The Steam Machine is an awesome little system with serious gaming chops and cute aesthetics. They make a great entry-point for PC gaming if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines for a while and want that console-like experience, with some added PC functionality. But like everything else in 2026, they’re a bit expensive, and like everything Valve makes, hard to buy right now. Fortunately, along with releasing the Steam Machine to the masses, Valve also dropped an updated version of SteamOS which works well with AMD GPUs, making it much easier to build your own homebrew Steam Machine. Yes, Bazzite is an option and is arguably more fleshed out, but if we’re going to be building our own Steam Machine, let’s use the real deal and make it...
Skyrocketing Japanese indie hit Meccha Chameleon just surpassed 15 million sales, despite launching on Steam less than a month ago. Now, the paint-and-seek multiplayer game is getting a collaboration with a well-known Japanese star, and fans are abuzz with excitement over who it might be. Developed by a team of two in just two months (with zero marketing to boot, apparently), Meccha Chameleon is an online multiplayer game in which players are divided into Seekers and Hiders. In a twist on hide-and-seek, Hiders must paint their pintsized character’s plain white body to match their surroundings, while the Seeker team must hunt them down before time runs out. A huge hit with streamers, the game has prompted players to come up with some...
"As much as half" of the team working on The Elder Scrolls Online has been laid off, according to a report from Kotaku, leading many to wonder how the game will continue. Earlier today, Microsoft began carrying out its "reset" of the Xbox brand by laying off thousands of employees. Although no studios are shutting down, many are being offloaded from Xbox and being sold to other companies or given the chance to go independent. Bethesda is also expected to focus on a small handful of franchises, such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, going forward. Unfortunately, one of the studios hit the hardest by the rest appears to be ZeniMax Online Studios, though the total number of those impacted is unknown. This isn't the first time this has...

AliExpress is currently offering the Aoostar AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 6850H Mini PC for just $293.79 with free shipping after $35 off coupon code "FJUS35". It's sold by Aoostar direct and ships locally from a warehouse in the United States. This is the first time I've seen this mini PC drop below $300. In fact, Amazon still has the same system for $349. This is a great opportunity to pick up a complete, tiny PC package that includes nearly all the pre-assembled hardware, including the CPU/GPU and 24GB of RAM, and even USB 4 ports. The only component you have to supply is the SSD. Aoostar AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 6850H Mini PC for...
The boss of Bethesda has told staff the company must now focus on its “strongest franchises” amid sweeping layoffs across Xbox. Today, Microsoft announced 3,200 staff are set to lose their jobs at Xbox across the current financial year, with 1,600 of those layoffs happening today, July 6. In an email sent to staff, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma called it the most “significant” restructure in Xbox history, insisting Microsoft’s gaming business “is not healthy.” Overall, Xbox is losing about one-fifth of its staff as part of Sharma's push for growth. Bethesda is hit particularly hard by the layoffs, IGN understands, with staff across its many development studios either already told they are cut or facing an uncertain future. In an email to...

As Undead Labs continues development on State of Decay 3 under new ownership, it sounds like the zombie survival sequel won't be required to be on Xbox Game Pass. That's according to Game File, which reported on the studio's post-Microsoft future after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced layoffs that will affect 3,200 staff throughout the current financial year. One of the many headlines emerging from the restructuring news revealed that both Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will soon have new owners. "Ninja Theory and Undead Labs have entered terms to join new ownership with funding to complete and grow Senua and State of Decay 3," Sharma said. It's a bittersweet update that will see the developer behind the long-in-development third State...
You probably shouldn't bet on a Starfield sequel if news coming out of Xbox's reset is anything to go by. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Microsoft's restructuring of Xbox will see Bethesda focusing on a handful of franchises going forward: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake. These five franchises are expected to be a priority, with at least three of them already having games in development. There have been rumblings that another team like Obsidian could be set to work on a Fallout game, as Bethesda has its hands tied up with The Elder Scrolls 6, but nothing has been confirmed. However, many were quick to point out that Starfield is seemingly absent from Bethesda's priority list. The sci-fi game debuted...

Double Fine and Compulsion Games have issued public statements to confirm their status following word of today's enormous cuts by Xbox, discussing their respective futures as independent studios. While neither company will be shut down, neither will be part of Xbox Game Studios going forward either — and in an address to Xbox staff that confirmed job cuts of 3,200 employees this year, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma made no mention of how either company's workforce would also be impacted by their move to independence. Both Double Fine and Compulsion have been independent studios before, prior to their purchase by Microsoft during its company-buying spree — a bid to find firms who would help fill the Xbox Game Pass catalogue. Each developer will...
Microsoft has announced what it has called "the most significant restructure in Xbox history." Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed 1,600 Xbox staff will lose their jobs today, with another 1,600 set to be cut during the current financial year. As part of that, four studios are leaving Microsoft, and one may be sold or closed if it doesn't find a buyer. There is a lot of news flooding in around the Xbox layoffs, including staff, studio, and game changes. We'll report on it all live right here. Keep refreshing for the latest updates on the likes of State of Decay 3, Senua, Marvel's Blade, and the many staff who are working on them. Fans are worried about Starfield According to a new report from Bloomberg, Microsoft's restructuring of...
Ever since Microsoft’s near-$70 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2022, the wheels have been steadily loosening at Xbox, to the point where it feels like they could fall off completely any day now. From the devolution of Bethesda’s studios, including the closure of Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, to the cancellation of Perfect Dark and the end of The Initiative before it could even ship one game, it’s been a pretty bleak few years. And now Xbox’s creative force faces what new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma terms a “reset”, seemingly corporate speak for throwing overboard many of the development studios the megacorp has acquired over the years. The signs haven’t looked promising for much of the generation, but now, more than ever...
Microsoft has announced 3,200 staff are set to lose their jobs at Xbox across the current financial year, with 1,600 of those layoffs happening today, July 6. As part of the restructure, four studios are leaving Xbox to new management, and one is now in consultation over its future. In an email sent to staff and reviewed by IGN, Xbox boss Asha Sharma called it the most “significant” restructure in Xbox history, insisting Microsoft’s gaming business “is not healthy.” Overall, Microsoft's gaming business is losing about one-fifth of its staff. South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games and Psychonauts developer Double Fine Productions will return to management and transition to independent studios with their IP, catalog, and with...
A Steam game developer has called for the storefront's refund policy to be changed, after players who praised its bitesize game were still able to get their money back. Writing on X/Twitter, Zoroarts, the developer behind indie boat adventure Paddle Paddle Paddle, criticized Steam for allowing players to receive a full refund even after completing the game and leaving glowing reviews. Steam allows players to refund any title played for less than two hours, up to 14 days from purchase. It's a policy intended to ensure players are happy with their games up to a couple hours of playtime — but Zoroarts says it is also punishing makers of smaller experiences that players can quickly polish off. "This should not be possible," Zoroarts...
Palworld’s hotly anticipated 1.0 update launches this week, on July 10, and now developer Pocketpair has narrowed the release timing down, while issuing existing players an official recommendation on whether they should wipe their data for it. First up, Palworld 1.0. Pocketpair said it can’t give an exact release time, but it’s planning to launch the updated version of the game around midday on July 10, Japan time. Or, more specifically, 12.30pm Japan time. “Estimate time, this is NOT 100% the exact launch time,” John “Bucky” Buckley, communications director and publishing manager at Pocketpair, clarified in a Discord post. Assuming around 12.30pm Japan time, then, that’s 8.30pm PT on July 9, 11.30pm ET on July 9, and 4.30am UK time...
Academic researchers investigating how people use ChatGPT to generate fiction accidentally stumbled upon a super user repeatedly requesting stories featuring pregnant characters from Doki Doki Literature Club (as spotted by Automaton and reported on by ITMedia). In Walsh et al’s “AI Fiction in the Wild” study, University of Washington and University of Colorado Boulder researchers analyzed the WildChat dataset. It should be noted that WildChat is a set of over half a million anonymous English language conversations between users and ChatGPT, compiled with consent for use in research. “The most prolific user in the WildChat fiction dataset and the clearest example of an infinite story demander began a fanfiction narrative in the Doki...

PlayStation and Arc System Works' Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been blocked in 132 countries in what appears to be another example of Sony's PSN requirements barring players from access on Steam. Fans of the upcoming tag-team comic book fighting game have prepared to skip out on its August 2026 launch after it was revealed that a long list of regions will be blocked (via SteamDB). The full list of 132 countries includes Afghanistan, Haiti, Serbia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, and more. Why Marvel Tokon has been blocked in these areas has not been explicitly stated, but fans think they've figured out the cause. It just so happens that the PlayStation Network is unavailable to access in any of the countries on the list. It's a situation that...
Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has warned of a "frightening" digital future just days after Sony announced it would soon end production for physical PlayStation discs. Kojima shared his feelings about the shift away from physical media during a conversation at the Il Cinema in Piazza film festival in Rome (according to a translation by Genki). His comments follow the news that production of new PlayStation discs would come to an end in January 2028, and although he doesn't seem to directly reference Sony by name, it seems pretty clear what's on his mind. "Since production is ending in 2028, this is about video games, but I grew up with physical media, so I find it really sad," Kojima said. "Currently, I’ve...

Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2x2 has been delayed to early 2027. The studio behind the Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair remaster confirmed it will no longer make its previously planned 2026 release schedule, with a statement published by producer Shohei Sakakibara. Spike Chunsoft did not confirm exactly why it decided to delay Danganronpa 2x2 but did attempt to cushion the blow with first details about a new story remix feature called Slayhem Mode. "While development has been progressing toward a 2026 release, we have decided to move the launch to early 2027," Sakakibara said. "We will share a more specific release date at a later time. "We are continuing to work to bring you the best possible experience. We sincerely...
NetEase Games is celebrating the 4th of July with a Marvel Rivals swimsuit skin that comes bundled with Captain America's big package. It's been hard to avoid the comic book hero shooter for the last few days as fans flock to react to the First Avenger's new cosmetic. This latest in a line of revealing swimsuit outfits for Marvel Rivals' ever-expanding roster of heroes and villains includes beachwear for Loki and White Fox, too, but the Captain America skin really lays it on thick. Called Seaside Sentinel, the outfit gives Captain America a USA summer makeover just in time for the holiday. Those who purchase the cosmetic will allow Steve Rogers to ditch his usual battle-ready attire in favor of little more than an inflatable ducky...
You don't become one of the biggest, most profitable media franchises in human history without stepping on a few toes, especially when there’s literally a violent felony in your name. “Grand Theft Auto” was destined to collide with controversy. Lawsuits, international incidents, and full-on moral panics have followed in the wake of the series’ unparalleled success. And while there’s often a kernel of truth to some concerns raised over the violent, over-the-top nature of GTA, advocacy groups and opportunists have spent decades disingenuously trying to take one of gaming’s greatest series down before it warps the fragile little minds of our children. Anything with as much cultural significance as GTA can have an influence on someone...
"Significant" pay rises are on offer at Professor Layton developer Level-5 — if you can correctly answer questions about the company's games. That's according to Level-5's own CEO, Akihiro Hino, who has revealed that "knowledge quizzes" based on the developer's own games unlock bumper pay rises at the Japanese studio — but only if staff get the answers right. Headquarted in Fukuoka, with satellite offices in Tokyo and Osaka, Level-5 is perhaps best known for creating the puzzle adventures of Professor Layton, but it's also behind the Pokémon-like RPG franchise Yo-kai Watch, anime soccer series Inazuma Eleven, and Studio Ghibli-esque role-player Ni No Kuni. So, if you know a lot about all of those, maybe take note... Speaking to...
CD Projekt has hailed the success of Cyberpunk 2077, announcing it has now hit the 40 million copies sold mark. That’s up 5 million copies from the last time the developer announced Cyberpunk 2077 sales, back in November when it hit 35 million. It’s also one of the most dramatic comebacks in video game history. Cyberpunk 2077 suffered a disastrous launch back in 2020, with CD Projekt accused of misleading consumers with its pre-release marketing materials. The game came out in such a terrible state, particularly on consoles, that Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt spent years working to improve Cyberpunk 2077, rebuilding trust with its fans. While most consider the studio to have been successful in that, co-CEO...
Microsoft is using the fact that Halo: Campaign Evolved will offer a physical game disc in its box as a selling point. On social media, and in a blog post offering answers to frequently asked questions, Microsoft leads with the fact that Halo: Campaign Evolved's physical edition will include a game disc in its box. Weeks ago, this simple fact would have seemed obvious — but now, following a seismic one-two punch from GTA 6 developer Rockstar and PS5 manufacturer Sony, the video gaming landscape has been forever altered — and it is now a point that apparently needs clarification. In a post on X/Twitter overnight, Microsoft's official Xbox account posted a bullet point list of features discussed in a new Q&A. Top of that list...
Magic: The Gathering is into its second Marvel crossover in the space of a year, and just days after launch, Amazon has fresh stock of the much-sought-after Collector Boosters. They’re at market value, which, while ridiculously pricey, is better than you’ll find on the secondary market. You can net 12 packs for $474.99, which is almost the price of the Xbox Series S post-price-hike, making each pack around $39 each. Marvel Super Heroes Collector Boosters Are In Stock At Amazon Despite that price, you are almost infinitely more likely to get one of the most valuable cards in the set because Collector Boosters include full art and special treatments. That includes cards like The Mind Stone, Tony Stark // The Invincible Iron Man, Bruce...
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced publisher Ubisoft has confirmed the game's global release and preload times. After years of wait and more leaks than a galleon peppered by cannonballs, Edward Kenway's grand return is now just days away. This is the brilliant 2013 adventure remade from the ground up for PC and modern consoles, with shinier visuals, welcome gameplay improvements, and plenty of new story content. As has previously been announced, however, the game's original multiplayer mode and first-person modern day gameplay has been removed, in order to focus your time squarely on exploring the Caribbean. But when will you be able to get sailing? Well, head below to find out exactly when you can raise the anchor — wherever you...
Two developers who worked on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have given a transparent account of their experience working on the game. In a new interview with Bloomberg, two former Rocksteady Studio employees spoke out about the experience of working on the ill-fated Suicide Squad game. Designer Johnny Armstrong noted that the team was excited to take a move on from Batman after doing three back-to-back Arkham games but, once they started working on Suicide Squad, things started to change. Warner Bros. wanted a live-service game, and that was unlike anything the studio had ever done before. Axel Rydby, who became the game's director in 2022, noted that the prolonged development meant there was more pressure on the live-service...
Silent Hill has been going through a sort of revitalization in recent years. After leaving it dormant for far too long, Konami is finally doing what I'd like to see with more legacy series – letting talented external studios take a shot with their vision of what the series could be while having creative freedom. While Bloober Team did a faithful (and fantastic) remake of Silent Hill 2, NeoBards and writer Ryukishi07 made something truly special with Silent Hill f, which was an original story that was true to the series' core tenets. Sure, there have been absolute misses like the laughably bad movie adaption and a spinoff game in The Short Message, but hey, at least ideas are being thrown out there. However, I'm happy to report we might...
