The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 is currently the butt of many internet jokes for its eye-popping visuals. Now, its chief developer has vowed to improve the quality of the game. In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, NetherRealm's Ed Boon said the Nintendo Switch version will "absolutely be getting an update". "And a number of the concerns of the issues that had come up will absolutely be addressed," he said. "It would have been ideal for us to have released the version that we absolutely wanted. But anything that we're finding a problem with is on our list and is going to be fixed." IGN’s review of the current-gen version of Mortal Kombat 1 returned an 8/10, but IGN’s review of the Switch version, ported by Shiver...
Tekken Ball is a fan-favourite mini-game that made its debut in 1998’s Tekken 3 before returning in 2012’s Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U edition. Now, over a decade later, Tekken Ball is back in Tekken 8. In Tekken Ball the player needs to deal damage to their opponent by either landing the ball on the ground in their opponent’s side of the beach volleyball court, or hitting their opponent with the ball itself. It was a fun distraction for Tekken veterans, and a go-to party game among local friends. Tekken Ball returns in Tekken 8, and the tweet below, from @Yellow_Motion, shows gameplay for the first time. Bandai Namco said Tekken Ball is featured inside the new Tekken Fight Lounge, a lobby where players can interact with one...
Destiny 2 developer Bungie is battling to fix a massive crafting glitch that let players make god-tier weapons — and now it’s facing down distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Bungie took the unusual step of confirming the DDoS attacks in a tweet in part to explain to the Destiny community that a recent spike in error codes and disconnects some thought were the result of the studio’s efforts to fix the crafting glitch problem. “Over the past couple of days, we've seen a spike in error codes and disconnects,” Bungie said. “The team has confirmed that these error codes are not related to the planned fixes rolling out for the recent crafting issue and are instead a result of DDoS attacks. While we typically don't confirm these...
Starfield has seen more than 10 million players since it came out on September 1 in paid early access form, Bethesda has announced. The impressive milestone means Starfield remains the biggest launch in Bethesda history after shooting past six million players on September 7. The sci-fi role-playing game launched on PC and Xbox Series X and S, and day-and-date on Game Pass as perhaps Microsoft’s highest-profile first-party release since 343’s Halo Infinite came out in December 2021. Neither Microsoft nor Bethesda are yet to announce sales. We do know Starfield hit a peak of 330,723 concurrent players on Steam 10 days ago. Data from SteamDB shows Starfield sitting in 27th place in Steam's all-time list, while Bethesda’s Skyrim is in...
Some describe Volker Wertich as the German Sid Meier, or, if they’re feeling particularly bold, the German Hideo Kojima. He is the creator of The Settlers, a 30-year-old city builder video game many fondly remember playing on the Amiga back in 1993. And so when Ubisoft announced a reboot of The Settlers with Wertich signed on to lead development using the same graphics engine that powered the likes of The Division, fans could barely contain their excitement. Finally, The Settlers would return with a game worthy of its forebears. In 2020, just two years after The Settlers was announced at gamescom 2018 to so much enthusiasm, Wertich quietly left the project. And after a string of delays and development issues, The Settlers reboot...
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotako have revealed that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will launch on January 26, 2024. The story follows both current series protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and former protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Ichiban goes on a journey to Hawaii to find his mother, who he was separated from when he was younger. Additionally, Kiryu makes the shattering announcement that he has been diagnosed with cancer. With the limited time he has left, Kiryu wants to make amends for his past being part of the Yakuza. As his strength weakens, Kiryu realizes he has to work together with Ichiban, as apparently every other local gang in Hawaii is after his...
When I first heard that Mortal Kombat 1 would be skipping the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, but would in fact, be coming out on the Switch, my first thought was, “Surely that means that it’s going to be one of those cloud version-only games like Resident Evil Village, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and so on. But I was wrong: Mortal Kombat 1 on the Switch is a straight-up port, running directly off the Switch hardware, and yes, that is as bad of an idea as it sounds. Before we begin, please check out my Mortal Kombat 1 review for the version that’s on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to get a full overview and my critiques of it. Long story short: MK1 is great! There are exciting changes to the gameplay formula in the form of the Kameo...
Even though Terraria developer Re-Logic mostly doesn’t use Unity, it’s made a strong statement of condemnation in regards to the engine’s recently announced, controversial install fee policy – and it’s putting its money where its mouth is. In a statement on X/Twitter today, which you can read in full below, Re-Logic said that the team “has been watching the recent events surrounding Unity with both interest and sadness." “The loss of a formerly leading and user-friendly game engine to the darker forces that negatively impact so much of the gaming industry has left us dismayed to put it mildly,” it continued. “While we do not personally use Unity (outside of a few elements on our console/mobile platforms), we feel like we cannot sit...
Take a look at an exclusive new clip of the upcoming story expansion for Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn. The expansion takes place one year after the events of Tales of Arise and follows a young girl named Nazamil as the main party of six find her by chance. The story will also explore what the party has been up to since. In this clip, Nazamil is seen running away from three people trying to chase her down for unknown reasons. She eventually finds herself cornered and uses her powers to conceal herself, allowing her to shake off her pursuers. As she heads off into the distance, the scene cuts away to Arise protagonists Alphen and Shionne. They’re simply walking around and trying to enjoy the scenery. However, Shionne comments that...
To say that Baldur's Gate 3 was underestimated before its full release last month is an understatement, so much so that Microsoft and others did not expect Larian Studios' hit RPG to become one of the biggest games of the year. That surfaced today as part of the latest massive leak of documents from June's Microsoft vs. FTC trial, which included an email chain published in May 2022 between multiple Microsoft executives that focused on Microsoft scrambling to fill a "huge hole" in its 2022 games lineup. The email chain included a list of potential third-party games to add to its subscription service Game Pass, all of which were slated to be released throughout the 2023 financial year. One of those was Baldur's Gate 3 which, under the...
In 2021, Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise took home the award for Best Role Playing Game at The Game Awards. Since its release, it has gone on to sell over 2 million copies across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Two years later, it’s getting a new story expansion called Beyond the Dawn, which takes place one year after the events of the main game. The party of six meets a young girl named Nazamil, who is half Renan and half Dahnan, fated to fall under the curse of a mask. As such, the party must find a way to avert her fate. As a story expansion, Beyond the Dawn is the first of its kind for the Tales series. In previous entries, if there was a direct story continuation, then a fully fledged sequel would be released. For example, 2003’s Tales...
French President Emmanuel Macron has responded to the criticism he received for blaming video games for the riots that spread across the country over the summer. Macron released a statement Saturday on X/Twitter, explaining that he "made gamers jump" (or, startled them) when he said back in June that some rioters were, according to Kotaku, "living out, in the streets, the video games that have intoxicated them." He said he only expressed those concerns "because video game codes had been used by offenders to trivialize violence on social networks" — specifically Snapchat and TikTok. "It is this violence that I condemn, not video games," he added. To that end, Macron clarified his views on video games, most of which are positive. He...
Cyberpunk 2077's next major (and free) update is out later this week, and CD Projekt Red encourages players to start a new save file after installing Update 2.0. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CD Projekt Red wrote that it is strongly urging players to start a brand new adventure in Night City after installing Update 2.0. The developer explains that due to the number of changes the update will introduce, a clean slate is best to "enhance your overall gameplay experience." To be clear, you do not have to start a new Cyberpunk 2077 file, which CD Projekt Red even notes at the start of the post. But when you consider that Update 2.0 will introduce a host of new features to players at no additional cost, including revamped perk and...

This week, several unredacted, highly confidential documents from Microsoft began appearing online. These documents were part of Microsoft's legal case against the U.S. regulator, the Federal Trade Commission. The case was argued back in June, with a verdict reached in July, ruling in favor of Microsoft. The documents in question have revealed highly sensitive information regarding Microsoft's gaming arm Xbox, where its hardware roadmap is in the coming years, and other game developers it has its eye on acquiring. To dive in deeper, check out our breakdown below of all the news and reveals from the latest leaked documents. The Elder Scrolls 6 Is an Xbox Console Exclusive The Elder Scrolls 6, the next major installment in...
The latest part of our Alan Wake 2 IGN First is a section of exclusive 4K RTX gameplay played from the perspective of titular writer Alan Wake himself. The above video takes place in The Dark Place – a nightmare New York he’s trapped in - Alan finds a familiar face lurking in one of its many shadowy alleyways. This jacket-wearing, paisley tie-sporting detective is no other than Alex Casey, the hero from Wake’s successful crime book series. Crucially, despite being voiced by the unmistakable James McCaffrey and sharing the likeness of Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake, this isn’t Max Payne, albeit if the similarities are there for all to see and hear. Lake explained the reasoning behind the playful appearance of Casey: “The version of...
Microsoft has revealed the titles joining and leaving Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service from mid-September to early October, including Payday 3, Gotham knights, and more. As revealed on Xbox Wire, the upcoming offering includes a grand total of four titles that will release directly onto the subscription service, starting with the raucous multiplayer brawler Party Animals on September 20. Payday 3 meanwhile releases as another Game Pass day-one title on September 21, while the recursive adventure game Cocoon follows suit on October 3, alongside The Lamplighter’s League. Check out the full cast of games coming to Xbox Game Pass and their respective platforms below: Party Animals (cloud, and console) - September 20 Payday 3...
Starfield hasn’t been out in the wild for very long, but that hasn’t stopped modders already taking the time to change and — in some cases — improve the game for PC players. From a much more detailed inventory UI to adding DLSS and even adding the PlayStation Studios splash screen to the start of the game (yes, seriously!), there are already some great mods worth a look. This page will feature some of our favorite Starfield mods that we’ve found so far, and we’ll be updating this article as we find more. If we are missing any of your favorites, be sure to let us know in the comments below! We also want to note that these mods are being built without official mod support from Bethesda. Don't worry though, as Bethesda's Todd Howard has...
The explosive Xbox leak has sent shockwaves throughout the Red Dead Redemption community after a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen update was found listed by a Microsoft executive in a planning email. In an email chain between Microsoft executives dated May 2022 is a list of third-party games earmarked as potential day-and-date Game Pass titles. One of the games mentioned is Red Dead Redemption 2 “D&D for gen9”, which Microsoft expected to come out during the second quarter of its 2023 financial year (October to December 2022). “Gen9” refers to the ninth generation of consoles, aka the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar has yet to announce a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2, despite the many calls from fans. IGN...
The first ever Bluey video game is releasing on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. Outright Games, in partnership with BBC Studios, is opening up the world of the beloved animated preschool series and inviting you to join Bluey and her buddies in an all-new interactive sandbox adventure, aptly titled Bluey: The Videogame, that will give players free rein to explore Bluey's house and several other iconic locations. The trailer for Bluey: The Videogame, below, features all of the main characters from the award-winning series, including Bluey, her younger sister Bingo, Dad Bandit, and Mum Chilli, with up to four players getting to play as those characters and experience the...
After surprising everybody with the outstanding Hot Wheels Unleashed in 2021, developer Milestone is poised to take us back to the toy box all over again. We’ve previously had some time with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - Turbocharged back in June, but fresh from another rummage around this souped-up sequel, here our updated impressions of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2’s new career mode and some of its extremely promising new track environments. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2’s solo action appears set up in a pretty similar fashion to the 2021 original – with a top-down city map filled with races and challenges to conquer – but this time around Milestone has injected a kid-friendly story about saving the city from a series of monsters alongside it. This...
Larian Studios has suggested that anyone experiencing "sudden crashes" while playing Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5 take their consoles offline as a workaround while it investigates the root cause of the error, which appears to be tied to the PlayStation Network. “Some PS5 players are experiencing sudden Baldur’s Gate 3 crashes in what appears to be a PSN-related issue,” read a post from the Baldur’s Gate 3 game account on X. “We’re investigating the problem, but for now, the workaround is to disconnect your PS5 from the internet.” As noted by Eurogamer, many players were irked by the disruption to their online campaigns, while others were simply grateful for the temporary workaround, and relieved that the issue seemingly wouldn’t affect...
Microsoft documents have leaked a number of unannounced Bethesda games, including an Oblivion remaster. The documents, apparently accidentally published as part of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial over the buyout of Activision Blizzard, include a chart put together in July 2020 ahead of Microsoft’s March 2021 purchase of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media. As such, the release timings are obviously out of date (Starfield was heavily delayed, for example, and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones game has yet to come out), and some of the unannounced games included here may have been canceled. But what we do have is a Bethesda release schedule accurate as of three years ago. Here’s the list: Financial year 2022...
Major spoiler warning, folks! We're going to be discussing the final moments of Lies of P's story. You've been warned. Lies of P, the fairytale-inspired soulslike based on Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio is here, but it's never too early to speculate on the franchise's future...especially since that future has already received its first potential details in the form of a shocking post-credits scene at the conclusion of developer Neowiz's puppet-filled adventure. After credits have rolled, a final cutscene shows one of the game's principal characters, Paracelcus, speaking to an unknown woman on the phone, reporting on the outcome of the dramatic events in the city of Krat. After what sounds like some shady scheming between...
Nobody likes the idea of being spied on, but the minute you connect to the internet you can kiss your privacy goodbye. It’s not a conspiracy theory: your ISP is watching you. If you want to safeguard yourself from prying eyes eager to sell your data, you need a VPN (Virtual Private Network). It's one of the easiest and most effective ways to browse the internet anonymously. These services essentially put your internet access inside a protective railway tunnel that hides your browsing activity. Your ISP is oblivious to your activity and there's practically zero effect on your internet speeds. Better still, most VPNs allow you to connect through servers all around the world, so you can pretend you're visiting the web from another place...
Lies of P is now available on Game Pass just a tiny bit earlier than originally planned. It was scheduled to hit Game Pass as a day one release tomorrow, but Xbox’s VP of games marketing Aaron Greenberg confirmed in a post on X/Twitter a couple of hours ago that it’s now available on the service. The release, though, has been a little confusing. The release date was largely marketed as Sept. 19, but it hit Xbox consoles and Steam this morning. The PlayStation version, however, is still scheduled to release tomorrow (or rather, midnight tonight). Of course, plenty have already gotten their hands on Lies of P, with those who ordered the Deluxe Edition getting access on Sept. 15. Basically, maybe release dates have been the real lie...
Ty “Tyleniphe” grew up playing franchises like World of Warcraft and Diablo. From slaying boars with friends to extensively studying the lore within Diablo 2, many of Ty’s gaming memories revolve around these moments. And now, Ty holds the title of the world's first blind player to fully complete Diablo 4 independently. As the accessibility movement grows across the gaming industry, studios are actively incorporating features and design practices that benefit disabled players. Not only do these accessibility tools remove potential barriers, but they also allow individuals like Ty to challenge themselves without belittling their experiences. And with a suite of accessibility options and designs like screen reader support, high quality...
Mortal Kombat 1 is out in the wild following its early access release, and so fans finally have a chance to check out the visuals of the Nintendo Switch version. Unfortunately, early impressions are negative, so much so that NetherRealm’s fighting game is already approaching meme status. The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 was always going to look worse than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions, given the power available from the hardware. But fans were shocked to discover the extend of the downgrade. It’s clear to see the character models are generally low quality here, but the internet is having its fun with the characters’ eyes, which on Nintendo Switch appear to pop out of eye-sockets — and not in a gory...
Dataminers have a long history of digging into NetherRealm’s fighting games to unearth potentially upcoming content, such as DLC characters and even story expansions. Unsurprisingly, they’ve already done the same to Mortal Kombat 1. Mortal Kombat 1’s effective release date was September 14, which means dataminers have had a few days now to get their hands dirty with the game’s code before the official street date of September 19. Mortal Kombat 1 spoilers follow. Dataminers have unearthed voice lines that suggest either cut content or upcoming, unannounced DLC characters. While NetherRealm has already announced the characters set to appear in Kombat Pack 1 (check out IGN's Mortal Kombat 1 character guide for more), based on these...
Titanfall 2 is enjoying something of a mini-resurgence on PC after its community spotted what it believes was an update that addressed long-standing matchmaking issues. Earlier this month, the Titanfall community said Respawn’s much-loved 2016 first-person shooter had received an update that reduced disconnects players experienced while searching for a match. Titanfall 2 has been riddled with issues for years, and its history is littered with hacks, conspiracies, and hoaxes. While Respawn or publisher EA has yet to announce an update to Titanfall 2, the game is enjoying a healthy number of players on Steam. Yesterday, September 17, Titanfall 2 hit a peak of 23,234 concurrent players. It is comfortably in Steam’s top 100 most-popular...
