Yakuza fans desperate for more information on Lika a Dragon 8 could hear more at RGG Summit: Summer 2023, which Sega has announced will take place on June 15. Sega has yet to reveal how fans can watch along but, as was the case last year, it will likely be streamed on its official Twitch channel. The publisher didn't share any information on what fans can expect, though RGG Studio primarily focuses on the Yakuza franchise (which has been rebranded as Like a Dragon in the west) and it's likely we'll get an update there. Last year's event saw the full...

When Diablo 3 was first revealed in 2008 the internet lost its collective shit. Thousands of fans signed petitions and rallied against the game, demanding that Blizzard made a change. Why? Because Diablo 3, in a departure from its predecessors, looked like a “cartoon.” Prior to Diablo 3, Blizzard’s action RPG series had a distinctly gothic visual palette. The stones that walled the dungeons of Diablo 1 and 2 were dark, and the shadows in their crevices even darker. The light generated by flickering flames or bolts of magical lightning illuminated a grim fantasy world with a realistic texture. Well, at least as realistic as PCs of the late 1990s could render. Diablo 3, though, looked like a horror fantasy comic book. Its world glowed...

Daedalic Entertainment, the studio behind the long-delayed and poorly-reviewed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum that came out yesterday, appears to be working on another Lord of the Rings game — one that potentially features the franchise's iconic wizards. According to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany website, as translated by IGN, Daedalic is working on another 3D action adventure game set within the Lord of the Rings universe that will "transport the player into a lush world full of mythical creatures and magic." The project is codenamed "It's Magic." German-speaking magazine Games Wirtschaft pointed out that Daedalic Entertainment received roughly €2 million in funding from the German government...
In March, Minecraft revealed new details about its 1.20 Trails and Tales update, which emphasizes "self-expression through representation, storytelling, and worldbuilding." Now, the update finally has a release date. Today, Minecraft made a blog post revealing that Trails and Tales will be downloadable for free on June 7. The blog post also delves into the details of the update, which introduces quite a few new mobs and blocks, as well as some minor changes catered toward storytelling. Trails and Tales brings the long-awaited camel, which can fit two riders, and the sniffer, the "gentle giant" that the community voted for during Minecraft Live 2022. It also introduces two new wood sets: bamboo and cherry, the latter of which is found...

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have announced the first piece of DLC for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. It’s called Battle of Zhongyuan and will launch on June 29. The DLC includes a new story scenario, difficulty level, and weapon type, as well as new stages, enemies, and lore. Not many other specific details were revealed, aside from the key art depicting three Chinese warriors, but more information will be shared soon. Zhongyuan is known as the “Central Plains” and refers to the North China Plan surrounding the lower and middle parts of the Yellow River. It's perceived as the birthplace of Chinese civilization. The game will also receive two more DLC expansions later this year. Conqueror of Jiangdong is set to release in September, while...
A physical release for Alan Wake 2 might be possible after all as THQ Nordic has teased it's interested in publishing a hard copy of what was a digital only sequel. THQ Nordic published the first Alan Wake game on PC and released a physical disc. “I mean... we did the disc version of Alan Wake for PC back in the day ICYMI,” THQ Nordic said on Twitter. “And just because one person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do. Give it some thought. We'd love to go at it again! Full circle and all.” While this is far from a confirmation, THQ Nordic’s proposal gives a glimmer of hope for those wanting to get a physical copy of Alan Wake 2. Earlier this week, Remedy Entertainment revealed the sequel would be a...
Bungie’s announcement of a reimagined Marathon as a PvP extraction shooter during the May 24 PlayStation Showcase was certainly a pleasant surprise. It was clear from comments on Twitter and in the live chat during the stream that there’s a whole generation of gamers unaware of the impressive 29 year legacy behind the name, and let’s face it: why would they be? Save for a free release designed to work on modern Macs, PCs, and Linux systems in 1999, an Xbox Live Arcade port of Marathon: Durandal in 2007, a port to iOS in 2011, and a bunch of easter eggs hidden in both Halo and Destiny (the Marathon symbol pops up all over the place in the first three Halo games, for example) the franchise has been left alone since the third game in the...

THQ Nordic has announced that the Alone in the Dark reboot is launching October 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC and that a free demo is available now. Users on these platforms can download the playable prologue of Alone in the Dark to experience what the full game will have to offer without receiving any spoilers from the main story. The standalone demo puts players in the shoes of 11-year-old Grace Saunders as she runs an errand that quickly goes wrong. The publisher also revealed that Stranger Things' David Harbour will star as one dual-protagonist Edward Carnby while Killing Eve's Jodie Comer will play the other, Emily Hartwood. Players can choose to play through the story as either character, though THQ Nordic promises...

Survival Horror is a genre we take for granted, but back in 1992 a little game called Alone in the Dark really kickstarted the whole idea, giving us a taste of limited resources and investigative adventure against the odds. Now Pieces Interactive is remaking that classic in a star-studded, atmospheric take that promises to deliver the classic horror plot to modern audiences. Heading that up is Mikael Hedberg, writer and director of Amnesia and Soma, and between his answers and answers from publisher THQ Nordic at a press Q&A things are looking pretty promising as we gear up to return to the deeply haunted Louisiana Bayou around Derceto. The big reveal is that Stranger Things actor David Harbour will be playing the role of detective...
Marvelous revealed today that it is working on several new games, including Rune Factory 6, Rune Factory: Project Dragon, a new Story of Seasons, and Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion. Rune Factory 6 is currently in development and the game will take place in the western continent of Adonea. Rune Factory: Project Dragon is a spin-off set in the “Land of the East.” The latter's setting has been referenced throughout the series but was never shown. Project Dragon is inspired by Japanese culture and will represent the East while Rune Factory 6 represents the West. The next Story of Seasons game will explore the theme of “experiences.” Series manager Hikaru Nakano said that the future entry is one where everyone can play with each other...
Developer Blackbird Interactive and publisher Gearbox have announced that Homeworld 3 has been delayed to February 2024. It was originally planned to launch during the first half of 2023. “Our primary goal is to deliver a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is worthy of this series’ incredible legacy,” Blackbird and Gearbox explained in a statement on Twitter. They continued, saying, “Homeworld 3 is shaping up to be exactly that, but in order to fully realize that vision we need more time to refine and polish the game.” Homeworld 3 was first announced all the way back in 2019 for PC. The game was initially scheduled to release in Q4 2022 but then was delayed into 2023 in order to protect...

Bungie has shared a new video documentary about Marathon, its newly announced sci-fi PvP extraction shooter. Announced at yesterday's PlayStation Showcase, the new Marathon is the first entry in the franchise since 1996. The game is PvP-focused and won't have a single-player campaign, but it will honor the mythology and story of the original Marathon games. We've already learned even more details about the upcoming shooter thanks to a six-and-a-half minute video Bungie posted after fans quickly solved one of the developer's famous ARG (alternate reality game) puzzles. We'll get to the scavenger hunt Bungie fans went on yesterday to uncover the ViDoc, but first, let's get to the content of the video itself. In Marathon, you play as...

It will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Realms of Ruin will feature both a story-driven single player campaign and PvP multiplayer modes, with support for 1v1 and 2v2 cross-platform matches. There will be four playable factions, and the cinematic announcement trailer reveals the first two of them: the Stormcast Eternals and the Orruk Kruleboyz. For anyone not fully familiar with the lexicon of the Age of Sigmar universe, that means thunder-powered humans versus cunning orcs. If you are a Warhammer devotee, then you’ll recognise this Stormcast vs. Orruks set-up...

Whether it’s a book, a movie, or a video game, creative works generally exist for a reason. Sometimes it’s to delight, by entertaining with stories or fun gameplay. Other times it’s to inform, with news or by exposing the audience to different perspectives. Or it makes you think, with interesting ideas that challenge you to consider or reflect. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, however, is a game that does none of these things. Instead, it thrusts you into the role of the titular character without doing anything meaningful with his defining internal conflict, and sends him on a series of missions that are neither fun to play nor interesting to experience. The one question it poses is: why would someone want to play this? Playing as...
What a thrill! Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is getting a full-fledged remake. Admittedly, this isn’t the first Metal Gear game I’d pick to get an overhaul, but it makes the most sense for a lot of reasons. For starters, it’s an awesome game. Duh. Snake Eater isn’t even in my personal top three Metal Gear games (a controversial, borderline blasphemous stance) but I fully recognize it’s the best entry in the series. Despite being one of the more divisive outings, Snake Eater’s predecessor, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, was also one of the best-selling. Love it or hate it, Naked Raiden cartwheeled so Naked Snake could crawl. MGS2’s success was undoubtedly a bit of a monkey-paw wish, since it earned Kojima and company plenty of...
The first gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage has finally emerged from the shadows, and it shows that Ubisoft’s upcoming historical murder sim is taking the series back to its roots. The trailer may only be just shy of two minutes long, but there’s plenty of details packed in there. Here’s the five major things that you need to know. Back to Old School In Mirage you take on the role of Basim, a character who played a pivotal role in the story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. These events play out two decades before he meets Eivor, though, and so Mirage is something of a prequel. You’ll be working with the original Assassins, the Hidden Ones, under the mentorship of Roshan, voiced by Emmy award-winning actor Shohreh Aghdashloo...
Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Destiny 2. Destiny 2 has teased the return of a major character in its upcoming expansion, The Final Shape. A new teaser trailer (above) for the game’s upcoming expansion has unveiled the return of a fan-favorite character who hasn’t been seen in quite a while. Cayde-6 (voiced by Nathan Fillion) will be back in The Final Shape, Destiny 2’s next expansion which follows on from the recent Lightfall expansion. In the video, he’s seen conversing with Ikora Rey, one of his fellow Guardians, and one of the three original class Vanguards. But quite how he’s back remains a bit of a mystery… and it might not be a permanent thing. “I wish you could have been there,” says Ikora as she...
Konami has explained the meaning of the mysterious Δ symbol embedded in the title of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, which was revealed during last night’s PlayStation Showcase. “The Delta symbol (Δ) was chosen because its meaning fits the concept of the remake project,” read a tweet from the official Metal Gear twitter account. “Delta means 'change' or 'difference' without changing structure.” Delta is a symbol taken from the Greek alphabet, which is often used in the modern era to denote a state of change, chiefly in scientific fields. For example a lowercase version of the symbol can denote an alteration in molecular chemistry, while the change in velocity of a space rocket is measured in delta v (Δv). In this case, the symbol has...
Sony may have revealed a ton of games including Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake at its PlayStation Showcase but Microsoft has taken to Twitter to make clear that a dozen of them are also coming to Xbox. A tweet from the official Xbox account (below) didn't mince words. "Coming to Xbox" lit up one side of the image while 12 games lit up the other, including Immortals of Aveum, Ghostrunner 2, Marathon, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2, The Plucky Squire, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Neva, Cat Quest 2, and The Talos Principle 2. "What a good looking group", the tweet added. There was some confusion for those watching along with the Showcase as it wasn't immediately obvious which games would be exclusive to the...

At the start of today's PlayStation Showcase, Sony unveiled a new heist game entitled Fairgame$, the first title coming out of Jade Raymond's Haven Studios. We didn't see anything in the way of actual gameplay from the Fairgame$ trailer, but according to a post on the PlayStation blog, it's a competitive heist game about robbing the ultra-rich. And it the trailer is any indication, there will be a lot of grappling hooks and breaking into giant vaults and mansions involved. It seems to include teams competing against one another to rob absurdly loaded mansions, with a pretty hefty dose of Payday vibes. Haven was first announced back in 2021 as a new Montreal-based studio intended to "create worlds where players can escape, have fun...
Remedy Entertainment revealed that Alan Wake 2 will be a digital only release across all platforms. In a frequently asked questions page on the Alan Wake website, Remedy explained, "There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number of have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only." Remedy continued by saying that not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $60 on console and $50 on PC. The studio didn't want to want to ship a disc and have it require a download for the game either as it wouldn't be a great experience. There are also currently no plans to produce...
Bungie has revealed the next installment in its Marathon series, which has not seen a new entry since 1996. During today's PlayStation Showcase, Bungie revealed a trailer for a revival of Marathon, its sci-fi first-person shooter series. Bungie is calling it its first completely new project in more than a decade. Marathon is currently for both PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC and will feature cross-play and cross-save. According to the PlayStation Blog, "Marathon will find players engaging one another as cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, exploring a lost colony on the planet of Tau Ceti IV in search of riches, fame, and infamy." In an interview in the same blog post, Marathon Game Director Christopher Barrett revealed...
