The Game Awards' favorite personality, Josef Fares, was back again this year to announce a new project. Well, sort of. In spirit, in the pre-show. Because it's not a brand new game, as many may have expected. Rather, it's a remake of Fares' very first directed project that kicked off his notoriety for emotionally impactful, cooperative play. Yup, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is getting a remake. If you're unfamiliar with Brothers, it's a pretty incredible indie darling from 2013 that follows an older and younger brother on a journey to obtain medicine for their ailing father. While Fares' other games, A Way Out and It Takes Two focus on cooperative play between two people, the original Brothers was a single-player game where one...
To say The Anacrusis is similar to Left 4 Dead would be a severe understatement. From hordes of mindless monsters, to deadly enemies that spawn regularly and use their special powers to put the party in a jam, to safe rooms that separate each act of an episode, this four-player co-op FPS sticks so close to its inspiration it could almost qualify as a spinoff. Unfortunately, that nostalgic mimicry allows for little in the way of interesting new ideas or even expected modernizations that might have made it more fun, resulting in a flavorless distraction that feels like it could have come out in 2008. Combat is bland and one-note, the graphics are well below the standards of today, and enemy variety is almost nonexistent. The only thing...
It’s good news and bad news for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. First, the bad news: the permadeath mode Ubisoft had said would come out in December is delayed to early 2024.Now, the good news: Mirage’s New Game Plus mode comes out next week, Ubisoft announced in a post on X/Twitter.Assassin's Creed Mirage came out in October and, soon after, Ubisoft revealed its launch was "in line" with that of previous entries in the series, Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey.IGN’s Assassin's Creed Mirage review returned an 8/10. We said its "return to the stealthy style that launched this series doesn’t do everything right, but everything it does feels like it was done with purpose."New Game Plus for Assassin’s Creed Mirage lets you dive back...
After trademark disputes, multiple delays, and everything in between, FNTASTIC has finally released The Day Before on Steam in early access. But it is not off to the best start right now with many players complaining, citing server and performance issues as among the biggest problems. At time of writing, The Day Before's Steam page has been flooded with negative reviews from users. Many criticize that despite being labeled an open-world game or an MMO, in reality, it is an extraction shooter, as some players have pointed out.One reviewer posted about how their character was randomly falling through the map as soon as the opening cutscene ended. My colleague Mark Medina actually suffered the same thing himself, and he was kind enough...
After launching nearly three months ago in early access, Skybound Games and Other Ocean Interactive announced that they're stopping the development of The Walking Dead: Betrayal, with the project set to be removed from Steam early next week.In a new blog post, Skybound Games revealed that The Walking Dead: Betrayal will be delisted on Steam on December 1. By December 15, the game will be shut down completely. Those who purchased the game will be able to receive a full refund with updates confirmed to be published on both Steam and the official TWD: Betrayal Discord server."Despite the hard work put into the game, we were not able to find a path to build the spirited community of backstabbers we originally envisioned," Skybound...

Now, just for funsies, let's check in and see how the Elden Ring community is doing-...oh dear! The Elden Ring community is, uh, real fired up right now! They seem to be trying to manifest an Elden Ring DLC trailer or release date, and the fervor for it is reaching one heck of a fever pitch. It's like this on X/Twitter:But the Elden Ring subreddit has a couple wild threads going too, like the person promising to beat Elden Ring with "whatever awful build the top comment suggests" or this person, who is uh...significantly more threatening (and a bit...
A new trailer for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has seemingly leaked, revealing a playable demo that will drop on January 11, one week before the Metroidvania comes to PC, Amazon Luna, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S on January 18, 2024.The trailer, uploaded by PlayStation Brazil, is no longer accessible, very much suggesting that it may have been uploaded by accident. It seems likely that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was set to drop tonight as part of this year’s Game Awards, or at the least, sometime in the next few weeks. Of course, some keen-eyed fans, including X/Twitter user @BossBigBoss73, were quick to capture the video and reupload it.Today’s footage focuses on the...

The Alone in the Dark reboot is delayed from January 16 to March 20, 2024, publisher THQ Nordic has announced, citing the well-being of its developer. In a statement, THQ Nordic said hitting the planned January release date would have put developer Pieces Interactive under immense stress during the holiday period.“The year is coming to an end, and the Christmas holidays are upon us,” the publisher said. “However, until today, it didn't seem that way for Pieces Interactive, the team developing our upcoming survival-horror game, Alone in the Dark. They added a still of Jason from the GTA 6 trailer alongside the original Cyberpunk 2077 cover art featuring male V, with many users in the comments...

The highly anticipated LEGO Fortnite has received its first gameplay trailer alongside its launch today, December 7.The trailer, below, reveals how the brick-building gameplay blends with Fortnite's battle royale. The trailer didn't show any player versus player action though, instead focusing on the building, survival, and cooperative elements. The mode appears to be exactly what it says on the tin: Fortnite gameplay in a LEGO style. LEGO minifigure skins explore the Fortnite map, destroying trees and boulders to gain resources to then build as normal, except in the style of LEGO bricks.Building takes on a more permanent role in the mode, however, with various intricate and extravagant models being shown off in the trailer...
CD Projekt Red are tugging at heartstrings again after including a devastating reference to hit anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1.Fans were very excited over the long requested romantic partner hangouts being added to Cyberpunk 2077 (and are obviously still obsessed with them), but CD Projekt Red targeted them right in the feels with the mission name connected to these meets. As outlined in IGN's Cyberpunk 2077 Guide, which details how to trigger the romantic encounters and what they entail, beginning one will start a Main Job called "I Really Want to Stay At Your House". This is a reference to the song by Rosa Walton and Hallie Coggins, that's been in Cyberpunk 2077 from the start but greatly grew in...
If you're melting in the heat and need something to play in your (hopefully much cooler) game cave, I've got some options. For starters, a few Star Warses are going for cheap, plus the Xbox and PS stores are doing a lot of 75%+ discounts on older gold. Oh, and it's also high time you stocked the hell up on PC-based VR titles, too.In historical news, it's been 17 years to the day since the Wii console launched, along with a ridiculous number of poorly held Wiimotes at expensive TVs. This little console that could went on to end its run as the sixth-best-selling console of all time. With over 100 million systems sold, it also generated 920 million units of software sales — the second most for any Nintendo console. This Day in Gaming...

However, Nintendo Switch and mobile will have to wait a bit longer. Poncle apologizes for the delay and...
Every year, I end up writing roundups of a lot of indie showcases. But inevitably, Day of the Devs showcases are always my favorites. Originally an annual in-person show in San Francisco run by Double Fine, Day of the Devs has added digital showcases to its lineup in recent years and just this year attached its in-person and digital show to The Game Awards.Day of the Devs consistently shows off some of the most inventive, weird, and exciting upcoming indie games in the industry, and this year is no exception. I can’t pick favorites, so here’s a little tiny rundown of everything we just saw in the show, though I highly recommend watching each trailer yourself too!MilitsionerMilitsioner, from the game studio TallBoys, is described...

There’s something about over-the-top, old-school shooters that you just won’t find in AAA FPSs today, and that’s perhaps best exemplified by the likes of the Tribes series. Sure, they might not achieve the same visual perfection, but when you’re skiing across maps and using a jetpack to capture a rival team’s flag while performing midair drive-bys on anyone who tries to stop you, who really cares how slick the textures look? Hi-Rez Studios’ upcoming Tribes 3: Rivals aims to revive the whimsical and hilarious bloodsport that soaked up countless hours in my youth, but with a tighter focus owing to matches with significantly fewer players. After a couple nights going hands-on with an alpha build, playing a shooter that breaks the mold from...
A gorgeous real-time strategy effort that unfurls within the Warhammer fantasy universe and specifically, the more recent Age of Sigmar setting, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin invites players to take charge of one of four very different factions across a series of varied campaign and multiplayer modes. Essentially, if you’ve been looking forward […]The post Everything You Need To Know About Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin appeared first on Green Man Gaming Blog.Continue reading...
With superb JRPG Tales of Arise now boasting a chunky campaign expansion in the form of Before the Dawn, which releases more than two years after the base game launched in September 2021, it would be totally understandable if you’ve forgotten exactly what transpired prior. For those folks and for others like me with the […]The post Tales of Arise Before The Dawn – A Story Recap appeared first on Green Man Gaming Blog.Continue reading...
One month after a major round of layoffs impacted roughly 100 Bungie employees of 1,200, those remaining at the Destiny developer say the cuts, as well as other cost-cutting measures, came alongside an apparent scramble by studio leadership to avoid a total Sony takeover. As it currently stands, Bungie is (on paper) a fully independent subsidiary of Sony. But its board of directors has been divided since the takeover in July of 2022. Among its current members are PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst, Sony senior VP Eric Lempel, Bungie co-founder Jason Jones, Bungie CTO Luis Villegas, and Bungie CEO Pete Parsons. The board as a whole is split between Sony and Bungie representatives, with Parsons serving as a tiebreaker vote. But...
I’ve never seen Kingdom, the Netflix K-drama that zombie-filled action-RPG Kingdom: The Blood is based on, so I can’t speak to how accurately the game adapts its characters and settings. But based on my limited-time hands-on preview, I can confidently say that as a melee-focused brawler, the high potential for customization and personalization in combat and quick pick-up-and-playability makes a strong first impression. However, with bothersome mobile game design galore and a real lack of challenge in the single-player campaign, it’s hard to know how much of a bite you could really take out of the experience. After a tutorial fight and some account-creation digital paperwork, I was dropped into what would be an all-too-familiar layout...
The best indie games in December don’t even have anything to do with presents, jolly men in red suits, or awkward dinners with family members you’d rather not see. Instead, they involve epic battles, complex stories, and building up a town or two. New games can sometimes chill out a bit at the end of […]The post Indie Game Roundup – December 2023 appeared first on Green Man Gaming Blog.Continue reading...

"I'm in awe of...
Star Wars Jedi Survivor, which is currently just $32.99 at Best Buy in its deal of the day. But, this deal will also expire after today; so there's a limited time frame left to secure this latest offer.Best Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Deal: $32.99 For a Limited TimeBest Buy has both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S copies are eligible for the discount. Sitting at right around 65 hours into developer Owlcat's impressively deep and expansive Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, there are a few things I can proclaim with confidence: One is that this game is absolutely huge – I might only be crossing the halfway mark, based on where I am in its intricate but not too difficult-to-follow story. Another is that this is a glorious glimpse into the 40K universe, highlighting elements of it that often go underexplored and showcasing some of my personal favorite races and organizations. It's not without faults, and I have a lot more to see before I slap a final score on it, but Rogue Trader is already easily becoming my favorite of this studio's ambitious CRPGs so far.Unfortunately, it’s also...
