Halo Infinite's Next Major Update Will Be Its Last So Halo Studios Can Focus on 'Multiple Halo Titles in Development'
Microsoft has announced plans to put Halo Infinite into maintenance mode later this month so developer Halo Studios can focus on working on multiple new Halo games. In a blog post, Halo Studios said Operation: Infinite, due out November 18, is the last major update currently planned for the Xbox and PC first-person shooter, but insisted it will support players with challenges, ranked rewards, and community events throughout next year and beyond. Operation: Infinite’s free, 100-tier Operation Pass and 100-tier Premium Pass have no planned expiration date. One of the new Halo games Halo Studios is working on is Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is due out at some point in 2026 across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. Halo Studios did not say...
Take-Two CEO Says 'Our Culture Is Extraordinary' Amid Accusations of Union Busting at GTA 6 Dev Rockstar Games
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have been busy. GTA 6 was delayed yesterday, news that broke alongside Take-Two's quarterly earnings call. And just last week, Rockstar fired between 30 and 40 employees, claiming later that they were "distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum" against company policy. The fired employees, however, say they were participating in a union-related Discord chat, and that their firing was "blatant" and "ruthless" union busting. Amid all this, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is defending the company's culture and labor record, saying Take-Two is "incredibly proud" of its labor relations. Speaking to IGN yesterday ahead of the earnings announcement, Zelnick pointed me to...
Call of Duty: The Whole Black Ops Timeline So Far
Call of Duty: Black Ops is a decades-spanning tale of deception, betrayal, and questionable psychiatry. It’s just one of CoD’s several separate subseries, but it’s by far the beefiest. Back in 2010, it would have been easy for developer Treyarch to whip up some jungle assets and ship Call of Duty 7: Vietnam, but instead it unleashed a sprawling techno-thriller with all-you-can eat acronyms in which half of the characters are hallucinations and the rest are historical figures up to no good. Black Ops is where Call of Duty gets weird– a stylish head trip with plot twists to spare. There’s a century’s worth of storyline in this epic espionage saga with more on the way, so consider this your pre-mission briefing ahead of Black Ops 7. Here...
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Finally Has a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Release Date, And It's Not Too Far Away
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be available digitally for players priced $69.99/£64.99. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack will also be available for $10/£10 to owners of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, allowing both content and progress to transfer over. A physical version is coming — which Sega says will "feature the full base game on the cartridge" — but that's not expected to release until "early 2026." Sega also revealed there will not be a Limited Run Games Collector's Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, nor any pre-order sweeteners for this particular version of the game. The publisher confirmed there "will not be a Digital Deluxe Edition on...
Texas Sues Roblox, Alleging It 'Flagrantly Ignores Safety Laws' And 'Deceives Parents About the Dangers of Its Platform'
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Roblox for allegedly "deceiving parents" and "flagrantly ignoring" safety laws. It follows similar action Paxton has taken against "several Big Tech social media companies" and TikTok. "I'm suing Roblox for putting pixel pedophiles and profits over the safety of Texas children," Paxton wrote in a social media post. "We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators where the well-being of our kids is sacrificed on the altar of corporate greed." In a press statement, Paxton expanded on this, writing he was suing Roblox Corporation, "a multi-billion-dollar company that operates one of the largest online gaming sites for children, for flagrantly...
Konami and Cygames Settle Umamusume: Pretty Derby Patent Lawsuit
Cygames and Konami Digital Entertainment announced today that they have resolved their patent disagreement regarding Cygames’ mobile title Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a hugely popular anime racehorse-girl management game in which racehorses are reborn as cute anime girls, complete with equine ears and tails. The franchise started off in 2018 as an anime, followed by a Japan-only release of the mobile game in 2021. In the game, players can talk to, train and manage horse-girls like Special Week and Mejiro McQueen, sharing in their triumphs and losses. As a result, the Umamusume franchise has inspired a cult following, and many fans have become interested in the real-life Japanese racehorses behind their favorite...
Red Dead Redemption 2 Now the Fourth Best-Selling Video Game of All Time
Amid confirmation that GTA 6 really has been delayed again, we have word that Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 has become the fourth best-selling game of all time. As detailed in publisher Take-Two's investor call yesterday (November 6), the sequel has sold over 79 million units — making it the "best-selling title of the last seven years in the U.S. based on dollar sales" — and taking sales of the entire series to 106 million. To give that some context, think of all the hugely successful games that have been released in the last seven years — Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, to name but a few — as well as everything that's released over the last few decades. Apart from Minecraft, GTA 5, and Wii Sports, which...
Dark Horse Announces Dynamic Tali'Zorah Statue for Mass Effect Day 2025
Mass Effect Day has arrived, which means the time has come for Dark Horse to reveal another exclusive Mass Effect collectible. This year, it's time for Tali'Zorah fans to geek out, as the fan-favorite quarian tech specialist is getting a new 1'6 scale statue. IGN can exclusively reveal the first images of Dark Horse's Tali'Zorah 1/6 Scale Statue. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below: This statue was sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios and features a highly detailed rendition of Tali'Zorah in her classic enviro-suit. The statue depicts her wielding her Arc Pistol and standing alongside her trusty combat drone Chatika vas Paus. The Tali'Zorah statue measures 12.6 inches tall and is limited to 1000 units worldwide. It's priced at...
GTA 6 May Have Been Delayed, But At Least It Looks Like GTA 5 is Returning to PS Plus
It looks like Grand Theft Auto V will soon return to PlayStation Plus. While the news hasn't yet been confirmed by Rockstar Games or Sony, Dealabs' billbil-kun once again has the scoop on what games are coming to the PlayStation Plus library, and reported that GTA 5 will pop up on November 18 for all PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. (Unfortunately, no, those on the Essential tier will not be able to access it.) This isn't the first time Rockstar's smash shooter has been given away as part of the PS Plus library, of course, but it does mark the first time in a year that GTA 5 will be playable for no extra cost as part of the PS Plus library. Given GTA 5 has sold an eye-watering 220 million copies, so it's hard to imagine there...
Take-Two Boss Confident in Mafia Franchise After The Old Country Performs 'Well Ahead of Expectations'
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is teasing a bright future for the Mafia franchise after this year’s prequel, Mafia: The Old Country, “performed well ahead of expectations.” Zelnick spoke about the future of 2K Games’ long-running open-world crime series during an interview with IGN ahead of Take-Two's Q2 financial report (the one with the latest GTA 6 delay). As developer Hangar 13 prepares to release new content and updates following The Old Country’s launch in August, the Take-Two boss teased that fans may eventually have more Mafia to look forward to. “Definitely,” Zelnick said when asked if The Old Country performed well enough to instill confidence to continue the franchise. “We’re really excited about Mafia, and I think that’s a...
Borderlands 4 Sales 'A Little Bit Soft' Due to PC Technical Issues, Take-Two Boss Says, but He's Confident It Will Catch Up
Take-Two Interactive says it is confident Borderlands 4 will rebound after technical issues led to “a little bit of softness” for U.S. sales at launch. In an interview with IGN ahead of Take-Two's second quarter financial results (which confirmed the latest GTA 6 delay), we asked CEO Strauss Zelnick how Gearbox Software’s September looter shooter performed. He admitted the launch was met with “a little bit of softness” due to technical issues that have since become infamous in the Borderlands community, but he remains confident “it’ll all be made up,” given enough time. Those technical issues resulted in "a little bit of softness out of the gate on the U.S. sales side, but in the fullness of time we’re convinced it’ll all be made up...
Petit Planet Is Like Animal Crossing Meets The Little Prince
Petit Planet is not the first to mimic Animal Crossing to some eyebrow-raising degrees, nor will it be the last. Developer HoYoverse doesn't shy away from acknowledging the similarities – a character even balks at the idea of its new planet-owning lead falling into debt for merely having a home – though they don't deny that upgrades will come at a price. In my short time of about five hours with a preview of the closed beta, Petit Planet offered a charming, "The Little Prince"-themed take on Animal Crossing: New Horizons with an emphasis on clear progression and multiplayer. While these are two things some seemed to crave and were left empty in ACNH, the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail studio may offer an answer – with potential...
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Delayed 'Beyond Early 2026'
GTA 6 isn’t the only high-profile video game delayed today — Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has suffered a delay of its own. Coming just an hour after Rockstar announced GTA 6 had moved from May to November 2026, Skydance Games announced Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was delayed “beyond early 2026.” In a statement, Skydance Games said the delay was necessary "to fully realize our vision." Tellingly, no new release window was offered. This is yet another delay to Rise of Hydra, which in May was pushed out of 2025 to early 2026. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a narrative-driven adventure featuring Captain America, Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied...
Square Enix Undergoes Mass Layoffs As It Reorganizes to Consolidate Development in Japan
Square Enix is undergoing mass layoffs today, potentially impacting over 100 individuals, alongside a broader effort to consolidate its publishing organization and focus its development work in Japan. Via public posts from former employees as well as confirmation from internal sources, IGN has learned that employees in the UK and US are being informed of the layoffs today, with an unknown number of US employees being dismissed by the end of the week, and a possible 137 jobs at risk in the UK. Under UK law, Square Enix must undergo redundancy consultations to see if any jobs can potentially be saved, so the final number in the UK could be smaller. It is not yet clear which teams were impacted by this, or to what extent. Internally, a...
ROUTINE: Meet the Megazone Arcade and Playable Minigames – IGN First
What if the 1980's became the jumping off point for the future? Like how this year's Fantastic Four movie was a '50's version of the future? Enter ROUTINE, an upcoming first-person sci-fi horror game set on a lunar base. Like all good horror games, silence and loneliness are your worst enemies, and that's true in ROUTINE – except for the part where you discover a foe who thinks the primary threat is, in fact, you. Piece together the events that took place prior to your arrival, and try to survive. ROUTINE is our IGN First "cover story" game for November, ahead of its December 4 release for PC (Steam and Xbox on PC) and Xbox (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox Cloud) – including Xbox Game Pass on day one. This exclusive video (watch it...
'This Wasn't Intentional': Fortnite Developer Responds After The Simpsons' Apu Error
Fortnite developer Epic Games has said it will adjust an image within its newly-launched The Simpsons season that depicts shopkeeper Apu Nahasapeemapetilon with light-colored skin. Fans spotted the image earlier this week on the wall of Moe's Tavern, where a classic picture from The Simpsons depicts Apu, Barney, Homer and Principal Skinner during their tenure as barbershop quartet The Be Sharps. Apu is erroneously shown with the same yellow skin tone as his fellow singers, though as many were quick to point out, the character is depicted correctly in other pictures within the same location. Now, amid press reports that suggested Epic Games was somehow trying to erase the character, the developer has responded with a short statement...
The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Simpsons Games
The Simpsons has been a television staple since 1989, spanning over 790 episodes, a theatrically released feature film, another on the way, and a ton of video game adaptations, a few of which were genuinely great. After all, The Simpsons even invented its own in-universe video games, referenced actual video games constantly, and even went to a video game convention. But as a sitcom family featuring members that mostly spent their time at work, school, or hanging around the house, making a video game out of The Simpsons was no easy task, inspiring developers to create entire Simpsons games out of things that maybe appeared in an episode once, or just make up a game idea out of thin air, leading to some truly crazy results. Here is the...
'This Is Brilliant' – Battlefield 6 Players Flock to Giant Fan-Made Conquest Maps as Map Size Debate Rages On
The Battlefield 6 community has asked for bigger Conquest maps for months, so someone made their own – and they're actually pretty popular. Fans have spent the time since launch asking EA and Battlefield Studios for everything from aim assist tweaks to realistic skins, but few conversations have stolen the spotlight quite like the discussion around map sizes. While some players went to great lengths to determine if Battlefield 6 maps are as small as they look and others took to review-bombing, the more creative individuals are using Battlefield Portal and REDSEC to make larger maps of their own. Thanks to work from Reddit users kurtinthegrind and andy_6170 (a.k.a. ViperAndyStudios), the Battlefield 6 community now has Club House, a...
'We Had to Stop Focusing on Those Who Hated Us': Ubisoft Says Yasuke Backlash Directly Led to Assassin's Creed Shadows Delay
Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has discussed last year's intense backlash to Assassin's Creed Shadows, and said the unexpected conversation shift "from gameplay to ideology" led directly to its high-profile delay. Speaking during a recent event at Paris Games Week, as reported by GameFile, Guillemot screened a short internal video Ubisoft had created to narrate its response to the backlash surrounding Shadows' Black samurai co-protagonist Yasuke — which even saw Tesla and X boss Elon Musk getting involved. Guillemot has now stated that the level of vitriol required Ubisoft to rethink its plans for Shadows — back then, set for launch in November 2024. Ultimately, the company elected to delay the game until March 2025, a decision explained...
'Us Multiplayer Gamers Are the Minority' — Shroud, One of the Biggest Streamers in the World, Urges His Followers to Vote for Arc Raiders Over Clair O
Shroud has called on his fans to vote for Arc Raiders as Game of the Year 2025 over Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling multiplayer gamers “the minority.” Canadian Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek, who specializes in competitive multiplayer first-person shooters, is a former professional Counter-Strike player who has built an enormous online audience. With 6.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 11.3 million followers on Twitch, his call to action has significant weight behind it. Shroud has thrown himself into Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders ever since its explosive launch, and in a recent Twitch stream mobilized his community to vote for the game when it comes to The Game Awards 2025. “We gotta make sure that this game wins game of the year...
Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser Says Red Dead Redemption 3 'Will Probably Happen' and He'd Feel a Bit Sad About It 'Because It Was a Cohesive Two-Game
Rockstar Games co-founder and former lead writer Dan Houser has said he’d feel more sad to learn Red Dead Redemption 3 was in development without him than he feels about GTA 6, but admits the game “will probably happen.” 2018 epic western Red Dead Redemption 2 is considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest video games of all time. Houser was lead writer on it, as he was for almost all Rockstar’s games. But having left the company over five years ago, Houser recently confirmed to IGN that GTA 6 won’t have a story or a character set he developed, but expects the game to be great nonetheless. Now, in an interview with the Lex Fridman podcast, Houser has indicated that he’d have stronger feelings when Rockstar inevitably returns to...
Kingdom Come: Deliverance Boss' The Outer Worlds 2 Review Lands on 7/10, but He Has a Few Stinging Criticisms for Obsidian's RPG
The boss of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance games has reviewed The Outer Worlds 2, and in doing so has issued a number of stinging criticisms of Obsidian’s sci-fi RPG. Daniel Vavra, co-founder of Warhorse Studios and lead writer of the much-loved RPGs Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, took to social media to say he’d finished The Outer Worlds 2 and settled on a 7/10 review score (check out IGN’s The Outer Worlds 2 review to find out what we thought). That’s a decent score for any video game, but expanding his thoughts, Vavra criticized The Outer Worlds 2 and Microsoft-owned developer, Obsidian Entertainment, for fasiling to innovate in the RPG space. Here’s the review in full: It’s worth unpacking Vavra’s...
Battlefield 6 Dev Explains How Bots Work Amid 'Confusion' in the Community
Battlefield lead producer David Sirland has taken to social media to clear the air about how Battlefield Studios uses bots in Battlefield 6 multiplayer to keep players engaged. EA’s latest entry in the Battlefield series notoriously uses bots to populate standard matches that struggle to fill teams with real-world players. It’s led to some confusion in the community, as fans attempt to grasp when, how, and why BF Studios has been implementing them in online matches. Sirland took to X/Twitter to shed light on bots, explicitly calling attention to “confusion” in the player base that he hopes to clear up. The thread of posts comes with an explanation for why some may see more bots than others, as well as the promise that EA and BF...
Ball x Pit Review
I have a new, all-consuming obsession, and that obsession is Ball x Pit. I didn't set out to replace all my free time with grinding its roguelite take on Breakout, but its reliance on strategy (with a butterfly kiss of luck) and enticing upgrade paths both on and off the playfield grabbed a hold of the primal lizard parts of my brain to the detriment of all other civilized activity. I am hooked. In fact, Ball x Pit is the only video game I've played since I first started it a couple weeks ago. I cannot break free from its satisfying loop of running a level and upgrading my balls, upgrading my city to unlock more balls, and then jumping right back in. It's a sickness, a sickness with no cure – and, honestly… I'm not even sure I'd want to...
Oh My God They're Finally Making an Overcooked Reality TV Show
Holy pizza, they're making an Overcooked reality TV show at last. This news dropped today from Deadline, which reports that the series is in the works for Netflix from A24. This would be A24's first reality series. The reality show is supposedly an unscripted format along the same lines as Nailed It! and Floor Is Lava, and will feature kitchen challenges with a bent toward the kind of chaos you might see in the Overcooked video game. You know, trying to cook meals in the beds of two moving trucks, for instance. Probably. I'm sure. The show is in the early stages and is being produced by Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan, all members of developer Ghost Town Games. Overcooked first released in 2016, as an up-to-four-player...
Steam Deck Finally Introduces New Quality-of-Life Feature Players Have Been Asking For
The Steam Deck has rolled out a much-wanted new feature that finally allows players to download games with the handheld PC system in low-power mode. Up until now, you couldn't download anything without the screen remaining on, but now Valve is enabling Steam Deck to "complete all active downloads in a new display-off low-power mode, before going to sleep." It will be enabled by default once you're plugged in, but can also be enabled if you go to Settings > Power when running on battery, too. "Display-off downloads are accessible in two ways," Valve explained. "While Steam Deck is downloading content, pressing the power button now brings up a new dialog, asking whether you'd like to continue downloading with the screen off. Select...
Chicken Chicken Is an 8-Player Party Game Where Everyone Is a Literal Chicken
Get your first look at Chicken Chicken, a new eight-player online multiplayer party game for PC and mobile (and later, consoles) from the makers of Kiborg in which everyone plays, as the name implies, as a chicken. You'll compete against your friends in racing cars, climbing mountains, catching flies, and more. A playable demo is now available on Steam. Additional minigames will be added to Chicken Chicken in 2026. Kiborg says, "Some will require smart thinking with your team while others will involve one chicken vs. the flock." Check out the announcement trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. “We come from a background of dark, violent action games like KIBORG, so Chicken Chicken might seem a bit unusual,”...
Battlefield 6 Devs to 'Revert' Aim Assist Settings as PC Players Edit Files to Turn Off Crossplay
EA and Battlefield Studios have plans to tweak aim assist settings for Battlefield 6 controller users – but that hasn’t stopped PC players from digging into the files to turn off crossplay. Senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson confirmed BF Studios would be “reverting back” to open beta controller aim assist settings in an X/Twitter post earlier this week. It’s a major change, especially for those on console, that fans have pleaded for since Battlefield 6 launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S October 10. Nickerson says the change back to open beta settings will arrive “shortly,” adding that recoil reduction adjustments are also coming soon. Although PC and console players have disagreed on how aim assist...
