Konami's Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team won't feature loading screens and instead has seamless gameplay when transitioning to new areas, coming out of cutscenes, and so on. Announced in a PlayStation Blog post, Bloober Team's creative director and lead designer Mateusz Lenart discussed how Silent Hill 2 Remake's PlayStation 5 console exclusivity allowed for some additional features. One of these is the seamless gameplay made possible by the console's SSD storage system. "One last great improvement I want to mention is the SSD storage technology," Lenart said. "The superfast data streaming means players won’t see any loading screens as they seamlessly explore the entirety of the Silent Hill town." He also explained how the...

After confirming its imminent arrival earlier this month at PAX Aus 2022, new free-to-play, first-person shooter World Boss has arrived today in Early Access on Steam. Developed by PlaySide Studios, World Boss had been previously available to try during its open beta playtest. World Boss is described as a casual, drop-in shooter with roguelite elements. According to PlaySide World Boss is also inspired by IO games, which is a genre of typically browser-based, free-to-play games loosely defined by their simple graphics and general accessibility. “With World Boss, we took the quick drop-in and drop-out nature of IO games, the customisation of roguelites, and the strategy and mechanical finesse of a first person shooter, to create a...
It's official: after months of rumors and speculation, Konami is remaking Silent Hill 2. During today's Silent Hill Transmission event, Konami showcased a three-minute trailer that provided a look at the famously foggy town in 4K. In addition to providing glimpses of Pyramid Head and other notable elements from the original game, the trailer confirmed that Bloober Team will handling development and that it will utilize the Unreal Engine. It will be a PS5 console exclusive while also releasing on Steam. Masahiro Ito will provide the creature design while Akira Yamaoka returns as the game's composer. The trailer begins with a close-up shot of a cockroach — a properly repulsive glamour shot designed to show off the game's graphics —...
Square Enix has dropped a surprise release for NEO: The World Ends with You on Steam today. The Steam version includes some in-game bonuses, including the Legendary Thread Set and Reapers’ Game Survival Set. Legendary Threads Set: Legendary Headphones (Greatly increases the item drop rate) Legendary Tank Top (Greatly increases Attack) Legendary Shorts (Shortens the duration the wearer is knocked down) Legendary Sneakers (Increases movement speed during combat) Legendary Music Player (Enormously increases HP) Reapers' Game Survival Set: Pin: UFO Rescue (Hold the button to slowly restore...
I am what you might call a casual gamer. I enjoy playing video games, but I don't always have the time to dive into giant open-world RPGs. It's for this reason that cozy games like Animal Crossing and Disney Dreamlight Valley have always appealled to me. These are titles that you can play at your own convenience for any amount of time and enjoy every second of it. There is a deep comfort in stress-free games like these that always calls to me. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was one of my favorite games when it was first released. The ability to create my own island and slowly complete tasks at a leisurely pace was deeply satisfying. But it only took a few months for me to grow tired of the repetitive gameplay and move on to even newer...
Warner Bros. has released the PC specs for Gotham Knights, revealing some pretty demanding system requirements for the upcoming DC action game. Gotham Knights' Steam page now shows that users will need at least a GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card to play on high settings at 60fps, but only at 1080p resolution. For that graphical set up you'll also need a CPU equivalent to or better than an Intel i7-10700K or Ryzen 5 5600X alongside 16GB of RAM. That's a resonably steep demand for 1080p. Gotham Knights minimum requirements were also shared, with users needing a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 590 to run the game on low settings (but still at 60fps and 1080p). An Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 equivalant CPU is also required...
An Overwatch 2 Tracer skin is being given away at McDonalds, and seemingly only in Australia. As reported by Dot Esports, developer Blizzard and McDonalds have united for the promotion that rewards the Overwatch 2 "Tracer Lightning" skin to anyone who orders a Big Mac, McChicken, or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets combo through the MyMacca's App. The skin is available at every McDonalds across Australia until the end of October, and there's currently no word as to whether the promotion will spread to the U.S. or other regions. If you're an Overwatch veteran, you may recognise the skin from Overwatch's 2018 anniversary event. These days, the skin is sometimes available in the Overwatch shop, but since the shop cycles its inventory there...
Don’t panic – The Callisto Protocol isn’t delayed. And it will be getting a 60fps mode, too. Developers announced via Twitter that the upcoming game from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield is still on its way on December 2, 2022, despite a post from the Epic Games Store listing a release date of February 12, 2023 (as reported by TheGamer). “We would love to inform you all that we will be shipping globally on December 2nd,” they confirmed. “And yes, we'll have a 60 FPS performance mode.” Following confirmation that The Callisto Protocol is still launching in December, it’s likely that the Epic Games release date change was down to a simple error. Still, it’s great to see the game’s developer put minds at ease so quickly, as well as...
When something leans too heavily on nostalgia to entertain, it’s often a sign that it can’t stand on its own without praying on your sentimentality. The Last Hero of Nostalgaia, ironically, is at its best when it’s drumming up gags that are funny and clever even removed from its constantly referential concept. This colorfully pixelated world is filled to the brim with little nods to some of the most iconic games of all time in a way that manages to stay fresh through to the end. That makes actually playing The Last Hero of Nostalgaia much more fun than it would be, as its campaign is otherwise an inoffensive series of checkpoint hunts with combat that might pay a little too much of an homage to the Souls-family of games. The land of...
Members of the Minecraft community using the PolyMC custom launcher are being told to switch to a different launcher after the owner removed contributors from the project in an attempt to “reclaim” PolyMC from people who promote queer and leftist ideology online. According to a report from GamingonLinux, the owner, who goes by the username LennyMcLennington on the developer hosting site GitHub, revoked these contributors’ permissions yesterday alongside an update titled “reclaim polymc from the leftoids.” When the update went live, members of the Minecraft community initially thought this was due to a security issue and that the main keyholder had been compromised, but LennyMcLennington has since posted an update on the PolyMC...

Nathan Drake is the latest PlayStation star to join the migration of Sony’s catalog to PC. The Legacy of Thieves collection, which launched on PS5 last year with enhanced versions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and its expansion, The Lost Legacy, arrives this week on PC. With many at Sony’s internal porting studio, Nixxes, otherwise engaged, the honours here fell upon Iron Galaxy, which has also made a name for itself as a proficient porting studio. The task was to take the roots of the older Naughty Dog engine used on the PS5 remasters and port them over to PC running under the DirectX12 API. It’s a considerable challenge, given the varied nature of the PC platform being the polar opposite to the bespoke nature of the engine designed...
Inevitably, a certain amount of time after The Sims 4 launched, the question everyone started whispering among themselves was, "When will we hear about The Sims 5?" Well, Maxis has just unveiled what appears to be the next generation of The Sims, but calling it "The Sims 5" may not be fully accurate. The working title, for now, is "Project Rene," and it was first shown off during today's Behind the Sims Summit. The name Rene was chosen for its referances to words like renewal, renaissance, and rebirth, "to represent the developer's renewed commitment for The Sims' bright future," according to a press release. Is it Sims 5? We don't know yet Project Rene is in very, very early stages, and likely won't be available for several years...

Eighteen-year-old YouTuber Christopher Slayton recently crafted entire planets, black holes, galaxies, and, well, the entire cosmos. And he used nothing but the blocks within Minecraft. In the more than a decade since its release, Minecraft has evolved into a creative powerhouse, with its millions strong community working together to build a pantheon of block-based wonders, ranging from the Starship Enterprise to the gothic cityscape of Yharnam from Bloodborne. Recently, Christopher Slayton — who goes by the handle ChrisDaCow on YouTube — decided to take the sandbox's creative potential to its grandest scale yet, by attempting to recreate the entire cosmos... or at least the elements we know best. Slayton started off by...
It's no surprise that Bethesda is hiding a ton of easter eggs around Starfield's 1,000 planets, and one of them appears to be a reference to its landmark RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. As reported by PCGamesN, an infamous NPC from Oblivion called the Adoring Fan might just be making a return in Starfield. A video released by the developer last week shows the character creation menu and its Traits system, one of which is called "Hero Worshipped". It reads: "You've earned the attention of an annoying 'Adoring Fan' who will show up randomly and jabber at you incessantly. On the plus side, he'll give you gifts." To fans of Bethesda's previous games, this sounds very similar to the yellow-haired Adoring Fan from Oblivion, who would...
Elden Ring: A Night in the Lands Between is an official concert based on the game's soundtrack - but it's unexpectedly a jazz gig. As reported by Eurogamer, the concert will put a new spin on the Elden Ring soundtrack as jazz legends Kenny Garrett and Takuya Kuroda take to the stage. The show will include "recognisable melodies from the game's soundtrack... performed live in Jazz format - with improvisation". It is, of course, an unusual turn to take for such an orchestra-focused soundtrack, something the two jazz musicians acknowedge in a trailer for the event. "The music of Elden Ring, to me it's huge sounding. Like, the melodies are huge, the orchestra is huge, and it's dark. Different, you know, it's not happy music," said...

Capcom will be releasing a bevy new information on its remake of Resident Evil 4 in a showcase set for later this week. Previously teased for October, Capcom's Resident Evil showcase will be taking place Thursday at 3pm PT. The showcase, which was announced back in September, will provide "the latest updates, trailers, and more for the Resident Evil series." Both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village are highlighted on the showcase's official site. First revealed back in June, relatively little is known about Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake. The showcase should provide a deeper look at the game that has thus far only been shown in a teaser trailer. Resident Evil Village, meanwhile, has a major story expansion launching at the...
Like a sugar-crazed child working their way to the bottom of a Halloween bag full of treats, A Plague Tale: Requiem is confident that the things which made the first game great will be even more delectable in ludicrous quantities. You liked massive swarms of rats? Well, how about we increase the number of them by a degree of 1,000! You enjoyed a gruesome and harrowing journey that tested the limits of your emotional resilience? Great, let’s increase your personal suffering by 200%! This follow-up to one of my favorite action-adventure games of the previous console generation turns the dials up to 11 in practically every way, and overwhelmingly benefits from those escalations despite sometimes being a bit heavy on the nihilism. With...
Electronic Arts will shut down online services for several games next year, including Mirror’s Edge, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Gatling Gears, and Shank 2. First spotted by Trueachievements, the specific date for the server shutdowns for these games is January 19, 2023. There are two Achievements that will be affected by server closure in NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and they are Arena Noob and Arena Vet, which requires players to earn one and ten Arena medals, respectively. Mirror’s Edge, Gatling Gears, and Shank 2 don’t have any Achievements that require online access, so unlocking them after the shutdowns will be possible. EA is also shutting down more online servers this year, including ones for several Command & Conquer games on...
Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian isn't working on a new Fallout game currently - but its CEO Feargus Urquhart says "there's not a question" about doing one if he was asked. Speaking to DualShockers, Urquhart said his studio would unquestionably work on a new Fallout game if the opportunity arose, though he doesn't know if Bethesda would ever ask it to. "If we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we'd make it. There's not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it's just: Will the opportunity arise?," Urquhart said. "I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout." Don't expect anything anytime soon, though. On the series' 25th...
Yakuza: Like a Dragon producer and Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama has revealed One Piece to be one of the game's biggest influences, saying its cast was effectively based on Luffy and his crew. Speaking to Crunchyroll, Yokoyama said the long-running manga and anime series was on his mind during the entire writing process, resulting in Like a Dragon being essentially Yakuza: One Piece in his mind. "I’ve never really talked about this before, so I’m not sure if I should just go for it now, but for [Like a Dragon] I was really, really inspired by One Piece," Yokoyama said. "To me, Ichiban is basically Luffy. And around him there’s Zoro and Nami and basically the rest of the party. One Piece’s party composition was on my...

For the last nine years or so, Damien Crawford has been making games they don’t think people would want to play. Crawford is the sole developer and head of Cannibal Interactive. They’ve made over 20 games through the label, most of which have been released primarily on itch.io. They came to game development after several years of struggling to fit into other jobs such as fast food and mundane government work. A relationship falling through and a need to cut loose from parental support eventually pushed them to try something new. “I thought if I failed the safe path, then what do I want to do? And so I started making games.” Their first project, Legend of Moros, took two and a half years, and did not do well – not even $100 in...
Overwatch 2 has reached over 25 million players in its first 10 days and it has already achieved a "daily player base spread near-even across EMEA, Asia, and the Americas that’s nearly triple the previous daily player peak from the original Overwatch." Blizzard announced the news in a press release and it arrives following a rough launch for the free-to-play game. Despite the issues, players have continued to show up in droves. "The launch of Overwatch 2 has been such an important moment for Blizzard. We’re thrilled to bring new players from around the world into Overwatch’s vibrant universe while welcoming back the existing Blizzard community,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “This is only the beginning—there...
When Gotham Knights arrives on consoles on October 21, it will do so with no performance mode and it will run at only 30 FPS. As spotted by those like Wario64 on Twitter, the news was shared by Gotham Knights executive producer Fleur "Flaoua" Marty in the game's Discord channel, and she wanted to take the time to address this question for console players. "I know many of you are wondering about the availability of a performance mode for Gotham Knights on consoles," Marty wrote. "Due to the types of features we have in our game, like providing a fully untethered co-op experience in our highly detailed open-world, it's not as straightforward as lowering the resolution and getting a higher FPS. For this reason, our game does not have a...
While Gotham Knights' campaign will only support single-player or two-player co-op, a new mode called Heroic Assault will launch for free on November 29, 2022, that will let up to four players team up in arena-based challenges. WB Games Montréal announced the news on Twitter and on Gotham Knights' FAQ page, saying, "Gotham has thrown down a new gauntlet. Heroic Assault, the free 4-player co-op experience, is coming to #GothamKnights November 29, 2022." "Heroic Assault is an upcoming gameplay mode that is separate from the main story campaign," Gotham Knights' FAQ reads. "The standalone mode supports up to four players in online co-op and provides a dedicated arena-like environment with specific objectives to complete and enemies to...
