Gaming News

Everyone can post news here. The news posted here could be anything from gaming to world news. This section will be monitored fairly heavily.
Word is there's quite a lot of influenza going on out there, which means some of you might be grateful for some cheap indoor diversions. Gaming may not be the cure for common pestilence, but the discounts I've arrayed before you will feel like the prescription for stupidly-priced fun and adventure. Case in point: those many-multi-hour (yet highly reduced) Final Fantasies... In retro news, I've made a big cake with a 25 on it for Ape Escape, the first game to explicitly require a DualShock controller. In these modern times where the dpad is a vestigial limb, it's difficult to explain just how exciting it was to transition from that clunky cross to twin analog sticks. Cameras could be controlled like we were Spielberg. Platforming...

Capcom added that if enough people work together and complete the bonus unlock compaign between...
With rumors flying that Resident Evil 9 is on the verge of being revealed, Capcom has confirmed that the next entry in the storied survival horror franchise is now in development. Development will be led by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi, who confirmed the new sequel in the course of talking about the previous game's mobile release. "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi said. "But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Nakanishi has a long history with Resident Evil. In addition to Resident Evil 7, which helped revitalize the series in 2017, Nakanishi directed Resident...
After unexpectedly teasing the game last week, Capcom has shared new details on Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, confirming among other things that it will release on September 18, 2024. Saying "it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call this game a remake," developer Rysosuke Murai said the new release will run in 4K 60fps on the RE Engine, and will include quality-of-life improvements like the ability to move while aiming, as well as improvements to NPC behavior. Capcom has also "fine-tuned the interface" and added autosave functionality, and the story will be fully-voiced in nine languages. In addition to the standard edition, Capcom is planning to release a digital deluxe edition that will include additional costumes and mall...
The Elden Ring community's favorite folk hero, Let Me Solo Her, has finally completed the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, after a streaming marathon spanning multiple days during which he struggled repeatedly against the DLC's final boss. Warning: Spoilers for the ending of Shadow of the Erdtree follow below! Tsuboi Klein, also known as Let Me Solo Her, has been steadily working his way through the new Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree with the rest of us. Just yesterday, he finally crossed the finish line, defeating Promised Consort Radahn live on stream after something in the vicinity of 74 attempts. Despite being thought of as something of an Elden Ring expert, Let Me Solo Her really struggled with the second coming of Radahn...
Scientists, the original nerd, occasionally like to remind us of that fact by influencing the real world with a geeky reference, this time with a spider name after a flying beastie from Monster Hunter. As reported by VG247, a newly discovered spider from China has been named the Otacilia Khezu after Khezu, the flying wyvern from Monster Hunter. What do spiders and flying wyverns have in common? Nothing, really, but this spider has no eyes, just like its namesake. Khezu, which look like fairly normal wyverns from the shoulders down but quickly break that tradition with incredibly long necks, a giant fanged mouth, and retracted eyes due to spending most of their time in darkness, were introduced way back in the original Monster Hunter...
Elden Ring challenge streamer DrDeComposing has forced Shadow of the Erdtree’s final boss to sit down and face the music by defeating the monstrous enemy while using the doots from an electric saxophone to control his Tarnished warrior. Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware certainly didn’t pull any punches when setting the difficulty of Elden Ring’s first and only piece of DLC. The time following Shadow of the Erdtree’s June 21 launch has seen countless players struggle with the extreme challenge posed by the new content. Their plight has triggerest the creation of a slew of mods designed to make the DLC easier, along with the release of an official update that rebalanced the DLC's difficulty scaling system. Warning: mild spoilers for...
Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida has apologized for the issues present in Dawntrail, the latest expansion currently available in early access. In a blog post, Yoshida apoligized to fans who preordered the game and thus unlocked the early access version, and explained what has caused certain issues and how the development team at Square Enix plans to address them. He also suggested a hotfix would arrive sometime "this week" alongside a brief server maintenance period. "Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has been playing Dawntrail since the start of early access," Yoshida said. "However, I would like to offer my sincere apologies regarding the issues that we have identified." Xbox version issues have perhaps been most...
Dino Crisis is now 25 years old, with the first game in the series launching on PlayStation on July 1, 1999. Capcom’s much-loved dinosaur survival horror game has seen three games so far, the first of which remains the best-selling with 2.4 million sold. Dino Crisis 2, which followed a year later in 2000, sold 1.2 million copies. Dino Crisis 3 launched as an original Xbox exclusive in 2003 and fans have yet to see a new game since. Despite the occasional groundswell of opinion that Dino Crisis should return from hardcore fans, Capcom seems uninterested in reviving the franchise. Indeed Capcom's 2022 announcement of Exoprimal, a multiplayer-focused action game featuring dinosaurs, was seen as the final nail in the coffin for Dino...
Spoiler Warning: This article contains some spoilers for the ending of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt alongside a handful of minor spoilers from The Witcher book series. A Witcher 3 modder has discovered and restored a huge chunk of gameplay cut from the beloved role-playing game's ending by developer CD Projekt. This extended ending, outlined by YouTuber xLetalis and modded by glassfish777, begins after protagonist Geralt's fight with Witcher 3's main antagonist, Eredin of The Wild Hunt. Geralt is pulled away from this fight after his victory by potential partner and powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg in the actual game, but in the cut content instead wakes up in a tent, being seen to by two doctors. A restored cutscene here shows...
Call of Duty dataminers are doing their thing yet again, this time unearthing what looks like evidence of an unannounced Deadpool & Wolverine crossover coming to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. Dataminers have a long history of discovering files that reveal unannounced content for Activision’s first-person shooter behemoth. The recent Fallout, Gundam, and Warhammer 40,000 crossovers were all datamined ahead of release. There’s even evidence to suggest a The Crow crossover is coming to Call of Duty to coincide with the upcoming The Crow movie reboot starring Bill Skarsgard. Now, dataminer ‘crashfty‘ has shared brief video clips showing what looks like finishing moves inspired by Ryan Reynolds’ depiction of Deadpool. We see a soldier...
Elden Ring’s immensely popular Seamless Co-op mod is back in a usable state for both the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, having been significantly re-written to account for changes made to the 2022 hit RPG by the new content. "While not perfect, it has reached a state where it can be used to play Elden Ring and the DLC in co-op,” said Dalvik, a moderator for the unofficial addon's dedicated Discord server, while speaking on behalf of the mod’s creator Luke Yui earlier this week, as spotted by PC Gamer. As its name suggests, the Seamless Co-op mod dramatically overhauls Elden Ring’s objective-based co-op experience, allowing players to experience the base game — and now the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC — from beginning to...
Space Marine 2 Dev Cancels Open Beta, Hands Out Bolt Pistol Skin as an Apology
The Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 open beta is canceled so the development team can focus on getting the game ready for launch. Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment announced the change of plan in a post on the Space Marine 2 Steam page, and offered a limited Bolt Pistol skin to those who’d registered as an apology gift. "We know this is disappointing news for some of you. “Over the past few weeks, we have seen incredible excitement around the game, both online and at the shows during the North American tour,” Saber said. “Our teams at Focus and Saber have been truly blown away by your passion, and we’ve loved seeing the fan art, reactions and memes that you have shared so far. “Space Marine 2 is almost...
Hot on the heels of the release of DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, George R. R. Martin has teased an Elden Ring movie or TV show. In a post on his blog, the Game of Thrones author wrote about winning awards, and in doing so strongly suggested an adaptation of FromSoftware’s masterpiece is indeed in the works. “Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say,” he said. “Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?” I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. As George R. R. Martin stated in the blog post, the famed fantasy author “did the worldbuilding” for Elden Ring, whereas...
We're one week shy of a school holiday period, so it's time to get ready. Yep, that means shaking some trees to find the most nutso game bargains, then squirreling them away to be devoured at your leisure later—possibly sans pants and pizza equipped. I've found a bunch of slightly older things inching from 75 to 95% off. If you prefer to stay ultra-modern, I also have the hottest deals on the latest stuff too! In retro news, I'm celebrating the 37th birthday of a true great, Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I vividly recall being blown away by my first life-for-life playthrough of this at a mate's place. Every stage we conquered in the "back 4" worlds of this save-less odyssey felt like a murder gauntlet...

The Legacy of Kain series maintains a rabid fan following, even though it's been a long time since there's been a new game. More than two decades, in fact. But there's a new ray of light on the Nosgoth horizon in the form of a graphic novel called Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise. As the first new Legacy of Kain content since 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance, The Dead Shall Rise serves as a prequel to the Soul Reaver games. The book flashes back to Raziel's human past as a Sarafan warrior and reveals how he came to be a vampire serving under Kain. The goal is to answer some long-running questions about the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver mythos while also introducing a major new vampire character with close ties to both...

The Moza R12 Racing Experience, Hands On Impressions, and Less Than a Motza Prices
Right off the starter grid, I must admit I was sceptical during the unboxing process of this Moza racing setup. You see, I was first drawn to the R12 Wheel Base, the CRP Pedals, and the GS V2P GT Wheel for three reasons—Moza's sterling reputation, the fact that it was a GT3/F1 configuration not offered by my current wheel, and because I’m a fiend for greater force feedback. The latter didn’t seem probable here, despite Moza's superior FF numbers. I’m very much a simmer who feels the need to feel the speed. My current workhorse, a Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel, is no slouch in the FF department with its not-unimpressive 11Nm of torque. That said, the R12’s direct drive servo system goes harder at 12Nm. The Spinal Tap leap from eleven to...
The weekend has officially kicked off, and we've rounded up some of the best deals you can find this weekend. Whether you're searching for a new gaming headset or a new game to pick up on sale, there are plenty of options this weekend. The best deals for Saturday, June 29, include the HyperX CloudX Headset, Street Fighter 6, Danganronpa Decadence, and more. HyperX CloudX Headset for $29.99 The CloudX is officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, so you can play worry-free knowing you're getting a reliable headset. HyperX prioritized sound with this headset, with enhanced bass reproduction and clear highs, lows, and mids for all-around immersion. It's worth noting that the CloudX can be used on PC, but you'll need a splitter...
In April 1908, Newcastle upon Tyne man Gladstone Adams was driving his Darracq-Charron motorcar back from the FA Cup final between Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Newcastle had lost and, to make matters worse, Adams’ journey home was being delayed by snow. That is, it kept covering his windscreen and he had to repeatedly stop and get out of the car to clear it. Some kind of innovation was needed. There had to be something that would help people see where they were going. As it turned out, there was; a few years later Adams invented his own windscreen wiper. He patented the design and became one of several people from around the beginning of the 1900s credited with conceiving of similar devices, although his version of...
Back in the day, SNK was one of gaming’s biggest names. King of Fighters and Fatal Fury were hugely popular beat-’em-ups in the 1980s and ’90s, while Metal Slug helped define the side-scrolling action game genre, and the company’s high-spec console, handheld and arcade hardware were the envy of many. After two tumultuous decades in the 2000s, SNK received investment from Saudi Arabia’s Electronic Gaming Development Company in 2020 and was fully acquired in 2022. The investment has come under scrutiny due to Saudi Arabia’s human rights record, which includes allegations of unfair treatment of women and the LGBTQ community. In the aftermath of the acquisition, an SNK lead insisted that the studio's new ownership "doesn't affect us in...
If Alice: Madness Returns was dead on arrival, that would at least be aesthetically consistent. The 2011 sequel to American McGee's Alice went even deeper into Alice in Wonderland's red guts than the first game, pulling out the most nightmarish aspects of the Victorian children's story and tying their shadows into a neat action-adventure. But it suffered from abysmal launch sales, with reviewers and fans both being disappointed by what they felt were rough controls and level design. Still, game designer American McGee wasn't giving up. McGee, who created the series after being fired by id Software, hoped to gather enough community support for a follow-up, and the most diehard Alice believers gave it to him in spades. But after a...
At this point, I’ve now played The First Descendant in three or four different beta iterations, and each time I’ve felt no more or less certain whether this would be something my friends and I would want to play, or just another sci-fi shooter in a sea of similar games vying for our attention. After more than 45 hours sunk into a pre-launch preview build over the past week, I’m only slightly closer to answering that question – but I’m certainly not having a bad time. I’ve got a whole lot left to play, including the all-important endgame, for instance, so as of now I’m still not sure if The First Descendant will be my next looter-shooter fixation, or yet another one that misses the mark. Nexon’s free-to-play third-person multiplayer...
Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red recently discussed the future of the RPG series and where it still has room to grow in its upcoming sequel, codenamed Project Orion. One hope the studio has for its upcoming sequel is to do a better job of pushing the envelope in its commentary on social issues. During a recent episode of CDProject Red's AnswerRed Podcast, associate game director Paweł Sasko underscored how, despite the game's nature of not hand-feeding players answers to prevailing social issues, Cyberpunk 2077 didn't go far enough in its social commentary. "I see that we didn't push the envelope far enough in some places, for instance," Sasko said. "Like, let's say, the homeless crisis. When I look at it, I'm like, 'We...
Eight years ago, Japanese director Katsura Hashino announced that he was forming a new team within Atlus after more than a decade spent working on the Persona series (and Catherine), saying he wanted to try something new. Last summer, his game was finally revealed – Metaphor: ReFantazio, an RPG that features plenty of similarities to the Persona games, but has a personality all its own. In broad strokes, Metaphor retains many familiar elements from Hashino’s previous games. Like its spiritual predecessors, Metaphor utilizes a turn-based command system built around exploiting the weaknesses of enemies. The main character, an outcast who uses forbidden magic, looks a great deal like the hero of Persona 3 Reload thanks in no small part...
A few days ago, Capcom and GOG surprised fans by announcing they would be re-releasing the original Resident Evil trilogy on PC. Along with providing easier access to the original trilogy, DRM-free, GOG has also revealed that the original version of Resident Evil 2 is based on the 1998 Windows PC version. The news was first reported by YouTuber The Sphere Hunter, who revealed she had the chance to play the first two games in advance — revealing that Resident Evil 2 classic was based on the original Windows PC version, not the Sourcenext version. A GOG spokesperson also confirmed this detail to IGN in a statement sent via email. If you're unfamiliar with these two ports, the former was released in 1998 for Windows 98, while the...
Three months after the initial announcement, AMD has finally released the latest iteration of its FidleityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling and frame generation tech. In a new blog post, AMD revealed that FSR 3.1 and the first few games that support it are now available. Currently, five games are first-party PlayStation games ported by Nixxes Software, and the studio revealed in a post on X/Twitter that it was working closely with AMD to incorporate the new tech into its games. Of course, the list will likely grow now that the latest tech is available. AMD and Nixxes' collaboration is no surprise. Beyond the obvious track record Nixxes has with specializing in porting console games onto PC, the first five games announced already...
Hideo Kojima left Konami and the Metal Gear series he created nine years ago, but for the person now producing the franchise it would be a “dream” to have the legendary developer back in the fold. As reported by VGC, Konami’s Metal Gear series producer Noriaki Okamura said on a recent livestream published to YouTube that, personally speaking, he’d love to work with Kojima again on Metal Gear. “But just speaking for myself, personally, I’d like nothing better than to work with Mr. Kojima and the rest of the team again,” Okamura said. "If that could happen, that would be the dream. “But people have moved on to new things and new commitments, and that’s just our current reality. We can’t just take it for granted that everyone would...
