As fans continue to suggest potential subtitles for The Elder Scrolls 6 based on the number of asterisks in Xbox boss Asha Sharma’s tweet, a theory that Bethesda hid the actual name in Starfield years ago has emerged — and it’s pretty compelling. As we reported yesterday, The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel has emerged as the frontrunner for the title of the game. But it turns out that Bethesda might have teased Sentinel in the Starfield character creation screen back in 2023. As various members of the community have pointed out, the character ID number in the Starfield character creation screen spells out Sentinel perfectly if you divide the numbers into pairs and use the numbers as the letters of the alphabet. “This title was at our...
The official Old School Runescape X account has responded after a player managed to get their Fishing skill up to level 99 catching only shrimp and anchovies. Fishing is an integral part of the Old School Runescape experience. There are several different tools players can use to catch fish or other marine critters, such as various types of fishing rods, harpoons, lobster traps, and much more. One of the first tools players get in the game is a small fishing net, which, you guessed it, can only be used to catch small prey like shrimp, minnows, monkfish and anchovies. It can’t catch anything larger than these species, and it can only be used at certain fishing spots throughout the world (not counting swamp lizards and salamanders when...
Now that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is officially out in the wild, dataminers have wasted no time digging through the game’s files, and they’ve found some interesting heroes mentioned within them. Marvel’s latest fighting game has had quite a week. After stuttering issues plagued the PC version upon launch, Arc System Works was quick to implement a fix, turning the tide of public opinion from dismal to delighted. Many blamed these PC problems on Arc System Works’ anti-datamining measures, which seem to have paid off; one reputable source claimed they couldn’t find much, crediting the developer for their efforts in ‘cleaning up’ the game’s data. In other comments, they said they haven’t come across anything new regarding upcoming...
When I first saw the Steam Machine at Valve's office back in October 2025, the company told me that it'd release the files to 3D print new faceplates for the mini gaming PC. And while there have been plenty of 3D-printed faceplates out there, a stonemason has cut a Steam Machine faceplate from the same marble Michelangelo used. I spotted these faceplates on Reddit, where user /u/GinoWT showed off three faceplates they made from different stones. The first of these was Statuario from Carrara, which is "the same quarry basin Michelangelo worked from," according to the thread. They made faceplates from Sahara Noir (with a beautiful gold stripe going across it) and Roman Travertine as well. Each slab is 5–6mm thick and bonded onto a 3D...
Halo: Campaign Evolved, the recently released Unreal Engine 5 remake of the campaign half of original Xbox killer app Halo: Combat Evolved, has sold 1.2 million copies across Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Steam, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics. Alinea estimates revenue so far – bear in mind that Campaign Evolved has only been out for two weeks so far – stands at approximately $67 million. The firm estimates the split in purchases by platform to be about 42% on Xbox, 41% on PS5, and 17% on Steam. Alinea's Rhys Elliott calls the sales figures "soft" so far, citing too high a price for a package lacking in competitive multiplayer, while also offering far less content than for more money than the $40 Halo: The Master Chief...

The offering is headlined by the Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition, which features charred black 3D-sculpted grips and blood-red core. Then there's the Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition with Xbox Design Lab, which features a silver skull and two crossed Chainsaw Lancers that you can customize further. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 has been hit by a delay of two-and-a-half months. Previously set to launch on September 17, developer King Art Games has now confirmed its real-time strategy title will now debut on December 3, with early access from November 30. Significantly, this moves Dawn of War 4 out of the September video game crush, which is itself caused by publishers hoping to get ahead of the behemoth that is GTA 6 in November. Games launching next month include Marvel's Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, Silent Hill Townfall, and Onimusha Way of the Sword. "As we approached the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further enhance Dawn of War 4 and deliver the quality of experience we've...
A new short film known as Midnight Drop will turn Halo 2's highly anticipated midnight release into the worst night for a group of gamers. The trailer for a short film titled Midnight Drop has been circulating online. The film, directed by Ricky Staffieri, follows a group of excited gamers as they document the most exciting night of their lives: the midnight launch of Halo 2 on November 9th, 2004. However, what should be an electric night of suiting up as Master Chief and slaying the Covenant turns into a fight for their own lives. A pair of criminals show up and rob the store as it's ringing up customers, eventually unraveling into a hostage situation. This movie takes one of the biggest entertainment launches of the early 2000s and...
CD Projekt has confirmed layoffs on The Witcher multiplayer spinoff, codenamed Project Sirius. First reported by Kotaku, nine staff working on the game were cut. In a statement issued to IGN, CD Projekt confirmed four staff in its Boston office and five in its Warsaw headquarters lost their jobs, with nine others told they could apply for potential roles on other projects. As of April 30, Project Sirius had 83 staff working on it. That number is now presumably closer to 60. “We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development,” CD Projekt said. As a result, four people in Boston and five in Warsaw are leaving the company, while nine others have been invited to internal recruitment...
Sony has confirmed the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for August 2026, which is headlined by Helldivers 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Vampire Survivors. It's a strong month, which also includes Hell is Us, Two Point Museum and Umamusume Pretty Derby - Party Dash, plus a couple of retro classics. As ever, it's worth remembering that Sony is still experimenting with the timing of new PS Plus game releases, which means the games will be released on varying dates throughout the month if you're in the U.S., the UK and Japan. The full lineup will be available to play on July 21 in all other regions. Earlier today, Helldivers 2 was confirmed for PlayStation Plus alongside a major new update and its long-awaited Warhammer 40,000...
Yesterday, Xbox boss Asha Sharma teased The Elder Scrolls 6 with a tweet confirming she’d witnessed a live playthrough of Bethesda’s hotly anticipated open-world fantasy role-playing game. She did so by using asterisks where the subtitle of the game should be, which was all it took to send The Elder Scrolls fans down a rabbit hole from which they have now emerged with some solid theories. Sharma called the game "The Elder Scrolls VI: ********." Now, the number of asterisks used here may be meaningless. But! If the number (eight) does equal the number of characters in the actual subtitle, then we have some names that fit perfectly. I’ve seen lots of people suggest Sentinel as the subtitle. Sentinel is a major coastal capital city of...
Ever since GTA 3’s protagonist (a stoic murder proxy allegedly named Claude) melted our hearts, every one of Rockstar’s rich and varied litany of leading men has reached iconic status. But there’s one that stands out as their most brilliant, subversive best. That would be Niko Bellic, obviously. Rockstar’s biggest triumph, though, is that their other greatest character isn’t subversive at all. In fact, he is Mr. GTA, absolutely everything you and your mum might associate with the series embodied in one gloriously nasty psychopath. Trevor was created in part to solve the conundrum of what media wanks in the late '00s liked to call "Ludonarrative Dissonance", a phenomenon in games like this where the actions of the player in the open...
We would say that more than any other genre, the humble PC (or not so humble if you’re rocking a top-end build) is synonymous with tactical war games. Quite simply, no other platform can compare to the sheer width, breadth, and depth of tactical war games available on PC. With that in mind, here are some of the genre’s best that you should seek out as soon as possible. Armored Brigade II Easily one of the most hardcore real-time war games available on PC, Armored Brigade II has enjoyed plenty of critical acclaim since its release in April 2025. Quite rightly, too. Choosing the Cold War period between 1965 and 1991 as its setting, Armored Brigade II brings a frankly ridiculous level of detail to the fore. You’ll find massive...
Helldivers 2 has surprised-dropped on the PlayStation Plus catalog alongside a major new update and the long-awaited Warhammer 40,000 crossover Warbond. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can now download and play what Sony called “one of the most popular PlayStation 5 games of all time” as a new addition to the Game Catalog on-demand library. Helldivers 2, which launched early 2024, still holds the record for the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever. “Players continue to recognize the value of PlayStation Plus and an ever-evolving Game Catalog with strong content specially curated for the PlayStation community,” said Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment. “With the addition of...
Doug Cockle, the voice behind The Witcher’s Geralt, has hit out at AI platforms that feature his voice, saying he’d sue them if he could. Speaking to Polygon, Cockle called AI replications of his voice “the bugbear of my life,” and expressed concern at the technology being used to make Geralt say awful things, which might then mislead some into thinking Cockle had actually provided the voice. “If I had the power, the money, and the influence, I would sue every single AI platform out there with my voice on it. I would sue them into the ground,” he said. “More than money or anything else is that they could make Geralt say horrible things. They could make Geralt a racist. They could make him a misogynist. They could make him have...
Saber Interactive, the company behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, has denied it replaced a writer with ChatGPT, but admitted its new taxi game Rideshare Stimulator uses AI "by necessity." Rideshare Stimulator hit the headlines this week when it was confirmed that the game's reveal trailer featured several deliberate jabs at Borderlands boss Randy Pitchford. These jokes were acknowledged by Driving Stimulator's publisher Saber Interactive via its CEO Matt Karch, who does not seem to be a big Pitchford fan. But in highlighting Rideshare Stimulator and its cheeky jibes, Saber Interactive also invited criticism from a former writer on the project, Stella Sacco, who claimed she was "replaced" by ChatGPT by Saber while working on the...
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has spoken for the first time about his surprise addition to the WWE 2K26 roster in June, saying it was his idea and the DLC did quite well actually. But don’t expect the high-powered CEO to appear in GTA 6. Zelnick was quietly added as a playable character in WWE 2K26 during the game's third season content update, complete with a full entrance with unique commentary alongside 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra, which is quite the licensed song to get for any video game. The 69-year-old gaming executive weighs in at 165 lbs and holds an in-game rating of 77, which might be fair enough given Zelnick has been called "America's Fittest CEO.” In 2018, aged 61, he was said to be working out 10-12 times a week. He...
Kingdom Hearts 4 news looks set for later this week after Disney confirmed the details of its Kingdom Hearts panel at fan convention D23. A livestream of the ‘DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS panel at D23’ will be available on August 15 at 4.30pm PT / 7.30pm ET / August 16 at 12.30am UK time. Disney said it will offer a “behind-the-scenes look at the making of the games,” but it’s who’s on the panel that has fans excited for what is now expected news on Kingdom Hearts 4. The panel guests are Nana Gadd from Disney & Pixar Games, Tai Yasue from Square Enix, Haley Joel Osment, who voices Sora, David Gallagher, who voices Riku, and Renée Johnson, who is behind the Disney character voices. With a panel like that (Yasue is believed to be...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has released a major patch for the game, adding new Illuminate enemies, a new biome, and raising the level cap. Update 7.0.0 is about players’ fight toward the Void, which will see the cannon fodder of Super Earth run into “new, hideously mutated organisms.” The patch notes, courtesy of Steam, are below. “We have received intelligence reports that indicate these metamorphosed creatures are emerging from the heart of the Void – they are ghoulish diversions wrought into existence by the Illuminate scourge to threaten our freedom,” reads the in-universe description. The patch adds a new SEAF planet modifier that will see Super Earth Armed Forces join players in battle in your missions with a range of...
Bethesda staff have inflated a giant rat outside the company's offices, during a visit by the Xbox management team to play The Elder Scrolls 6. The large expandable rodent is the work of the CWA union, whose members include current and former Bethesda staff enraged by Microsoft's recent mass layoffs. Former employees also carpeted the street outside Bethesda's building with hundreds of red flags — one for every staff member laid off by Microsoft over the past 12 months. Yesterday, Xbox boss Asha Sharma enthusiastically confirmed she had seen a "live playthrough" of Bethesda's highly-anticipated upcoming RPG — and even teased its under-wraps subtitle. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sharma made no mention of the enormous rat sat outside. "The...
Promising looking action game Phantom Blade Zero is getting its very own State of Play, but if the reaction to Sony’s announcement is any indication, the chat is going to be overrun with angry comments about Sony’s decision to kill PlayStation discs. Sony announced the State of Play, set for August 17 at 7pm PT / 10pm ET / August 18 at 3am UK time, across its socials and on the PlayStation Blog. As with so many PlayStation announcements these days, the replies are dominated by the continued backlash to the impending end of PlayStation disc production from 2028. And this new State of Play — the first since Sony’s announcement sent shockwaves through the video game industry — looks set to be no different. “Need everyone to spam...
Pearl Abyss has detailed its plans for smash hit action role-playing game Crimson Desert, confirming it is exploring multiplayer modes. Meanwhile, we have a target launch window for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, and talk of potential sequels. In the South Korean company’s latest financial letter, Crimson Desert got a detailed follow-up strategy plan. None of this should come as much of a surprise given how well Crimson Desert has sold. Crimson Desert launched on March 19 and was an instant hit for Pearl Abyss, bringing in KRW 266.5 billion (approx. $178.8 million) in just a couple of weeks. More than 80% of those Crimson Desert sales came from North America and Europe. Less than three months after launch, Crimson Desert crossed the 6...

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma got to see a "live playthrough" of The Elder Scrolls 6, and she posted her reactions on social media afterwards. She also teased – in the vaguest of ways – the subtitle for the upcoming RPG. "Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning," she posted on her X account. "The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater." Her statement certainly poses a lot of questions, starting with, "What does ******** mean?" Did she use the exact number of asterisks for whatever the word is (it's eight asterisks, by the way)? How far along is the gameplay that she saw? What's the story about? By "incredible scale," did they show her the entire world in a flythrough? And does this mean we're any...
Bethesda has confirnmed a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is on the way, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version now out the door. Oblivion Remastered has been without a patch on PC since July 2025, and still suffers from issues that plagued it at launch, including worsening performance the more you play. In May last year, the tech experts at Digital Foundry said Oblivion Remastered suffered from significant performance problems, including hitches while roaming the open world, frame-rate problems, and even performance degrading slowly with more playing time, potentially due to a memory leak. Then, in May this year, Digital Foundry revisited Oblivion Remastered to check in on how it performs, and found many of the same...
Aspyr has plans to re-release more Lord of the Rings games following its shadow drop of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North on modern platforms. In a press release for the new version of War in the North, Aspyr planted a small tease for the future of the Lord of the Rings franchise in gaming: "The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and is the first The Lord of the Rings title released by Aspyr," reads the press release. "Fans can look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future!" That last part is the most notable bit, as it confirms we will be seeing more re-releases of classic Lord of the Rings games in the future...
Silent Hill creature designer and illustrator Masahiro Ito is clapping back at Madonna fans after a comment he made about one of her music videos rubbed a vocal group of listeners the wrong way. Masahiro Ito is the mind behind some of horror’s most iconic monsters. The Bubble Head Nurses from Silent Hill 2, Pyramid Head, and many other creatures from the first three games in the series were borne at least in part from his creative vision, birthing monsters that have remained staples in the genre to this day. In May 2019, Ito opened up about one of his inspirations for the nurses’ movements in the Silent Hill franchise, citing the dancers in Madonna’s 1999 music video for ‘Nothing Really Matters.’ In the video, Madonna and her backup...
A brand new re-release of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North has been launched out of the blue on modern consoles and PC. Aspyr has remastered The Lord of the Rings: War in the North to modern platforms, much to the joy of hardcore Middle-Earth fans. The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC for $17.99 until August 25th, and then the price will rise to $19.99. The new release features 60fps, bug fixes, and various quality of life changes such as the ability to lock on to enemies, and the option to hot swap to different characters on the fly. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North originally released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in November 2011, but it wasn't exactly a smash hit. The game...
More than anything else, 2026 has been marked by basically every piece of technology getting more expensive. While a lot of the price increases have centered around hardware, Microsoft is now reportedly tightening the screws as well. According to a report from Taiwanese economics outlet Economic Daily News (via PCMag), Microsoft will be raising its licensing fees for Windows 11 by as much as 10%. Now, this price increase isn't for DIY system builders who are buying a key for their own PC, but rather for OEM system builders who sell you a completed system. The license fee increases aren't going to be the same across the board either, as Microsoft generally scales the licensing fee according to the processor. So, for instance, a laptop...
