, it's been announced, despite previous reports that the game's original development team had disbanded. Indeed, the project appears to have been greenlit at a new studio founded by Wuchang: Fallen Feathers creative director Xia Siyuan, with the aid of publisher 505 Games, which announced it had acquired the full rights to the franchise back in April. Despite a positive critical and commercial response, a follow-up to Wuchang previously appeared unlikely. Numerous reports stated that Siyuan had departed developer Leenzee, followed by various other colleagues, after studio bosses reportedly told staff to pivot away from post-launch support and onto other projects. Exactly...
There's always a foggy town that instills a certain fear, cryptic puzzles within that tense atmosphere, and an underlying trauma to ground the chilling horror. I had an inkling that Silent Hill: Townfall could nail the series' particular style of horror, and after getting three hours of hands-on time with it, I'm thrilled to say my intuition was spot on. This being in first-person definitely sparked the thought of what P.T. could have been, because my time with Townfall showed that the more intimate interaction with the environment can bring you closer to both the story it's trying to tell and the gameplay elements that give rise to such dread. I came in thinking Townfall would be just another direction the series could explore, and...
Rockstar has unexpectedly blocked in-game gambling features in GTA Online for players accessing the game from Australia. Australians are no longer able to activate gambling mini-games in GTA Online’s Diamond Casino, including blackjack, slots, poker, roulette, or the Inside Track horse racing mode. The free-to-spin lucky wheel is also disabled. These minigames were previously operating in Australia for the last seven years, since the establishment of the casino location in GTA Online in The Diamond Casino & Resort update on July 23, 2019. Other functionality and missions involving the casino remain intact and playable. The sudden block subsequently comes as a curious move in July 2026, several months after the March introduction of...
Capcom’s Q1 report for the 2026 fiscal year is out, and it’s making a lot of players uneasy. A quick look at the data shows that an overwhelming majority of Capcom's sales for Q1 2026 were digital — a whopping 93.3% of them, in fact, including both new releases and older games. That leaves only 6.7% for physical media sales, something that players can’t help but feel antsy about, given the imminent death of physical discs for PlayStation games starting January 2028. A closer look at these numbers shows that 60.4% of these digital sales were for PC, while just 32.9% were for consoles. This breakdown doesn’t come as a massive surprise, given that physical disc drives haven’t exactly been a thing on PCs for the last decade or so, but...
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is taking over Fortnite as part of a brand new crossover. Epic Games has revealed a Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossover with Fortnite, which will also bring back the beloved web shooters. For those who have never used them, players can find Spidey's web shooters as an equippable item and use them to swing around the map. It's actually a really great way to flank enemy players, as they can fling you pretty fast, making it hard for players to keep track of you. Additionally, Fortnite's Item Shop will be adding Spidey's Brand New Day suit (complete with a removable mask so you can see Tom Holland's face), a Hulk skin, and a skin of Jon Bernthal's Punisher. Will there be a skin for Sadie Sink's character, heavily...
Halo: Combat Evolved sits in a pantheon alongside some of the best games ever made, so it wasn’t surprising that Microsoft would release a second remake of it eventually. However, instead of using a bespoke, in-house engine, this time around Halo Studios opted for Unreal 5,. And while that’s awesome for anyone with a high-end machine, it does mean it struggles to scale to lower-end and older hardware. That doesn’t mean the game doesn’t look good though. If you have the hardware to juice up the settings a bit, Halo: Campaign Evolved looks stunning, with excellent lighting and environmental detail. But unlike a lot of games that have come out this year, like Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert, which are on much more flexible...
Double Fine, best known for creating the 2005 platform game Psychonauts, has laid off 25.6% of its staff three weeks after Xbox’s massive restructuring efforts were revealed. The studio announced the layoffs on July 28, 2026, confirming that this downsizing was a direct result of becoming an independent company after Xbox unloaded them as part of its own restructuring earlier this month. “As a small, tightly-knit team, these actions are not taken lightly,” a statement from Double Fine reads. “Only the survival of our studio would ever make us consider such a painful action. Our transition to becoming an independent company also means becoming a size that we can sustain. The people we are losing were all important. They all made an...
Call of Duty: Black Ops fans are growing frustrated by players who refuse to vote for different maps. The recent ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops have been a strong source of nostalgia for many, but some are irritated by how it has created stubbornness among players when it comes to voting for maps. In the original Black Ops games, players can choose which map they want to play on in the next match. There are always two options, and then a third option lets you pick a random map. Players have noticed that, despite the fact there are over two dozen maps in each game, they end up playing on the same small handful of maps every time. Black Ops 1 and 2 have iconic maps like Nuketown, Firing Range, Hijacked, and Raid, and because they're...
Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus monthly games lineup for August 2026 — and it includes Dying Light 2: Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, plus a bonus Marvel Tōkon pack. Available on both PS4 and PS5, Dying Light 2: Stay Human is the post-apocalyptic zombie survival sequel with top-notch parkour and an awesome open world. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wanderer with the power to change the fate of The City — and also boot zombies off the top of skyscrapers. You don't have to do it all alone, either, as there's the choice of up to four-player co-op. "No patch can fix the forgettable main plot or the protagonist I couldn’t pick out of a police lineup even after 80 hours in his shoes, but Dying Light 2’s streets tell their own stories,"...
The quick, slightly lazy, but undeniably useful elevator pitch for The Blood of Dawnwalker is this: imagine The Witcher, but you’re a vampire in the Carpathian Mountains. That premise alone is enough to make a lot of RPG fans pay attention. However, there’s far more to The Blood of Dawnwalker than that surface-level comparison. With its grim fantasy setting, reactive quest design, vampire-human duality, and serious RPG pedigree, Rebel Wolves’ debut is already looking like one of the most exciting action RPGs on the horizon. At the time of writing, The Blood of Dawnwalker has reportedly appeared on more than two million Steam wishlists. Clearly, plenty of players are already watching this one closely. A Soaring Vampire Action RPG From...
After 15 years, Resident Evil 5 is no longer the highest-selling entry in Capcom's survival horror series, the publisher has revealed. New sales figures for the Resident Evil franchise show its sales crown has now been taken by the Resident Evil 2 remake, which has now shifted 19.75 million copies — enough to slip past Resident Evil 5's final total of 19.01 million. These totals are interesting for several reasons. Firstly, the fact that Resi 5's sales have taken a decade and a half to topple says a lot about the huge excitement for that game when it initially arrived — riding on the coat tails of the beloved original Resi 4, despite ultimately being judged as nowhere near as good. Secondly, these totals show that the Resident Evil...
PlayStation 5 blockbuster Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has today been updated to add two new Spidey suits, including Tom Holland's new costume from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In celebration of this week's new Spider-Man film, the web-slinging PS5 sequel has been patched to v1.005.000, which adds two new Spidey designs, plus support for Enhanced PSSR on PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as Power Saver mode. Sony first announced the PS5 Power Saver mode for certain games last year. When manually enabled, supported PS5 games will scale back performance and will allow your console to reduce its power consumption — a neat way to save on your energy bills and (slightly) cut down on your home's impact on the environment. The Brand New Day suit is...
At the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Berlin on Sunday, Final Fantasy 14 director-producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida invited Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi to the stage for a chat. Over this 75-minute Naoki’s Room section, the two Final Fantasy devs discussed their motivations, upcoming FF7/FF14 crossover content, and the future of the series. However, one comment may have quashed fans’ hopes for Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 8, or Final Fantasy 9 ever getting the remake treatment. The talk of remaking other FF games came up when Hamaguchi named Final Fantasy 6 as a big influence on his life. “Final Fantasy 6 is the reason I wanted to work in the game industry and it will always have a special place in my...
Call of Duty: Black Ops fans have uncovered a new cut Zombies mode from the game, over a decade and a half after its original release. YouTuber JTAG uncovered a tower defense Zombies mode in the recent PS4 port of Black Ops 1 and uploaded gameplay of it. It's clearly unfinished, so the mode is a bit crude, but players would've been able to place down turrets to stop hordes of the undead from advancing through a maze-like map. It seems as though the player would've been able to look down at the action from a bird's-eye view, not unlike Bloons Tower Defense, but they also would've been able to get on the ground and shoot enemies just like regular Call of Duty. It's possible this was scrapped in favor of Dead Ops Arcade, a hidden Zombies...

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is coming off a record-breaking open beta weekend, where two particular characters reigned supreme over the rest of the game’s cast. Despite some glaring issues that plagued PC users, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls still had a massively successful open beta, raking in more players on Steam than any other fighting game’s open beta before it. Specifically, Marvel Tokon attracted 33,233 players at its all-time peak, just under 500 more than Street Fighter 6’s famously packed beta back in 2023. For reference, that number was 32,787, while, for comparison’s sake, Tekken 8’s open beta garnered 15,035 players later that same year. Of those players, a significant portion of them chose two characters more than any...
Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy 14 will land on Switch 2 with an almighty thud next month, as its honking install size will take up almost half of the console's 256GB memory. Final Fantasy 14 will weigh in at 117.2GB when it launches for Switch 2 on August 4, an eShop listing for the title has now revealed. Here's hoping you have space for it — or the budget to buy a new SD card. That's around double the game's install size on PlayStation 5, which benefits from some clever file compression technology, though similar to the game's memory footprint on PC. It's a hefty download, though perhaps to be expected when you consider the MMO's size and the amount of content that has been added over the years. The upside to all this is that the...
Marvel Comics and video games have had a long, storied, and oftentimes turbulent relationship. Spanning a variety of genres, Marvel games have taken us to many different places, from the thrilling open worlds of Insomniac’s Spider-Man series to the terrible beige-tinged shooting galleries of Punisher No Mercy. But there’s one genre in which Marvel Comics has seen undeniable success: fighting games. Marvel has been in the business of kicking ass in 2D arenas for over three decades, and in that time we’ve seen many twists, turns, smash hits, and fumbles. So buckle up, true believers, as we take you for a ride through the evolution of Marvel fighting games. X-Men: Children of the Atom (1994) The early ‘90s were not a great time for...
Stalker 2 not only has a release date for its first major story expansion, but its huge free 2.0 update. Ukraine developer GSC Game World announced that Stalker 2: Cost of Hope is set for PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5 on August 20, 2026. Here’s the official blurb: In Cost of Hope, players once again step into the role of Stalker 2 protagonist Skif — as a mysterious PDA signal draws him into events unfolding alongside the main game’s story. GSC Game World has said to expect dozens of hours of content. The 2.0 update, meanwhile, upgrades the game to a new version of Unreal Engine 5 (from 5.1 to 5.5.4). This brings new content and improvements, GSC Game World promised. Admittedly, that’s not a lot to go on, but the...
If you’re having trouble with logging into Xbox, you’re not alone: it’s suffering a major outage that’s affecting account and profile sign-in, viewing games on the store, and playing games. In a post on social media, Microsoft acknowledged the issue, which began earlier today, July 27, and said its teams were working on it. “Just checking in on the game library, sign-in, and game launch issue,” reads a tweet issued just before 1pm UK time. “We know this has been going on a while and appreciate your patience while our teams keep working on it.” Microsoft will want to sort this outage out sooner rather than later, with Halo: Campaign Evolved set to launch proper on July 28 after three days of early access for Premium Edition owners...
Backers of physical media have called on gamers to boycott PlayStation for a week in August to send a message to Sony that its decision to kill discs from 2028 is unacceptable. The Does it play? X / Twitter account, which is a fierce critic of Sony’s plan to do away with PlayStation game discs, issued a call to arms that has been viewed on the social media platform nearly 1 million times. “Sony wants to abandon fans? Let's give them a small taste of their own medicine!” the Twitter account said. “Together with other creators we call for a 1 week #PSBlackout in August. No logins, no play sessions, no purchases on any of Sony's platforms.” Sony’s rationale for ditching discs is that it’s simply following consumer trends. “In response...
Baldur’s Gate 3 might be three years old, but it’s still the subject of much debate — and many new mods. One mod in particular has gone viral, leading some fans to say developer Larian should keep it in mind for its future games. Others, though, believe using it to play Baldur’s Gate 3 essentially amounts to heresy. The mod in question is Relysia’s True Third-Person Camera, which was released on Nexus Mods earlier this month. It features a modern, over-the-shoulder third-person camera view where the camera stays closely attached to your character. There is a dynamic FOV when running, and smooth crouch transitions. In this over-the-shoulder mode, the camera stays at a fixed distance to retain a close perspective. During gameplay...
The five modern mainline GTA games (and by that, we mean from Grand Theft Auto 3 onwards) contain 346 story missions. 346 opportunities for blockbuster moments, unforgettable sandbox spectacles, career-making crimes, and the occasional excruciating nightmare. But among the missed trains, RC planes, and yoga sessions are some of the most memorable gaming experiences ever crafted, courtesy of developer Rockstar Games. These are the missions that propel us to that next letter on the minimap, the ones that start with a goofy cutscene and end with an orchestra of explosions and emotions. These are the greatest Grand Theft Auto missions. 11. “Give Me Liberty” - GTA 3 The first moments of Grand Theft Auto 3 are among the most impactful in...

On Saturday, San Diego Comic-Con held a celebration for Star Trek in Hall H as the iconic sci-fi series — and the franchise it begat — turns 60 this year. A large panel did a commendable job representing many Star Trek series across many eras, including Michael Dorn (The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Picard), Robert Picardo (Voyager, Prodigy, Starfleet Academy), Dominic Keeting (Enterprise), Cirroc Lofton (Deep Space Nine), Doug Jones (Discovery), Michelle Hurd (Picard), Jerry O'Connell (Lower Decks), Christina Chong (Strange New Worlds), and Karim Diané (Starfleet Academy). And last but certainly not least was the legendary George Takei, representing the original Star Trek series. It's a bit of an odd time for the Star Trek, with...
Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser believes that, if players want their games released on physical media, then "companies should provide it." The former Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer opened up about the state of physical media in the gaming space during a conversation with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026. He didn't have a strong opinion when asked if he personally cares about physical versus digital releases, but when it comes to others, his thoughts were pretty cut and dry. "I don't know that I care, but if people want that, I think companies should provide it," Houser said. "But I don't know that I personally care. "I also think that, as critical as people are of digital releases, the ability to...

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has acknowledged the "open world fatigue" affecting the industry but says Square Enix was "very careful" to make sure fans would have "all the guidance they need" in the new remake chapter – even if it's bigger than the last. The developer helping lead the finale to its 2027 launch spoke about its size during a conversation with Eurogamer. In the interview, he teased how the team has done its best to tie a bow on the trilogy with one final adventure for Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and the rest of the gang in their fight against Sephiroth. The two previous installments in the remake trilogy – Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth – have been lumped into online conversations about enormous open...
Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy 14 has a Nintendo Switch 2 release date of August 4, 2026. Game director Naoki Yoshida (a.k.a. Yoshi-P) suited up in Bastion armor and took the stage at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin to confirm the news alongside a laundry list of new updates coming in the near future. While Square Enix had previously confirmed plans to bring FFXIV to Switch 2 in August, today's news locks in a launch that's only a little more than one week away. Preorders begin later today, with fans told to keep an eye on Square Enix social media for updates. When FFXIV goes on sale August 4, its first month of sale will be free of subscription charges as the developers ensure server stability. After this period...
