Legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert has announced Thimbleweed Park 2, a sequel to his 2017 pixel-art point-and-click adventure game about two Mulder and Scully-like characters (not to mention a host of other playable heroes) solving a murder mystery, including hundreds of puzzles along the way. It's in development for PC (on Steam and GoG), Mac, and Linux, and it's due out in early 2028. "I have good news and bad news," Gilbert posted on his GrumpyGamer blog. "First the good news. The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028. We will self-publish with the help of a private investor. Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the...
Dead Cells developer Motion Twin has responded to acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s thoughts on the game — specifically, his request for a mode without respawns. Dead Cells is one of the better known roguelite games out there. Released in 2018, it helped popularize the roguelite-metrovania genre and continues to see support from Motion Twin, receiving consistent updates, crossovers, and content years later. It’s also a critically-acclaimed title, with IGN giving it a 9.5 out of 10. It’s so well-loved that even Pan’s Labyrinth creator Guillermo del Toro can’t get enough of it… though he did have some requests for its developer. Speaking with IGN as part of our IGN30 Icon Series, del Toro spoke about how “interesting” the game...
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's new PS4 and PS5 port has been compromised by a hacker who's making the game unplayable for some. Reports are spreading that a player known as 'C Isn't Sharp' is going around lobbies in Black Ops 2 and making everyone present "Prestige 16," which doesn't technically exist. There are 10 normal prestige levels and an 11th one for "Master Prestige," but this essentially sends you far past that. The hacker also modifies your classes before booting you from the lobby with an unfinished custom message that just reads, "You've." Some players have claimed that this exploit is now preventing them from actually playing the game, as they can't matchmake lobbies afterwards. Others have also claimed that weapon camo...
Bethesda has unveiled a new logo to celebrate the studio’s 40th anniversary. “40 years of adventures” Bethesda said. “Here's to the worlds we've built together... and those still to come. We're marking the occasion with a logo inspired by our roots.” That‘s a nod to Bethesda’s early life, long before it became a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media and, later, owned by Microsoft. It wasn’t its first game, but 1991 PC game The Terminator is still fondly remembered by fans old enough to have been messing about with MS-DOS at the time. The Terminator: 2029 followed in 1992, and The Terminator: Rampage in 1993. Simpler times. The very first The Elder Scrolls video game, by the way, came out in 1994. The Elder Scrolls: Arena would set Bethesda on...
An innocent Canadian wrongly served 18 months in prison after Wisconsin police misspelled his Skyrim-inspired internet username. Brandon Klayme from Halifax, Nova Scotia, was arrested in 2020 on charges of child luring and possession of child sex abuse imagery, after his username on chat app Kik was tracked down by U.S. cops. But police made an error when identifying that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim username, Klayme's lawyers have now proven, finally securing their client's innocence six years later — and long after he served 18 months behind bars for crimes that someone else committed. The case's 12-year-old victim identified the man talking to them on Kik as operating under the username "fus__ro_dah," a reference to Skyrim's infamous...
The Elder Scrolls Online is undergoing some setbacks as a result of Xbox's recent reset and associated layoffs. There has been a lot of speculation over the future of ESO for about a month now, and the team behind the game has stepped forward to clear the air. In a new blog post from game director Nick Giacomini, it is made clear that Elder Scrolls Online will continue and isn't on the verge of being shut down. "Recently, we've been through a number of organizational changes and departures of teammates who helped shape The Elder Scrolls Online," he wrote. "We are profoundly grateful for everything they've contributed to the game and the community we've built together. "At the same time, we've seen a lot of questions about what these...
The Steam Machine has been out for about a month, but despite the eye-watering price, the console-PC hybrid has quite an extensive reservation list. And now Valve has come out with a blog post, saying anyone currently with a reservation list email will be able to buy the Steam Machine by the end of the year. When the Steam Machine first came out, Valve put up a page allowing people to reserve the Steam Machine. Then, accounts were chosen at random and either placed on a reservation list or a waitlist. It's not clear how many people signed up for a Steam Machine, but it was apparently enough that it's going to take Valve the rest of the year to fulfill the orders. It doesn't seem like every region has the same level of demand, though...
It's almost hard to believe it's been seven years since the last new mainline Gears of War game, and as one of Xbox's marquee franchises, it seems a lot is riding on the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day. I recently played about 10 hours of its revamped multiplayer, and yup, it sure is Gears of War. Even with that long gap, it feels both extremely familiar and refreshing for reasons you may not exactly anticipate. The meaningful changes I've noticed so far are perhaps more subtle – specifically, the refined control scheme which shined in both the Versus and new Horde Siege modes I played. There's a lot to dig into, so gear up for my breakdown on how the big, chunky COG boys are back. I'm going to mostly dive into Horde Siege mode, since...
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a third-person action RPG that has major Mass Effect vibes. But what’s different with this game is that your gear, not your class, defines the way you fight — and we’ve got exclusive details and screenshots to tell you how it all works. In Osiris Reborn, your origin shapes your captain's journey and mechanically defines where you find yourself starting, but it doesn’t define how you have to play. That is to say, character creation does not lock you into an RPG class. So, instead of choosing a fixed role, you develop your captain across four skill trees, but the weapons and gadgets you equip and upgrade ultimately define how you fight. At the start of the game, you pick a specialization that sets your...
Baldur’s Gate 4 appears to have developers running scared because they’re worried about meeting expectations set by Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3. But one developer has said they would consider making the game a “great challenge” — although they’d avoid simply replicating what had gone before. After Larian decided against making Baldur’s Gate 4 and left Dungeons & Dragons behind to work on Divinity, fans have wondered which studio might be capable of taking on perhaps the toughest sequel in all video games. Among the studios that are often mentioned in online debates about who to turn to is Owlcat Games. Owlcat is the developer of a number of well-received role-playing games including cRPG Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, which was compared...
Motorsport is an incredibly dangerous thing to take part in. Think about it: you’re strapping yourself to a machine that harnesses the energy of explosions to propel you forward at speeds that, should you strike another object, will likely prove lethal. And yet so many racing games fail to convey the white-knuckle line between thrill and fear. A whole generation of digital drivers have grown up with on-screen racing lines that show them the perfect acceleration path through a hazardous corner and rewind systems that negate the impact of crashes. I did not expect Star Wars: Galactic Racer to be the game that addresses those problems. And yet it all makes sense – in a galaxy far, far away, motorsport takes place at vastly higher speeds...
Owlcat began life as a small developer, as so many do, but with plenty of expertise on the team. 2018's Pathfinder: Kingmaker, its first game, was successful, so the natural thing to do next was to make a bigger and better sequel. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous followed in 2021. Another Pathfinder might have followed, but Owlcat took a significant step forward with 2023’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, a sort of Baldur’s Gate 3 set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe game, rougher around the edges than Larian’s masterpiece, but no less meaty and with just as good writing. It’s a fantastic role-playing game, with plenty of choice and consequence. Many feel it’s one of the best Warhammer 40,000 video games ever made. It might even be...
Game Freak might be best known as the studio behind Pokémon, but Beast of Reincarnation looks like something very different indeed. This new action RPG swaps colourful creature collecting for a bleak, beautiful vision of post-apocalyptic Japan, where a lone warrior and her dog must survive a world twisted by blight. From the Beast of Reincarnation release date and story details to its one-person, one-dog combat system, PC specs, pre-order bonuses, and latest trailer, here’s everything you need to know before Emma and Koo begin their journey. Beast of Reincarnation Release Date Beast of Reincarnation launches on August 4, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On PC, Beast of Reincarnation will be available via Steam and...
As promised, we have the full reveal of the Helldivers 2 x Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond today, a first look at the weapons and armor it will include, and a release date. “Roll the dice to break the traitorous enemies of Super Earth in this historic crossover Legendary Warbond,” developer Arrowhead said. “Fight for Liberty without measuring distance, line-of-sight or your target’s chances of survival with potent weapons, formidable armor, and so much more.” In a post on Steam, Arrowhead said the Warbond is inspired by the Astra Militarum regiment, the Cadian Kasrkin, which most fans had predicted. “This deployment of advanced firearms, armor, patterns and more, has been recreated in honor of the valiant Helldivers who gave...
Ubisoft's excellent Assassin's Creed Odyssey is enjoying a big spike in active players, following the launch of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Nolan's Ancient Greek blockbuster is on track to make a billion dollars at the box office, and has clearly sparked further interest in its setting. Indeed, engagement statistics published by Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliot show that the film's launch has also driven thousands of players back to Ubisoft's 2018 epic. Assassin's Creed Odyssey has nearly doubled its active userbase over the past week across a combination of PlayStation, Xbox and PC via Steam. Xbox engagement was particularly strong, up from 36,000 to 84,000 daily active users, a leap of 134%. In what seems to be a canny...
Cyberpunk 2077 is nearly six years old, but fans are still reminiscing about some of its best parts, and its developers are still revealing fresh insights into its creation. Warning! Spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077 follow… The Hunt is a side quest where you join forces with River Ward to investigate a serial killer called Anthony Harris, who River believes has kidnapped his nephew, Randy. The player picks up snippets of insight into Harris’ character as they search for clues as to Randy's whereabouts. You learn how Harris grew up and delve deep into his psychology through detective...
From the D-Day landing that opened Medal of Honor: Frontline to the Battle of the Bulge that capped off the American campaign in the original Call of Duty, it feels like videogames have already told and retold most of the major conflicts that occurred during the second world war. However, while players have previously stepped into the combat boots of soldiers on the ground in various settings from Sicily to Stalingrad, the events of China’s War of Resistance against the Japanese invasion have largely been overlooked. That’s where The Defiant comes in. This story-driven singleplayer shooter from developer Hangzhou Hoothanes Entertainment is set to explore the prolonged and devastating conflict from the perspective of multiple Chinese...
Giants Software and Straight4 Studios have launched a new, free DLC pack alongside a “significant new update” for Project Motor Racing. Update 2.1 includes a total rebuild of the handling model for the GT3 and GT4 categories, Alpha triple-screen support on PC, and more. The ‘Aussie Rivals’ pack brings one of the greatest rivalries in motorsport to Project Motor Racing for the first time, introducing the 2013 Holden VF Commodore and a “completely reworked” 2013 Ford Falcon FG. These Australian domestic models represented the last truly local clash between Holden and Ford, before Holden transitioned to the imported ZB Commodore shell in 2018 and the death of car manufacturing in Australia saw the Supercars series subsequently shift to...
EA’s CEO got an $8 million raise thanks to how well Battlefield 6 performed — four months after the devs responsible for making the game got laid off. Battlefield 6 was the highest-selling game of 2025, beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and NBA 2K26. It sold over seven million copies in just three days and was the best-selling title across both Xbox and PC at the time. However, in March 2026 — just five months after celebrating the most successful launch in the Battlefield franchise ever — EA laid off an undetermined number of employees across all its Battlefield teams to “better align” itself around “what matters most to our community.” Now, come July, one of EA’s SEC filings have been released, showing that CEO Andrew Wilson’s...
The Steam Machine has been out for a little over a month, and while I spent the first couple of weeks testing it against the PS5 and different graphics cards, I wasn’t sure how or even if it’d fit into my daily rotation. But then this last weekend I came down with a cold, and I fell back in love with this little computer. Plugging it into my TV while laying on the couch, turning off the meters and just playing my Steam library? Let’s just say I see the vision. I still don’t think it’s necessarily worth the high price for everyone, especially if you don’t already have a robust PC gaming library, but now, all I ever want out of this thing is to pick up whatever PC game I’m playing at my desk, and run it on the TV without tying up my...
There's a chance that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may not have a physical edition, but the director of the game is actively pushing to avoid that. When speaking with GamesRadar, director Naoki Hamaguchi was asked about the state of physical games and whether or not Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will receive a physical disc. Given the game is still almost a year away from release, Hamaguchi was unable to make any guarantees, but admitted that it is something important to him. “We’re still having internal discussions on what the exact SKU product lineup is going to be for Revelation,” said Hamaguchi, “So, I can’t say anything particularly definitive at this point in time. But I am working to make the arrangements to allow us to have some...
Speaking with IGN as part of our IGN30 Icon Series, Guillermo del Toro opened up about his favorite games — and while he gushed about many, one definitely stood out from the rest. It’s no secret that Guillermo del Toro is a die-hard gamer. He’s spoken at length about his favorite titles, most recently retweeting a sculpture of Resident Evil 2’s Super Tyrant with an excited, “Aaaaah~.” We got the chance to sit down with the acclaimed filmmaker at San Diego Comic Con 2026, where he celebrated the 20th anniversary of Pan's Labyrinth. During our chat, del Toro waxed poetic about the many games that have impacted him over the years, citing titles like Journey, Left 4 Dead, and Monument Valley. “Death Stranding made me cry,” he told us...
Halo: Campaign Evolved already has a bunch of mods, some of which are genuine quality-of-life upgrades, while others make silly additions, such as replacing Master Chief with Iron Man and CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Halo: Campaign Evolved officially released earlier this week, and fans were quick to back all of its layers. Players swiftly discovered that the game has a secret ending, which seems to point to a remake of Halo 2. However, people are now using the foundation of Halo's Unreal Engine debut to mod the game to oblivion. Some of these mods are actually very helpful and make the game better, while others are, admittedly, very absurd. For starters, Halo: Campaign Evolved has a mod where you can swap out the ever-stoic...
Don't hold your breath for remasters of the original Dragon Age trilogy - they're pretty much impossible, BioWare's former Dragon Age boss has said. In an interview with FRVR, ex-Dragon Age series producer Mark Darrah was asked about the chances of a remastered collection of the first three Dragon Age games, similar to the Mass Effect collection. He noted that while he had previously envisioned a "Champion's Trilogy" that would attempt to unify all three games (since they're quite different from each other), he doesn't think it's likely anymore. Why? Because no one currently at BioWare understands the engine those games were built on, and as a result, it also can't be outsourced because all that institutional knowledge is gone...
“A good open world has a meaning,” Konrad Tomaszkiewicz tells me. And he’d know a thing or two about that – he directed The Witcher 3, after all. And so for The Blood of Dawnwalker, his upcoming open world RPG at new studio Rebel Wolves, it was clear that he and his team had to build upon the foundations of his previous project. “That was our starting point, that it needed to have meaning.” “When I'm exploring it, can I learn more about the lore, more about the story of this region, about the people who are living there?” he asks, all things that make The Witcher 3’s world rich and immersive. “When I'm playing open world games where I just have activities which give me XP and items, I don't get this enjoyment and fun from it.”...
Keanu Reeves has never guest starred on The Simpsons, but if he did, this is how his iconic assassin John Wick might look. Why has Wick been Simpson-fied? Well, of course, it's because he's the star of a new Fortnite update — specifically for its popular Reload spinoff mode. Players will be able to meet and unlock Wick for themselves (as long as they own the current battle pass) as they delve back into the game's excellent recreation of Springfield. Fortnite first hosted The Simpsons' home town during a popular mini-season at the end of last year. Now, the map is back for the game's Reload offering, which grants players three lives and quick respawns before they're out completely. With a match size of 50 players and Simpsons items...
From a distance, The Relic: First Guardian looks like it could be a solid addition to the growing ranks of B-list action games that punch above their weight. The sort of recommendation you drop your friends who are looking for something to scratch that itch between big games to let them know you’re into this action-game lifestyle, for real. Upclose, The Relic is the exact opposite. It’s clearly inspired by bigger games within and around the FromSoftware lineage, but doesn’t even come close to meeting the high bars they set. It doesn’t even execute its own goals well – shoddy and broken throughout, barely propped up by its engaging combat and let down by how lackluster or straight up unacceptable every other piece of it is. Visually...
The Ascent is set for a surprise major update to coincide with the game’s fifth anniversary — and it sounds like a sequel is on the way. Neon Giant’s twin-stick action RPG impressed players upon its 2021 release for its punchy action, highly detailed environments, and beautiful cyberpunk aesthetic. In IGN’s The Ascent review, we said, “The Ascent’s satisfying gun-tastic action-RPG gameplay loop mixes with its beautiful cyberpunk aesthetic to create an overall enjoyable experience. Neither its story nor its characters are all that memorable, and its enemy encounters can stumble toward the end, but its gunplay and ultra-violence in a neon-soaked world combine to craft a co-op-friendly game you don’t see every day.” Now, publisher...
During Amazon’s Gaming Week sale a few months ago, we spotted a selection of physical Resident Evil PS5 games - Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 remake, Resident Evil 4 remake, and Resident Evil 7 - on sale for just $16 each at the retailer. If you missed out on those excellent offers then, we have very good news: they're all back! While these aren’t the lowest prices ever for these games - that would be just a dollar less at $15, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel’s pages for RE2, RE3, RE4, and RE7 - they’re still the lowest points we’ve seen in a while for some of them. According to their store pages, this is a 30-day low for RE7 and RE4 remake, and a 90-day low for the remake of RE2. If you don't already have these...
Pragmata, Capcom's sci-fi adventure with an android girl sidekick, looks likely to get a sequel. That's according to Capcom corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi, who stated that the chances of a Pragmata follow-up were high during a discussion of the company's impressive latest financial results (thanks, Bloomberg). As reported yesterday, Pragmata has now shifted 2.51 million units worldwide in just three months, which is certainly a solid figure for a new franchise. Already, there had been positive noises that Pragmata might get a sequel. This latest comment from Shimauchi seems to all but confirm it. "We're to a point now where we’ve got another IP that Capcom — and god bless them, has an arsenal — that we can continue to go...
