The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, without a patch on PC since July 2025, still suffers from issues that plagued it at launch, including worsening performance the more you play. In May last year, the tech experts at Digital Foundry said The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered suffered from significant performance problems, including hitches while roaming the open world, frame-rate problems, and even performance degrading slowly with more playing time, potentially due to a memory leak. Now, a year after the game’s release, Digital Foundry has revisited Oblivion Remastered to check in on how it performs, and found many of the same issues. “As you may have noticed, the game hasn't been patched on PC since its 1.2 update...
An intrepid Crimson Desert player has ventured far out of bounds and discovered a deserted but fully functional village. No-one knows what the village is for, but some are speculating it may be cut content, or even hint at a location for DLC. Pearl Abyss’ smash hit single-player open world game has an enormous map to explore, and for some who have put hundreds of hours into it already, that journey is over. But for a Crimson Desert player known as Riskbreaker, that was not enough. As shown in a clip on the Crimson Desert subreddit, below, Riskbreaker headed north on the back of a dragon and went out of bounds. Far north of Pailune, they found, is a fully functional, snow-drenched village. Riskbreaker visited the village a few times...
The Capcom community is getting misty-eyed after one fan shared how Pragmata reminded him of his late daughter. The subreddit for Capcom's new third-person sci-fi action game has been home to hundreds of messages from fans since it was announced in 2020. However, it's 55-year-old gamer TheRealDuke777's post from just five days ago that has rocketed to the top of its all-time list, and it's easy to see why. The post introduces readers to McKenzie Erin, his daughter who passed away at 8 years old in 2009. Placed atop side-by-side images comparing her to Pragmata's Diana is a simple title: "Missing My Little Girl." "She’s forever eight," TheRealDuke777 said. "This is her in the picture above." In a separate post, he explained that...
Battlefield 6 fans are divided after they noticed that publisher EA and developer Battlefield Studios added an option to pre-order the Season 3 battle pass almost two weeks before its launch. Confusion began when one player shared a screenshot of their findings on Reddit. The clear-cut image shared shows an in-game "Next Season Preorder" page, offering two pre-purchase options: one for the standard battle pass and one for the Battlefield Pro version. IGN can confirm the in-game addition, with Battlefield 6 players now able to purchase the Season 3 pass by simply following the button prompt on the bottom-left side of the battle pass screen. The original Reddit post, however, seems to be a bit out of date, as an updated version of the...
Creative Assembly has revealed more on its hotly anticipated strategy game, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, touching on the sheer scale of its battle maps and planets. In a livestream, David Petry, battle product owner, and Kevin McDowell, art director on Total War: Warhammer 40,000, ran through the region scale and visuals of planets, before showing off new battle maps. The Warhammer 40,000 section of the livestream began with a first look at what a planet is going to look and feel like via a hive waste world. In the Warhammer 40,000 universe, hive planets are jam packed with the people of the Imperium, most of whom eke out an existence that amounts to little more than war effort support and blind devotion to the Emperor. These are...
Everyone has their own expectations for Grand Theft Auto 6. While many hope it will live up to the dizzying standards set by GTA 5 and Read Dead Redemption 2, I’d actually like the next installment in the franchise to be less like recent hits and more like GTA 4, San Andreas, and the original Read Dead – games that had more restraint and, as a result, more focus. Above all, though, I wish the upcoming game would take a page from the textbook of one of the Rockstar’s most overlooked titles: Bully. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver and released in 2006, Bully is often described as “GTA with kids”. Instead of a career criminal, you play as unruly teenager Jimmy Hopkins. The setting isn’t some big modern metropolis ruled by rival gangs, but...
With Subnautica 2 finally getting its May 14 early access release date, it seems Steam's most-wishlisted game has joined the ranks of hits like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Slay the Spire 2 by sending some games with the same launch date scrambling to update their plans. Despite a painfully public falling out between developer Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, during which the entire management team was fired (Krafton has since been court-ordered to reinstate CEO Ted Gill), the hugely anticipated sequel Subnautica 2 will finally emerge from stasis later this month. Giving just two weeks' notice, however, has caused quite the kerfuffle; as PC Gamer reports, some games have already tweaked their release schedules, with some, like...

Surprise! Seven years after it launched — and almost six months after its sequel was released — The Outer Worlds is getting grenades. Developer Obsidian confirmed it would "be pushing a couple of updates to The Outer Worlds" in a detailed post on Steam — the first since June 2023 — before introducing the explosive throwables, which are already a staple in The Outer Worlds 2, later this month. As well as some tweaks to the Store pages — more on that in a bit — the studio has pushed out this first modest update merely to test the pipeline and "fix a few issues that are in the game," with a larger patch bringing performance fixes, lighting changes, a "host of other quest and gameplay fixes," and the grenades rolling out a little later...
Typical. You wait ages for a new Mass Effect and then three come along at once. Well, not quite, but there are three major contenders for Shepard’s helmet in various stages of production right now. Alongside the actual next Mass Effect from the studio currently calling itself BioWare, believed to be heading for a 2028 release, we have two complementary visions of spacebound role-playing: Exodus, an honest-to-goodness spiritual redux of Mass Effect Andromeda from actual ex-BioWare devs, and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a foray into something resembling Triple-A from the people behind Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, obviously based on the Amazon Prime series everyone loves but nobody watched. So Mass Effect fans, in theory, are set to eat...
Playground Games has published a glimpse at Forza Horizon 6’s multiplayer suite, which is dubbed ‘Horizon Play.’ A social post from the studio today explained that Horizon Play will be Forza Horizon 6’s “go-to suite for multiplayer game modes” and will feature returning events like battle royale-inspired The Eliminator, as well as new event types, like Spec Racing (where all players will be restricted to the same car) and Touge Showdown (which was recently outlined during a developer Q&A on Forza’s community Discord channel earlier this week). Forza Horizon 6’s final arrival is imminent, with the game officially available on May 19 (or May 15 for players who spring for the premium edition). If you haven’t already done so, you can...
Between Amazon's big Gaming Week sale, Woot's Spring Sale, and Best Buy dropping some exciting deals of its own, it's an excellent time to stock up on new games for your library. And while each of these retailers has had a nice variety of discounts to look through, there have been some great offers available on select Final Fantasy games, in particular. Above, you can see some of our favorite picks from these various sales, including Final Fantasy I-VI Collection on Switch for $49.72, Final Fantasy XVI on PS5 for $24.88, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, which is sitting at its lowest price right now at Amazon of $29.99. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 is another pick marked down to $29.99 at Amazon, and...
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer Warhorse Studios came under fire during a reddit AMA in which fans repeatedly questioned the team on its use of generative AI after it allegedly dismissed a translator to cut costs. In March, former Warhorse translator Max Hejtmánek took to reddit to reveal his position had been made "obsolete" as the studio pivoted to AI in a bid to save money and "make the company more efficient." At the time, Hejtmánek said the decision "came as a huge shock," adding: "The discussion about using AI for translating had frequently come up in the past, something I was always strongly and vocally against, but never to the extent that it might actually cost me my job in the future. It had, of course, crossed my mind...
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 live support has been officially extended into a third year, publisher Focus Entertainment has announced. The news comes after the explosive third-person action game hit a hugely impressive 12 million players, two years after its 2024 launch. “Lately, our updates have been very well received by the community, which really motivates us to keep up the momentum for the third year,” Focus said in a community post. The breakout success of Space Marine 2, set in the grimdark universe of Games Workshop’s tabletop war game, cannot be understated. Tim Willits, development chief of developer Saber Interactive, told IGN soon after the game came out that Space Marine 2 had changed everything for the studio as...
Subnautica 2 finally has a concrete release date for its early access, and it’s very soon. Subnautica 2 will enter early access on PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 14, 2026, at 8am PT. The game will cost $29.99, making for a very accessible price point in a crowded month for games. The deep-sea game will be released right before the highly anticipated releases of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and 007 First Light, but each game targets different audiences. “We’re excited for players to experience Subnautica 2, beginning May 14!” said Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds, in a press release about the date reveal. “Our team cannot wait to hear your feedback as the game evolves throughout Early Access.” Subnautica 2 has had a long and...
It's no secret that gaming on Windows 11 has been a little rough in recent years. Performance and usability problems have been plaguing the OS for a while now, but it seems like Microsoft is finally trying to do something about it. Microsoft has kicked off an internal initiative codenamed Windows K2, according to Windows Central. Rather than being a version of Windows itself, this project seems to aim to change the design philosophy of future Windows updates instead. Over the past several years, Microsoft has been focused on releasing new features as fast as possible, which has led to some incredibly awful updates. Just look at Recall, a Copilot+ feature which uses AI to save screenshots of literally everything you do on your PC so...
Star Wars Day is nearly here, and to mark the May 4th celebration, Fortnite, Disney and Lucasfilm are teaming up to bring brand new Star Wars games and rewards to Epic's battle royale behemoth. IGN went behind the scenes to find out more about what to expect from the stellar collaboration. The Games Three new Fortnite islands have been created offering very different Star Wars experiences. Back in March, Epic announced it was giving all Fortnite creators access to special Star Wars assets, and these are just some of the results. “After years of creating Star Wars experiences with Disney and Lucasfilm, we gave Star Wars’ heroes, worlds and assets to Fortnite creators so they could build the experiences they’ve always dreamed of...
As part of a wide-ranging keynote presentation at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced that the PlayStation 4 version of FFXIV will be phased out in the coming years. Yoshida emphasized that the next expansion, Evercold (which is due January 2027 along with Patch 8.0), will be fully supported on PS4. It will continue with some of the post-launch content updates as well, with him stating, "We currently believe we'll probably be okay up until about [Patch] 8.3," which would hit sometime in early 2028. "It's the size of the game that is the hurdle right now." Yoshida noted that, "While cooperation with Sony's wonderful engineers has allowed us to limit break a few more times than we thought even...

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced developers have confirmed a raft of returning features for Ubisoft's popular pirate game remake, such as whaling, bell diving, legendary ships and bar games — and revealed several new additions, such as the ability to put your pirate ship on autopilot. The features were discussed in a just-concluded reddit AMA with Black Flag Resynced's creative director Paul Fu and game director Richard Knight. Asked if all of the side activities from the original Black Flag will be brought back, including whale and shark hunting, as well as bell diving, Fu confirmed they will be "all available". Bar games, too, will be presented as in the original game — good news for Checkers fans. Black Flag's elite Legendary...
Running around a big city as you and your buds fight off ninjas, annihilate slices of pizza, and leap from rooftop to rooftop sounds like a perfect premise for a VR game, so it’s a pretty big bummer to see such a radical idea miss the mark in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Empire City. This flawed adventure isn’t without charm – hanging out with friends as anthropomorphic turtles is consistently funny, and the parkour elements that have you dashing across skyscrapers are pretty strong. But, like a pie that’s too light on toppings, Empire City just doesn’t hit the spot in the ways it needs to. With weak combat, thin quests that quickly outstay their welcome, and an impressive amount of bugs, this flimsy six-hour adventure left me...
Roblox is embracing AI to radically overhaul the look of the game, though some fans aren’t happy with it. Roblox has been around for 20 years, and has only grown in popularity with age. It is a dominant force of entertainment for younger gamers, especially since players are empowered to create their own games and share them with others. It has often appealed to a younger gamers because of its cartoon-ish art style, but Roblox Corporation is looking to shake things up to make the game feel more photorealistic. This glow-up comes in the form of a new AI-powered system called Roblox Reality, which will let players change the way the game looks, specifically making it more 'realistic'. At its core, it seems like a filter rather than...
When the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X was first announced, one of its biggest promised features was AutoSR, or automatic super resolution. And now, almost seven months after the handheld launched, the feature will be available to Windows insiders today. AutoSR functions similarly to Nvidia's DLSS or AMD's FSR, in that it takes a lower resolution image and upscales it to a higher displayed resolution. Just like these other solutions, AutoSR would be using an AI model to upscale your games, but instead of using special cores in the GPU, it's using the Xbox Ally X's NPU, or neural processing unit. Unlike other AI upscaling methods, AutoSR should work on pretty much any game. Because it isn't implemented on a per-game basis like DLSS, AutoSR...
One of the big announcements coming out of Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026 was that the critically acclaimed MMORPG would come to the Nintendo Switch 2 in August of this year. Director and producer Naoki Yoshida gave a live demo on-stage during the keynote presentation and outlined the separate FFXIV subscription model for Switch 2. But there weren't many technical details shared at that time. So, in a roundtable interview at Fan Fest, Yoshida confirmed a few things: the Switch 2 version of FFXIV will have mouse controls and it will target 30 frames per second. Yoshida was asked about Joy-Con mouse capabilities and whether or not he's done high-level raid content in testing, and said, "For the first part of the question about the...
The international super spy James Bond is certainly no stranger to video games. However, it would be fair to say that many Bond games have often focused more on familiar shoot-'em-up action spectacle while ignoring the rest of what makes 007 so much fun. There's so much potential for a Bond video game to really lean into those stealthy and socially charismatic encounters that the films capture so well. And that's what makes Hitman developer IO Interactive's long-awaited turn towards the James Bond franchise so appealing. Bringing the Hitman series' social-stealth and open-ended design for its take on James Bond, 007: First Light has the makings of an incredibly ambitious attempt at a fully realized spy story starring the iconic...
Windrose is a smash hit — it’s sold over 1.5 million copies in just over two weeks. The pirate survival adventure game hit Steam in early access form on April 14 and immediately shot up the most-played games chart on Valve’s platform. Now, developer Kraken Express has announced the impressive 1.5 million sales milestone. “The team at Kraken Express is incredibly grateful to all the captains that have set sail on their pirate adventures so far and excited to continue growing the game during the journey through Early Access,” the developer said in a statement. In an update released today (patch notes below!), Kraken Express added over 40 new building pieces to fill some gaps and allow players more consistent builds along with over 50...
It certainly seems like we’ve entered the era of the Tag Fighter. We’ve got 2XKO repping 2v2 tag action, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls planning to introduce the world to a 4v4 fighter later this year, and now Invincible VS representing a more familiar 3v3 structure. Developed by Quarter Up, a team comprised of much of the core group that developed 2013’s fantastic Killer Instinct reboot, Invincible VS is a fast paced, hard hitting, extremely mechanics-driven successor of sorts to Killer Instinct’s unique style of 2D fighting. That style may be polarizing for many, and its ancillary modes are a bit underwhelming outside of an impressive, but very brief story mode. All of this makes it another tough tag fighting contender, but one that’s...
Fortnite developer Epic Games has effectively hidden two in-game emotes featuring music by U.S. singer D4vd — but some fans say the company should go further, and fully scrub the content from the game. As of today's Fortnite update, which is now live, the "Feel It" and "Trophy Drop" emotes that include music by D4vd will no longer be heard by other players by default, unless a pre-existing in-game setting to hear "Confrontational Emotes" is manually switched on. The setting was previously introduced to mute some of the game's most toxic and most-used emotes, which players would frequently use to spam and grief others. Now, D4vd's music has been added to that list. 21-year-old D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, was recently charged...
The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo on Nintendo Switch 2 has attracted a mix of criticism, praise, and humor for removing most of the interior decor and background props, leaving rooms feeling somewhat minimalist compared to the PS5 version. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes its way to Switch 2 on June 3, however owners of Nintendo’s latest console can already try out the free demo which covers the beginning of the game, including the iconic Nibelheim flashback, which reveals the tragic events that occurred in Cloud’s hometown. YouTuber and voice actor Jon Cartwright recently uploaded a side-by-side comparison of the Switch 2 demo and Rebirth running on a standard PS5. Although the PS5 runs Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at 60FPS and Switch 2 only...
With Forza Horizon 6 imminently coming up on the, well, horizon, now is a good time for newcomers and returning players to get up to speed with the Forza Horizon story thus far. I’m serious. Stop making that face and hear me out: what if I told you that the Forza Horizon series does have a strong narrative through-line? That it is, in fact, an epic of almost biblical ambition? First of all, it’s a persistent universe full of recurring characters and callbacks. But more importantly, the story of Forza Horizon is about a bitter clash between two competing visions for civilization. A battle not just for a place on the podium, but for the very soul of humankind. A war between the car and the train. Yes, this is about to get more than a...
