Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has assured fans that he is "not going to abandon Haunted Chocolatier," saying: "it's taking a while to finish the game," and "that's okay." In a new blog posted to the official Haunted Chocolatier website, Barone dispelled a number of myths and rumors that have popped up about him and his work on the upcoming game, admitting: "I know, I know, I shouldn't have announced the game so early. But I had my reasons." He added that Haunted Chocolatier will release "when it's done." Responding to reports that the game will be abandoned entirely and possibly folded into Stardew Valley, Barone shut that down completely, writing: "No. First, I am not going to abandon Haunted Chocolatier. But even...
One of the showrunners of the Fallout TV series has discussed the fate of Mr. House as we approach the Season 2 finale, and explained how the show has still managed to avoid making a New Vegas ending canon. Warning! Spoilers for Fallout Season 2 follow: Last month, the creators of the Fallout TV show told IGN that Season 2 avoids making any New Vegas ending canon by taking what they call "the fog of war approach." Fans of the Fallout video games had wondered how Season 2 might reflect the various endings of Obsidian’s much-loved Fallout New Vegas, given the show is canon and is set 15 years after the game. A quick reminder of where we’re at in the Fallout timeline: the Fallout TV show is set in 2296, nine years after the events of...
Ubisoft has finally acknowledged the never-ending deluge of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake leaks, after yet another slip-up. Earlier this week, a collectible statue featuring the game's hero Edward Kenway bizarrely popped up for sale on used clothing app Vinted. The item appeared to be the under-wraps tie-in teased last year by merchandise maker Pure Arts — and now, Ubisoft has effectively confirmed that this is the case. Writing on Twitter / X, Ubisoft used its official Assassin's Creed account to respond to the original post that shared photos of said statue, replying with the classic GTA San Andreas meme showing that game's protagonist Carl Johnson wearily stating: "Ah s***, here we go again." The statue's appearance online...
If you have a Nintendo Switch 2 and are looking to shake up your library with a little something new to play this year, why not take this time to journey to a galaxy far, far away? The Gold Edition of Star Wars Outlaws for Switch 2 has dropped to $30 at Amazon (a return to its lowest price so far, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel). This is a 50% drop from its usual price of $59.99, so no better time to swoop in and grab it. Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition for Switch 2 Down to $30 This Gold Edition will keep you plenty busy over the months to come, too. Alongside the base game, you'll also be set up with the season pass, which includes the Wild Card story pack and A Pirate's Fortune story pack, Jabba's Gambit exclusive...
I am less interested in how big the discount looks and more interested in whether a game earns the hours it asks for. This list is about friction, not hype, and the quiet relief of buying something that does not immediately slide into the backlog. I have played enough of these to know where the fun sticks and where the regret usually starts. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm placing 33 heart-hiding candles on a birthday cake baked for Super Castlevania IV. A bit of an oddity, SCIV technically recycles the original NES adventure's plight of Simon Belmont as he "Devos" problems that come along in Drac's castle. However, said whip was instead being (8-way) cracked into entirely...
The nostalgia-packed The Disney Afternoon Collection finally has a Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 release date, and it’s bringing two more games for patient fans. A Switch version of the bundle of ‘90s Disney video games was announced today after first launching for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One back in 2017. Retro remaster developer Digital Eclipse has the original collection – which includes DuckTales, DuckTales 2, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, Darkwing Duck, and TaleSpin – set with a digital Switch release date of February 26, 2026, with Goof Troop and Bonkers packed in, too. Both are Capcom games that made their way to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the ‘90s, and both will only...
Elden Ring: Nightreign is getting a tabletop RPG adaptation from Group SNE, the same team behind the tabletop RPG versions of Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6. This news was first spotted by Polygon having been shared by Kadokawa's official Fujimi Dragon Book Editorial account on Twitter/X. According to the post, it's set to be published soon, in spring of 2026. There aren't any further details as to what this campaign will entail, but as a Nightreign lover, I don't find it too hard to imagine. Nightreign already has a wonderfully clear-cut class system, and the potential for different DMs to shuffle abilities, monsters, bosses, hazards, events, points of interest is extremely strong. Like the game itself, such a campaign...
Dispatch, the superhero workplace comedy made by Telltale veterans at AdHoc Studio, is out now on Nintendo Switch. But a number of excited new and returning players aren't super happy about the release, as it turns out the game has been pretty aggressively censored on the system. It's been well-known since its release on other platforms that Dispatch is a game with signficant adult content. Some characters are fully or partially naked in various scenes, with their full anatomy on display. There are some sex scenes where characters make sounds associated with sex. Sometimes characters flip the bird at one another. For those who don't want to see all this, there's a censorship toggle in the settings that covers up the nudity and the...
Looking for a high-capacity, high-output power bank with a slim footprint? Amazon is currently offering the Baseus Blade 20,000mAh 100W power bank for $39.99 shipped after you apply coupon code "YBKEIAQE". Unlike previous iterations of this deal, you do NOT have to be an Amazon Prime member. Unlike most high-capacity power banks that are shaped like a chunky bar, the Baseus Blade is slimmer. It's powerful enough to charge any gaming handheld PC at its fastest rate. Baseus Blade 20,000mAh 100W Slim Power Bank for $39.99 The Baseus Blade measures only 0.7 inches thick. Most high-capacity power banks are well over 1" in thickness. The Blade achieves this slim depth by going with a wider body design. The form factor allows it to fit...
Silent Hill 2, Layers of Fear and Cronos: The New Dawn developer Bloober Team is teasing a reveal of some kind that's set to take place in February. A creepy countdown website, found at remosdneulserorehsoovamceyerd.com, is currently ticking down the 17 days and various hours, minutes and seconds until Valentine's Day, February 14, when all will be revealed. Visit the website today and there's a new snippet of text — "Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait." — as well as a button you can press to hear an excerpt from some poetry. "Thou art sick... invisible flies in the night..." an intense-sounding voice reads out when the website's Play button is pressed. "Howling storm has found out thy bed of crimson joy...
Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus monthly games for February 2026, and confirmed the previously-leaked inclusion of Undisputed. Four titles will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers to claim next month, from Tuesday, February 3 until Monday, March 2. These are Undisputed, Subnautica: Below Zero, Ultros and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. This is also a great time to remind PlayStation Plus members that you still have until February 2 to add January's games to your library, which include Need for Speed Unbound, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Core Keeper. As reported earlier this week, boxing game Undisputed will be part of next month's offerings. Originally launched in October 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series...
Developer Hoothanes and publisher 4Divinity have announced The Defiant, an upcoming story-driven, cinematic, single-player World War II-set first-person shooter that sees players take part in China’s War of Resistance against Japan. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and created by "a veteran team of filmmakers and game developers," according to its publisher, The Defiant clearly aims to mix things up from the usual WWII FPS fare we've seen a hundred times now. "Missions shift fluidly between stealth infiltration, close-quarters firefights, sniping, urban espionage, code-breaking operations, vehicular combat, and sudden large-scale assaults," 4Defiant said. Check out the first trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. The...
The director of Resident Evil Requiem has said that the game's female staff members worked hard to ensure hero Leon S. Kennedy "would make anyone's heart throb." Fans have praised Leon's appearance in Requiem, which sees the rookie cop turned grizzled agent sporting stubble, wrinkles, but still a full head of floppy hair. Online, may have dubbed Leon as an "ikeoji" character — an attractive older man that is also referred to as a "hot uncle" — and it's this definition which has now been put to Requiem's director by Automaton. "We've spent quite a lot of time polishing Leon's visuals," director Koshi Nakanishi said when asked about Leon's ikeoji status. "Leon has many fans among Capcom employees, and women in particular were pretty...
RuneScape maker Jagex has insisted it will never use generative AI to make content players actually see in-game, in one of the hardest stances on AI yet seen from a video game developer. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Jagex SVP of product, James Dobrowski, said that the UK company is “open” to using genAI for development processes, such as “tooling efficiency.” But he promised Jagex will never use genAI to "drive creativity." "We've got a pretty hard line stance with the team, which is a commitment that no generative AI will ever be present in any asset that a player can touch, hear or feel,” Dobrowski said. “There will be no generative AI in the game that they experience.” That rules out the likes of AI-generated art, which...
Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders and The Finals are suffering from what the studio has described as “extensive, coordinated” Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. The attacks were said to be “ongoing” today while the studio battles to mitigate their impact on each game. Arc Raiders players have been complaining of server issues all morning, with some unable to reconnect to or abandon matches. Some affected players are hoping they will see lost loot return once the issues are fixed. “Was just rubber banding and died because it was of course in front of a shredder, and now stuck on the loading screen while trying to join a new lobby,” said one affected player. It's unfortunate timing for Arc Raiders in particular, given the DDoS...

The 250 hours I've logged in extraction shooter Arc Raiders tell you I'm hooked, but last week I read a comment on the game's subreddit that perfectly encapsulated one of its few flaws. "If the game is about getting good loot, but the good loot is actually bad, what are we doing?" When you're searching a container, a rare augment – the devices at the heart of your loadout — or epic gun reveals itself in a burst of purple, a catchy jingle, and a big boost to the value of your stash, the place where you hoard and organise your items. But actually using these weapons and augments is far less satisfying. The rarest guns in Arc Raiders should feel like a glorious reward for all that time you spent hunting blueprints, or for that risky...
Some Fallout fans believe the latest episode of Season 2 of the Amazon show confirms a New Vegas ending is canon, while others believe the showrunners have kept their word and avoided picking an ending. Warning! Spoilers for Fallout Season 2 follow: Last month, the creators of the Fallout TV show told IGN that Season 2 avoids making any New Vegas ending canon by taking what they call "the fog of war approach." Fans of the Fallout video games had wondered how Season 2 might reflect the endings of Obsidian’s much-loved Fallout New Vegas, given the show is canon and is set 15 years after the game. Terraria 1.4.5 — dubbed the Bigger and Boulder Update — is finally here, and it's welcoming in thousands of new and returning players alike. According to SteamDB, up until the new update, Terraria averaged around 20-30,000 players at any one time, with the occasional spike in interest when new content dropped over the years. 1.4.5, however, has seen one of the biggest spikes in over a decade, hitting a release day peak of almost 165,000 players on Valve's platform. This is second only to the release of Update 1.4 in May 2020, although that coincided with lockdown, of course, which gave millions of gamers around the world a little more time to play. The true number of players will be even higher, given Terraria is also available on...
A number of high-profile video game developers have defended Highguard amid an online backlash during the game’s launch. The free-to-play “PvP raid shooter” was the big new game reveal at the end of last month’s The Game Awards, but developer Wildlight then went dark until the January 26 release date in a bid to channel the successful shadowdrop of Apex Legends back in 2019. At launch, Highguard hit a peak of 97,249 concurrent users on Steam — a significant number for any new game launch on Valve’s platform — but at the same time Wildlight has had to contend with a “mostly negative” user review rating. Meanwhile, Steam concurrents have fallen, and Highguard has slipped out of the top 100 most-played games list on Valve's platform...
Capcom has dropped another Monster Hunter Wilds patch that aims to improve optimization for "Steam-specific processes" and address the game's long-standing PC issues. "After receiving user reports, our internal testing confirmed that CPU load could increase around the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand Hub," the developer wrote in the patch notes, below. "This is due to claimed content status check processes to notify the player if there is unclaimed content in the Support Desk, as indicated by an exclamation point (!)." The notes go on to confirm that this issue — which causes frames to drop only in the Base Camp and Grand Hub, depending upon if you have any "unclaimed content" — is "an unintended bug and will be resolved with...
A collectible statue apparently due for release alongside the unannounced Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake has popped up online. Ubisoft is yet to make its Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake official, but the game's arrival has long been expected following a constant series of leaks. Now, fans have seemingly gotten a first look at merchandise for the game, in the shape of a new statue designed by collectible maker Pure Arts. The lavish design features Black Flag hero Edward Kenway sat on a treasure chest that's spilling gold coins, leaning back against his ship's wheel, a cutlass and pistol in each hand. The statue is then topped off by a large billowing flag featuring the game's logo: the Assassin's Creed sigil with a skull in...
I have a pretty simple rule with sales now. If a discount does not meaningfully change how much I would enjoy a game, it does not matter. What you want is the moment where price and quality finally meet in the middle and quietly agree to stop wasting your time. That is what this list is built around. Games that were already good, now cheap enough to recommend without qualifiers. Get some. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC PC Gear LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 26th bday of Gran Turismo 2, two PS One discs that I played the absolute scratch 'n' sniff off of. The release of GTA 6 may still be a long way off, but indie filmmaker Todd Wiseman Jr. has made an ambitious new short film, titled Six Stars, that essentially brings Grand Theft Auto into live-action. The short film is available on YouTube and can also be watched via the embed below. Wiseman Jr. (The School Duel) wrote and directed Six Stars and also produced it with Christa Boarin. Trevor Gureckis (M. Night Shyamalan's Old) composed the score. The short film stars Anatomy of a Fall’s Milo Machado-Graner as a French teenage gamer who, according to the logline provided to IGN, “goes on an ‘American rampage’, spiraling through a world that can’t look away... where violence is packaged, shared, and applauded.“ Watch the entire...
Reigns: The Witcher has been announced by indie publisher Devolver Digital, in collaboration with CD Projekt Red. This card-based take on The Witcher features the familiar Reigns gameplay formula where players draw random opportunities and encounters then swipe left or right to choose what to do next (yes, exactly like a dating app). Today's reveal trailer features plenty of familiar faces from The Witcher franchise who will be familiar to fans of CD Projekt's existing trilogy of RPG titles, including Yennefer, Triss, Vesemir, Dandelion, The Bloody Baron, Roach and... Maisy the Cow? We're less sure about that last one. Here, Geralt's quests are retold as plays by Dandelion, who holds the hero's fate in his hands. Whether sticking to...
Take a deep dive into the Orks faction in the latest trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, the upcoming real-time strategy game sequel from King Art Games that's due out later in 2026 for PC. It's a mixture of cinematics and gameplay. Check it out above. And if you know anything about this universe, you probably won't be surprised that the Orks are literally driven by mayhem and sporting a reckless, no-nonsense offensive playstyle. What you may not have been expecting is the scale of the carnage. In particular, we get a great look at the Ork superunit, the Gorkanaut, which can crumple up dreadnoughts and go toe-to-toe with the likes of an Imperial Knight. Towering over the battlefield at a scale that sets Dawn of War apart from...

A UK court has ruled that the unauthorized stealing of in-game currency can be legally classified as criminal theft. Former Jagex developer Andrew Lakeman was charged with allegedly stealing 705 billion Gold from almost 70 RuneScape players, with a real-world value of over half a million pounds, equivalent to around $750,000. He then sold this currency online for Bitcoin. Although Lakeman had no access to player accounts in his position at Jagex as a content developer, he allegedly accessed them by "hacking and/or using credentials of members of the account recovery team." In all, 68 players allegedly lost gold to Lakeman, starting around 2018. Here comes the science bit: the defendant's defence claimed that the in-game currency...
The developer of Highguard has confirmed streamer Dr Disrespect did not attend a preview event after he created a fake badge and pretended to have been invited to play the game early. On January 24, Dr Disrespect (real name Guy Beahm), tweeted to say: “Last week we took the Lambo to LA to check out #Highguard. Monday, January 26th at 10am PST, we enter another dimension! Yayayaya.” That comment, which pointed to Highguard’s confirmed release date, came alongside an image of a supposed Highguard event badge, which some have speculated may have been generated by AI. Following Highguard’s launch, questions were raised about the validity of Dr Disrespect’s post. Then, Wildlight Entertainment creator manager Chin Pua took to X / Twitter...
