As long as Gotham City is still standing, Batman will always be there keeping the forces of darkness at bay. Or will he? Gotham Knights introduces a version of the DC Universe where Batman has apparently been killed, leaving his former sidekicks to carry on his war on crime. As it turns out, this is hardly the first DC story to show us a world without Batman. There have been many comics, shows and movies over the years to explore what happens when Bruce Wayne is either killed in action or simply gives up being Batman. Here are the important ones every Bat-fan should know - and who knows, maybe some elements here will wind up playing into the events of Gotham Knights as well! Earth-2 Batman In the classic DC multiverse, Earth-2 is...
When you look at the current landscape of games today, we have new horror franchises popping up and expanding the genre in terrifying new ways. Meanwhile, classic franchises like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Dead Space continue to build on their horrific legacy with new entries of their own. With Halloween around the corner, we are compiling a list of our favorite horror games for an IGN Face-Off, and we want to include your suggestions. We've held several IGN Face-Offs covering categories like best Final Fantasy party member, best Star Wars Video game, and...
Capcom recently showed off a hefty chunk of gameplay from the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake, and fans noticed one key, heartbreaking difference. In the original Resident Evil 4, there's an adorable pup stuck in a bear trap that Leon stumbles upon. The player can help free the dog from the trap, and the dog will return to help you out in a boss battle a bit later on. In Resident Evil 4's upcoming remake, it seems that's no longer the case. As you can see in the video below, by the time Leon reaches the trap in RE4's remake, the dog is already dead, leaving you to face the upcoming fight all on your own. RE fans on the internet are mourning the loss of the iconic canine. Even the well-known "Can You Pet the Dog?" Twitter account...

Apex Legends next season Eclipse revealed their new legend Catalyst. We got the lore trailer revealing Catalyst’s backstory and motivations for joining the Apex games. Just in case you missed it, here’s everything you need to know about Catalyst’s background. Catalyst comes from the planet Boreas. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same planet Seer is from. As a brief recap, in Seer’s lore trailer “Metamorphosis”, we saw Boreas’s long history of environmental troubles. Boreas’s moon Cleo was hit by a meteor and shattered it causing it to weaken and in turn, cause Boreas to be subjected to meteor showers, tide disturbances, and temperature fluctuations. Turns out the moon’s gravitational pull is pretty important to a...
The Resident Evil series has experienced a huge REnaissance (or how about REvival?) in the last few years, with multiple new mainline entries and remakes. With modern remakes of 2, 3, and 4 on the books, some RE fans are hoping to see a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. According to Capcom, however, there are currently no plans to remake the 2000 Dreamcast title. Speaking to Noisy Pixel, Resident Evil 4 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said Capcom's current focus is currently on Resident Evil 4, but if the "opportunity comes, maybe" the company will remake Code Veronica. Code Veronica was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000. It was later ported to the PlayStation 2 and GameCube, and saw an HD release on the PS3 and...
After months without a lot of major game releases in 2022, September came out swinging with six new games ranking in the top 20 best-selling games in the US, led by (of course) FIFA 23. Madden NFL, which came out and topped the charts last month, held it's second place spot according to The NPD Group's monthly charts (which track by dollar sales). It was followed by four new releases: NBA 2K23, then Splatoon 3, The Last of Us Part 1 (the 2022 remake), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. Saints Row, last month's No.2, came in at No.7 in September, and then new release JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle followed. Despite all these new releases, the overall year-to-date top ten didn't change much, with...
Creating an entire universe of stars and planets is no mean feat, but Hello Games did just that in the 2016 game No Man’s Sky. However, as monumental a challenge as that was, getting the same universe into the comparatively itty bitty memory and hardware budget of the Nintendo Switch is nothing short of galactic. Condensing the Universe The Switch continued Nintendo’s trend of finding success within its own market, and has enjoyed those riches with the most third-party games of all its consoles. Many of those ports presented an uphill battle given the Switch’s limited processing power, but with No Man’s Sky the obstacles are a little larger. Despite those reservations, we have been given the full-Monty in either mobile or docked mode...

Valve has released a new Steam Deck Beta update that allows users to skip the device's opening movie and get straight to playing games. Detailed in a blog post on Steam, the update is only available if Steam Deck users have opted into its Beta and Preview channels, meaning the features are still being tested but will likely be made widely available soon. For those taking part, however, pressing the B button during the opening movie will now skip straight to the Steam Deck's main menu, shaving vital seconds from the boot time (or 90 minutes for the user who set Shrek to play as their opening movie, below). The update also added auto-correct for Store and Library search results, support for the Games to Play Together feature, the...
HoYoverse, the company behind Genshin Impact, Tears of Themis, and others, has released a new animated Genshin Impact trailer called "Scenery and Sentiment: Mondstadt Edition" that showcases Genshin Impact's first region. In it, notable NPCs from Mondstadt are shown briefly throughout, living their lives in and around the windswept town. HoYoverse shared that this trailer was produced by Danish animation studio, Sun Creature Studio, clearly noting it's different from their animated series project with Ufotable. It's unclear whether this trailer is meant to be a scenic advertisement for Genshin Impact, a continued piece to celebrate the game's second anniversary, or something more. At the very least, it's possible to imagine HoYoverse...

After the incredible success of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, it was a no-brainer for Capcom to revitalise more of its older games to better suit a modern audience. With every step forward, though, the quality gap between past and present becomes less striking. And now it has finally arrived at the progenitor of the successful, over-the-shoulder Resi playstyle, it’s hard to imagine how much an all-time classic can be improved beyond a fresh coat of paint. But from what I’ve played of Resident Evil 4 so far, Capcom seems less interested in creating an RE2 remake-style gigantic leap. Instead, it appears more laser-focused on making one of the best games of all time even better. During my play session, which began at the very start...
How do you improve on one of the finest survival horror games ever made? That's the question facing the team at Capcom, many of whom worked on the original Resident Evil 4, as they tackle the remake for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, "After [17 years], we too have gained a lot of knowledge about making games. We're now able to make games that are enjoyed on both a deeper and a broader level even when it comes to elements like controls and storytelling. We thought that adding this knowledge to Resident Evil 4 would make it an even more enjoyable title," says Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who was the lead designer of the original game's cinematics and is now a producer of the remake. "That's why we decided to tackle Resident Evil 4 with the...
The Batman: Arkham games sit alongside Insomniac's Spider-Man as the best comic book games ever made. With the Arkham series, Rocksteady Studios blended excellent freeflow combat, top-tier voice performances, and an inspired rendition of Gotham City to create an unforgettable collection of action-adventure superhero games. While Gotham Knights isn't part of the "Arkhamverse," it's release inspired us to create this chronology of the Batman: Arkham games for those interested in playing (or replaying) the best Batman games around. Jump to: How to play in chronological order How to play by release order How Many Batman Arkham Games Are There? In total there are eight games in the Batman Arkhamverse. That tally will climb to nine...
Capcom has announced that a demo for Resident Evil Village's upcoming third-person mode will be available tonight, October 20, and will include 60 minutes of gameplay to try out in the new mode or in first-person for comparison. Announced during the latest Resident Evil Showcase, this demo will be released at 4pm PT/7pm ET. If you live in the BST or AEST timezone, that translates to October 21 at 12am BST/9am AEST. Included will be a small glimpse of what owners of the Resident Evil Village's Gold Edition or Winters' Expansion DLC can look forward to when both are released on October 28, 2022. And yes, the entire game will be playable in third-person. For those worried about a simple rework, Capcom had previously stated that...
A brand-new Resident Evil 4 Remake trailer was revealed during today's Resident Evil Showcase, showing Ashley Graham and Adam Wong, as well as providing a further glimpse of the gameplay on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While the trailer doesn't directly spoil Resident Evil 4's reveal, it strongly hints at many of the mysteries behind the Los Plagas and the plight of the villagers in Spain. The trailer also features updated versions of Ramon Salazar, a familiar villain from the original Resident Evil 4, as well as Ashley Graham. Ashley Graham, as you may recall, is the president's daughter in the original telling of the story. She's obviously older in this version, with a more modern hairstyle. On the villain side, Salazar...
It looks like Overwatch 2 players have found new, hidden areas in old maps which may hint at future content in the hero shooter’s pipeline. Players, such as TikTok user @lowendwibs, have found inaccessible sections in established maps that have been added in Overwatch 2. As of this writing, this includes King’s Row, Havana, and Rialto, all of which now have new, unused areas on the map that you can't reach through normal gameplay. However, if you play a match on any of these maps and watch the replay, you can move the camera around freely as you spectate. IGN has verified in-game that doing so will allow you to find and explore unused sections of the map added in Overwatch 2. These new additions could point to a few things: they...

Everyone has a lot to say in the comedy-FPS High on Life, the upcoming first-person shooter from Justin Roiland and his Squanch Games development studio. Especially the four talking guns. One of them, the shotgun-like Gus, is voiced by Curb Your Enthusiasm costar and renowed comedian JB Smoove. Hear Smoove in action as Gus in the gameplay montage video above, which also includes commentary from Roiland, who discusses what it was like to land Smoove for this game. For some more new gameplay that shows some continuous action, don't miss our exclusive 12-minute gameplay video from earlier this month. And take a look at the zany enemies of High on Life in the concept art gallery below. High on Life will be released on December 13 for PC...
The developers at Infinity Ward apparently already have a good idea for where they’d take a potential Call of Duty spinoff. In an interview with IGN, Infinity Ward narrative director Jeffrey Negus and Modern Warfare 2 head writer Brian Bloom revealed their idea for a Call of Duty one-off, and it’d focus on a popular character from the series. “Yeah, I’m going to say it. Ghost’s origin story,” Bloom says. According to both him and Negus, the two want to do a game starring Simon “Ghost” Riley, the British special forces and main character of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. “There are others who would like to do that too,” Bloom continues. “And we think that would be really interesting. And again, that’s kind of where this interview...
Fallout: London won’t feature a ghoul-ified Queen Elizabeth after all. The ambitious Fallout 4 mod builds a whole new part of the Fallout universe by recreating a post-apocalyptic London. However, in a new development update, creator Dean Carter confirmed that it’s removing the planned characters based on Queen Elizabeth and King Charles. “We have always maintained that if she was to pass away before the mod was complete we would change it,” said Carter (via The Verge). “Do not expect them in there. There’s no point asking in the comments. There’s no point moaning. It’s the official stance of the mod, and it will not change.” Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, and Fallout: London soon announced via Twitter that the...
Naughty Dog has said that releasing the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC is a "transformative pivot point" for the studio, indicating a bigger focus on the platform going forward. Speaking in a blog post, Naughty Dog vice president Christian Gyrling said that, while PlayStation 5 remains the developer's primary platform, putting games on PC allows it to reach a whole new audience. Naughty Dog used its partnership with Iron Galaxy (who ported the Uncharted collection over to PC) to learn about PC development, Gyrling said, and "we’re able to look ahead to the future of Naughty Dog games on PC more excitedly than ever." He continued: "We’re excited to be offering The Last of Us Part 1 on PC in the future, and know that...
Konami has revealed the system requirements for its newly announced Silent Hill 2 Remake, and running all the recreated horror goodness is going to require a hefty PC setup. As reported by PC Gamer, Silent Hill 2 Remake's Steam page has revealed the recommended system specs demand a GeForce RTX 2080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card, as well as an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X equivalent processor with 16GB of RAM. Those graphics cards, which were high-end in 2018 and remain strong options, still don't get the game running at its best. The recommended system requirements will deliver medium quality visuals at 60fps, or high quality visuals at 30fps. The latter is for 1080p; 4K can be achieved, but only with DLSS "or...
Alan Wake Remastered has officially launched for Nintendo Switch, with a special discount available on the Nintendo eShop. Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games announced in May that the remastered version of Alan Wake would be heading to Nintendo Switch later in the year. Today, they followed up on that promise by releasing the award-winning action-thriller on the Nintendo eShop, with a special launch discount of 20% off the game's usual retail price of $29.99 USD / £24.99 price. Alan Wake Remastered is the updated version of the open-world survival game first released on Xbox 360. It offers the complete experience, with the main game and all original DLC, including two story expansions - The Signal and The Writer - that dig further...
The fact that New Tales from the Borderlands exists at all warms my heart, considering that it had to defy the death of Telltale Games to do so. The original 2014 episodic adventure grabbed me with its excellent writing, sharp sense of humor, and likable main characters in Fiona and Rhys. While the unconnected, full-game-in-one-box follow-up gets a lot of things right, its attempts to flesh out the Telltale formula – not to mention the runtime – bog down what is otherwise a funny romp on a new planet with a new cast of anti-heroes. What I like most about New Tales from the Borderlands are its three new protagonists: the prudish, know-it-all scientist Anu; her street-smart, fame-chasing adopted brother Octavio; and the rageaholic...

From everything I’d seen up to this point, Gotham Knights appeared to have all the makings of the ambitious, action-packed smash hit that it was clearly intended to be. I mean, who wouldn’t want a new, co-op-centric take on Rocksteady’s spectacular Batman: Arkham games that’s built for the current console generation? But then, as I played it for 30 hours, it just kept hitting me with bad news: WHAM! Underwhelming combat. POW! A weak, predictable story. BIFF! Puzzling progression design choices. THWACK! Sub-30 frame rates. I’m left wondering how it went so wrong. Some good parts manage to shine through, like the impressive open-world Gotham sandbox, but its problems never let me enjoy the moment-to-moment crime fighting nearly as much as...
