Blizzard has revealed the next chapter Diablo 4, and it revolves around a really handy mechanical spider. Dubbed the Season of the Construct, the upcoming update will send players into the perilous and trap-riddled vaults of the legendary Zoltun Kulle in search of treasure, battling demonically possessed mechanical constructs in the process. The main power grind will center on your new robotic companion, a spider-like friend called the Seneschal who comes with its own management UI and can be customized with magical stones of different rarities and power levels to alter its behaviors and abilities to your liking. With nearly 40 different stones to collect, there will be a wide variety of options for how your multi-legged buddy can...
The United States Supreme Court has denied a request to hear Epic Games v. Apple, the antitrust lawsuit regarding Apple's practices in its app store. As reported by Reuters, the Supreme Court published a list of cases pending in the court right now, in addition to legal cases it declined to hear. Two of which included appeals from both Apple and Epic Games. None of the justices provided reasons for refusing to hear either case. "The Supreme Court denied both sides' appeals of the Epic v. Apple antitrust case," Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney wrote on X/Twitter. "The court battle to open iOS to competing stores and payments is lost in the United States. A sad outcome for all developers." Apple did not immediately respond to...

The developers also promise a "non-linear plot that reacts with the...
Prison Architect 2 launches on March 26, 2024 on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5 priced $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Double Eleven have announced. The sequel to the hit prison management simulator brings 3D graphics to the table, alongside multiple floors, sandbox construction, Career mode and inmate connections. “The game offers deeper simulation, greater player control, an inhabitant behaviour system and creative options to define the next generation of management gameplay,” Paradox said. And here’s the official blurb: Introversion sold the Prison Architect intellectual property to Paradox in 2019, with Double Eleven taking over development duties. Introversion went...
After years of development and multiple delays, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is delayed once again, but this time with a firm, “final” release date: September 5, 2024. Ukrainian developer GSC Game World opened up about the challenges the studio has faced getting the apocalyptic PC and Xbox Series X and S shooter up to scratch after a mixed reaction to its debut public showing last year. “And as true friends always do, you shared your honest thoughts about the game,” GSC Game World said in a tweet. “Both positive and negative, and we are thankful for that. From your insights, we figured out two key points: the one to celebrate and the one to consider seriously. “The first one: the Zone remains the Zone. In its true beauty and after...
Microsoft has snapped up 11 bit studios’ promising city-builder sequel Frostpunk 2 as a day-one PC Game Pass title. Frostpunk 2, which for some time now has been one of the most wishlisted games on Steam alongside the likes of Hades 2, Manor Lords, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, launches on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, in the first half of 2024. Then, Frostpunk 2 launches later on console, with the game hitting Xbox Game Pass as soon as the Xbox Series X and S version comes out. A PlayStation 5 release is also in the works. We were told “further Game Pass additions from 11 bit studios portfolio are set to be unveiled at a later date”. “As a Steward in Frostpunk 2, you will oversee an ever-growing metropolis and be...

You can (and should!) watch that above, while the first batch of screenshots are available in the gallery below. PlayFusion describes the world of Ascendant Infinity as such: "Newly defrosted following a thousand years on ice, players find themselves in a world where everything...
A cursory search through YouTube shows hundreds, if not thousands of videos that tie all of The Last of Us’ cutscenes together so viewers can watch them like a movie. Count The Last of Us Season 2's Young Mazino as one of those viewers. Beef star Mazino, set to play Jesse in HBO's The Last of Us Season 2, told Variety that he’d never played The Last of Us before because he was a PC and Xbox guy. But he had watched the game’s entire story via YouTube videos that cobbled together its cutscenes. Mazino, who starts shooting The Last of Us Season 2 in just two weeks, said: “I only played Xbox and PC, so I hadn’t played the first game. However I watched the cutscenes. They stitched it all together on YouTube, so it’s a whole movie. So I...
Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Grand Theft Auto 6 developer Rockstar Games, and Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Alan Wake 2, are locked in a trademark dispute over their R-depicting logos. As first reported by RespawnFirst, Take-Two filed a trademark dispute against Remedy in the United Kingdom over the rebranded logo it released last year. Its logo now solely depicts the letter R, or is sometimes styled with "Remedy" underneath, which Take-Two seemingly believes is too similar to Rockstar's own R logo. The UK government's website lists both logos, available here and here, as opposed, with Take-Two named as the opponent. Remedy's new logo was unveiled in April 2023 as a "refreshed visual identity" following its...
F1 23 becomes available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate this week as part of the game's arrival on subscription service EA Play. Codemasters’ racing game launches on EA Play, and thus into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, on January 18. F1 23 is the official video game of the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship. It features new circuits — Las Vegas and Lusail — and a new chapter in the Braking Point story mode. IGN’s F1 23 review returned an 8/10. We said: “With Braking Point 2 aboard, F1 23 is a far heartier package than F1 22. However, while the new F1 World mode is packed with activities, its loot-based upgrade system may split fans.” Elsewhere, Super Mega Baseball 4 is now available for all EA Play members, and as a result available...
I had only just played Persona 3 Portable in the last few years, so that hundred-hour saga felt relatively fresh in my mind going into my demo of Persona 3 Reload. I was excited to hang out with all my old pals, but a bit skeptical that it would be different enough to warrant the time investment all over again. In my playthrough that ran more than an hour, though, I didn't feel at all like Reload was covering the same ground, even if it basically is. The added gameplay elements, updated graphics, tweaked areas and social links compel me to sink another handful of months into getting to the bottom of Apathy Syndrome with the S.E.E.S. crew. The biggest vibe shift was wandering the tower of Tartarus, which is now the creepiest of all the...
Street Fighter 6 has sold three million copies in seven months, publisher Capcom has announced. The fighting game hit the milestone on January 3, 2024, and comes seven months after it went on sale on June 2, 2023. Street Fighter 6 got off to a strong start with one million sold over launch weekend. It then hit two million copies sold after just over a month on sale. That means it’s taken half a year to sell one million more copies. Commenting on the two million sales milestone, Capcom said Street Fighter 6 was “generally progressing in line with our expectations”, adding it hoped positive word of mouth would fuel follow-up success. “Compared to the internal plan for the title, sales are generally progressing in line with our...
An executive at Assassin’s Creed maker Ubisoft has said gamers will need to get “comfortable” not owning their games before video game subscriptions truly take off. Speaking to discuss the launch of Ubisoft’s new Ubisoft+ Premium and Ubisoft+ Classics subscriptions, Philippe Tremblay, director of subscriptions at Ubisoft, explained to GI.biz what needs to happen before subscription services become a more significant slice of the video game business. "I don't have a crystal ball, but when you look at the different subscription services that are out there, we've had a rapid expansion over the last couple of years, but it's still relatively small compared to the other models," Tremblay said. "We're seeing expansion on console as the...
Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has released yet another hotfix for its phenomenally successful Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, this time taking on everyone’s favourite magic item-gobbling wizard, Gale. Spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3 follow. Baldur’s Gate 3 players will know that in the early game, Gale is in desperate need of magic items in order to prevent him from suffering a grizzly fate. He’s so desperate, in fact, that if you don’t give him a magic item to consume pretty much every time he asks for one, he’ll get so fed up he’ll leave your party. What a grump! Hotfix 17, out now, makes Gale chill out a bit when it comes to his magic item addiction. Here’s Larian describing the change in a post on Steam: “Poor Gale - we...
If you're still lucky enough to still be holidaying—or you're a forward-thinker planning for the blessed weekend—you're gonna need some gaming fuel. As per always, I've scoured the eshops, online storefronts, and brick 'n' mortars for nothing but the finest wares at whoa-that's-cheap prices. Head sublevel to start saving. In retro news, it's been 28 years since we caused post-apocalyptic vehicular violence with a clown in an ice cream van. That first Twisted Metal would go on to spawn 10 titles produced by a variety of developers, plus a surprisingly decent TV series that debuted recently on Stan. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays for notable games. - Twisted Metal (PS) 1996. Get - Street Fighter V (ARC) 2018. Get Table of...

This subscription is designed to offer day-one new releases and early access where applicable, as well as premium editions and monthly rewards. Elden Ring fans have grown ravenous for a Shadow of the Erdtree expansion announcement after developer FromSoftware made a change to the game's backend on Steam. X/Twitter user and Elden Ring YouTuber Ziostorm noticed the change on SteamDB's page for Elden Ring, sharing an image of a new application added to the Downloadable Content section of Elden Ring's Steam page for the first time since launch. "I'm not saying it's 100% Shadow of the Erdtree but there's a pretty good chance it is," they said, and fans are similarly hopeful elsewhere online. "Announcement must be imminent," JoRads said on Reddit. "Definitely. It's a matter of days now, or even less," Hector_Savage_ replied. This update also adds fuel to the fire of a previous...

The director of Overwatch 2 has said it was a "mistake" to reveal a controversial new self-healing mechanic coming to all characters in the hero shooter “out of context." Last week, developer Blizzard unveiled seismic changes coming to Overwatch 2 as part of Season 9, none more disruptive than giving both Tank and Damage heroes a “modified, tuned-down version of the Support self-healing passive.” Overwatch game director Aaron Keller explained the decision in a blog post on Blizzard's website: The announcement sparked a vociferous debate within the Overwatch community, with some complaining that it risked devaluing the team play that has defined Overwatch’s competitive multiplayer since day one, and could make Support characters...
An unannounced Halo Battle Royale was reportedly cancelled, according to XboxEra co-founder Shpeshal_Nick. Speaking on the XboxEra Podcast, and as reported by Eurogamer, Shpeshal_Nick said the Halo battle royale was no-longer in development. IGN has asked Microsoft for comment. Word of the Halo battle royale has popped up every now and then ever since Halo Infinite came out in 2021. Codenamed Tatanka, the battle royale mode was reportedly in development at support studio Certain Affinity, although neither Microsoft nor Halo developer 343 has ever commented publicly on it. In a September 2022 interview with VentureBeat, Certain Affinity president and COO Paul Sams teased a large Halo project that fit the battle royale bill. “The...
Grand Theft Auto voice actor Ned Luke, who played Michael De Santa in GTA 5, has called out a "f**king bulls**t" AI chatbot that used his voice. As reported by PCGamesN, Luke responded to a post on X/Twitter from AI company WAME for promoting a chatbot that let users have "a realistic voice conversation with Michael De Santa." WAME quickly removed the chatbot following Luke's post, saying "this incident has highlighted the intricate interplay between the advancement of AI technology and the ethical and legal realms." Luke didn't mince words in his post. "This is f**king bulls**t WAME," he said. "Absolutely nothing cool about ripping people off with some lame computer estimation of my voice. Don't waste your time on this garbage."...
The creator of Portal 64 has said disappointed fans should not blame Valve for its recent takedown. Portal 64 sought to revive Valve's 2007 classic on Nintendo 64 hardware. It was shuttered just a week after its developer, Joe Lambert, released a "First Slice" video demonstrating progress after two years of work, and promoted a Patreon he hoped would support the creation of the project as a full-time job. Portal 64 was pulled in the same breath Team Fortress: Source 2, a fan project seeking to port Valve's classic shooter to the Source 2 engine, was following a DMCA takedown demand from Valve that blocked the group's GitHub repositories. Lambert has published a new video explaining what happened, revealing Valve asked him to take...
One of the talking points coming out of the reveal of Smite 2 is developer Hi-Rez Studios’ decision not to port the original game’s skins, many of which players have paid for, to the sequel. Free-to-play third-person multiplayer online battle arena game Smite launched in 2014. The sequel is built using Unreal Engine 5, with an alpha playtest planned for spring 2024 some 10 years after the original came out. Smite was originally designed on Unreal Engine 3 back in the early 2010s and has stayed on that platform. “While it has worked well for us, 10 years is a long time and our work thus far in Unreal Engine 5 has shown us just how exciting the future of Smite can be,” Hi-Rez said. In its keynote to announce Smite 2, Hi-Rez staff...
Eddy is Tekken 8’s first DLC character, Bandai Namco has announced. The veteran Tekken character launches at some point this spring, as revealed in a new video showing off Tekken 8’s opening movie. Eddy sports a new high-top dreads hairstyle and a new outfit for Tekken 8, although his capoeira fighting style is present and correct. The video reveals four DLC characters are currently planned for season 1, the first of which is Eddy. Another follows in summer, another in the autumn, then the fourth in the winter. As for the opening movie, it’s more of a character montage rather than a story set-up, with over-the-top expressions from the many characters packed into the clip. We see familiar faces as well as a few newcomers, but the...
It's business as usual today, bargain hunters—nothing but the cheapest prices on the stuff actually worth caring about. Personally, I'd steer you most strongly towards that Awesome Humble Bundle as there are some cracking titles within. Not many of them are below 9/10 goodness. In retro news, I'm celebrating the twin 36-year-old birthdays of some NES greats. The original Metroid needs very little introduction, as it's a franchise that continues to kick goals and acquire new fans today. Conversely, the bodaciousness of Rad Racer might be lost on many of you. It was basically one of the best racers on the system and featured prominently in Nintendo's 1h 40m advertisement / movie called The Wizard (1989). This Day in Gaming Aussie...
Players were enamored by the BioShock series from the moment they escaped a crashed aircraft, entered a mysterious lighthouse, and embarked on their undersea voyage to the crumbling city of Rapture. Often referenced and paid tribute to, many consider Irrational Games’ immersive action-horror classic a masterpiece, and in the years following its debut, it blossomed into a long-running franchise. But in classic BioShock fashion, its sequels were the furthest thing from traditional. As expected for a series that hinges on otherworldly scientific discoveries and reality-tearing experiments, BioShock's story frequently switches between alternate universes, leaving its games out of chronological order. So, for those looking for a linear...
