First Look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed

The onslaught of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games continues, this time with a sequel to the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

3D action platformer Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed continues the story of Mutant Mayhem and launches during the fourth quarter of 2024 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and Windows. Players can explore the city, sewers, and skyscrapers of New York in single-player or two-player local co-op. New York City’s five boroughs are included, and are said to pay homage to the 2023 film. Here’s the official blurb:

“In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, after finally being accepted into society and pursuing their dream of attending a regular high school, the Turtles’ newfound happiness is abruptly interrupted by a new wave of mutants causing unrest across New York City. Players take control of the four masked heroes, each with their own unique playstyle, as they traverse the sewers and city streets of New York. With an immersive world to explore both above and below ground, meet familiar faces as the ragtag heroes in a half shell gear up to delight fans at home with their chaotic capers. Players can get ready to order in a pizza and adventure solo or team up with a friend in two player local co-op mode later this year.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed is published by Outright Games, a company that focuses on family-friendly video games based on famous IP, and developed by A Heartful of Games, which created DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of The Nine Realms.

It's a busy time for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mutant Mayhem is getting a spin-off cartoon series called Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles later in the summer. A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game based on the Last Ronin comic is also in development at Black Forest Games, the maker of the remakes of Destroy All Humans! and Destroy All Humans! 2. And of course, Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel film has a release date of October 9, 2026.

Mutant Mayhem was a critical and commercial hit. IGN’s review returned an 8/10: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem oozes confidence, energy, and heart, and the animated adventure represents a new high for the Turtles on the big screen. Top-notch voice acting, anchored by Jackie Chan’s Splinter and four instantly lovable teen Turtles, plus a killer Reznor and Ross score ensure that Mutant Mayhem isn’t getting by on looks alone. Even if the superhero tropes the story plays with feel worn, the enthusiasm with which Mutant Mayhem tackles them always wins out.”
