CD Projekt Red has revealed to IGN how certain NSFW textures made their way into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's next-gen update, and why it's going to remove them. The prolific Witcher 3 PC modding community is responsible for creating a dizzying array of modifications to the legendary RPG, ranging from graphical and texture enhancements to countless quality of life and inventory management improvements. At some stage, a modder also decided to create anatomically correct genitals for female characters, and those modifications somehow made it into the next-gen update for The Witcher 3 alongside the range of other mods that were officially adopted by the studio. “As was understood by CD PROJEKT RED until very recently, the vulva textures...

Award-winning video game music composer Mick Gordon has noted he will be donating his fee for his work on Atomic Heart to charity in support of Ukrainian civilians suffering amid the 2022 Russian invasion. The Australian-based musician has donated his fee to the Australian Red Cross' Ukraine Crisis Appeal, explaining the Red Cross has been "a vital resource for those affected by the conflict, providing aid, medical care, and psychosocial support." Gordon explains he was contacted by Atomic Heart developer Mundfish Studio in April 2020, just under two years before the February 2022 Russian invasion. Mundfish was founded in Moscow in 2017 but appears to have recently relocated its headquarters to Cyprus. Its official site describes a...

Amid a whirlwind of announcements from developers that they would be discontinuing support for their live-service games, some analysts online have begun to assert that the Games as a Service (or GaaS) model has run its course. As someone who spends an embarrassing amount of time playing, and reviewing, many games that make use of the GaaS model, I’m here to tell you that reports of the death of the live-service model have been greatly exaggerated. I can’t blame people for thinking the season pass-filled sky is falling — it’s been an absolutely horrific start to the year for live-services. Whether you were disappointed by the news that Back 4 Blood developers would be moving on after only 15 months since its debut, or that Rumbleverse...
Respawn Entertainment has high hopes for the future of Apex Legends, saying it hopes the game will last as long as classic PC shooter Counter-Strike. In an interview with GameSpot, Apex Legends design director Evan Nikolich said the game could one day be relinquished by Respawn but kept going by fans out of pure love for it. "There could be a point, and I don't know when the inflection point will be, where the game is just pushed off and then players are playing it because the hobby is so enjoyable, and there's such a coloured and deep history to Apex that people just keep playing it," said Nikolich. "I often talk about how, one day, I want to have somebody teach their kid to play Apex. I played Counter-Strike in college, and that...
Ninja Gaiden Black is my favorite action game of all time, so if you describe something as “a hybrid slasher/shooter from the makers of Ninja Gaiden” like Wanted: Dead does on the back of its box, you’ve got my both attention and hopes up right out of the gate. But as quick as they rose, they fell even faster, because Wanted: Dead is a bad game even removed from any comparison to Ninja Gaiden. Its story is nonsense, the voice acting is some of the worst I’ve heard in a modern game, its difficulty is all over the place, it frequently crashes, and even though its combat is the best part, it still feels sluggish and poorly balanced between your ranged and melee options. If you look super closely, you can see tiny bits of some of the ideas...

Just before my group of four young astronauts with major, personal conflicts of interest blast off to the red planet, I'm assured by our team leader that, while some corners had to be cut to get our ship spaceworthy, it should do its job just fine. And it does… kind of. Which is a great metaphor for Deliver Us Mars as a whole. This platforming, puzzle-solving, interplanetary adventure is trying to do too much with too little, and it ends up touching down just North of adequate. The backstory for our plucky, rebellious, sometimes even endearing hero, Kathy, is that she was separated from her father Isaac just before he boarded a colonization mission bound for Mars. Years later, she's been through astronaut school on a climate-ravaged...
The mighty Kemono – the creatures inhabiting Wild Hearts, the new monster hunting game by Koei Tecmo and EA – aren’t easy. In fact, they’re hard enough that even one of the game's directors has trouble defeating his own creations. "I have quite a lot of difficulties," Wild Hearts co-director Takuto Edagawa says with a laugh. "When we look at [the toughest Kemono in the game], those ones I die [against]. If I'm not properly prepared, I'll go in and I'll be killed." But luckily for Edagawa, a helping hand is always close by — literally. His development partner, co-director Kotaro Hirata, smiles and says, "I'm totally awesome at [Wild Hearts], actually." The Omega Force division of Koei Tecmo is primarily known for Dynasty Warriors...

Warzone 2.0 Updates Ashika Island is a smaller, Japanese-themed map that is located in the Asia Pacific region. Even though this is a smaller map, Ashika has waterways for...
We're two weeks away from Destiny 2: Lightfall, the next major expansion for Bungie's ongoing first-person shooter. Leading up to release, the developers are sharing some goals for the future of Destiny. On Bungie.net, the studio acknowledged that its stready stream of content updates has made the game feel like a known quantity to its dedicated player base. "But amid this quality and consistency, Destiny 2 can sometimes feel too predictable," Destiny 2's Joe Blackburn wrote. "While some consistency is necessary for us to be able to regularly update the game and prevent players from having to relearn Destiny every three months, as well as to maintain our team health and sustainability, it is clear that too much predictability has...
Developer Dambuster Studios and publisher Deep Silver have announced that Dead Island 2’s release date has been moved up by one week, from April 28 to April 21. “You asked for it, you got it. Dead Island 2 went gold and it's coming out a week early. See you in HELL-A on April 21, 2023,” revealed the Dead Island official Twitter account. Dead Island 2 was originally scheduled to be released on February 3, but was later delayed to April 28. Now, players will get their hands on the game a little earlier than expected. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was also recently announced to be delayed to April 28 from its original March 17 release date. With Dead Island 2 moving up a week, the two games won’t launch on the same day anymore. Dead...
The latest figures from The NPD Group reveal that Dead Space is the best-selling new video game in the U.S. in January. The well-received remake of the 2008 survival horror was kept away from the top spot by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which enjoys its fourth consecutive month as the best-selling game in the U.S. Dead Space was joined in the top 20 best-sellers by three other new games: Fire Emblem Engage (No.5), Forspoken (No.7), and One Piece Odyssey (No.9). While there were four new releases among the top 10, U.S. consumer spending on video game software, hardware, and accessories dropped year-on-year by 5%, according to NPD’s Mat Piscatella. “Video game hardware spending was flat, while content (-5%) and accessories (-14%)...
Do you dream of the chance to get dropkicked by a lava-monkey the size of a building? Of course you do, and goodness gracious is Wild Hearts excited to make that dream a reality. Omega Force and EA’s take on co-op monster hunting is a remarkably familiar one, mixing on-the-fly building mechanics into enormous elemental animal fights across its gorgeous feudal Japanese locations. But even when its crystal clear inspirations can sometimes lead to comparisons that aren’t always flattering for Wild Hearts, the few dozen hours I’ve spent with it so far have been a ton of fun, and I’m excited to keep grinding for materials as I progress toward the end of its campaign and into the endgame. Let me be perfectly blunt: it’s nearly impossible to...

Double Fine PsychOdyssey, the 32-part, 20+ hour documentary that chronicles the development of Psychonauts 2, is now available for free for everyone on YouTube. Double Fine PsychOdyssey was created by 2 Player Productions and Double Fine and follows a similar and equally as wonderful documentary that was released for Double Fine's Broken Age. It's an extensive, very rare look behind the curtain of game development and you can check it out now by clicking here. "Ten years after the release of their flagship video game Psychonauts, Double Fine Productions returns to its most celebrated franchise with Psychonauts 2," The official description reads. An Easter Egg on a screen near the end of Hi-Fi Rush very well may be teasing The Evil Within 3. As reported by GamesRadar, this screen in question is visible for less than a second during a cinematic that plays before Track 11: The Needle Drop and takes place in an elevator. You can see the screen in the image below or in action courtesy of YouTuber Shirrako, and can see, on the bottom, it says, "Sequel to popular survival horror game franchise announced." Now, this could just be a fun nod to The Evil Within and not the tease of an announcement, as there are other Easter Eggs to the franchise in Hi-Fi Rush, including robots who look just like Sebastian Castellanos and Joseph Oda. That being said, it is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it...
Warning: This article contains some NSFW references. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that certain NSFW community mods were accidentally added to The Witcher 3's next-gen update and that it is working to remove them from the game. As reported by Kotaku, Reddit users and other players began noticing that certain characters, including the "crones from Crookback Bog and the bruxas (the only women NPCs that regularly do full-frontal without any obscuring shots or panties) have landing strip-styled pubic hair and visible labia." Also noted by Kotaku, the original version of The Witcher 3 had the same nudity, but the women had "no visible genitals, just a sort of smoothed over, Barbie doll area." CD Projekt Red commented on the matter and...

This week’s Unlocked column is a little different. As a seasoned Apex Legends player, I’ve been playing the game ever since it was released. With its biggest update ever on the horizon, I spoke with the developers to see what’s in store. Apex Legends turns four this year and ever since it hot-dropped on February 4th 2019, it’s held its ground as one of the best battle royales in the market. It set the bar for mechanics every battle royale should have, such as the intricate ping system, resurrection for eliminated teammates, and Evo armor that evolves into higher tiered protection as you do more damage. But Apex has had its ups and downs since launch. In recent seasons it’s been very apparent that Apex needed an overhaul to its game...

The English voice actor for Genshin Impact character Tighnari, Elliot Gindi, has been accused of grooming underage fans, transphobic behavior, and emotional abuse by moderators of his Twitch and Discord server. Gindi has since admitted that numerous screenshotted chatlogs demonstrating him engaging in such behavior are real, and both he and Genshin developer HoYoverse have issued statements. The chatlogs were posted to Twitter by FretCore and phiotan, two of Gindi's moderators. FretCore shared a 21-page Google Doc containing screenshots that show multiple victims coming forward to mods about Gindi's behavior, which included asking for inappropriate photos and videos, pursuing relationships with underage individuals, sending sexual...
The Division 2 development team has notified players that a recent update has caused an error that is now preventing the team from updating the game at all. The Division 2 development team took to Twitter to explain the unfortunate situation, saying it was caused when they were trying to deal with a localization issue. While they were fixing that particular problem, another one popped up that "brought down the build generation system for The Division 2." This, in turn, broke the whole updating system. "Dear Agents, last week, we shared news that the season would be delayed due to a localization issue," The Division 2 development team wrote. "This past Saturday, in the process of creating the update which would resolve the issue, we...
After years of smaller updates, Team Fortress 2 is set to get a major update this summer that will add items, maps, taunts, Steam Workshop Creators' content, and much more. The Team Fortress 2 team shared the update in a blog, and addressed it mainly to Steam Workshop Creators. "Steam Workshop Creators, can we have your attention please," The blog reads. "The following message is so urgent, so time-sensitive, we made the executive decision to skip TikTok and Twitter entirely and break the glass on the most bleeding-edge communication technology available. Welcome to the future. Welcome… to a 'blog-post.'" After the funny intro, it went on to confirm that, while "the last few Team Fortress summer events have only been item updates,"...
A good action game lives and dies by the strength of its combat, true, but combat mechanics are just one part of the equation. Equally important are the enemies that put those combat mechanics to the test. And so one of the things that I was most curious about during my visit to Respawn was the enemy design of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Fortunately, I had Design Director Jason de Heras and Production Director Kasumi Shishido to walk me through a handful of new enemy types that are determined to stand in the way of Cal Kestis. Droids Early on the team at Respawn knew that they wanted to incorporate more droids into the fold as far as enemies go. And true enough, there are tons of droids to fight against in Jedi Survivor, from the weak...
