At last there’s a new Guitar Hero game, only this one doesn’t require you to dust off the pile of plastic peripherals you’ve long since stashed on a shelf in your garage. A musical voyage of personal discovery for its axe-wielding star, Francis Vendetti, The Artful Escape is a story-driven platforming adventure that weaves in light rhythm game mechanics as you blaze fiery riffs through cosmic rifts across the universe and back again. Inspired intergalactic environments, a charmingly quirky cast, and some sparklingly grandiose guitarwork propel The Artful Escape into what becomes a genuinely magical mystery tour. Although it features numerous beasts from other worlds to confront along the way, the major villain in The Artful Escape...
Life is Strange: True Colors has kept me more emotionally invested than any Life is Strange story since I played the original back in 2015. While every game in this adventure series is good in its own way, this one (from developer Deck Nine as opposed to the series’ creators at Dontnod) addresses many consistent issues that have plagued the last three games. It proves to be the best in the series thanks to consistent writing for both main and side characters, a compelling mystery story with good pacing, useful supernatural abilities, and perhaps most importantly, dialogue choices that offer more depth and complexity with big and most small decisions that actually impact the story in meaningful ways throughout the course of five...
Bungie is hiring for a new senior executive who will help to bring Destiny's narrative from video games across to the world of TV, film, and more. A career listing on Bungie's website for a new senior executive development role at the studio (spotted by TheGamePost) says that the successful candidate will "drive projects that extend the Destiny franchise into new categories including TV, films, books, comics, and audio formats." Bungie itself doesn't appear to be hiring for positions to create the new range of Destiny products in-house. Instead, the new executive's role will be to "identify, select, guide, collaborate, and provide feedback to third parties and partners enabling them to tell additional myths in the Destiny universe...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject. Diablo 2: Resurrected won't feature ultrawide monitor support when it launches on September 23 due to the discovery that the wider screens break AI mechanics within the original game. Following the technical beta for Diablo 2: Resurrected, developer Vicarious Visions and Blizzard Entertainment took to updating fans on a number of in-game features that the team has revisited. As well as briefing players on changes that had been made to console lobbies and offering more insight into the removal of TCP/IP support (which it...
Sony has acquired UK developer Firesprite, marking the third studio acquisition from Sony this year alone. As noted on the PlayStation Blog, Firesprite has worked closely with Sony, creating several titles together. Most notably, the developer helped to create The Playroom and The Playroom VR. Firesprite is also the developer behind The Persistence, a horror shooter originally released on the PS4 as a PSVR title before becoming a non-VR version on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC two years later. "We’ve had the pleasure of working with many talented developers and publishers across the industry and PlayStation, in particular, has been a friend and co-development partner for the best part of a decade," Firesprite Managing Director...
With Forza Horizon 5 just around the corner, Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have revealed a huge list of cars that players will be able to choose from when setting out across the game's vast and diverse Mexican landscape. Despite the list already containing several hundred cars, the developer has confirmed that there's still more to come. Forza Motorsport's official website currently lists 426 different vehicles to drive. Playground announced a number of debutants on the list as well as confirming that more cars would be added in due course. The post reads, "stay tuned, because this isn’t the final list for launch date. We’ll be expanding it with even more cars and manufacturers in the weeks leading up to Nov. 9, so be sure to...
The newest Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt will be upon us soon, and it sees the massively successful trading card game return to a world of gothic horror. Werewolves, zombies, vampires and spirits await in Innistrad, a plane first introduced 11 years ago and that remains popular today. One of the most exciting additions will be the 19 new double-faced werewolf cards. Long term players will be familiar with the mechanic of transforming from a human form on one side to a werewolf on the other, but the new global day-night cycle offers a significant twist, meaning that a card can enter play as a werewolf if it’s nighttime. Be sure to check out IGN’s existing coverage of the new day-night cycle as well as new mechanics...
Ubisoft has sprung some proper bargains on us today. Most of those concern PC folks, though I have found a few choice savings on Nintendo Switch as well. Fellow retroholics such as myself should pay attention to the Sega classics going for 50% off on Xbox. Shrewd Sony shoppers should also take note that the upgrade path for Horizon Forbidden West has been altered in their favour... Epic Games has been showcasing the upcoming Unreal Engine 5 with a series of impressive tech demos, and now the protagonist from those demos is coming to Fortnite. Also, she’s apparently named Windwalker Echo. Windwalker Echo is the formerly unnamed character that has starred in Epic’s various Unreal Engine 5 tech demos. This includes the Lumen in the Land of Nanite tech video that showed off the lighting and geometry tool as well as the Valley of the Ancient tech demo. Both Lumen in the Land of Nanite and Valley of the Ancient are playable tech demos even though there’s no plan to create a game starring Windwalker Echo. But she will at least be playable in Fortnite starting tonight. Unreal Engine 5 is currently available in Early...
Billionaire and former Walmart executive Marc Lore has shared his vision for a new city in America, that will cost $400 billion to build. CNN reports that the new city, called Telosa, is being designed to be a sustainable metropolis located in a desert somewhere in the U.S. Right now, city planners are considering Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, and Texas. The city's layout is intended to allow residents to get to work, school, or anything else they may need within 15 minutes. The goal is for Telosa to be eco-friendly, with sustainable energy and water. At the center of it all is the Equitism Tower, a skyscraper designed to be, "a beacon for the city." The plan says the city will eventually grow to 150,000 acres, supporting 5 million...
It’s rare to see Studio Ghibli’s iconic and instantly recognizable anime art style take shape in a video game, but developer NAPS Team’s isometric action-adventure RPG, Baldo: The Guardian Owls, claims both Ghibli and The Legend of Zelda as its primary inspirations. Those are lofty ambitions, but Baldo rarely instills the same depth into its story or characters, and very little of it feels good to play. In fact, experiencing upwards of 50 hours of wildly inconsistent dungeon-crawling and puzzle-solving to reach its meager ending is more like wading knee-deep in a swamp than strolling through a park. The premise of a young boy attempting to save a world in danger is simple but effective for what’s intended as a light-hearted story...
Alan Wake is back and we are incredibly excited. Will this lead to the long-awaited sequel? We discuss... Firaxis and 2K showed off nearly 20 minutes of gameplay focused almost entirely on the combat. This is the best look yet at the new tactics system that incorporates environmental attacks and a contentious new card system. The new gameplay deep dive video showcases the different elements that go into Midnight Suns’ combat system which combines elements of tactics and special hero powers. Plus, a look at how destructible environments can really shape the battle. Check out the video below. Last week, developer Firaxis revealed that Marvel’s Midnight Suns would involve a card battle system. This system is not like collectible card games like Hearthstone but instead will tie abilities to cards in a deck that can be played to activate...
Nobody Saves the World, the next game from Guacamelee developer Drinkbox Studios, is far from just about playing as Nobody, the Greendale Human Being-esque hero of this story. At the core of its gameplay, NSTW lets players transform Nobody into a series of unlockable forms, ranging from a rat, to a monk, to a horse, to a party magician, and much more. But Drinkbox cleverly doesn't limit a player's abilities to just those of their chosen form; as you progress, you'll have the ability to mix and match the abilities of forms to satisfy mission requirements, pull off wild combinations in battle, and just generally get creative with your wacky arsenal. The possibilities are expansive, and now even more so that Nobody Saves the World is...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject. We're once again returning to World War II in Call of Duty: Vanguard. While there are many mostly unexplored story opportunities for the campaign side, my expectations for multiplayer were largely up in the air. Will this multiplayer find ways to be more innovative than what we got with Black Ops Cold War despite the setting? How much of an impact do the combat pacing filters make? Is the destructible environment addition useful? An early look at Vanguard's multiplayer provided a bit of insight into all of this. I played for...
If there’s one thing that could improve the experience of watching hundreds of bloodthirsty zombies run towards me in a frenzy, it just might be doing so from a first-person perspective rather than third. Seeing hordes of the undead throw themselves off ledges right at me or piling themselves up into murderous mountains of meat to climb towards me is already one of the best experiences World War Z has to offer, but when I saw it through the eyes of my playable survivor it dialed the horror up to 11 in the best possible way. Whether I was trying not to die of hypothermia in the frozen nightmare of Kamchatka, Russia, or blasting my way through a sea of flesh-eaters in the streets of Rome, every encounter hit closer to home with each...
Following the launch of Frontiers, the recent No Man's Sky expansion that added settlements, expanded base-building options and more to the game, the title has finally surmounted a huge milestone in its redemption arc with a change in its Steam review status – having progressed from 'Overwhelmingly Negative' at launch to 'Mostly Positive' today. The turning point serves as a momentous occasion in No Man's Sky's five-year history and sparked a deservedly emotional response from Hello Games founder Sean Murray on Twitter: Tim Woodley, Head of Publishing at Hello Games spoke about the feat and what it has meant to the team working on No Man's Sky. "Over the last five years we've moved from 'Overwhelmingly Negative' to 'Mostly...
Remedy has announced a full remaster of its cult classic Alan Wake, due to arrive this fall on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC (via Epic Games Store). Perhaps more excitingly, it opens the door more than ever for Alan Wake 2 to come down the line. After a leak last week, Remedy and publisher Epic announced that Alan Wake Remastered would come with both of the game's expansions, allow for 4K resolution, and will include a new commentary from creative director Sam Lake. No official release date has been announced, but the previous retailer leaks have pointed to October 5. Lake himself wrote about the remaster on Alan Wake/Remedy fansite The Sudden Stop, beginning his letter by writing "this is for you". He confirmed that...
Following his comments supporting the Texas anti-abortion law, Tripwire CEO John Gibson has stepped down from the company behind such games as Maneater and Chivalry 2. Tripwire announced the news alongside confirming that co-founding member and current vice president Alan Wilson will now act as interim CEO. In its statement, Tripwire shared that Gibson's views do not reflect the company as a whole and that "his comments disregarded the values of our whole team, our partners and much of our broader community." "The comments given by John Gibson are of his own opinion, and do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company," Tripwire wrote. "His comments disregarded the values of our whole team, our partners and much of our...
I've got quite the eclectic mix of bargains here today. The co-op afficionados are covered (Overcooked 2, Dead Island, Lego Harry Potter). Same deal with anybody looking to swap their current four walls with broader horizons (The Outer Worlds, Spidey Miles Morales, BioShock Infinite, AC Valhalla). Oh, and there's also something for the rarer individual who just can't get enough pandemic (66% off Plague Inc.). Sick game. Liked it more when it was less relatable. Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone says that he is currently focused on creating a new, unrevealed game rather than fresh updates for his immensely popular farming simulator. Speaking recently to Zach Hartman on Twitch (as reported by Eurogamer) following the conclusion of the first official Stardew Valley Cup, Barone explained that he's currently not working on future Stardew Valley updates because he has been focused on a new game. "I'm not saying there's going to be another Stardew Valley update," Barone added during his response to a fan's question surrounding future updates and marriage options within the game. "I don't even know at this point. Right now I am focused on my next game. So, we'll see." Whilst Barone kept details...
Sonic Colors: Ultimate recently launched across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, following a range of issues predominantly affecting the Switch version of the game, the development team at Blind Squirrel Games has promised to patch the title. The studio thanked fans for their feedback on issues that have been cropping up within the game on Twitter before announcing that it was "preparing a patch for release as soon as possible". Sonic the Hedgehog social media manager, Katie Chrzanowski also went on to thank fans for their patience – although noted that the team had seen some graphical issues in the game that were being caused by a Nintendo Switch emulator outside of the studio's control. Despite some...
Two developers associated with Tripwire Interactive have distanced themselves from the publisher after president John Gibson stated his positive views on Texas' controversial new anti-abortion law. One developer has cancelled all of its contracts with the publisher as a result. Gibson, Tripwire's co-owner, tweeted that he was "proud" of the US Supreme Court for affirming the law before further going on to say that, while he "doesn't get political often," he felt that it was important to "go on the record as a pro-life game developer". Since then, developers that have worked alongside Tripwire on a number of titles have been quick to set out their own views on the president's comments. Shipwright Studios, which contributed to both...
Far Cry 6 is roughly a month away, and ahead of the game's official October 7 release date, the system requirements needed to run the PC version have been officially revealed. The game’s minimum specs are not too heavy, with an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or an Intel Core i5-4460 processor and either an AMD Radeon RX 460 or an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 graphics card inside your rig. Those minimum specs on the CPU and GPU front, along with 8GB of RAM will run the game on a low preset with a resolution of 1080 and 30 frames per second and no ray tracing. Now, if you are looking to run the game at 1440p or 4K resolutions, you will need to have more powerful hardware upgrades for your machines. For example, if you want to run the game at 1440p with...

Riot Games is joining forces with an ex-Netflix executive to continue developing its new entertainment division. Brian Wright has been hired as Riot's Chief Content Officer. Wright will help develop original film, TV, and animation projects for Riot Entertainment. In addition, Riot Games says Wright will work to bridge the relationship between the gaming and entertainment industries. At Netflix, Wright worked on bringing more original content to the platform, including Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, and more. Wright says he's "beyond thrilled" to join Riot Games, adding, "I can't wait to bring more vibrant stories to players and fans around the world.” Riot Games is known for developing and publishing League of Legends and...
King's Bounty 2 is a tired sigh of a Euro-style tactical RPG. Not the kind you make when you're frustrated or relieved, though; it's more like when you sit down after walking up a long flight of stairs and feel sort of distantly content. For the most part, it's fine. The tactical combat is actually pretty enjoyable, the music is great, and the world looks nice. But it feels janky and unpolished in a lot of technical aspects, and the mediocre storytelling rarely got me motivated to see how the next step of the adventure might unfold. In a lot of ways, this long-overdue sequel is comparable to RPGs like ELEX or The Technomancer: a mid-budget contender that really wants to be something like a blockbuster BioWare game but doesn't really...
2021 officially marks the 49th season of the World Rally Championship, making WRC 10’s 50th anniversary content… a fraction premature. Of course, after nearly two years of total turmoil it’s hard to blame anyone for wanting to celebrate their birthday early – the World Rally Championship included. To mark the moment, WRC 10 arrives armed with the most retro content to grace developer KT Racing’s series so far, with a new mode featuring cars and stages representing five decades of rally racing history. Combined with a deep career mode, the result is the spiciest and arguably the strongest official WRC game to date – though that’s a narrow victory, since it still hasn’t changed dramatically since the already very good WRC 8 and WRC 9...

Now you’ll infiltrate The Last Reality in one final mission.
