Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3 remake won't just be for PlayStation 5. Following today's PlayStation Showcase stream, Konami put out a press release that also confirmed that the new project — titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater — will also be coming to Xbox consoles and PC. This is big news for Xbox and PC fans, not the least because Metal Gear Solid has historically had strong ties to Sony. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater was initially confirmed for PlayStation 5 during today's PlayStation Showcase, with confirmation that it would be coming to other platforms revealed later. First revealed in a CG trailer during the PlayStation Showcase, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (pronounced "Metal Gear Solid Delta") is the first proper Metal...
Following its reveal at today’s PlayStation Showcase, Konami has released the first screenshots for its Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which it has titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. The four screenshots mainly focus on the remake’s environmental details, from the texture of the leaves to the way that the sun beams through the jungle canopy. A Soviet soldier does appear in one screenshot, with another featuring a ferocious looking crocodile. The original game was a Cold War-era spy thriller set in a fictional jungle environment in the USSR. One of its main conceits was that Snake had to eat food to survive, forcing him to hunt the local wildlife. In Metal Gear Solid 3, crocodiles are some of the most ferocious enemies in the game...
Even though the trailer for Konami’s remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is just over two minutes long, it’s packed with easter eggs and nods to the original game if you look hard enough. Some of them may be blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, but don’t worry! We’re here to help you spot them all. These are the 11 details you may have missed when watching the trailer. Shagohod Incoming One of the coolest details was just under a minute into the trailer, when the green parrot (more on that later) is swooping above the canopy of the forest, a dead frog in its claws. But it’s what’s in the distance that’s interesting, because when lightning lights up the sky it’s possible to make out the shape of the Shagohod being airlifted by several Mil Mi-24...
Revenant Hill, the next game from the creators of Night In The Woods, is headed to PlayStation 5. During today's PlayStation showcase, The Glory Society, a team made up of two Night in the Woods co-creators, revealed Revenant Hill. Featuring an art style that seems to mirror Night in the Woods (the main character Twigs even looks like a version of Night in The Woods' Mae who walks on all four legs), Revenant Hill seems to promise more of the exploration-based gameplay that Night in the Woods was based on. According to the PlayStation Blog, the game takes place in 1919. "After the barn he was living in burns down, Twigs the cat takes up residence in a wet log near an abandoned graveyard," the blog reads. "When the owl from the next...
Capcom has unveiled new gameplay footage of the PS VR version of the Resident Evil 4 remake at today's PlayStation Showcase. A release date, however, was not announced, which Capcom merely saying that it's currently in development. The new trailer showed off some pretty standard Resident Evil fare, with Dr. Salvador coming at Leon with a chainsaw. Elaborating further in a blog post, Edvin Edsö, promotion producer for Resident Evil, called it the "ultimate immersion experience." "Because the game takes place in VR, the perspective changes from third person to a fully immersive first-person view," he added. "From Leon’s point of view, you can really take in the details and atmosphere of the environment. Resident Evil 4 Remake VR was...
During today's PlayStation Showcase, another new game in the Five Nights at Freddy's series emerged. It appears to be a direct sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, and is aptly just called Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2. We didn't see much in the way of gameplay for Help Wanted 2, likely to preserve the scares to come. But we can draw some clues from the first Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted. The first Help Wanted game came out in 2019 for VR and later regular consoles, and was a series of mini-games featuring characters and situations from the Five Nights at Freddy's series. The main series of Five Nights games tends to feature players surviving five nights working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria while a host...
Street Fighter 6 is coming in just a few days but until now we didn't know much about the story mode, until now. A new trailer at the Playtation Showcase showed off an all-new Story Mode. The story looks like it follows an up-and-coming fighter as they climb the ranks to become a legend. There are a lot of familiar faces, of course, but it looks like there are a couple of new characters snuck in there as well. Street Fighter 6 comes out June 2 on Xbox Series X | S, Playstation 5 and PC. Jackie Thomas is the freelance computing queen. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next mainline game in the series, has officially been dated for Oct. 12. Ubisoft announced the news at today's PlayStation Showcase, although it was leaked earlier in the day by a few Japanese retailers. It also got a new trailer, which showed off some new abilities and some familiar ones as well. As Playstation elaborates further in a blog post published after the Showcase reveal, one of the new features will be what's called Assassin's Focus, which will allow you to mark and assassinate several targets in a row. There's also the Pole Vault, which Ubisoft teases as "brand-new parkour ingredient." Mirage will see the player stepping into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character introduced in Valhalla)...
A year-and-a-half after its original announcement, Alan Wake 2 resurfaced at today's PlayStation Showcase, where it received a new trailer and numerous details. The new trailer featured the titular hero, Alan Wake, returning, but he seems to be trapped in the Dark Place. He stars alongside Saga Anderson, an FBI agent and second playable protagonist who seems to be investigating some unusual circumstances that Alan is also involved in. The story once again takes place in Bright Falls, where Saga begins to uncover pages of a horror story seemingly written by Alan that begins to come true around her. Alan, who went missing 13 years ago, is simultaneously trying to write his way out of a nightmare he's trapped in. Along with the...
We already knew that Croteam was working on a sequel to its 2014 puzzle game The Talos Principle and that it would arrive on PS5, in addition to PC and Xbox Series X/S. Today, we learned that the game would be released this year. Announced at today's State of Play Showcase, The Talos Principle 2 is a puzzle game that will greatly expand "the first game's philosophical themes and stunning environments with increasingly mind-bending challenges," according to the game's Steam page. The Talos Principle 2 was announced back in 2021, and while details on the game since its reveal have been slim. A PlayStation Blog post on the game notes that The Talos Pattern 2 will take "a giant leap forward" for the franchise, which currently has two...
Nearly 20 years after its original release, Konami is officially remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the PlayStation 5 (Update: It has also been confirmed for Xbox and PC). Announced during today’s PlayStation Showcase, the new Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater and looks to be a faithful remake of Hideo Kojima’s original game. (Δ is pronounced “Delta”.) It was revealed in a brief CGI teaser trailer in which the camera pans through a familiar jungle landscape and eventually comes to a rest on Snake amid Cynthia Harrell’s rendition of the classic theme song. Additional info released after the event confirmed that the remake will feature the original voices, presumably including David Hayter as...
PlayStation finally pulled back the curtain on its PS5 lineup for this year and beyond in today's PlayStation Showcase 2023. Sony showed off a ton of upcoming games for PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2, including the reveal of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, gameplay for Spider-Man 2, a first proper look at Dragon's Dogma 2, a release date for Alan Wake 2, and a lot more. Read on to learn everything announced in today's PlayStation Showcase 2023. Spider-Man 2 Gets Lengthy Gameplay Showcase While we didn't get a release date for Spider-Man 2, we did get a lengthy gameplay showcase featuring both Spider-Men: Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Pete's new moveset revolves around the Symbiote Suit, while we saw some flashy new moves from Miles, too...
Arrowhead officially announced a sequel to its 2015 top-down shooter Helldivers, and it's coming to PS5 and PC later this year. Little else was revealed about Helldivers 2, including a release date beyond 2023. It also debuted a brief trailer, which showed off the original's popular four-player co-op. The trailer went with a third-person experience, as opposed to the top-down view of the original. Helldivers took place in what's called "Super Earth," and the player acts as a citizen that joins a commando team tasked with fighting aliens in various biomes. It immediately drew comparisons to Starship Troopers, the 1959 novel of the same name and 1997 Paul Verhoeven film adaptation, even opening with something of an homage to the...
Ghostrunner 2 is on the way, and its protagonist now has his very own ninja motorcycle. The sequel to One More Level's action-platformer was shown for the first time during today's PlayStation Showcase, with vehicular combat prominently featured. The official release claims that it will "up the ante from the original in every conceivable way" as Jack explores the wasteland beyond the Dharma Tower. In addition to the gameplay reveal, 505 Games also released numerous screenshots, which you can see below. Originally released in late 2020, the first Ghostrunner turned heads with its neon-drenched visuals and fast-paced action. Our review called it a short-lived but memorable action game that was a "speedrunner's dream." Ghostrunner 2...
Blizzard has just made a major change to how World of Warcraft Classic: Wrath of the Lich King's economy works, and the community is completely furious. Yesterday, it introduced WoW Tokens into Wrath Classic. On its face, the announcement looks relatively innocuous: "The WoW Token is now available in Wrath of the Lich King Classic," it reads. "This in-game item is a great way to exchange gold for game time in a convenient and secure way." Blizzard first introduced the WoW Token to World of Warcraft retail back in 2015, during the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Here's how it works: players can buy a WoW Token with real money, and then sell the WoW Token in World of Warcraft to other players for in-game gold, effectively allowing them...
Embracer Group, the massive games holding company that's been gobbling up developers, publishers, and properties left and right over the last decade, just saw a major deal fall through unexpectedly at the last minute — one that would have possibly made the company billions. During its full-year earnings call today, Embracer Group explained the rather unusual situation, specifically because of its impact on the company's projected earnings. According to Embracer, it had a "verbal commitment" for a major deal made in October 2022 which would have included "more than USD 2 billion in contracted development revenue over a period of six years." The partnership supposedly involved "many of the highest rated global advisories onboard with...
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been rebooted again and is now in its conception phase. Furthermore, the game will not be shown at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event on June 12 and there are no plans to remake any other game in the series. Ubisoft provided an update about its Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake project since it was moved over to its Montreal studio from its Pune and Mumbai studios in India last year. “In terms of the development stage, we're in conception right now. Since we took over the project, we've been looking at feedback from the community and finding our own way of delivering the game,” explained Ubisoft producer Jean-Francois Naud in an interview posted to Ubisoft's blog. He continued...
Sega Europe has laid off 121 employees at Relic Entertainment, while blaming the “incredibly difficult” decision on “external factors” affecting the games industry. “Relic Entertainment and SEGA Europe want to share the difficult news that our studio has been impacted by layoffs, affecting 121 employees,” read a Twitter statement from the Vancouver-based studio. “This comes at a time when external factors are challenging our industry more than ever, and we made this decision to restructure our organisation to ensure maximum focus is placed on our core franchises.” The newly announced layoffs affect a significant proportion of the studio’s workforce, spanning from concept artists to audio and VFX designers. Over the years, the...
May 18 marked the 12th annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a day to celebrate and raise awareness for accessibility across varying industries. Not only does it help to highlight new innovations, it also continuously reinforces the notion that disabled people need assistive tech to thrive. For games, studios regularly refine and create new options and design practices seeking to eliminate as many barriers as possible. 2023 is already off to a strong start, with options and design practices pushing accessibility beyond some of last year’s biggest hits. It’s quickly becoming apparent that disabled players no longer need to hope for accessibility to be included in a game, but rather can comfortably join in the excitement of...

Total War: Pharaoh will take players to the turbulent Egyptian New Kingdom period where they'll determine the fate of three great cultures as they fight for survival amid the Bronze Age collapse. "There are few periods more iconic than Ancient Egypt; fraught with political intrigue, cataclysmic events, and grand war campaigns, it's the perfect setting for a Total War title," said game director Todor Nikolov. "As Pharaoh, you must save Egypt from the cusp of destruction and guide your people through the calamitous Bronze Age collapse. It is up to you to either survive or...
Perhaps the ultimate dream of a ‘90s Metalhead nerd, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is the fusion of retro-style first-person shooters with the beloved sci-fi universe that birthed the term "grimdark." It gets a lot of fun mileage purely from combining the aesthetics, sense of story, and level design of a game like Duke Nukem 3D or the original Doom with the rich library of character designs that 40K has built up in its 35 or so years of history. You're a Space Marine Sternguard, a decorated elite who doesn't say much, and you're on loan to the scary and very mean imperial Inquisition. Your job is to kill everything between you and… whatever objective you're currently after. Don't think too hard – there's not much of a plot here, just a...
The pitch for After Us sounds like a perfect blend of post-apocalyptic restoration, a la Terra Nil, and classic, story-driven 3D platforming in the vein of Psychonauts. In reality, this lumbering beast is often a bit too directionless for its own good, leaning heavily on unwieldy platforming and mind-numbing combat to pad out the time between tearful but brief reunions with the various spirits of the forest you’ll need to restore before you reach the credits. In theory, that kind of light, wordless storytelling is forgivable for a game like this – assuming its platforming is tight enough to carry it. But in this case, it’s aggressively inconsistent. The premise of After Us is pretty simple: You play as an extra-powerful forest spirit...
