Developer Free Lives has returned to the pectoral-popping embrace of its much-loved 2015 hit to deliver one final update: Broforce Forever, which is packed with new bros, new modes, new moves, and one final batch of bug fixes.
What drove the studio to put together a surprise update around seven years after we thought we’d seen the last of Broforce? Who decides which bros make the cut in the final product? And can we expect more from the series and, dare we say it, Broforce 2? We spoke with Broforce creative director Evan Greenwood on the motivation to return to Broforce, the hilarious process for adding new bros to the game, and the possible future of the series.
IGN: It’s been a long time since Broforce news; what was the...
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC is for all intents and purposes unplayable without an SSD, experts have revealed.
Digital Foundry’s John Linneman discussed the game’s performance when running off an actual PlayStation 4 hard-drive on a machine just above minimum spec. As the gameplay shows, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Part breaks down during its famous level-shifting mechanic.
Developer Insomniac and publisher Sony drew criticism after Rift Apart’s PC specs were announced in the run up to the game’s launch. The specs confirmed Rift Apart does not require an SSD to run, despite this being a central part of the original PlayStation 5 version's marketing.

In recent conversations with fellow MMO fanatics, we always seem to come around to lamenting how the genre has reached something of an evolutionary dead end in the mainstream. With World of Warcraft leading the way to nowhere, the style of the developer-curated world we often refer to as a "theme park"-style game has struggled to do anything truly new since Blizzard's powerhouse came to dominate the scene in 2004. It's an entrenched set of conventions that rely on heavy phasing and instancing, limiting how much a massively multiplayer online game can take advantage of being, well, massive, multiplayer, and online.
But before Azeroth opened its gates, a spreadsheet-laden spaceship game from a small studio in Iceland went all-in on the...
The best CRPGs are about to change because Baldur’s Gate 3 is launching soon, and there’s no conceivable way that it doesn’t just flat-out ruin all of our spare time, our families, our work/life balance, and our sense of reality. It’s also going to have a big old impact on any list of the best […]

Armored Core 6 is coming, and it’s coming soon. For those about to mech, you might be wondering what the best mech games are that you can jump into in the meantime. After all, patience may well be a virtue, but in this modern age of convenience and a frightening number of games, we say […]

The developer of Remnant 2 has promised to improve the game’s performance following its huge launch.
The well-received looter-shooter soulslike is currently the second best-selling game on Steam, up 14 places since last week. Remnant 2 has enjoyed a significant launch on Valve’s platform, with close to double the amount of concurrent players than Remnant: From the Ashes had at launch. At the time of publication, Remnant 2 was the 12th most-played game on Steam with 53,848 concurrent players and a peak today of 82,872.
Developer Gunfire Games said it was “humbled” and “grateful” for the overwhelmingly positive response from the community, while acknowledging a “small portion” of players have encountered some bugs.
“We know that...
Tekken 8 fans used Cheat Engine to dig into the game’s files, uncovering a list of potentially unannounced playable characters.
Players scraped the build used for the recent PlayStation 5 Tekken 8 closed network test, which ran from July 21 to 24, and took to Discord to report their findings. An image showing a list of character files that includes those already announced also mentions unannounced characters such as Shaheen (Tekken 7), Raven (Tekken 5), Zafina (Tekken 6), Yoshimitsu (Tekken), Steve (Tekken 4), and Alisa (Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion).
Fans currently believe this leaked is incomplete because it does not include series mainstays such as Kuma. But it’s a solid indication of what to expect from the fighting game upon...
Activision brought Steam multiplayer for 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 offline to combat hackers.
TechCrunch reports hackers were infecting players with a worm that spreads automatically in online lobbies from one infected player to another. As Techcrunch points out, this suggests hackers have exploiting bugs in Modern Warfare 2 to execute malicious code on players’ computers.
“Multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) on Steam was brought offline while we investigate reports of an issue,” Activision said in a tweet.
Despite being 14 years old, Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 retains a modest fanbase that sees hundreds of concurrents on Steam.
Older Call of Duty games on Xbox 360 received a surprise shot in...
Modern Warfare 3 is set to be revealed via an event in Call of Duty: Warzone, Activision has said.
Activision has used its battle royale to reveal new Call of Duty games in the past, and it plans to use Warzone once again for the worldwide reveal of what the publisher is still calling Call of Duty 2023, despite acknowledging the leak of the Modern Warfare 3 logo.
“Drop into Call of Duty: Warzone to experience the worldwide reveal for Call of Duty 2023 in a limited-time event,” reads a note on the Call of Duty blog.
“Join the ranks of Shadow Company to take on Konni forces and secure the chemical weapon threat before it’s too late. Stay tuned to Call of Duty channels for more details about the upcoming reveal.”
That’s all we have...
Thank your own personal deity, it's Friday. I'm going to keep this intro brief for a number of important reasons. Firstly, because I have to go preorder myself one of these Spider-Man 2 DualSenses (because they're apt to sell out). And secondly, because I need to go play more Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC, a game you should totally look into if high-end graphics are your bag.

Call of Duty is known to have unique and unexpected skins. From the recent The Boys crossover event, to a feline Operator cosmetic set, Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 lobbies are filled with outlandish characters. And now, players can expect to see Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg enter the fray.
The official Call of Duty Twitter account shared images of both artists. Minaj can be seen holding a bright pink gun, while Snoop Dogg is holding a blue and gold rifle. Information regarding the cost of the skins is currently unavailable, but they are set to release with the Season 5 update launching on August 2.
According to the official account, the two musicians are part of a 50-year celebration of Hip Hop. Alongside the skins, players can...
F1 Manager 2023 takes all the excitement of a race weekend and shifts the focus to behind the pit wall. If you’re a fan of the Codemasters F1 games, you know how stressful the tight turns on some of these street circuits are. I can't tell you how many times a qualifying lap has been ruined by a "light touch" of the wall at Monaco. In F1 Manager, that's not my problem; my only job is to tell the driver to watch their tires, fuel consumption, and about a dozen other metrics – on not just one F1 car, but two. F1 Manager 2023 fixes minor mistakes from the series debut last year and adds new ways to play, and it remains a compelling motorsports management simulation that’s committed to helping you grow both your knowledge and love of the...
The first thing you might ask yourself when you start playing One Punch Man: World is -- why does it take so many darn punches to put down basic enemies? It says “One Punch” right there in the title. The reason for this was not made clear during my recent 30-minute play session. Fortunately for One Punch Fans, you’ll find an action game that looks and plays like an interactive version of the anime. Key moments have been accurately recreated in-engine, and you’ll even be able to expand on what was seen in the show. At a glance, you might even think you’re watching the anime instead of playing the game.
My time in One Punch Man: World began with a scene of our hero, Saitama, being rudely awakened from deep sleep in his own bed by...

Melee-like multiplayer brawler. It's due out later this year for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

The Payday 3 closed beta is available on PC via Steam and Xbox Series X and S via the Xbox Insider Hub App only, publisher Deep Silver and developer Starbreeze have announced.
The co-op heist first-person shooter runs its closed beta from August 2 to 7. Microsoft said space is available and offered on a first-come first-served basis. "We plan to open more space through the beta weekend so if you are unable to join, please check back later to join," Microsoft added.
There’s no word of a closed beta on PlayStation 5. Payday 3 launches day-and-date on Game Pass.
In the closed beta you can play as Payday’s four original clown-masked characters (Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wolf), in the heist No Rest for the Wicked. Deep Silver said this...
Microsoft has announced the Games with Gold lineup for August 2023, the final set of games to launch under the Games With Gold banner before the promotion comes to an end in September.
Little-known 2021 3D action platformer Blue Fire and 2020 arcade racer Inertial Drift are available to download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S by those who have an Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscription from August 1 to 31.
Blue Fire and Inertial Drift will go down as the last ever Games with Gold titles, as the long-running promotion ends September 1. Meanwhile, Xbox Live Gold ends September 14, over 20 years after it first launched, to be replaced by Game Pass Core.
Core includes access to online console multiplayer and gives...
The extraction shooter is blowing up, and upcoming release Hawked might be the most approachable shot at the PvPvE genre yet. Where other games focus on an aggressively tight and hardcore experience, Hawked is importing some game design from the more approachable battle royales in order to get you into rounds of treasure-hunting mayhem with much less commitment.
The setup is simple. You and a team of friends pop up on an island overrun with lizard monsters to recover valuable seemingly-magical artifacts from the ancient ruins there before the lizards—or the other treasure hunters—can do the same. Taking out camps of lizards lets you loot new weapons and gear for this trip out, while going around solving puzzles gets you the key pieces...
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most-anticipated role-playing video games of 2023, but fans of developer Larian’s previous, much-loved Divinity: Original Sin series are wondering whether its story will ever be continued. The answer: a Divinity: Original Sin sequel is a definite, although don’t hold your breath for an announcement.
In an interview with IGN, Larian boss Swen Vincke confirmed the studio will return to the world of Divinity: Original Sin and continue its story, but not before staff have taken a well-earned break following the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 next month.
“It's [Divinity: Original Sin] our own universe we built, so we're definitely gonna get back there at some point,” Vincke said. “We will get back there at some...
From Software has released Elden Ring’s first patch in four months, targeting PvP balance changes among other areas of the game.
The patch, which brings Elden Ring up to version 1.10, is out now across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Steam. As always, online play requires the player to apply this update.
The update is not particularly dramatic, but it makes a raft of PvP-exclusive balance changes that are worth noting:
Increased poise damage of all weapons and some spells and incantations.
Increased poise when attacking with some skills, spells, incantations and some types of weapon attacks that generates poise.
Added damage reduction when performing attacks with some skills, spells and incantations...
Gunfire Games has said it is still working to address a PlayStation 5 friend invite issue that has blighted Remnant 2’s launch on the console.
Remnant 2 is meant to let players invite friends from within the Friends menu under the System tab, but for some reason this screen was absent from the PS5 version of the game.
In a tweet, Gunfire said it had identified the issue and planned to release a fix for it soon. The first step is the addition of a friend’s list players cannot currently interact with. Gunfire said it’s working on making it so players can invite friends from that list. “Sorry for the trouble!” Gunfire said.
The well-received looter-shooter soulslike is currently the third best-selling game on Steam, although earlier...
Blizzard has told Diablo 4 players to stop using game-modifying software or risk their account suffering a permanent ban.
In a message posted to the Blizzard forums, Diablo community chief Adam Fletcher made clear the developer’s position on unauthorised modifications, many of which it said are used to cheat. Fletcher even called out one piece of software, called TurboHUD4, which has proved a popular option among the community, especially hardcore players pushing against the outer edges of Diablo 4’s endgame.
Here’s Blizzard’s statement in full:
“We are committed to keeping the world of Sanctuary a safe and fair place for all players, and our Game Security team constantly monitors for cheats and unauthorized modifications.
“All...
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons teaches an important lesson: when a strange man walks into your office carrying one of your friends, tells you he’s the new mayor, and that he needs your help to bring peace back to your fallen city, don’t believe him. It also teaches that melding roguelike elements and tag-team combat (a la Marvel vs Capcom) can make for a great foundation for an otherwise old-school side-scrolling beat 'em up. Of course, without being particularly remarkable in any other way, and occasionally just straight-up bad, there may not be much more to learn that other recent games couldn’t also teach you more effectively.
Compared to the likes of Streets of Rage 4 and River City Girls 2, DDG’s combat is very simple...
When I spent an arm, a leg, and a kidney on this RTX 4090, the first thing I pondered was which games to throw at it first. Obviously, Steam is littered with PC exclusive graphical delights, but I developed a weird interest in seeing how far ported PlayStation (launch) exclusives could be pushed.
With the glaring exception of The Last of Us Part 1, ported PS Studios AAAs have been more or less mind-blowing on a decent rig. (Horizon, Spider-Man, and God of War, I’m looking and drooling in your particular directions.) As you can imagine, my ears pricked up to Lombax length at the announcement of a PC bound Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart—one of the prettiest jewels in the PS crown.
Why so? Because it, along with Housemarque’s Returnal, are...
Congratulations to the Destiny 2 game community, which after several days of hard work and enthusiasm has managed to make Glorbo happen.
If that above sentence made absolutely no sense to you, don't worry: it's (mostly) not supposed to. You see, Glorbo isn't real. But it's quickly turning into a real trend that MMO community members are using to trick AI websites into writing about fake trends in their beloved games, effectively exposing websites that are using AI to scrub communities and generate nonsensical headlines.
The return of Glorbo
The whole thing started last week with World of Warcraft, when a community member came up with the genius idea to trick AI websites into writing about a fake topic by making a Reddit post...
Some players are accidentally skipping Remnant 2's post-credits scene. Beating the game's final boss will trigger a short cutscene before causing credits to roll just like they would in any other game. However, skipping the credits will skip the post-credits scene as well.
Spoiler Warning: The remainder of this article contains spoilers for Remnant 2's ending and post-credits scene.
The game ends with the player character unable to defeat the Root, the game's antagonist, as it regenerates after being killed. With the Root threatening to consume all of reality, Clementine takes The Index from The Keeper to completely recreate reality without the Root. The cutscene shows familiar characters and locations turning into beams of light...
Resident Evil 4 Remake is one of the best games of 2023 so far, but now fans have created another take on the survival horror classic. This time, Resident Evil 4 is now a 2D run-and-gun shooter.
First spotted by PCGamesN, Resident Evil 4 2D Edition is a side-scrolling reimagining of Leon S. Kennedy's most iconic adventure. The game was built in GZDoom, a modding tool that's popular in the Doom community. User DooMero is the developer of this mod, and they said it's dedicated to the entire Doom community. You can watch the gameplay for yourself over on YouTube, or check out a few screenshots in the tweet below.
Over on Doomworld, DooMero previously explained that this mod has been in development since 2016, but kept getting put on...
In the June 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Sarah Bond opened her segment by promising "a deep dive into one of the most important RPGs ever made– Starfield."
That is quite the claim. It’s true that Starfield is looking to be an absolutely massive game, perhaps one of the largest in scope we’ve ever seen. And it’s also true that between Skyrim’s continued dominance in the public mindshare and the impressive showing in the recent Direct, excitement for Starfield is at an all-time high.
But while the bespoke created content in Starfield looks promising, what really could give it limitless potential is the modding scene. I spoke to several high-profile modders of Skyrim to better understand their community...
The massive multiplayer beat ‘em up RPG Dungeon Fighter Online officially introduced a new class to its roster of characters. Dungeon Fighter Online is a 2D, anime art-style game that combines the high-energy action of old-school side-scrolling brawlers with some classic RPG elements. Since its launch in 2015, DFO has garnered a loyal global user base. The game features detailed customization options and various dungeons and raids for players to take on cooperatively. Players can also opt to dive in solo, but overcoming some of the more powerful bosses may require strategic teamwork for those who want to succeed.
Dungeon Fighter Online is known for its distinct combat system, and fast-paced side-scrolling action combat, where players...
Sony has announced August’s lineup of PlayStation Plus games, all of which are available to download from August 1 to September 4.
The highlight here is Sony’s own Dreams, which launches into PlayStation Plus a month before developer Media Molecule ends support for the user-generated creation game. Media Molecule, by the way, has moved onto “an exciting new project”.
To coincide with the launch of Dreams into PlayStation Plus, Media Molecule’s latest game, Tren, will be available to play inside of it. Sony describes Tren as “a nostalgic adventure that puts you in the driving seat of a remarkable toy train, and tells a personal tale about growing up – and the transformative power of play”.
Isometric action adventure Death’s Door and...
