The Rising Tide, meanwhile, livens...
In a surprise shadow-game after tonight's The Game Awards, Baldur's Gate 3 is now available on Xbox Series X/S.While Game of the Year winners Larian Studios didn't announce the news on stage, they did share it on X/Twitter after the ceremony. It's available on the Microsoft Store. We've known the game was on track for a December release for a while now thanks to Xbox's teasing, but this wasn't always the case. Baldur's Gate 3 was originally released just on PC and PS5, with Xbox versions getting delayed due to issues with the Xbox Series S specifically struggling to perform splitscreen co-op. In the past, Xbox has committed to parity between Xbox Series S and X for all games, but it ultimately made an exception for Baldur's Gate 3...
It's time for more monster hunting, this time in the desert. Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Wilds during The Game Awards 2023, confirming that the latest entry in its popular action RPG series is headed to Xbox, PS5, and PC via Steam in 2025.The first-ever trailer showed off the player riding a new bird-like mount across a desert while chased by a dust storm, get caught by the storm and dodge lightning before escaping to a panormaic view of the wilds. All, of course, while surrounded by herds of monsters, including what may be a new variation on Arzuros. The whole thing looks gorgeous, but we'll have to wait for more information on Monster Hunter Wilds until the summer of next year.Monster Hunter Wilds picks up from Monster Hunter...

Today during The Game Awards, Square Enix made a surprise appearance with a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth showing off a brand new theme song, and even more anticipated moments from the next chapter in the story.Frankly, this feels like an abundance of riches given that we've already seen quite a lot of Rebirth. A Red XIII-narrated trailer in November gave us tons of new details, and we got a hands-on preview of the game back in the fall. In fact, at this point, we're just ready for the game to be out already. Still, the new trailer did a good job of juxtaposing the concern at the heart of Rebirth: will the future actually change? Square Enix has been toying with us on this point for a while, by reintroducing Crisis Core...
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt's Sharkmob has announced Exoborne, an open world extraction shooter set in a post-apocalyptic United States beset by extreme weather.Exoborne was revealed at The Game Awards 2023 and is currently in development for both PC and consoles but has no release date or window. What we did learn, however, is that Exoborne will not be free-to-play and will instead be a premium game with a story, live-service elements, and content updates.Exoborne is primarily an open-world PvP game with PvE elements and a goal of collecting as much gear as you can before extracting. This is not a game that is focused on eliminating the other players to win, however, as the main goal is to survive long enough against the...

Don't Nod, the developer behind games including Jusant, Twin Mirror, Tell Me Why, and most notably, the creator of Life is Strange, announced its next game: Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, which is coming late next year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.Don't Nod notes that Lost & Bloom's story focuses on a group of friends who reunite after over two decades of no contact to "confront a long-buried secret that made them promise to never speak again."Only a little is known about the game besides being a choose-your-own-adventure and a brief tease of the plot. But the first trailer did provide us a first look at the four main characters of the story: Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat. Much like some of the other games it has developed, Lost...
Skull and Bones, Ubisoft's repeatedly-delayed multiplayer pirate game, finally has a release date. Again. After being delayed six times. The release date is now set for February 13, 2024 for Ubisoft+ subscribers and February 16 for everyone else. We also learned that a new closed beta will take place between December 15 and December 18. The game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.Skull and Bones has had a fraught development to say the least. It was first revealed at E3 2017, and at the time was planned to release on the last generation of consoles in fall of 2018. Then, in 2018, it got delayed to "2019-20"... and then never came out. Later, reports suggested that it had been quietly rebooted, before being delayed again...
The next game from EA Originals, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, got a gorgeous first look at today's Game Awards, along with a release date: April 23, 2024.It'll be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.The magical-looking side-scroller hails from Sergent Studios, and founder and CEO Abubakar Salim took The Game Awards stage to introduce the new game, alluding that it'll tackle the grieving process. In an emotional speech, Salim opened up about his father, who got him into video games."He passed away awhile back and I'll tell you what, I'm still figuring it out," Salim, who also voices Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, said. "But four years ago, I decided to try and process my grief in a way that felt...
Today at The Game Awards, Black Myth Wukong developer Game Science showed off a new trailer for their epic fantasy adventure based on Journey to the West, including a new release date. But despite its unveiling of a bombastic new trailer, the studio is maintaining its silence on numerous allegations of sexist behavior from the studio's members over the last decade. There's a lot to be impressed by in the trailer itself, which shows off numerous new characters, enemies, and areas. The creatures Game Science has designed are stunning and strange, and the visuals - apparently a mix of gameplay and in-game cinematics - are impressive to behold. We're also introduced to some of Black Myth's main themes, with the trailer backed by...
In an unexpected twist, Sega announced that it has new games from the Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi franchises currently in development. While no release dates were given, the fact that these franchises are getting new games is huge news! Especially for Jet Set Radio fans, who have wished for years that Sega would release a follow-up game as the most recent release was Jet Set Radio Future which was released in 2002 for the original Xbox. The announcement comes as a surprise, though Sega has been open about working on reboots for some of its franchises in the past. In 2021, during a financial results presentation, the company unveiled a list of IPs in its vault that it was looking to bring back...
Did anyone have "brand new Mana game from Square Enix" on their Game Awards bingo card? Not me. But Square Enix showed up at The Game Awards with just that. It's called Visions of Mana, it's planned for release in 2024 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam, and it looks gorgeous. We're still dissecting the trailer to tease out just what Visions of Mana has in store for us. It's been 15 years since the last brand new, mainline Mana game - that would have been Heroes of Mana, way back in 2007. Since then, we've only had a variety of ports and remakes...well, okay, and a spinoff mobile game last year called Echoes of Mana. But needless to say, this is a pretty big announcement for Square to make.To catch up on everything...
We already knew that Behaviour Interactive was teaming up to make a narrative-driven game in collaboration with Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games. Moon Studios, the developer behind Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, just unveiled its next project at The Game Awards. It's called No Rest for the Wicked, and it represents the studio's first foray into the Diablo genre of isometric ARPGs.No Rest for the Wicked, based on what we've seen so far, is quite the far cry from the Ori games while still being recognizable as a Moon Studios game. It takes place in a gorgeous, painting-like world with significant verticality and scale, hidden treasures, monsters to fight, and plenty of quests. It also features intense action combat necessitating practice, skill, and timing - not button-mashing, per the press release. The game takes place in the year 841 in the...
Honk! Or should we say...walk? The developers of Untitled Goose Game, the goofy puzzler about terrorizing a small English town as a horrible goose, are back. And this time, they're making an equally quaint and silly game about taking a big walk. It's called, literally, Big Walk. And it's planned for release in 2025.Big Walk is a cooperative online multiplayer game where players can connect with their friends to go on a walk together through the Australian bushland, particularly inspired by Wilsons Promontory National Park. On that walk, they'll explore, solve puzzles, and be tested as a group on their ability to communicate. To help facilitate this, Big Walk includes a proximity voice chat system. It's also apparently just a vibes...
In a thoroughly surprising announcement, World of Goo 2 is coming sometime next year, it was announced during Thursday's The Game Awards. The news comes 15 years after the original was released, so it's a bit of a shock, but not an entirely unwelcome one. The sequel hails from 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation, the same indie developer and publisher behind the first game. The sequel got a quick reveal trailer as well as a 2024 release year, but no release date beyond that.World of Goo 2 also launched a website with the announcement, although it didn't give us too much more information other than it's "the biggest game we've ever made." That's a lot of goo.The first game hit the Nintendo Wii and Windows in 2008, with the...
Thumper artist and composer Brian Gibson announced Thrasher, another colorful audiovisual experience, for PC and consoles at The Game Awards 2023.It’s a project that, judging by its first trailer, seems to comfortably fall in line with the developer’s past work. Details about the game are light, but developer Puddle and publisher Creature did share a bit more about what fans can expect:“From the artist & composer behind the cult hit THUMPER comes THRASHER, a mind-melting cosmic racer and essential audiovisual experience. Use fast paced gestural controls to evolve your space eel from worm to megabeast in a breakneck race for survival that begins at the dawn of time.”No specific release date was revealed and the team did not...
During The Game Awards today, two of 2023's indie darlings announced some sort of collaboration. We're getting some sort of crossover between Dave the Diver and Dredge on December 15. But what that collaboration is, which game it is actually taking place in, or anything else was a mystery in the moment.Fortunately, a press release following the news helped clear things up. Dave the Diver is getting a free update that will bring the creepy creatures of Dredge onto its menu. It will introduce a new "fog" weather event that will contain the Dredge content, the ability to drive Dave's boat around like you do in Dredge, a new night map, the ability to catch aberrations, a new weapon, and new "Hooded Figures" who will want to eat dishes...
Motion Twin, the indie developer behind the critically acclaimed roguelike 2D game Dead Cells, has announced its next project, Windblown, at the 2023 Game Awards.Alongside unveiling its next project, Motion Twin also shared the first trailer, which delivers fast-paced action, an eye-catching transition from an anime-esque cutscene that cuts to 3D gameplay, and an emphasis on co-op play."We were craving a lightning-fast combat roguelite, but it simply didn't exist," the Motion Twin team explained in a press release. "So, we rolled up our sleeves and crafted the game we yearned for; one that lets us dive into the action on our own, and with friends, whenever the mood (or too much pain) strikes!"According to Motion Twin, Windblown...
Daniel Mullins, the indie developer beyond the 2016 meta hit Pony Island and 2021's 2021 roguelike deck-builder Inscryption, has a new game coming - and it's a sequel.Pony Island 2: Panda Circus was announced at Thursday's The Game Awards with a quick trailer, replicating the crude arcade-like style of its predecessor. We didn't get a release date or window, but it's still a good look at the thoroughly spooky-looking sequel."This is not a drill," Mullins wrote on X/Twitter along with the announcement trailer. "This is not a game about ponies."Inscryption was a critical hit when it was released a couple of years ago, with fans praising its satisfying deck-building and horror-inspired vibes. As IGN's Tom Marks wrote in his 9/10...

The Game Awards' favorite personality, Josef Fares, was back again this year to announce a new project. Well, sort of. In spirit, in the pre-show. Because it's not a brand new game, as many may have expected. Rather, it's a remake of Fares' very first directed project that kicked off his notoriety for emotionally impactful, cooperative play. Yup, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is getting a remake. If you're unfamiliar with Brothers, it's a pretty incredible indie darling from 2013 that follows an older and younger brother on a journey to obtain medicine for their ailing father. While Fares' other games, A Way Out and It Takes Two focus on cooperative play between two people, the original Brothers was a single-player game where one...
To say The Anacrusis is similar to Left 4 Dead would be a severe understatement. From hordes of mindless monsters, to deadly enemies that spawn regularly and use their special powers to put the party in a jam, to safe rooms that separate each act of an episode, this four-player co-op FPS sticks so close to its inspiration it could almost qualify as a spinoff. Unfortunately, that nostalgic mimicry allows for little in the way of interesting new ideas or even expected modernizations that might have made it more fun, resulting in a flavorless distraction that feels like it could have come out in 2008. Combat is bland and one-note, the graphics are well below the standards of today, and enemy variety is almost nonexistent. The only thing...

We said its "return to the stealthy style that launched this series doesn’t do everything right, but everything it does feels like it was done with purpose."New Game Plus for Assassin’s Creed Mirage lets you dive back...
