Those playing the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox and PC have realized that they can’t disable crossplay with other platforms. However, PlayStation players do have this option. PC lacks the function entirely, while the only way for Xbox players to disable crossplay right now is to do so on the console itself. While this guarantees that you’ll only be playing with other Xbox players, it will apply to all games, not just Modern Warfare 2. PlayStation 4 and 5 players are simply able to toggle whether they’d like to crossplay with other platforms or not. Unfortunately, Xbox and PC players are stuck with each other until Activision Blizzard puts out an update to enable this function for them. Whether the developer chooses...

Square Enix has explained the eight different magical parkour abilities in Forspoken that allow the player to speed, scale, and soar around the world of Athia. Detailed in a PlayStation Blog post, the different skills won't all be unlocked from the beginning, but protagonist Frey will likely accrue them fairly quickly as developer Luminous Productions appears to be focusing greatly on traversal. Flow is the most basic of the parkour abilities and seemingly the first that Frey will learn. It lets the player sprint through the map at great speeds, jumping over any objects that get in the way like small rocks or walls. It does require stamina, however, but the Rush ability acts as a workaround here as it allows Frey to maintain her...
Thank your own personal deity—possibly Týr, the "we have one at home" version of the God of war—it's Friday! Today's a pretty great day for PC freebies (three by my count). I should also like to take this opportunity to alert Halloween celebrators to Alien Isolation Collection for 80% off. That and this unofficial VR mod for it. Steam’s Big Picture mode on PC will now adopt the specially designed Steam Deck UI. Valve has announced that its newest update to Big Picture mode will bring the Steam Deck’s UI to PC and is available now for testing. “We are preparing to update Big Picture mode with the new interface we designed for Steam Deck, and today we’re making it available for testing,” they revealed. “This update has been a long time coming, and we’re very excited to start gathering community feedback.” The controller-first interface was designed especially for the Steam Deck, but its integration into Steam makes sense – providing greater brand recognition between the Steam Deck and the Steam library on PC. And it happens to be a pretty decent interface...
You want games? Good news. Today, we got new looks at an absolute deluge of games via the MIX Next event, combined with a Publisher Spotlight event and Black Voices in Gaming. For our part, there were ten games that really stood out between the three presentations, and we opted to highlight them below. If you're just looking for a quick, broad look at some of the truly standout stuff from the last few hours, look no further. Here are our ten favorite games from MIX Next 2022: Paper Cut Mansion One of the most instantaneously striking...
Something’s in the air lately, and it clearly isn’t love. No, this is the unmasked stench of death at the hands of the nefarious Murkoff Corporation – which fans of the Outlast series may remember as the same entity that thoroughly mismanaged Outlast 1’s Mount Massive Asylum and erected Outlast 2’s creepy radio towers. The dastardly experiments continue in The Outlast Trials, a first-person horror survival sim that – and I’m putting this lightly – finds all the best ways to unsettle you. I had an extremely tense experience playing the tutorial and the first level on an ultrawide monitor in a dark room, but if you don’t want to go it alone, you can now bring up to three friends with you in a series first. Thus, Trials is potentially the...
Digital Eclipse - the developer behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection and many other retro compilations - has surprise released a new game for Halloween, and you can even get it for free. Candy Creeps is a 1 or 2-player retro, arcade-like platformer that sees you taking on the Pumpking, who has stolen a whole neighborhood's candy and can only be stoppped by some well-placed head stomps, Mario Bros. style. It marks the first release in a new Digital Eclipse Arcade line, "a series of all-new games inspired by classic '80s arcade vibes." "Play as Elma and Harper, two tweens who may or may not have inadvertently summoned the evil Pumpking, who has swiped the whole neighborhood's Halloween candy and hidden it...
Warner Bros. Montreal has laid out issues it's looking to address in future Gotham Knights patches, including performance issues for players on PC and console. In a thread on the game's official Twitter, the team said it wanted to outline some changes it expects to put into the live game, as well as give a general timeline for incoming patches. Those playing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can expect a patch by "the end of the week," that will address "needed fixes" that have come to light since Gotham Knights' launch last week. Broadly, Warner Bros. Montreal says it's aware of PC and console players experiencing performance challenges and is working on a patch to improve overall performance, specifically noting frame rate...
CD Projekt Red may now have more than 800 developers working across some of the biggest names in RPGs, but when it first began work on The Witcher – which was released 15 years ago this week – it had none of that. It was known for distributing games in Poland, not developing, and very few outside of the country had heard of it or its new project, a dark fantasy RPG based on a series of novels and short stories. What CD Projekt Red did have was ambition, and despite not knowing at times if it would even complete development on the original game, the team had already planned a trilogy of Witcher titles that would eventually make the game a household name. It’s almost as if a studio with no experience announced a trilogy of Lord of the...
The developers behind Moonbreaker have completely overhauled its Early Access business model to remove all microtransactions and monetization from the game. Developer Unknown Worlds detailed the game's first major content update, dubbed "Zax's Story," in a post on Moonbreaker's Steam page. The newly-released patch features a ton of community-driven changes to gameplay, such as the removal of monetization, which means the in-game store is getting disabled and in-game currencies are being withdrawn. "We've been reading and evaluating everything you've suggested on our Discord and Nolt board – which already helped to guide our decision to remove Cargo Run Contracts from Moonbreaker – and have been diligently reviewing every area of the...

IGN is carrying the stream and, as usual, this watch guide will provide you with everything you need to know to watch the multiplayer showcase. This extends to the in-game TV shows, movies, and shorts, many of which Roiland and the Squanch team wrote specifically for this game. The Callisto Protocol has been completely cancelled in Japan following a dispute between developer Striking Distance Studios and the Japanese ratings board. As reported by PC Gamer, Striking Distance announced on Twitter that the current version of The Callisto Protocol - a particularly gory and violent horror game from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield - cannot pass Japan's Computer Entertainment Rating Organisation (CERO) in its current form, and altering the game would remove from its vision. The two sides are therefore at a standstill, as CERO won't give the game a rating before its content is changed, and Striking Distance won't change it. Neither company explained what about the game was deemed to be an issue. "The Callisto...

Somerville - the new game from Limbo and Inside co-creator Dino Patti's new studio - will be released on November 15 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be included on Xbox Game Pass upon release. The studio revealed the launch date in a new, but rather low-key trailer. Somerville is a third-person adventure game following a family of four on a post-apocalyptic Earth. The father, mother, son, and dog must navigate around obstacles like ancient civilization ruins and mysterious aliens. Players must also work with other human survivors in order to keep the family safe. Somerville was first revealed in 2017 with a teaser trailer, followed by an announcement trailer at E3 2021. Now, it’ll finally release in a few short...

Digital collectible card game Marvel Snap is off to a hot start after earning $2 million in its first week on the market. As reported by mobilegamer.biz, Marvel Snap reportedly raked in $1.3 million on iOS devices and $737,000 on Android. It also accrued 5.3 million downloads since its launch on October 17, though interestingly, these numbers were split the opposite way, with 3.8 million on Android and 1.5 million on iOS. Marvel Snap has been most popular in North America so far, currently sitting at the top of the iOS charts in the U.S. and Canada. 1.3 million of its downloads were in the U.S., followed by 433,000 in Brazil, 342,000 in Italy, 325,000 in Indonesia, and 256,000 in Thailand. The U.S. leads again in revenue at $1.2...
Back in June, fans of 2014 physics-based driving game Spintires encountered a frustrating problem when the game was suddenly and mysteriously removed from Steam. It was reinstated not long after and then, just a few days later, removed again. It hasn’t returned since, and fans have been left in the dark as to whether they’ll ever be able to download, update, or share their beloved driving games with others ever again. The reason for Spintires’ disappearance appears, on the surface, to be a series of DMCA takedowns filed by Saber Interactive (formerly S3D), the publisher of Spintires sequels MudRunner and SnowRunner. Articles from June detail a long, exhausting battle between the two companies, with Saber issuing repeated legal...
EA games including FIFA, Battlefield and more will no longer be sold physically in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Scandinavia. Industry analyst MauroNL shared a report from Games Wirtschaft on Twitter (below), which states that the German-based Electronic Arts GmbH will no longer sell physical copies of its games in these countries, leaving digital downloads as the only option. "The ongoing shift from physical goods to digital downloads continues to have a negative impact on sales development," EA Germany's latest annual report reads. "Revenue from digital downloads is not processed through EA, but through an affiliate." We've contacted EA to see if this policy may roll out more widely. EA will "no longer generate any sales...
Marvel's Midnight Suns will be getting post-launch content and a Season Pass that adds Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm as playable characters. Though publisher 2K didn't share when the DLC packs will be released, each one is centred around one character and contains new story missions, a new upgrade for hub area The Abbey, and new skins and outfits. Deadpool arrives first, and 2K has already hinted at the foulmouthed mercenary having fourth-wall breaking moments. Venom is next, and though he features as one of the main game's bosses, Spider-Man's nemesis abandons his villainy to become a new playable hero. Morbius, who is one of the original Midnight Suns in the Marvel comics, is the third DLC character, while the X-Men's Storm...
The scary amount of savings continues today with ripper deals on Resident Evils. That 4x bundle on PC is worth typewriting home about. Also—as something of a Throwback Thursday inclusion—I'm seeing bargain prices on ye olde Resi 4. Has it dated visually? Sure. Is the gameplay and plot still best-in-series timeless? You bet. Basically, on any other day of the week I'd buy it at a high price. The chance to score it for under a tenner is a no-brainer, stranger. Fallout: New Vegas definitely stands on its own as a full game, but it was originally conceptualized as a huge expansion for Fallout 3. In a Fallout retrospective video posted by Bethesda, Bethesda executive producer and Fallout 3 director Todd Howard explained how New Vegas came to be. Fallout fans are definitely glad the project turned into a full game, as Fallout: New Vegas is one of the greatest open world games of all time. Microsoft now owns New Vegas developer Obsidian, making a potential follow-up a possibility. However, just last week, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart said the studio isn't working on a Fallout game right now, but "there's not a question" about doing it if the opportunity arose. Instead, Obsidian is preparing to...
Infinity Ward has laid out some changes that have been made to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 in response to feedback from the game’s beta ahead of its launch later this week. In a post on the studio’s website, the team broke down several change categories, including audio, UI, and movement. Most of these changes came from feedback on the multiplayer, but will also be applicable to the story campaign, as well. The full list of changes reads as follows: Enemy Visibility We have added diamond icons above the heads of enemies. This should make it easier for players to clearly identify opponents in the game. Additionally, we’ve continued to tweak lighting and contrast for improved enemy visibility. Audio We’ve shortened the...

Despite George R.R. Martin's involvement with Elden Ring, the author revealed he has not played FromSoftware's latest epic for himself. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which was spotted by GamesRadar, Martin explained why. "I have not played it because people seem to want this Winds of Winters book," Martin said. "And I have, unfortunately, a totally addictive personality. I did play video games a long, long time ago. I played games like Railroad Tycoon, and Master of Orion, and Homeworld and I would get sucked into it, and weeks, months would go by and I'd be sitting there in my red flannel bathrobe just like, 'one more game, one more game,' and [finally I went], 'I can't, I gotta go cold turkey on this, this is...
Callisto Protocol director Glen has addressed his tweet where he proudly celebrated his team crunching towards the finish line on The Callisto Protocol. The director now says it was his fault for putting the team through crunch. In September, Schofield in a now-deleted Tweet said he was proud of his team working "6-7 days a week" and after hours in order to finish The Callisto Protocol, a new survival horror game from the studio. "The truth is, I messed up," Schofield says in an interview with Inverse. "We're a small-ish team and we were so good about it through the entire development, but at the end I messed up and we worked more than we should have. That one got away from us," Schofield admits. The director also says that the...
After a lot of back and forth between Xbox and Sony about Call of Duty's availability on other systems should the upcoming Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard go through, Xbox head Phil Spencer has just tossed another piece of hardware into the mix: the Nintendo Switch. Per The Verge's Tom Warren, Spencer said today at WSJ Live that not only will Call of Duty be available on PlayStation, but he also wants to bring it to Nintendo's hybrid device. "Call of Duty specifically will be available on PlayStation. I'd love to see it on the Switch, I'd love to see the game playable on many different screens. Our intent is to treat Call of Duty like Minecraft." Minecraft, for context, is available on an absurd number of platforms...
Xbox boss Phil Spencer is not impressed by the metaverse as it is currently. Spencer is at WSJ Live taking questions and was asked about his thoughts on the metaverse. As reported by The Verge's Tom Warren, Spencer was critical of the version of the metaverse that currently exists. "Today it's a poorly built video game. Building a metaverse that's like a living room is not how I want to spend my time." However, Spencer adds that it's early days and that "this will evolve." The metaverse is the hot buzzword of the year with Meta (formerly Facebook) the company championing it the hardest. However, Spencer's comments about a living room could be a veiled jab at Meta which is positioning the metaverse as a business tool where employees...

All three games will be made available at no extra cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers on November 1. Fighting fire with fire, the player takes on swarms of deadly Yokai, samurai warriors, and gargantuan boss monsters. PlayStation 5 owners will get access to the remastered version while PlayStation 4 owners will receive the standard. In our 9/10 review, IGN said: "Nioh 2 is an impressive...
