It also fixes some possible future-compatibility issues we discovered. Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, we can’t fix it!To get the pre-release, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “pre-releases”, check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots”, select “1.7.10-pre4″ and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the...
Hello! Thanks for all the questions you’ve sent over regarding last week’s EULA post. It’s a lively topic.A group of Mojangstas met this morning to discuss the most common questions we received over the weekend. The following post is the result of that discussion.Though we’re happy to clarify, most of these points were mentioned in last week’s explanation of the EULA. Please give it a read before diving into this more detailed Q+A.Are any servers exempt to the EULA? No. It affects all servers and players equally.Do server hosts have a grace period to implement changes to their servers? Yes. All servers must comply with the EULA by August 1st, 2014.Can I charge for access to my server? Yes. How players join a server is up...
Hello!Let’s get one thing clear: we love it when Minecrafters host servers. Tiny or massive, running vanilla Minecraft or loads of mods, we think they’re all great. Playing with friends in persistent worlds is awesome. Everyone knows that.Over the past week there’s been lots of discussion about Minecraft servers and your right to monetise them. Legally, you are not allowed to make money from our products. There has been one exception to this rule so far – Minecraft videos. We’re about to make a second exception – Minecraft servers.Hosting servers can be expensive. We want to give hosts a way to cover their costs. That said, we don’t want our players to be exploited or to have a frustrating time unless they pay. The following...

The perceptive among you might have noticed the intimidating camera flash on Minecraft.net, followed by punchy message from Reset The Net. Here’s an explanation of what’s going on…I am extremely confused! A year ago today it was revealed that the NSA (National Security Agency) and GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) were intercepting data from phone and internet networks, and poking around in information stored by US technology companies. That’s extremely uncool.Should I click the massive “Click Here” button? Yes! We’ve put that on Minecraft.net today for a reason. Click it now, or read on for more information, then click it!Why should I care? The internet is a great thing, but the idea of companies operating closely...
We just published a pre-release version of Minecraft 1.7.10 that contains updates for Realms. All Realms related modules were moved into a separate library. How does this release affect you? If you are not playing on Realms, it does not change anything at all. The main advantage is that we don’t have to release new updates for Minecraft 1.7.x in the future, if we want to add new features to Realms. Some of the new features in Realms are: - player activity monitor - access to more server settings - improvements in Realms UI - some bugfixes - and many more…To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch...
Hello! We’re finally able to share news about Minecraft on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita.Apologies for the delay, but putting Minecraft on new consoles is a serious business. People have been using phrases like “logistically-speaking,” “infinite terrain,” and “platform parity” for months now. We’ve decided that letting current players upgrade for a small fee is the best way to show our appreciation. If you’re a new crafter who’s looking to pick up Minecraft in the next few months – welcome! We hope this post makes you happy!Owen – @bopogamelMinecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It’s been a while since the last snapshot, hope you didn’t miss us too much. We’ve been working a whole bunch on lots of internal rewriting (for plugin API, to make things easier for ourselves and to make things run so much more smoothly) but a lot of that isn’t in this version as it’s fairly unstable.Notable changes:New highly customisable terrain generation! (Create new world -> “World Type: Customized”) New customisable world borders! Check out the /worldborder command. Lots of bug fixes, performance gains and code cleaninguperizing. ???Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. Happy Monday everyone.Today’s the day of the Pocket Edition panel! As I mentioned last week, the Minecraft: Pocket Edition developers will be taking questions from this reddit thread and answering them LIVE on air. There’s still time to submit your questions, so over there and get inquisitive. It’s all in celebration of us reaching 20 million sales last week. We’ve actually reached 21 million to-date, but that’s not as catchy a milestone, so let’s roll with the 20 million for now.See you at 17:00 CEST – click the time to see when that is in your timezone.Owen – @bopogamelContinue reading...
Greetings! This Monday, Minecraft: Pocket Edition developers Johan, Tommaso and Jens will star in a panel broadcast live from the Mojang office. What will they be discussing? That’s up to you. We’re hoping to harness the collective power of our Pocket Edition players to submit questions to this reddit thread. Then we’ll pick the best ones and put them to the team live on air. We’re not sure of the exact time we’ll be streaming yet, but don’t worry if you miss the live show; the archived footage will be uploaded later on.This is all in celebration of hitting over 20m sales of Pocket Edition just a few days ago. As I mentioned in the Xbox 360 Edition post, we’re extremely grateful to all players for your dedication and creativity...
Two days ago a serious vulnerability (that’s been named “Heartbleed”) in the popular cryptographic software OpenSSL was made public. This weakness could potentially be exploited to steal information, such as login information, that normally would be protected by encryption. This software is used by roughly two thirds of the internet so a lot of services were or are at risk of being affected. What did Mojang do?As soon as we realized the severity of the exploit we decided to shut down all of our systems until a fix was available. This is why you were unable to log in yesterday. We then made sure that all of our services that use SSL no longer had this vulnerability before bringing them back online. We also updated all of our SSL...
Version 1.7.6 is now officially released. This version contains some bugfixes, a few updates to make Realms even better than it already is and prepares Minecraft for the renaming feature that will eventually allow you to rename your player. The renaming feature will not be available right now, but this is an important step towards it. We have also changed the internal handling of player skins to make use of our new, improved skin servers.Unfortunately the 1.7.6 version is not compatible with 1.7.5 (or earlier) servers. Please update your servers to 1.7.6, this is also an important step to prepare them for the upcoming 1.8 release. Servers should automatically update all player profiles to the new format, but please make sure that you...
Hello! As mentioned by the bigwigs at Microsoft, we’ve sold 12 million copies of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. Hoo! That’s loads! It might even be a record. We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all players on Microsoft’s console. Without your passion and creativity, Minecraft wouldn’t be anywhere near as significant as it is today. The same goes for anyone enjoying Minecraft on PC/Mac, Playstation 3, iOS and Android. You’re all equally nice. Our porters at 4J also deserve a mention for their skills. Keep it up, dudes!Owen and the MojangstasContinue reading...
That’s a lot of numbers, but now Minecraft 1.7.6 pre-release 1 is available for testing! This is a huge step towards one of the most requested features since the birth of Minecraft; Name changes! This version provides complete support for identifying players through unique IDs and not by names, so that no matter what a player is called they will remain banned/whitelisted/oped/etc on servers. People have come to us with a lot of questions about this service so here’s a few FAQ about name-changes:If I ban a player “Foo” and he changes name to “Bar”, will he stay banned? Yes. Same for whitelisted players and oped players. They also keep their inventory, pets, statistics and everything they own on a server. Can I steal somebody’s name...
The long-nosed villagers introduced in Minecraft beta 1.9 have become sentient. They have taken over our skin servers and content delivery networks (CDN), so unfortunately you will not be able to change your skins until we fix the problem. We are desperately trying our best to pull the plugs, but we should prepare ourselves to serve under our new villager overlords. Singularity may be upon us.// The Minecraft TeamContinue reading...

If nobody reports a bug, we can’t fix it!Survival changes:Changed minecart physics Made furnace minecart actually useful Improved the general mob AI And some surprises, try to find themMapmaker changes:Fixed some minor bugsBugs fixed in this snapshot:[Bug MC-47585] – Derailed minecarts sink into the ground [Bug MC-47695] – Minecart hitbox is too tall [Bug MC-50413] – Custom UUIDLeast/UUIDMost pair yields error [Bug MC-50452] – Rails don't render from below [Bug MC-50838] –...
Once again the majority of our time between this and the last snapshot has been spent on Plugin API related tasks (most notably inventory rewrite, block model format and block state concepting), and as such this is mostly a bugfix & mapmaker snapshot. Don’t worry, we have some cool survival plans soon! This snapshot also has the (hopefully-)final step towards supporting name changes in Minecraft. All server files that are intended to refer to players will be automatically changed to go by UUIDs, and you do not need to do anything. However, this does mean that any third party tool will not work on these files, and will need to be updated to work with them.Though names changes are technically supported in this snapshot, they will not...
