Julian Gerighty, boss of The Division franchise at Ubisoft, has left the company to join Battlefield developer DICE. Gerighty confirmed his departure in a social media post just a week after appearing on a video game showcase livestream to promote The Division 3. Speaking during the New Game+ Showcase 2026 earlier this month, Gerighty said: “So, The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret. It's been announced. It's shaping up to be a monster. I can't really say anything more than that. But this is, within these walls in Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.” He then went on to enthuse about other The Division projects in the works at Massive...
Much more than just a funky-sounding title that feels like it was pulled, kicking and screaming, from the early 1980s, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is, in fact, promising players a jolly old time filled with loud, splattery mutant zombie slaying across a devastated post-apocalyptic wasteland. Perhaps best of all, this whole spectacle has been tailored to be enjoyed with friends who share a taste for such gloopy violence. With that in mind, here’s why John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is shaping up to be the next must-have co-op game for PC and console gamers alike. Toxic Commando Is In Good, Practised Hands Before delving too deeply into the many aspects of Toxic Commando that lend themselves to such a heady calibre of co-op...
Amazon has announced that its MMO, New World, will be officially taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027. The game is now delisted, which means it is no longer available for purchase. You can still play New World until January next year, with the Nighthaven season extended until the servers are taken offline. “We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion,” a statement on the New World website reads. “We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community. “It has been our pleasure to work on New World: Aeternum and evolve this unforgettable...
Today, Capcom is holding a Resident Evil Showcase event set to feature "brand new gameplay and news" for Resident Evil Requiem, among other things. The showcase is taking place at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, and 10pm UK, with a post-show discussion stream to follow, though it's unclear exactly what that will be about. Resident Evil: Reqiuem is just a few weeks away, and we've already seen quite a bit of it, including the long-awaited reveal of Leon S. Kennedy, who is apparently going to be playable as well, and what seems to be a tease of an open world...or at least a pretty big shift in how the series has historically treated its settings. What new surprises could possibly still be waiting at this point? Is Requiem the only game that will be...
Deadhaus Sonata, the indie-developed action-RPG from Legacy of Kain, Eternal Darkness, and Too Human creator Denis Dyack that IGN first revealed in 2018, has "reawakened" with a new trailer and a targeted Early Access release window of early 2026 for PC, with console versions to follow. Watch the trailer above and check out new screenshots in the gallery below. Now powered by Unreal Engine 5, Deadhaus Sonata promises multiple player classes in the final version, with the first being the Vampire. It also touts a living world, with "enemies, events, and opportunities [changing] as the world progresses, making the realm feel alive and reactive." It's also co-op enabled. "Explore a land shattered by divine war and corruption," the team at...
Elden Ring: Nightreign just got a big balance patch, and even if you're not someone who's great at parsing patch notes, you might want to tune into this one, because basically every character that's been widely regarded as terrible for months now got a big buff. Patch 1.03.2 is simply billed as "Balance Adjustments and Feature Updates" but includes a very, very long list of Nightfarer, Relic, Equipment, Sorcery, Incantations, and other adjustments that should prove a major boon especially to a few Nightfarers that desperately needed some love: Raider, Guardian, Executor, and Revenant. We've shared the patch notes below, but here's a quick summary for each of these four characters. Guardian, whose role is generally to "tank" bosses...
Monster Hunter Wilds fans are asking Capcom for answers after one player seemed to discover that PC performance is dictated by the number of DLCs a user has. de_Tylmarande puts their theory plainly: “More DLC = more FPS.” The tech-savvy Reddit user uncovered what they believe is a “bug in the code they need to fix” and shared their findings with the Monster Hunter subreddit yesterday. If their theory is accurate, it would mean an undisclosed number of Monster Hunter Wilds PC players have experienced sluggish performance — potentially since its February 2025 launch — simply due to their lack of DLC ownership. The Reddit user says they first began digging into Monser Hunter Wilds after they, and many others, noticed “constant FPS drops...
Amazon has announced a Fallout spinoff TV show called Fallout Shelter. Fallout Shelter is the name for Bethesda’s strategy spinoff in which you manage a vault and its dwellers while under pressure from the wasteland. Fallout Shelter the Prime Video series is a reality competition show along similar lines to Beast Games. Here's the official blurb on the 10-episode series: Here's the Fallout Shelter program description, from the now open casting call: It’s produced by Studio Lambert, the company that’s also behind The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge. Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios are also involved. Todd Howard is down as executive producer. The announcement of Fallout Shelter comes with Fallout Season 2 in...
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is once again sweeping award nominations, this time at the Game Developers Choice Awards, where it's been nominated for all but one award. The organization announced its nominees for the GDC Awards today, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 garnering the most by far: eight award nominations out of nine possible awards, including Game of the Year. The only award it did not receive a nomination for was the Social Impact award. In fact, a few games were present in quite a few categories this year. Ghost of Yōtei received five nominations and an honorable mention, and Blue Prince and Donkey Kong Bananza came away with four nominations apiece. The Game Developers Choice Awards will take place on Thursday, March...
As much as I adore the hand-painted Warhammer 40K guys I have sitting just off to the right side of my desk right now, there's always been one thing they can't do that an RTS like Dawn of War can: moving and fighting and kicking the crap out of each other realistically. I mean, sure, I can smash them together and make cool sound effects. But that can ruin the paint job, and it wouldn't really cut it for a new Dawn of War game. It is, after all, a series known for its brutal kill animations and intense battlefield atmosphere. We got a chance to chat with Thomas Derksen, animation director on Dawn of War 4, about how King Art Games is taking the animations for the characters in this universe that we love to the next level. Like myself...
The next Life is Strange game will launch this year and be fully revealed next week, publisher Square Enix has confirmed. An official announcement of the project, widely expected to be titled Life is Strange: Reunion and feature the return of fan-favorite character Chloe, will take place next Tuesday, January 20 at 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern, or 6pm UK time. A YouTube stream link is already available for the announcement, which is accompanied by the description: "Separate the real from the rumor... Join us for the exclusive reveal of the next Life is Strange game." On Facebook, a brief teaser video shows what looks two characters walking by, their faces largely obscured. The second figure then turns their back fully to the camera...
Even after the holidays and the many sale events leading up to them, January has had some surprises up its sleeve when it comes to video game deals, particularly over at Best Buy during its Winter Sale. The retailer has quite a few discounts worth checking out right now, including a particularly solid deal on Ninja Gaiden 4. As part of Best Buy’s Winter Sale, Ninja Gaiden 4 has dropped to $39.99 for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Compared to its retail price of $69.99, this saves you $30 overall. Keep in mind that this sale only runs until January 19. Be quick to grab it before the discount disappears. Ninja Gaiden 4 for $39.99 For those looking to jump into an action game right now, Ninja Gaiden 4 is certainly worth...
If you’re craving a serious strategy game, the past few years have been generous. The genre is packed with excellent titles, each catering to different types of players. But if you’re looking for a grand strategy game that demands total focus, patience, and brainpower, Terra Invicta may be the most ambitious – and rewarding – option available right now. Terra Invicta is set on a near-future version of Earth, shattered by an alien invasion. Instead of uniting against the threat, humanity fractures into seven competing factions, each with its own ideology and goals. Some factions want to resist the aliens at all costs, others seek cooperation or escape, and a few are simply out to profit from the chaos. This ideological conflict adds...
It's official: "several" new Ecco the Dolphin games are in development. Last summer, the creator of Ecco the Dolphin pleased many fans by announcing that not only were remakes of the original games underway, but a "third" instalment was also in development. Ed Annunziata — the original creator of the famed and fiendishly difficult action-adventure games — was interviewed about raising awareness of ocean conservation, his life as a developer, and, right at the end, he dropped his bombshell revelation. California-based developer A&R Atelier, at which Annunziata works, revealed in a press release that it is remastering Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, as well as that all-important third game. “It has been years in the...
Cast your mind back to the end of last year, and you may remember we reported that a group of volunteer modders had united to develop an online mode for Rockstar's Bully (also known as Canis Canem Edit in some parts of the world). Fast-forward just a few short months later, however, and now the Bully online project is "shutting down forever." Bully was a humorous action game that put players in the role of high school outcast Jimmy while attending a pretentious private school. Fans have long called for a sequel, which was once in development at Rockstar’s New England studio in the late 2000s, and while Bully 2 was obviously never released, some of its ideas made it into other Rockstar games like Red Dead Redemption 2. Though the game...
Terraria 1.4.5 will release on January 27. In an excitable post, Re-Logic's Loki confirmed that while the team "did have to resubmit a few things, which pushed us back a bit further than expected," the release date is now locked in and will include "things that got left out of 1.4.4" plus crossover events with Dead Cells and a second collab with Pocketpair's Palworld, this time for Terraria players. While we're on the topic of "cross," no, unfortunately crossplay will not be a part of this update. The team does hope it'll be "made available some time after 1.4.5," but didn't hint at a timescale for that. "The ReLogic team has ALWAYS went above and beyond for the Terraria community," writes one happy player. "For well over a decade...
I went into this deals sweep with the best intentions. A quick look, maybe one recommendation, definitely no reinstalling. Two hours later I was deep into patch notes, storage management, and that familiar internal lie of “I’ll just sample it”. These discounts are not subtle. They are the kind that turn sensible adults into backlog hoarders with the confidence of someone who absolutely will find the time later. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC PC Gear LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the twin 38 year birthdays of some NES greats. The original Metroid needs very little introduction, as it's a franchise that continues to kick goals and acquire new fans today. Conversely, the bodaciousness of Rad...
Umamusume: Pretty Derby's anime film spinoff, Beginning of a New Era, released in theaters in Japan way back in May 2024. And now, it's coming to the U.S. for a one-night-only theatrical release on February 27, 2026. As shared by Crunchyroll, the film will hit select, to-be-announced theaters in the U.S. for a one-night screening next month, and shared an English-language trailer and poster alongside the news. Tickets will be available at a later date via the official English website, though it's unclear how broad a release this film will actually get. If you're not familiar with Umamusume: Pretty Derby, it's an exceedingly popular franchise from Cygames centered around a mobile game that launched in 2021. It features the Umamusume...
After more than 10 years in development, Hytale early access is here! If you’re just getting started, we’re writing a variety of early-game guides on smelting, setting up servers for friends, and plenty more. I preferred to go in blind. Hytale is quite obviously heavily Minecraft coded, but developer Hypixel is also doing its own thing in ways big and small, too. Below are seven things in Hytale's early game that surprised me, coming at it specifically from a Minecraft’s player’s perspective. Anything I missed? Have some early-game observations of your own? Leave a comment! 1. Punching down a single tree knocks down the entire thing at once, giving you a pile of wood, sticks, and sap along with it. No floating tree trunks here...
After about 10 hours in Hytale, the new survival crafter from some former Minecraft modders, there really isn't a better way I could describe it other than to say it's basically Minecraft 2. From the block-by-block breaking and building, to the stylized environments and enemies, to the procedural world generation, this feels like the, "What would we change if we had the chance to start over again?" version of the now legendary 2009 classic. Many games have been influenced by Mojang's trendsetter, but this is more of a cover song than a subgenre from what I’ve seen so far (though I’ve got plenty more to play before my final review). And while developer Hypixel Studios’ lawyers might not love hearing me say that, I honestly don't think...
Hellboy star Ron Perlman has expressed his bemusement at the Fallout franchise and his legendary status within it as narrator of all the video games, joking he was paid "$40 and a sandwich" to record his iconic “war never changes” line for Fallout 1. Perlman first recorded the "war never changes" line as part of the intro for 1997's Fallout video game. He's played the narrator for pretty much every Fallout video game since, with the "war never changes" line becoming seared into the memories of a legion of fans. It’s a line that even made it into Amazon’s Fallout TV show, although Perlman didn’t say it himself. Speaking on the Joe Vulpis Podcast, Perlman clarified that he’s not a gamer, so much so that “I wouldn't know which game goes...
Disney Cory in the House, a 2008 tie-in game for Nintendo DS, looks set to be crowned the best game of all time on Metacritic in the near future — by user ratings, at least. The obscure adventure title already boasts a 9.3 user score average, enough to lift it higher than The Last of Us, Half-Life 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and Resident Evil 4. Across all 5,984 games tracked by Metacritic, the title now ranks in joint second, level with The Witcher 3. Only last year's beloved role-player Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (which boasts a user score average of 9.6) stands above it. So, what is going on — and is Disney Corey in the House really that good? In short, no, Disney Cory in the House is of course a very bad game — at least according to...
It’s been about a year since AMD and Nvidia released the Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5090, respectively, and this would usually mean that gaming PC prices would start to normalize a bit. And while graphics cards are more affordable than last year – at least for now – other components are ramping up the prices so much that it’s still hard to put together an affordable gaming PC. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this is going to stop any time soon. I’ve been told by multiple manufacturers that prices for prebuilt PCs – which are usually the economic option in times like this – are going to start going up. Once that starts happening, it’s going to be incredibly hard for anyone that doesn’t already have a decent gaming rig to get...
Rockstar has launched an official marketplace where creators can sell mods. The Cfx Marketplace, described as a "curated digital storefront where talented FiveM/RedM creators can share and sell their work," is currently only open to a select few creators, but players running their own servers can choose from hundreds of mods — some free, some not — to add new maps, scripts, characters, clothing, vehicles, and more to their games. If the name Cfx sounds familiar, that's because Rockstar acquired the modding team behind the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto 5 roleplay servers FiveM and RedM back in 2023. That came as something of a surprise given the company’s combative relationship with modders in the past. Now, as part of that...
Rockstar has pulled a fan-made mission in Grand Theft Auto Online designed to replicate the real-life assassination of Charlie Kirk. Variety reports that a user-created level named "We Are Charlie Kirk" was recently pulled from the game, and that Rockstar has now added "Charlie Kirk" to its list of banned words — meaning that players will no longer see missions labelled with his name. It's unclear how quickly Rockstar acted to remove the mission, though footage of it was uploaded to YouTube that's now over a month old. Rockstar added the ability for players to create and publish their own in-game missions as part of the A Safehouse in the Hills update that launched on December 10 — meaning this content was made within a day or two of...
Best Buy's starting off the new year right with a little Winter Sale, and it has quite a few video game deals worth checking out right now. Among the variety on sale is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which has dropped to $44.99 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. This deal makes for $25 off both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, and $15 off the Switch version. They won't stay at this price for long, though, as Best Buy's Winter Sale only lasts until January 19. Now is the time to make a move on it if it's been on your radar. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for $45 Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a game we think is well worth adding to your library. IGN's Jada Griffin had a lot of praise for it in her review, saying...
Kiefer Sutherland was arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to local police. The Los Angeles Police Department said Sutherland "entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats" in an incident near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue around midnight on Monday, according to NBC4. The LAPD said the victim was not injured in the incident, which is now under investigation. The 59-year-old former star of hit TV series 24 was released after paying a $50,000 bond, and is now due at Los Angeles Superior Court on February 2. Sutherland's representatives have yet to comment. Sutherland is famous for playing special agent Jack Bauer...
Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders cheater purge is underway, and it seems popular streamer Turner Tenney, a.k.a. Tfue, has found himself in – and back out of – the line of fire. The internet personality, who returned to regular gaming content creation for the first time in two years in December 2025, announced he had been hit with a 30-day ban (which was reversed after just 24 hours) in Arc Raiders earlier this week. He neglected to share any insight into why he believed Embark may have taken action against his account at the time of his ban, instead only sharing screenshots of the notifications and a separate call to action: #FreeTfue. Why Tfue was banned in the first place remains a mystery, but fans online have theories. It’s not...
January's list of PlayStation Plus Game Catalog additions has been leaked online, and includes Resident Evil Village. As ever, this month's additions have been leaked ahead of time by Dealabs' reliable billbil-kun, who states that PlayStation will likely make the list official later today. Already, though, there's excitement among Resident Evil fans at seeing Village join the catalog (it's set to join Game Pass on January 20). It's a timely addition, just over a month away from the arrival of Resident Evil: Requiem on February 27, and just ahead of this week's Resident Evil Showcase event that's set to stream tomorrow, January 14. If you're yet to play this spooky first-person modern classic, now is a great time. (And hey, one of its...
Meta is laying off around 10% of staff at its Reality Labs division as part of sweeping cuts set to affect more than 1,000 people. This includes the closure of a number of VR-first studios, such as Twisted Pixel, the studio behind Deadpool VR, Resident Evil 4 VR developer Armature Studio, and Asgard's Wrath maker, Sanzaru Games. According to Bloomberg, the cuts come as Meta pivots away from the Metaverse towards AI, phones, and wearable tech. The cuts come just over four years after Facebook changed its name to Meta and went big on virtual reality and the Metaverse. Letters reportedly went out yesterday (Tuesday, January 13) morning, and developers from the impacted studios shared their shock on social media throughout the day. "I've...
