Minecraft snapshot 13w36a
It’s that time of the year again. Hold onto your hats because we have brand new bugs features for you to explore! Introducing the first snapshot of Minecraft 1.7: 13w36a. What’s new, you ask? I don’t know! You tell me! We’re keeping this one a secret for now, but please report anything that you think is not an intended feature to our bug tracker. We strongly recommend that you don’t run the snapshots on an existing world if you want your landscape to stay pretty. You’ll get silly chunk borders and they don’t look pretty at all. I’d even go as far as to call them ugly. To get the snapshot, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and...

Minecraft World Generator Update
Hey hey! I thought it was time I gave you an update on the world generator changes we’ve been working on. The last time we did any major changes to the generator was back in March 2012, when the jungle biome was added. In case you don’t know what a “biome” is, it’s a climate zone used in the game to set what kind of surface the ground has (sand? grass?), whether it should rain or snow, what trees grow there, and sometimes also what kind of animals that are allowed to spawn there. The biome is also used to determine how hilly it should be, although this is a technical solution because biomes are generated before the elevation (the old generator created the elevation first, and decided on biomes based on elevation). One reason why we...

The most popular seeds on Minecraft Seeds Pro
Seeds are strings of numbers and letters that can be used as a starting point for Minecraft worlds. Use the same seed as another player to create your landscape and you’ll end up in an identical environment. Minecraft Seeds Pro is an app for iOS and Android that takes advantage of this. It’s a community-based resource that lets you search for specific seeds and discuss them with other users. You can also link your Minecraft account(s) to Seeds Pro and use it to keep in touch with friends. Soon, the app will include support for Minecraft videos too. We thought it would be cool to show off the most popular seeds on each platform. Use the names of each seed (in bold) to generate your level. Download the app for more seeds. Have fun...

This year we’re holding our third MINECON event, and now that tickets are sold out and we are deep into planning I thought I’d give a little bit more info into the event and how/why we do some of the things we do for it. MINECON is exciting to us. It’s a chance to bring together thousands of Minecraft players all in one place and give them a chance to meet each other and Mojang, and give people a really amazing experience involving a game that is so integrated into our lives. TICKET SALES We choose to keep MINECON limited to a relatively small group of people so that we can interact with them and give them the best experience possible. We split the ticket sales into 3 batches of 2500 to give people the most chance of being able to...
