Doug Bowser, former president and chief operating officer at Nintendo of America, has joined the board of directors at Hasbro. Bowser departed Nintendo on December 31, less than a month ago. He had served more than a decade at the company, and six years as Nintendo of America's final boss, following the departure of previous president Reggie Fils-Aimé. Bowser's time at the company was notable as he oversaw the success of Nintendo Switch and then the record-breaking launch of Switch 2, while gamely acknowledging all the jokes about his surname. Nintendo's former chief will be joined as a newly-installed member of the Hasbro board by Carla Vernón, CEO of The Honest Company. "We are delighted to have Doug and Carla join our seasoned...
Xbox Game Pass is set for a big hitter at the end of January: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. This marks the debut of Saber Interactive’s hugely popular third-person action game in a subscription library, and comes one-and-a-half years after its September 2024 release. For the uninitiated, Space Marine 2 sees you assume the role of Titus, a member of the Ultramarines chapter of Space Marines. He goes up against the monstrous Tyranids in a campaign that can be played with up to two friends. But there are a number of PvE and PvP modes to keep you busy after. Following the success of Space Marine 2, Titus has become something of a poster boy for the Warhammer 40,000 setting, and was even rewarded for his heroic exploits with a...
Concept artwork for Microsoft's upcoming Fable reboot has been shared online, showing what looks to be a large open world. The images, originally highlighted by MP1st, reportedly originate from an unnamed artist who previously worked on the project at British development studio Playground Games. More than two dozen images show brooding fantasy landscapes that stretch off into the horizon, dilapidated thatched cottages in pastoral scenes, and familiar-looking towns with spired roofs. Several images also make reference to "Bloodstone" — suggesting we'll see locations from past Fable games return. Overall, the images offer a slightly darker color palette than seen in Lionhead's original Fable trilogy, with moody skies and a rugged...
Vampire Survivors, and many of the games inspired by it, can feel a little bit—well—familiar. So it’s always refreshing when something comes along that wants to put a genuine spin on the formula. Megabonk was one of the best examples of this last year, not only introducing a third dimension but also adding leaderboards to really get you hooked. One game you may have missed, though, is Monsters Are Coming! Rock & Road. Monsters Are Coming! has you protecting moving bastions as they make their way toward a massive city known as the Ark. This gives you a specific area to defend, rather than simply roaming around getting stronger, and means you have a city to upgrade along the way. As you gain experience, you don’t level up – your city...
One of the original designers of Tomb Raider's iconic Lara Croft has revealed that Core Design's then-Japanese publisher had asked for the character to be given a "Manga" redesign to "appeal" to Japanese players. Responding to one fan who had unearthed a comment from him a few years ago, Tomb Raider co-creator and programmer Paul Douglas confirmed there had been a little pressure "quite late in Tomb Raider's development" when publisher Victor Interactive Software "faxed over some of their own designs" over fears the western character design wouldn't "go down well" in Japan. "Victor wanted us to change in-game Lara to appeal more to a Japanese audience," Douglas revealed on BlueSky. "Huge eyes/head etc. They faxed through examples...
Destiny developer Bungie has finally confirmed the previously leaked launch date for Marathon, which is indeed March 5, 2026, and followed up the news with a rundown of who we can expect to hear in the English voice cast. The bumper cast includes many, many familiar voices, such as Jennifer English (who won Best Performance at 2025's The Game Awards for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and has had notable roles in Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3, in which she plays Shadowheart), Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hades II, Final Fantasy 14), Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2), and Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion, Resident Evil 3 Remake). As one commenter responded: "That's… stacked lol." Here's the full list, along with an...
Last month’s announcement of Divinity has sparked a significant increase in sales of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2, developer Larian has said. Divinity, announced at The Game Awards in December with a much-discussed trailer, is the next role-playing game from Larian following the enormous success of its 2023 Dungeons & Dragons-themed role-playing game. And it’s Baldur’s Gate 3 that has shown remarkable staying power, particularly on Steam where it is still seeing peak concurrent player numbers above 100,000 despite being two-and-a-half years old. 2017's Divinity: Original Sin 2, meanwhile, has also seen an uptick in players following the Divinity announcement, with peak concurrents in the tens of thousands rather than...
CD Projekt has confirmed it issued a DMCA strike on a paid Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod, after its creator refused to make it free for everyone upon the studio’s request. The R.E.A.L. VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 was created by Luke Ross, who, according to a 2022 report by The Verge, makes $20,000 a month modding PC games to run in VR headsets. His mods are locked behind a Patreon, which sparked CD Projekt’s concern. In a tweet, Jan Rosner, VP, Business Development at CD Projekt Red, said the company issued the DMCA strike because Cyberpunk VR was a paid mod, which violates its fan content guidelines. “We never allow monetization of our IP without our direct permission and/or an agreement in place,” Rosner said. “We were in touch with Luke...
Free-to-play dark fantasy action RPG Dark December from developer Needs Games has officially launched on PC, Android, and iOS with crossplay and cross-progression. It marks a return to the world of Undecember, this time with more streamlined gameplay built around three core character classes. If you’re not already familiar with the series or need a little refresher, Undecember was a quarter-view hack-and-slash game with no classes. It introduced a world created by 12 beings who shared their powers and brought peace and prosperity to the land. In time, they came to be worshipped as gods. But then a 13th being arose, who introduced evil to the world and corrupted mankind. Dark December brings you back to that world, but many years...
I spend an unhealthy amount of time playing games so you do not have to gamble your weekend on something mid. This week’s deals list is stacked with games I have finished, bounced off, and in a few cases lost entire evenings to by accident. If you are short on time or money, these are the cuts worth making. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC PC Gear LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 15th birthday of LittleBigPlanet 2, a sacktacular PS3 classic that elevated 2.5D platforming and user-generated content to new heights. At the shallow end of this pool you had a wonderful, co-optional story campaign for up to four floaty sackpersons. Waiting beyond that, however, was a black hole Create mode whose...

CUKTECH 20,000mAh 45W Power Bank for $16.31 The CUKTECH power bank boasts a generous 20,000mAh, or 74Whr battery capacity. If you factor...
We already knew that Bungie’s delayed extraction shooter revival, Marathon, was toying with a March 2026 release window and a $39.99 price point, but it seems as though an advertisement on the Xbox Store has prematurely announced the big day: March 5, 2026. It was Redditor TheJuiceBaba who spotted it first, providing a recording of a now-deleted Marathon teaser trailer on Xbox, which ended with: "Coming March 5, 2026. Pre-order now." In news unlikely to surprise you, shortly thereafter the trailer was yanked from Xbox, and TheJuiceBaba's post is nowhere to be seen (if not quite before people were able to rip and mirror it), giving us our strongest hint yet that the trailer could be authentic. Marathon has certainly endured a...
Ex-Assassin's Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté is suing Ubisoft for CAD $1.3 million in lost severance pay and damages following his shock exit from the company last year. Radio Canada broke word of the lawsuit, which Coté has filed against his former employer due to the manner in which he left the company — an "unacceptable demotion" that constituted a "disguised dismissal." Côté's departure from Ubisoft last October came as a surprise to fans and the company's thousands of Assassin's Creed developers, just weeks after the brand became part of Ubisoft's new Tencent-backed business entity Vantage Studios. Côté had served more than 20 years at Ubisoft and worked on a string of Assassin's Creed hits, before his promotion to head up the...
Far Cry Primal, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry 3 — the 2012 instalment starring Michael Mando as Vaas Montenegro in what is arguably the best game in Ubisoft's first-person shooter series — is getting a 60fps update on current gen consoles. At least, that's what we thought was happening when developer/publisher Ubisoft delivered the news not by a press release but instead via a cryptic tweet and a bundle of emojis, as you can see below: From what we can see, the top line reads, Far Cry [Tree] + 60 [Pair] Second, the middle, Far Cry: Blood Dragon + 60 + Frames [Pear] Second, and the bottom one, Far Cry Primal + 60 + Frames [Purr] Second. Thankfully, Ubisoft confirmed the news with a follow-up tweet without emojis over the...
I've spent an unreasonable portion of my life wandering irradiated wastelands. I have shot geckos in the face outside Goodsprings, talked my way out of Legion death squads, and listened to Mr New Vegas whisper sweet nothings through a crackling radio while I hauled my butt across the Mojave. Fallout is not just a series I like. It is a Graceland I return to yearly. So when Fallout Season 2 rolled back into the cultural conversation and casually dropped New Vegas swagger, Shady Sands and old world icons like The Prydwen on a new generation, my first instinct is not nostalgia. It is logistics. How can I get back in, and how cheaply can I get there. That is where Fallout 76 and its Burning Springs update come in. Yes, the game that once...
I did not plan to fall in love with my backlog again, but here we are. This batch of deals sent me digging through games I already adore, ones I bounced off years ago, and a few I absolutely paid too much for at launch. There is something deeply satisfying about seeing time, patches, and good discounts finally align. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC PC Gear LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, we're celebrating the big 25 for cult classics Armored Core 2 and Tokyo Highway Challenge 2. The former was largely unappreciated outside of Japan in its day, though the series is now bona fide AAA with its seventh iteration. The latter—which copped the suckiest EU market renaming since 'Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles'—garnered an...

Despite being on TV for nearly 30 years, with 28 seasons and over 330 episodes so far, there have been shockingly few video games based on the hit animated television series, South Park. That could be down to the fact that video games take years to make and the average South Park episode only takes a few days, meaning the usual topical pop culture references that fuel the show might feel positively ancient by the time a video game hits shelves. Regardless, a dozen South Park games have managed to buck that trend and actually get released since the show debuted in 1997. Some of them great and some of them..not so great. Here are the best, worst, and weirdest South Park games. South Park The first South Park video game ever made was an...
Shape of Dreams is an action roguelike, but it goes well beyond the usual genre expectations. Roguelikes are everywhere these days, and while they come in many different flavours, it can sometimes feel like you’re playing the same game dressed up in a new skin. Shape of Dreams avoids that trap, thanks to a range of clever mechanics and hidden depth that help it stand out from the crowd. The game features multiple characters, each with their own active and passive abilities, stats, and distinct playstyles. On top of that, every run introduces a selection of skills known as memories. There’s a substantial pool to draw from, and over time you’ll naturally gravitate toward certain combinations depending on your character and goals. In...

Battlefield 6 Update 1.1.3.5 patch notes are here as EA and Battlefield Studios work to balance jet gameplay and melee combat amid the recently delayed Season 2. A full breakdown of what is a smaller update for the troubled FPS installment was published on its official website today. BF Studios describes the update, which has a January 20 release date and serves as the first update Battlefield 6 has seen in a month and a half, as “a smaller set of focused improvements aimed at polish and consistency.” Still, patch 1.1.3.5 delivers a set of improvements, gameplay tweaks, and balance changes fans have anticipated since launch arrived in October. Jet combat will feel quite different going into the extended Season 1, with cannon damage...
Bethesda’s former Elder Scrolls loremaster has revealed his idea for The Elder Scrolls 6 story, and how it would have set up The Elder Scrolls 7. In an interview with PC Gamer discussing his dissatisfaction with working at Bethesda and subsequent departure from the company following the release of Starfield, Kurt Kuhlmann said if he had got the chance to lead The Elder Scrolls 6 it would have been like the beloved Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back. Kuhlmann, who left Bethesda in 2023 after more than 20 years at the studio, said that in his story the elven supremacists the Thalmor would not only have been the big bad of The Elder Scrolls 6, but they would have ended the game on the road to victory. This, he said, would have...
Julian Gerighty, boss of The Division franchise at Ubisoft, has left the company to join Battlefield developer DICE. Gerighty confirmed his departure in a social media post just a week after appearing on a video game showcase livestream to promote The Division 3. Speaking during the New Game+ Showcase 2026 earlier this month, Gerighty said: “So, The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret. It's been announced. It's shaping up to be a monster. I can't really say anything more than that. But this is, within these walls in Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.” He then went on to enthuse about other The Division projects in the works at Massive...
Much more than just a funky-sounding title that feels like it was pulled, kicking and screaming, from the early 1980s, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is, in fact, promising players a jolly old time filled with loud, splattery mutant zombie slaying across a devastated post-apocalyptic wasteland. Perhaps best of all, this whole spectacle has been tailored to be enjoyed with friends who share a taste for such gloopy violence. With that in mind, here’s why John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is shaping up to be the next must-have co-op game for PC and console gamers alike. Toxic Commando Is In Good, Practised Hands Before delving too deeply into the many aspects of Toxic Commando that lend themselves to such a heady calibre of co-op...
Amazon has announced that its MMO, New World, will be officially taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027. The game is now delisted, which means it is no longer available for purchase. You can still play New World until January next year, with the Nighthaven season extended until the servers are taken offline. “We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion,” a statement on the New World website reads. “We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community. “It has been our pleasure to work on New World: Aeternum and evolve this unforgettable...
Today, Capcom is holding a Resident Evil Showcase event set to feature "brand new gameplay and news" for Resident Evil Requiem, among other things. The showcase is taking place at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, and 10pm UK, with a post-show discussion stream to follow, though it's unclear exactly what that will be about. Resident Evil: Reqiuem is just a few weeks away, and we've already seen quite a bit of it, including the long-awaited reveal of Leon S. Kennedy, who is apparently going to be playable as well, and what seems to be a tease of an open world...or at least a pretty big shift in how the series has historically treated its settings. What new surprises could possibly still be waiting at this point? Is Requiem the only game that will be...
Deadhaus Sonata, the indie-developed action-RPG from Legacy of Kain, Eternal Darkness, and Too Human creator Denis Dyack that IGN first revealed in 2018, has "reawakened" with a new trailer and a targeted Early Access release window of early 2026 for PC, with console versions to follow. Watch the trailer above and check out new screenshots in the gallery below. Now powered by Unreal Engine 5, Deadhaus Sonata promises multiple player classes in the final version, with the first being the Vampire. It also touts a living world, with "enemies, events, and opportunities [changing] as the world progresses, making the realm feel alive and reactive." It's also co-op enabled. "Explore a land shattered by divine war and corruption," the team at...
Elden Ring: Nightreign just got a big balance patch, and even if you're not someone who's great at parsing patch notes, you might want to tune into this one, because basically every character that's been widely regarded as terrible for months now got a big buff. Patch 1.03.2 is simply billed as "Balance Adjustments and Feature Updates" but includes a very, very long list of Nightfarer, Relic, Equipment, Sorcery, Incantations, and other adjustments that should prove a major boon especially to a few Nightfarers that desperately needed some love: Raider, Guardian, Executor, and Revenant. We've shared the patch notes below, but here's a quick summary for each of these four characters. Guardian, whose role is generally to "tank" bosses...
Monster Hunter Wilds fans are asking Capcom for answers after one player seemed to discover that PC performance is dictated by the number of DLCs a user has. de_Tylmarande puts their theory plainly: “More DLC = more FPS.” The tech-savvy Reddit user uncovered what they believe is a “bug in the code they need to fix” and shared their findings with the Monster Hunter subreddit yesterday. If their theory is accurate, it would mean an undisclosed number of Monster Hunter Wilds PC players have experienced sluggish performance — potentially since its February 2025 launch — simply due to their lack of DLC ownership. The Reddit user says they first began digging into Monser Hunter Wilds after they, and many others, noticed “constant FPS drops...
Amazon has announced a Fallout spinoff TV show called Fallout Shelter. Fallout Shelter is the name for Bethesda’s strategy spinoff in which you manage a vault and its dwellers while under pressure from the wasteland. Fallout Shelter the Prime Video series is a reality competition show along similar lines to Beast Games. Here's the official blurb on the 10-episode series: Here's the Fallout Shelter program description, from the now open casting call: It’s produced by Studio Lambert, the company that’s also behind The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge. Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios are also involved. Todd Howard is down as executive producer. The announcement of Fallout Shelter comes with Fallout Season 2 in...
