GTA 6 is a “single-player experience,” Rockstar has confirmed in a note sent to IGN, as well as on storefronts where you can now preorder the game. This suggests the $80 base game does not include any new version of GTA Online, should such an experience be in the works. While many are assuming Rockstar plans to release a new and improved GTA Online at some point in the future, there remains questions over how it will be released. Will Rockstar release a new GTA Online for free within GTA 6? Or will it release it as a standalone experience, potentially charging more? Rockstar’s announcements today have made it clear that the existing GTA Online is the focus for now. A digital preorder gets you a free month of GTA+, with Rockstar...
I’ve always liked Dead or Alive – unfortunately, that sentence usually has to be followed by a “but,” lest people think you’re some kind of weird pervert. “Not like that!” you might yell. “I think the mechanics are rad!” It’s tiresome, and Dead or Alive 6: Last Round deserves better than that stuff dominating the conversation around it. I’ve spent the last few days shaking seven years of dust off, but I really want to put it through its paces and spend some more time in the ring before I slap a number on it – as well as test it out on live servers since this updated edition still doesn’t have rollback netcode for some baffling reason. Fighting games are complex beasts, even when they’re essentially just re-releases that bundle all of...
The boss of Japanese company Kadokawa has survived a shareholder vote on his future amid increasing pressure from an activist investor who believes the company has failed to capitalize on Elden Ring’s enormous success. Reuters reported on the result of a showdown between Kadokawa CEO Takeshi Natsuno and Hong Kong-based Oasis Management, which is now the company’s largest shareholder with a 13.76% stake, during a meeting of shareholders. While Natsuno has survived for now, Automaton reported that Oasis has just upped its stake to 15.25%, with plans to increase it further. Elden Ring is from legendary video game developer FromSoftware, which is owned by Kadokawa. It has sold an astonishing 30 million copies — a figure that is sure to...
The next salvo of content for Straight4 Studios’ Project Motor Racing has landed, as the development team continues to augment and improve its poorly received 2025 racing sim. Dubbed the GT Icons Pack, the latest add-on comes with nine new cars, plus a new track. Three distinct eras of classic GT and sports car racing are represented, with a trio of cars for each. The new cars are listed below: GT 60 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe 1965 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight Sports Car 67 1967 Chapparal 2F 1967 Ford Mk.IV 1967 Lola T70 Mk 3 GT 70 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 1973 Chevrolet Corvette C3 1973 Ford Capri RS3100 The pack also includes a circuit Straight4 has named “Rocky Knoll Raceway”...

In a new interview, Valve has conceded it has no bargaining power when it comes to buying memory from the limited number of companies that produce it at scale and control the bulk of the market. The company explained that doing anything other than agreeing to the price offered would see Valve cut off entirely. The explosive growth of the AI industry has come with gluttonous demand from AI businesses hoarding the same memory components that consumer electronics need. As demand outpaces supply, prices have shot up sharply. For its part, Valve explained that it has not secured contracts for memory components. “Look, there’s no contract; there’s nothing,” Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais told Gamers Nexus. “Like, those guys… they give...
Marathon has set a release date for its upcoming PvE mode, Vault Breaker, as well as the start of Season 3. Marathon will release its new "experimental" PvE mode on July 21st as part of the next mid-season update. This new mode will allow players to venture into Cryo Archive, the map used for the game's endgame raid-like content, to take on a series of challenging vaults. You'll be able to do this on your own or with allies, with a unique progression system that lets you grow more powerful ahead of the final vault. Bungie also revealed that Vault Breaker will have some specific requirements to participate. "Vault Breaker requires a special Sponsored Kit to queue up, and any gear or items you find stay behind when you exfil," says...
Bungie developers were apparently very passionate about a Destiny dating simulator, but leadership had no interest. Former Bungie community member Liana Ruppert dropped this piece of trivia on players after seeing a fan expressing interest in a Destiny dating sim. "Fun fact, the team actually made one, but leadership [gave a] very hard no [and felt] that nobody wanted romance or silliness. Very Dream Daddy inspired. It was fun getting to be a small part of it." Former Bungie senior narrative designer Robert Brookes chimed in, revealing that the concept came out of an event where the studio was allowed to prototype fun side projects for a week. However, a small group of devs continuously tried to scale it into a full-blown project...
Lords of the Fallen 2 will no longer release this year, as the game has been pushed to early 2027. CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski confirmed that Lords of the Fallen 2 will miss its fall 2026 release window in favor of refining and strengthening the game. "As development progresses, we have worked closely with the Gameplay Feedback Team, a dedicated group of seasoned Souls-like veterans within our Launch Creative Team," he said. "Their valuable ongoing input, combined with the team’s vision, has identified meaningful opportunities to further refine and strengthen the overall experience. These enhancements will benefit from additional integration, iteration, and polishing time, enabling the team to deliver the highest possible quality at...
Netflix is dipping its toe back into narrative adventure with the upcoming launch of Unhinged, a first-person horror game from Oxenfree developer Night School Studio. Unlike the teen drama of Oxenfree, Unhinged looks to be a more mature, blood-spattered affair. The game's story centers on two young women in neighbouring houses, as one attempts to escape a home invasion. Unhinged also features bonafide acting talent, in the shape of Stranger Things and Spider-Man: Brand New Day star Sadie Sink, plus The Batman and Divergent's Zoë Kravitz. Video game veteran Troy Baker rounds out the cast list, meanwhile. Rather than Netflix's previous experiments with interactive live-action experiences (such as in Black Mirror's Bandersnatch), this...
Amazon's Prime Day sale has already dropped some exciting video game deals for Prime members. My personal favorite? Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This fantastic RPG – on both PS5 and Xbox Series X – is currently just $39.99, which is $10 less than usual and its lowest price at the retailer. That makes now a perfect time to grab it if you haven't yet. This deal only available for Prime members, as with all Prime Day deals. But if you're able to snag it, you're in for such a treat. I'm in total agreement with The Game Awards that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the best game of 2025. Its story is unforgettable, its voice-acting is top-notch, its turn-based combat was an absolute blast to master, and that soundtrack? Catchy and...
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes no time getting into the good stuff. The back half of the preview demo had us running and jumping up a collapsing Cretan ruin, hurling this story’s new protagonist – Sophia – from one crumbling ancient pipe to the next while a monster best left unspoiled hunted us through the dark below. A half-hour earlier, we were fighting armed mercenaries in the sun, planting well-placed daggers into swaths of foes while solving intricate puzzles, and following a treasure map to find the next clue. This is the essence of Asobo Studio's third trip into its plague-soaked world, and the preview build ran us two nailbiting hours across two gorgeous chapters ahead of its upcoming August launch. Of course, if you've...
Hard as it is to believe, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is ten years old this year. That’s a long time to support anything, but Xenoverse 2 is one of those rare games that found a community that stuck with it. Nothing lasts forever, though, and Xenoverse 3 is looking to shake things up by moving the series to Age 1000. At SGF, I got to play Xenoverse 3 and talk with producer Masayuki Hirano about Age 1000, making a brand new Xenoverse game after 10 years, and why my character’s room was so damn messy. Turns out, like almost all things Dragon Ball, there’s a reason. My demo started with a character select: Earthling or Saiyan. Now, normally, I’d pick a Saiyan. I mean, who doesn’t love your hair getting progressively bigger and more yellow as...
If you ask me, Disney has been pretty smart in recent years about its Star Wars video games. Instead of relying solely on its small group of internal development teams, as it did a long time ago in a gaming galaxy far, far away – or signing an exclusivity deal with one single publisher, as it did last decade with EA – The Mouse now hands its licenses, Star Wars included, to absolutely anyone with a great pitch. And we’ve already had one Game of the Year-caliber masterpiece come out of this strategy (2024’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, from the Riddick and Wolfenstein veterans at MachineGames). And so when Lucasfilm first announced Star Wars: Galactic Racer earlier this year as a collaboration with developer Fuse Games – who...
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has today received a huge free update alongside the Skitarii class DLC. While fans will be most excited about the arrival of the $11.99 Adeputus Mechanicus unit to the first-person action game, the free update makes a number of important changes to go alongside it. The headline here is the addition of new enemies, the Scab and Dreg Vanguards. These are human melee bruisers who use breakable shields. The Scab variant has a harder more durable shield that will last longer, but comes in more scarce numbers, while their Dreg are more numerous but only equipped with scrappy handmade shields that are more prone to breaking. There's also a new event, starting today, in which players can join missions with the...
From Messi to Ronaldo, most of football’s greatest modern players have graced video game covers over the years. But which is the best? Well, there’s no real scientific way to decide this, so I’m pretty much going on aesthetic-based vibes completely. I’ve also pretty much stuck to the big two football series from the past few decades — FIFA/EA FC and Pro Evolution Soccer — but believe me, the temptation to stick the likes of Peter Beardsley’s International Football was certainly there. So, without further ado, let’s look at what I think are the 10 best football game covers. 10. FIFA Road to World Cup 98 — David Beckham Few people in the world, at least certainly in England, were as famous as David Beckham was in 1998. Part of a...
Amazon's Prime Day sale has officially kicked off, and I've already found a great deal on one of my favorite games from this year: Resident Evil Requiem has dropped to just $55.99 for a limited time only. Not only does this deal price apply to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X copies, but also to the Nintendo Switch 2. While this deal price is great to see across the board, it's the Switch 2 edition that's really caught our eye. It's the first time we've ever seen a discount on the Switch 2 version, plus if you're an Amazon Prime Member, you can get that version even cheaper at $53.19 right now. Considering this is the first time it has been discounted at the retailer, it's well worth making a move on it while it's still available...
Half-Life 3 may not be here yet, or ever arrive, for that matter, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t already plenty of incredible games from developer Valve Corporation to play. And now with the brand new Steam Machine console to experience them on, what better time to get stuck in? The custodian of Steam may not be anywhere near as prolific as it once was when it comes to actually making games, but it still has a ridiculously strong list to pick from – some of which are daily destinations for hundreds of thousands of players. But which are the best? Well, that’s exactly what we’ve tried to decide here as we take in the importance, endurance over time, and innovation each of these games has brought to the table over the past three...
Valve has explained why it refuses to subsidize the Steam Machine, which launched yesterday priced at least $1,049. IGN has an interview with Valve discussing the price of the hardware and the impact the ongoing ‘RAM apocalypse’ had on the company’s pricing plan. But ahead of this week’s announcement, some had called for Valve, which earns billions of dollars in revenue each year through PC games platform Steam, to subsidize the cost to make it a more accessible device and theoretically at least, have a greater number of people buying games through their ecosystem. In November last year, Larian publishing director Michael Douse, who is in charge of business development regarding the likes of Steam megahit Baldur’s Gate 3, took to...
Game of the Year winners and nominees come and go, but some games simply never seem to age. This elite group doesn’t just hold up technically against modern releases. They also boast gameplay loops, mechanics, and design philosophies that remain endlessly enjoyable years later. Whether through timeless art direction, exceptional game design, or unforgettable worlds, these classics still feel every bit as good to play today as they did on launch day. Here are ten games that have aged like fine wine and remain worth playing in 2026. Alien: Isolation Arguably the best Alien game ever made and one of the finest survival horror titles of the modern era, Alien: Isolation remains a masterclass in tension and atmosphere. Visually, it...
As hide-and-seek paint game Meccha Chameleon rockets past seven million copies sold, some players have gotten so invested in finding the perfect hiding spot that they've started recreating the Mona Lisa in-game. Developer lemorion_1224's hit multiplayer game isn't just the latest 'friendslop' experience to reach viral status – it might also be one of the biggest. It took less than a week to reach two million sales after its June 9 launch on PC via Steam, and it's now picked up another five for a total of seven million in its second week. The stats get even more impressive on its SteamDB page. Meccha Chameleon reached a concurrent player peak of a little more than 20,000 users in its first day on the market. Its all-time peak...
Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland and Zendaya really enjoy Insomniac Games' Spider-Man games. In a recent interview with IGN Benelux, Holland and Zendaya were asked whether or not the games were used as inspiration for certain sequences in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Although they didn't really answer the question directly, they did note that they're big fans of the game. "We love the games, the games are absolutely sensational," said Holland. "I'm not very good at playing video games. I get very frustrated because I want to play it all by myself, and he'll try to come [help me]," added Zendaya. The two then explained how Zendaya had troubles with a section in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In the back half of the game, Mary Jane...
Warframe community director and live ops lead Megan Everett has said that "no one is celebrating" the "heartbreaking" news that Sony pulled the plug on Destiny 2 support. Both sci-fi shooters have had just enough in common to keep them in the same conversation for more than a decade. It's a friendly competition that carried developers Digital Extremes and Bungie from the 2010s into the 2020s but, when the latter announced it had shuttered all plans for future updates in May, both communities largely decided to lay down arms. As Destiny players come to grips with the end of what has evolved into a go-to video game for thousands, some members of the Warframe team have chimed in to bid them farewell. Everett elaborated on her feelings...
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to kick off its “Summer of Action” in the only way fitting of the name: by adding Nicolas Cage to the game. In a Dream Scenario for some, players will now be able to Face/Off with and play as the Hollywood actor, as you pick up 8MM ammunition when you’re feeling Wild at Heart and decide that it’s Time to Kill, proving you’re the Lord of War before using those Longlegs to sprint away from the scene and be Gone in 60 Seconds. The shooter series has welcomed so many celebrities into its arms over the years that it may feel like Deja Vu, but no, Cage has never appeared in the game before — somewhat surprising for such a National Treasure. OK, that’s enough of that. Season 4 Reloaded sees arguably the...
Fortnite is enjoying an influx of players keen to hunt the game's Pokémon-like Sprites — and five more species arrive this week. More than 1.2 million players were active in Fortnite's core battle royale modes on Saturday afternoon, as the game hosted a pair of two-hour "Power Hour" events where rare Sprite spawns were significantly boosted. Outside of this month's big live story event, this was Fortnite's biggest battle royale player count since March. And outside of Saturday's spike, battle royale player numbers are up noticeably on the end of the game's previous season. Fan have really taken to Fortnite's new extraction, collection and levelling mechanics, which see players find gameplay-impacting Sprites, level up their power...
After months of speculation, the Steam Machine is finally here, starting at $1049 for the 512GB version. If that price is still within your budget, you can reserve it now on Steam. That $1049 is just the starting price, getting you just the 512GB version of the mini gaming PC without the Steam Controller. If you do want to add the Steam Controller, there is a bundle for $1128, which means you're getting Valve's controller for $79, rather than the $99 it'll cost you by itself. If 512GB of storage isn't enough for you, Valve is also selling a 2TB model, which will set you back $1349 for just the Steam Machine, or $1428 bundled with the Steam Controller. That's a steep price, to be sure, but Valve is packing two additional faceplates...
The Steam Machine is finally here after looming on the horizon for the last eight months or so. And while Valve has been adamant that the Steam Machine is an entry-level gaming PC, rather than a new, fourth player in the console space, this little box has captured the attention of console and PC gamers alike. At $1,049, the Steam Machine is unlikely to win over the hearts and minds of PlayStation and Xbox faithfuls, but it is easily the best living room PC I’ve ever used, despite being a bit weaker than either of the base consoles. But what’s truly impressive is that it’s able to do that while also being one of the best ways to just get into PC gaming in the first place. PC gaming has always been expensive, and the Steam Machine is...
The Steam Machine got announced earlier today with an eye-watering $1049 asking price for the entry-level 512GB model. But that's probably not the price Valve had in mind for its mini gaming PC. When I got a chance to sit down with Valve Engineers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Yazan Aldehayyat last week to talk about the Steam Machine, I asked them what the Steam Machine would have cost before the current memory market. And while neither of them would give me a hard number, I was told that it was "probably similar" to the price increase that the Steam Machine experienced last month. Some quick napkin math pins that Steam Deck price increase at around 35-36% above the handheld's original $549 asking price, resulting in the new price of...
Just a couple months after Valve launched the Steam Controller, the Steam Machine has finally arrived. And while the fledgling mini-pc/console hybrid is a bit more expensive than we once thought it would be, Valve was able to still able to get it in at a somewhat reasonable price – at least for a mini PC. And, now that we've had a chance to test it, we were impressed by just how easy it was to use, and how well it performs in games, despite its limited hardware. Ever since the Steam Machine was revealed in November 2025, Valve was telling us that it was just another option for folks hoping to get into PC gaming. Recently, we got a chance to sit down with Valve Engineers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Yazan Aldehayyat to discuss the Steam...
