The Epic Games Store has released its 2023 year in review, which includes stats revealing it gave away more than $2,000 worth of games last year. A blog post on the Epic Games Store, which looks to rival other PC storefronts such as Steam, revealed it gave away 86 games in total amassing to a recommended retail price of $2,055. More than 580 million games were downloaded through the free giveaway offer. As for actual player numbers, the Epic Games Store reached 75 million monthly active users in December 2023, which was a 10% increase from the previous year. This still pales in comparison to Steam, however. The latest data for Valve's platform saw it hit 132 million monthly active users by the end of 2021, a number that's likely...
Lethal Company is likely a game you’ve heard of. It fancies itself a co-op horror game, and with a plethora of horrifying enemies chasing you as you’re trying to survive capitalism in outer space, it’s not too wrong. However, despite the scary monsters (that you’re powerless against), and moments where you’ll be screaming and running […] Continue reading...
Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment is reportedly working on a first-person Mandalorian video game. Insider Gaming reports Respawn’s Mandalorian game, which in the early stages of development, lets players control a Mandalorian bounty hunter during a time when the Empire is dominating the galaxy. IGN has asked EA for comment. The player is reportedly tasked with taking on bounties for cash, as you might expect from a Mandalorian video game. There’s word the iconic Mandalorian jetpack plays a part in the game’s “high mobility”, with boost sliding similar to that seen in Respawn’s battle royale, Apex Legends. It’s said to be “fast-paced”, with health regenerating upon successive kills. Gadgets supposedly...
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the first Capcom game priced $70, but it sounds like there’s more to come. In a financial results conference call Q&A summary, Capcom responded to a question about the company’s video price policy that also pointed out $69.99 had become the norm for triple-A video games across the industry. “Dragon's Dogma 2, which is scheduled for release this fiscal year, will be priced at $69.99,” Capcom replied. “Industrywide development costs are rising, and we are considering a price review as one option. Ultimately, we intend to take a thoughtful approach in pricing our games while ascertaining user feedback.” That very much suggests $70 will become the standard for Capcom video games, as it has become the standard for so...
A handful of classic Fallout games, including the beloved Fallout 2, are free to download and own forever via the Epic Games Store from February 22 for a week. As reported by VGC, Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel will be available from February 22 to 29 to anyone with an Epic Games account. Players just need to log in to the store and visit the individual game pages to claim them, granting access to them forever. The original Fallout, not developed by current franchise owner Bethesda but Interplay Productions, launched in 1997 and laid the groundwork for what would become one of gaming's most iconic franchises. Players would explore a wasteland littered with wild and wacky characters and engage in...
Following the revelation that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are getting a surprise Warhammer 40,000 crossover, a dataminer has revealed what the skins actually look like in-game. Modern Warfare 3 dataminer TheOfficeCOD posted a video showcasing two Space Marine operator skins coming to Activision’s shooter, one from the Ultramarines chapter, the other from the Blood Angels. While the Space Marines look goofy holding Call of Duty guns (these Power Armour-clad transhuman warriors are meant to dwarf the average human in terms of size and power), it sounds like they are reserved for use with the Juggernaut killstreak, which lets you wear a hulking, armoured suit and wield a devastating minigun. That sounds much more up a...

Additional info for WWE 2k24, including the roster, Superstar ratings, and DLC, will be "shared soon," 2K wrote in the blog post. 2K also revealed the...
If you’re playing Helldivers 2 you’ve probably heard the in-game call to action: the Automatons are making a push towards Earth and it’s time for players to turn their attention away from the killer bugs they started with and onto the killer robots. The only problem is, the killer robots are absolutely wrecking players. This week, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead opened up two new worlds to play on, and introduced new Automaton defense missions including some that involve safely extracting a certain number of scientists or civilians. And it’s these extraction missions in particular that players are having trouble with. Why? Simply put, these missions chuck hordes of heavily armoured Automatons at you in relentless waves of robot...
Palworld developer Pocketpair has addressed the rampant cheating that is affecting the 'Pokemon with guns' survival and crafting game, and outlined a number of steps it’s taking to try to combat the problem. In a statement, Pocketpair confirmed that some Palworld players are currently unable to connect to official servers due to cheating “and the influence of fraudulent activities.” “We have confirmed that some players are unable to play the game properly,” Pocketpair continued. “As a company, we do not tolerate any fraudulent activity or cheating, and we are working on measures to deal with it strictly and as a priority.” Cheating has been an issue for Palworld ever since its explosive launch on PC and Xbox Series X and S earlier...

Since its inception, Grand Theft Auto has always built itself on humour. In the 2D days that was the simple, darkly funny premise of mowing down pedestrians – the stuff that fuelled Carmageddon’s popularity and notoriety. In the years since, the jokes have become more sophisticated, building into a blunt satire of the United States of America. It’s been over a decade since Grand Theft Auto 5, though, and the cultural landscape of the US has shifted considerably during that period. The 2016 election seemed the runway for a spiral of increasingly absurd changes, encompassing everything from capitalist greed to pandemic mismanagement and a literal political insurrection. In 2018, Rockstar co-founder and GTA’s former head writer Dan...
When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order came out in 2019, it was roundly and rightly praised for being one of the most exciting additions to the larger Star Wars universe since the modern era reboot began. But last year when Star Wars Jedi: Survivor came out, it turned out to be the perfect follow-up. The game has seen a few discounts since its release, but if you're sharp about it and head over to Amazon, you can get it for just £20 at the moment. That's a ridiculous 71% of the RRP for the Xbox version of the game. If you're on PS5, you can get it for £29.99, which is still a crazy discount. When the game first came out last year, we gave it a 9 in our review, saying: "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes what Fallen Order achieved and...
Larian has released Baldur’s Gate 3’s huge Patch 6 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. It launches on Mac at a later date. The highlight here is the patch introduces new and randomised kisses for every romantic partner, but that’s not all. There are new camp idle animations, new Legendary Actions for bosses in Honour Mode, as well as quality-of-life improvements, additions, and fixes based on community feedback. Larian said the new and randomised kisses are unique scenes that “better reflect the personalities of each character”, and have been improved to better accommodate taller and shorter body types. Patch 6 has also “breathed new life” into the player camp, with new idle animations “that let companions spend...
Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies since going on sale on October 27, 2023 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via the Epic Games Store, making it developer Remedy Entertainment's fastest-selling game ever. Alan Wake 2 had sold one million copies by the end of 2023, and shifted an additional 300,000 copies as of the beginning of February 2024, Remedy revealed. Trumpeting Alan Wake 2’s ongoing sales, Remedy said the game had sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months. Control has sold over four million copies since going on sale in 2019, generating net revenue of around €100 million (roughly $107 million). “A great game can...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has released another patch for the popular co-op shooter which takes aim at the various matchmaking issues that have plagued launch. While Helldivers 2 is a critical and commercial success, selling over one million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC, and becoming Sony’s biggest ever launch on Steam, its release has been blighted by server problems that made matchmaking a serious issue. Arrowhead even promised to compensate players for lost rewards. The developer has worked to combat these issues since launch, admitting it was not prepared for the over 360,000 concurrent players it had to deal with. And now patch 01.000.008 is here on PS5 and PC to help in the fight. According to the...

Amid a flurry of Xbox news today, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer confirmed that four Xbox exclusives are headed to other platforms. He's not, however, expecting other companies to take the same approach. In an interview for Stephen Totilo's Game File newsletter, Spencer specifically brought up Helldivers 2, Sony's first simultaneous PS5 and PC release, while touching on the subject. "I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2 — and it's a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation — I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox," he said. "If you try to twist yourself to say, like, somehow that benefited somebody somewhere." Still, Spencer relents a little bit, saying, "but I...
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has admitted the issues with the Windows operating system and how it performs on handheld gaming PCs. But promises to improve the experience. Speaking to The Verge, Spencer admitted that the operating system is one of the "weak points" on Windows-based handheld PCs like the Asus ROG Ally. But revealed that the platform team is working on making Windows better optimized for these devices. "One of the weak points in the experience on a ROG or the Lenovo [Legion Go] is Windows," Spencer told the outlet. "How Windows works on controller input only on that kind of DPI, on a smaller eight- or seven-inch screen. That's a real design point that our platform team is working with Windows to make sure that the experience...
In a blog post and podcast today, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer made waves by confirming four Xbox exclusives will be going multi-platform. While he didn't reveal what those games would be, he did confirm a couple of games that won't be included in those four titles. When asked directly by moderator and former IGN editor-in-chief Tina Amini if any of those four exclusives going multi-platform were Starfield or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Spencer replied, "They are not Starfield or Indiana Jones." Spencer, however, is still leaving Xbox's multi-platform options open. In an interview with The Verge, he stopped short of ruling out Starfield and Indiana Jones ever coming to PS5. “I don’t think we should as an industry ever...

Here's everything that was announced. Xbox reveals its plans for PS5 and more. The biggest news was Xbox's confirmation that four games will indeed be going...
Disco Elysium developer ZA/UM has reportedly cancelled a standalone expansion for the game, leaving several staff members at risk of losing their jobs. Sources close to the matter told Video Games by GLHF that around 24 employees, or roughly one quarter of all staff, are at risk of redundancy. Staff who worked on a game codenamed Project X7, which was allegedly the Disco Elysium expansion, are the most at risk of being laid off, according to GLHF, such as 2D, 3D, and technical artists alongside production, IT, and animation employees. GLHF also obtained a message allegedly sent to staff from CEO Ilmar Kompus. "Despite concerted efforts over the past eight months by our management team and the X7 disciplines, following consultation...
No Rest for the Wicked is the unexpected next project from Moon Studios, the developer behind the Ori series. But rather than make another Metroidvania platformer, the studio has entered the exciting world of action RPGs and it hopes to make a serious mark with its very non-Diablo approach to combat. For the next two weeks, we’re bringing you plenty of new details about No Rest for the Wicked as part of February’s IGN First. We’ll be offering you behind-the-scenes features and interviews with the developers, but we’ll start with perhaps the most important thing: gameplay. Today’s eight-minute video showcases No Rest for the Wicked’s exploration, combat, cooking, and – of course – an intense boss battle against the grotesque Warrick...

Sony has signed a deal with developer Far From Home to secure Forever Skies as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive due out at some point in 2024. First-person post-apocalyptic survival game Forever Skies launched on Steam in Early Access form in June, and when it leaves Early Access later this year, it’ll have a console exclusive debut on PS5 with a same-day release on Steam. Sony Interactive Entertainment is providing development support and funding as part of the partnership for Forever Skies, Far From Home said. Far From Home moved to reassure its PC players that the deal does not affect their version. “Forever Skies will make its console debut on PS5 in tandem with the launch of the full version on Steam once Early Access has...
It has been five long years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong on February 14, 2019, with a launch then planned for PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. And still, it remains one of the most-anticipated video games around. Not only is Hollow Knight: Silksong the third most-wishlisted game on Steam, behind only Hades 2 and Manor Lords, but it is one of the most-wanted Game Pass games following Microsoft’s deal with Team Cherry to bring it to its subscription service day-one. It’s also coming to the PlayStation Store, with a PlayStation 5 launch planned. In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, and announced that everything shown would be playable in the next 12 months...
Payday 3 developer Starbreeze Entertainment has admitted the heist shooter is performing "significantly lower" than it would like in both sales and player engagement. As reported by Game Developer, Starbreeze admitted to the struggle in its latest financial earnings. "Payday 3’s sales and player activity are currently at significantly lower levels than we would like," it said. Improving Payday 3 will be its "biggest focus and absolutely priority" going forward as it attempts to "ensure that that the game lives up to expectations". Starbreeze appeared hopeful about the future, however. "There are many examples from the game industry, where a problematic initial time on the market is turned into long-term success," it said. "There is...
Hot on the heels of a backlash against Diablo 4 portal reskins that cost the same as Palworld comes a new microtransaction horror: a horse bundle that costs more than Diablo 4 itself. This week, Blizzard released the new Vitreous Scourge mount, which can only be bought as part of a $64.99 bundle that throws in 7,000 Platinum. For context, Diablo 4 itself currently costs $41.99, and there is no way to buy the Vitreous Scourge mount outside this bundle. Here’s what you get from the Vitreous Scourge pack, per Blizzard: Diablo 4 players are debating the rights and wrongs of this bundle, working out its value given it includes 7,000 Platinum (7,200 Platinum costs $64.97 when bought on its own via the denominations Blizzard provides)...
