Younger Generations Are Struggling to 'Connect' With the Final Fantasy Series Because It Takes So Long for New Games to Come Out, Yoshi-P Says
Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida, known to fans as Yoshi-P, has admitted that long development cycles right across the Final Fantasy series make it "harder" for new players or younger generations "to engage with" the franchise. Reflecting on the issue in a video interview promoting spinoff Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, Yoshida discussed how young people might have struggled to "connect" with the Final Fantasy franchise simply because it takes so long to release mainline entries. "I'm 53 now, and I've been playing since Final Fantasy 1 in real time... But for younger generations — people who grew up naturally accustomed to action-based combat and online competitive play — the recent entries in the series may have been harder...
Dragon's Dogma 2 Fans Think Capcom Is Teasing an Expansion Set in the Game's Northern Region
Capcom tweeted a piece of artwork to celebrate Dragon’s Dogma 2's second anniversary. Nothing unusual about that in itself, but fans were quick to notice details in the picture which may hint at a possible expansion. The artwork shows Dragon’s Dogma 2 characters including Brant and Sven partying it up underneath a “2nd anniversary” banner. However, sharp-eyed fans quickly homed in on two key details: a letter in the foreground and a mysterious character in the background, as summarized by user PaiDuck on Reddit. The letter is written in the in-game Gransys alphabet. Decoding this reveals that the letter says: “Sightings of Griffins Flying in From the Northern Region of Organ Have Been Confirmed.” Although mentioned in in-game text...
Dying Light: The Beast Announces Restored Land Update That Adds Lots of Free Content
Dying Light: The Beast developer Techland has announced a new edition of its first-person zombie-slaying game. It's called Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land, and it includes the full game, all post-release content, and new Restored Land content. It launches on March 26 and is free for existing players of Dying Light: The Beast. In that new Restored Land content, neither enemies nor loot respawn and thus the world is persistent. Killing all zombies in an area grardually restores the map to its pre-apocalyptic state, complete with non-zombified humans. Plus, there are competitive vehicular challenges called Roadkill Rallies, an optional One Life option for Restored Land that wipes your save file if you die. Watch Techland's new...
2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Blowing Up on Steam Thanks to a Big Sale and Positive Word of Mouth
A generous price drop has seen Call of Duty: Modern Warfare break its own Steam concurrent record over the weekend, hitting an all-new high of 61,667 peak players and making it more popular than last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on Valve's PC platform. Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare successfully rebooted the Call of Duty series, and was followed by the enormously popular battle royale, Warzone, which benfited from stay-at-home gaming amid the pandemic. While the 2019 FPS usually retails for $59.99, it's currently available for just $5.99 (£4.99 in the UK or €5.99 in select European countries) courtesy of Steam's Spring Sale — likely the lowest price it's ever been on Valve's digital storefront. Even when it first debuted on...
Resident Evil Requiem Developer Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, but Will Harness Tech to Make Game Development Processes
Capcom has clarified its current stance on generative AI in its videogames. The major Japanese publisher and developer behind popular series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter has revealed that while it doesn't use gen-AI assets in their games, it is exploring ways to use generative AI to streamline the game development process. On March 23, Capcom publicized the questions and answers from its latest shareholders’ meeting. In this session, Capcom was asked about its stance on using generative AI in game development. “We will not implement assets generated by AI into our games.” Capcom replied. “However, we plan to proactively use it as a contributing technology to improve the efficiency and productivity of the game...
Xbox Partner Preview Showcase Set for This Week, Microsoft Promises 'New Reveals'
Microsoft has announced an Xbox Partner Preview showcase for this week. It’ll provide updates for a number of games, and bring with it “new reveals.” As a Partner Preview, this showcase focuses on games coming from third-party publishers, so don’t expect news from Microsoft’s various first-party studios. However, what we will get is an update on Stranger Than Heaven, the new third-person action-adventure game developed by Yakuza/Like a Dragon creators Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, the Mass Effect-style game from Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader developer Owlcat Games, and GSC Game World’s Stalker 2. It'll last around 30 minutes, Microsoft said. In Microsoft’s announcement, it teased “new reveals” in addition to the...
'If I Wanna Be the Most OP Mfer Every Why Try to Hinder Me?' — It Turns Out That Flying a Dragon in Crimson Desert Is on a 15 Minute Timer and There's
As Crimson Desert players make their way further into the game, they’re coming to understand some of its more puzzling design choices. Chief among them is that creature mounts other than your horse are not permanent. And while the coveted endgame dragon is a permanent addition, its use has a 15 minute real-time time limit, and then a 50 minute real-time cooldown that's impossible to speed up. Some players of Pearl Abyss’ open world action game went into the experience wanting to ride around on the back of a dragon - as pre-release videos had hyped up - as soon as possible. Why wouldn’t they? With a dragon you can fly anywhere and breathe fire. It’s a game-changer for sure. As IGN’s guide to unlocking Crimson Desert’s dragon explains...
Masters of Albion Preview: Peter Molyneux Seems Like He’s Having Fun Making a God Game Again
Masters of Albion is an almost nostalgically cute and sassy vision of the god game genre that veteran game designer Peter Molyneux made his name in. It brings in the elements of a city-builder and an exploration-focused action-RPG. I got an early look at the game by watching Molyneux play for about 45 minutes and found it, honestly, pretty refreshing—despite whatever marketing phrases might surround this game so far, it looked like the team at 22cans is just making a game that they think might be fun to play. It's an oddly refreshing approach for a midsize development team in 2026, when every other game preview seems like it’s trying as hard as it can to blow your socks off. In Masters of Albion, you're a guy who's now a god—which as...
Bungie is 'Watching and Ingesting' Your Feedback About Marathon's Cryo Archive And Looking at 'Solutions' For Players Who Can't Get On During the Week
Marathon developer Bungie is "watching and ingesting" your thoughts and feedback about its new mode, Cryo Archive. Cryo Archive, which went live over the weekend, was players' first taste of a raid-like experience in Marathon. It contains gameplay mechanics similar to those seen in Destiny raids, including puzzles, in-match events, and evolving sequences of objectives. However, this is not just something that unlocks for all players; there are several requirements you need to meet in order to access Cryo Archive. Players need to be season level 25, have all factions unlocked (completing the initial liaison contracts), and queue in with a loadout value of $5k credits or higher. Oh, and it's only live on weekends, too. Now that the...
Crimson Desert Steam Reviews Jump to 'Mostly Positive' as Latest Patch Makes Significant Improvements
Crimson Desert Steam reviews are improving, moving up from ‘mixed’ to ‘mostly positive’ on Valve’s platform as developer Pearl Abyss releases game-changing updates. As IGN has reported, Crimson Desert launched big on Steam with nearly 250,000 concurrent players, but was met with a "mixed" user review rating. Much of the early criticism from players revolved around the controls, which some had called clunky and unnecessarily complicated. There were some performance complaints too. For example, PS5 owners joined forces to work out the cause of blurry visuals — an issue that was also on the PC version. Meanwhile, Pearl Abyss saw its stock price plunge nearly 30% in what was seen as a reaction to review scores from critics. A day after...
'I Just Want It to Be Known That I Did This Before the Patch' — Crimson Desert Players Who Beat Its Rock Hard Archery Minigame Before Today's Update A
Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss just released a patch that makes a number of significant improvements, but one that players are already praising lowers the difficulty of one of the hardest activities in the game: the archery minigame. If you’ve played Crimson Desert for a few hours you’ll probably have encountered this minigame, which challenges you to an archery contest against an NPC. The idea here is to be the first to score 10 hits, with targets popping up one after another. It’s worth noting the control scheme for firing an arrow, which involves holding a button to aim then releasing the button to fire. It is NOT a quick process — certainly not quick enough for what’s to come. The further into the contest you get (it costs...
Crimson Desert Patch Adjusts Some Keyboard/Mouse Controls, Adds Storage
Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss has outlined a few improvements that have been applied to Crimson Desert in a new patch released today. The studio has made some adjustments to both keyboard/mouse controls and gamepad, increased health restored from food and items, and introduced storage at the Howling Hill Camp to be able to stash inventory items in. “[W]e have been paying close attention to your experiences across issue reports, videos, livestreams, and community discussions,” the studio wrote in a new post detailing the patch notes on Crimson Desert’s official website. “Your feedback has been invaluable to us, and we appreciate the time and care you have taken to share it with us. This patch includes some of the improvements...

'We Should Have Clearly Disclosed Our Use of AI' — Crimson Desert Dev Launches 'Comprehensive Audit' of All In-Game Assets After AI-Generated Art Was
Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss has launched a “comprehensive” audit of all in-game assets after admitting the use of AI-generated images in the final release should have been disclosed. After the hotly anticipated open world action game launched this week, players were quick to spot signs and paintings that looked very much like they were generated by AI. IGN’s Brendan Graeber found further examples of in-game images with the telltale signs of AI. Crimson Desert’s use of generative AI art put Pearl Abyss in violation of Steam's AI Content policy, which requires generative AI use to be disclosed on the game's store page. There was no disclaimer on Crimson Desert’s Steam store page as of yesterday, but today one is included as...
Screamer Review
Screamer isn’t subtle. Screamer is neon-soaked, maximum volume arcade racing that requires both the finesse of Wipeout and the tactics and aggression of Mario Kart, where dicing for position demands that you think offensively and defensively at all times. Requiring the use of both sticks to fling your car around corners – plus actively shifting the semi-automatic transmission at the perfect time to build crucial boost energy – it’s also a fascinatingly busy racing game. Confidently different, Screamer makes a good case for itself in a genre rarely recognised for a great deal of innovation, despite being let down on occasion by a few dud tracks that slow the pace too much, some unbalanced missions in its central tournament mode, and no...

The developer behind the long-running sandbox video game is just moments away from pulling back the curtain to give fans a sneak peek at some of its plans for the year. We'll see exactly what Mojang's got cooking at the crafting table when the main show begins on YouTube and Twitch at 10am PT / 1pm ET. Crimson Desert Dev Promises Patch to Address 'Discomfort Many Players Have Experienced With the Controls,' Apologizes for Awful Keyboard and Mouse Exp
Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss has issued a message to players addressing complaints around the game’s controls, which have been widely criticized. In an online statement, Pearl Abyss said it was aware of the “discomfort” players are having with the controls, and confirmed a patch will address it. The developer did not say when this patch will be released, or detailed what it will actually do (most players are desperate for controller mapping and key binding support). Meanwhile, Pearl Abyss apologized to keyboard and mouse players for their experience playing the game (Crimson Desert recommends players use a controller instead of KB&M when you start, mindful, perhaps, of how fiddly its controls are). As IGN has reported, Crimson...
The Quadruple Death and Rebirth of Resident Evil 4
Having existed for three whole decades, the Resident Evil series naturally has a number of casualties – games that were halted and culled mid-way through development. Some of those lost games have been recovered by an army of faithful fans, such as the infamous “Resident Evil 1.5” and a Game Boy Color port of the classic 1996 original. But some lost Resident Evil games are purely ethereal – no build to recover, no demo to play, no grainy trailers captured on a MiniDV camcorder in Kentia Hall. Just rumors of what could have been. A ghost, like RE2 director Hideki Kamiya’s original vision for Resident Evil 3. Codenamed “Ship Bio,” the sequel starred HUNK, the gas-masked Umbrella mercenary from Resident Evil 2’s brutal bonus scenario The...
Resident Evil’s Big Nintendo Swing and a Miss
In a franchise as dense and prolific as Resident Evil, there’s bound to be a buffet congealing on the cutting room floor. The series’ abandoned games have become the stuff of legend; a discarded drafts folder that includes ports that pushed classic hardware past its limits and phantom prototypes for consoles that never made it to the West. While the name Resident Evil is often considered synonymous with PlayStation, thanks to the series getting its start on Sony hardware, Capcom’s survival horror has had a comfortable relationship with Nintendo across the years. While that collaboration is beloved for birthing the once GameCube-exclusive Resident Evil 4, there have been a couple of less-successful ventures on Nintendo consoles...
The Resident Evil Game That Died so That RE2 Could Live
Between unusually candid developers and an obsessive fan community that has spent years unearthing franchise history, we know that the classic Resident Evil games we love and cherish are the final survivors of a wild, iterative development process. The road to the 1996 original BIOHAZARD is practically unrecognizable, thanks to first person perspectives and cyborg supersoldiers. The creative partnership between director Shinji Mikami and his collaborator Hideki Kamiya would both shape and derail some of the most fascinating games Capcom never released. Games like Resident Evil 1.5. It wasn’t actually called that, of course. Back in 1996 it would have been considered Resident Evil 2 within the offices of Capcom. The studio had quickly...
Crimson Desert Players Think They've Found AI-Generated Art In-Game
Crimson Desert just launched yesterday to a bit of a chaotic and mixed reception from critics. That hasn't hampered its sales, but those two million players are starting to stumble into some concerning issues in their first day in Pywel, including the presence of what some are saying may be AI-generated art assets. A number of threads have popped up around social media of players questioning the human authenticity of certain art assets, specifically signs and paintings around the game. There's this painting of two swordsman with a lot of odd angles: There are these odd-looking gentleman with funky fingers: And while all of the above I could see there being an argument for just some funky proportions, the piece that really seems...
Cathedral Is the First Graphic Novel From Horror Legend John Carpenter
John Carpenter may be about as big a gamer as they come, but never let it be said the master of horror isn't still out there telling new stories. Storm King Comics has revealed John Carpenter's Cathedral, the first full-length graphic novel from the iconic director. Cathedral is a 120-page graphic novel co-written by Carpenter, producer Sandy King, and Sean Sobczak. The book features art by Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colors by Ryan Winn, and letters by Marshall Dillon. Check out the cover art below: Here's Storm King's official description of John Carpenter's Cathedral: “I saw it in a dream: a nightmare landscape deep underground filled with monsters too weird and sinister to exist in daylight,” said Carpenter in a...

Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King will join Fortnite tonight, as part of a new Game of Thrones crossover. This is the first time that George R.R. Martin's fantasy world has crossed over with Epic Games' battle royale, and it's happening now at the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2: Showdown — the game's latest iteration that's focused on in-game rivalries. Showdown launched yesterday with a swathe of new locations to explore and a battle pass that includes Bugs Bunny and numerous new versions of Fortnite favorites, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's returning character The Foundation and the game's popular Ice King. The arrival of Jon, Daenerys and the Night King is well timed, then, fitting with the...

Crimson Desert Dev Says It Will 'Work to Make Improvements Quickly,' as Sales Hit 2 Million in Just a Day
Crimson Desert has hit 2 million copies sold just a day after launch, although it has suffered a mixed response from critics and players. Pearl Abyss’ hotly anticipated open world action game launched across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S yesterday, March 19, and today, the Korean company announced that 2 million copies had been sold worldwide. In its announcement, Pearl Abyss said it was aware of feedback from players, and would “work to make improvements quickly.” "We are incredibly humbled to share that Crimson Desert has sold through 2 million copies worldwide," reads Pearl Abyss' statement.
