Switch fans have been showered with tons of announces recently, and today's a great time to whack a preorder down. That being said, my daily trawls also target bargains on the best of yesteryear, too. If you've never had the pleasure of Limbo or Inside, it's time to get buying and truly start living. At least until you're murdered horribly in either game... An expansion pack for The Sims 4 that was previously announced as not coming to Russia due to restrictions on LGBTQ media content in the country will be released in Russia after all, following community outcry. The pack, "My Wedding Stories," is an expansion for The Sims 4 that adds the ability to plan and perform detailed weddings. The pack's marketing centers around the courtship and marriage of two women, Dominique and Camille. Initially, EA and developer Maxis had cited Russian federal law as the reason for skipping the release in the country, saying that doing so would have forced them to alter their storytelling, "compromising the values we live by." Since then, Sims community members have pushed back using the hashtag...
Some Xbox Series S owners are unhappy with how Cyberpunk 2077 runs on the console in the wake of yesterday's 1.5 patch, and CD Projekt Red is taking note. The developer is pledging to look into bringing the experience on Series S closer to the other next-gen versions. Even after the new next-gen upgrade, the Xbox Series S version of Cyberpunk 2077 only performs at 30 FPS, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions can reach 60 FPS with occasional frame drops. The PS5 and Series X versions also have a ray-tracing mode that drops the framerate to 30 FPS while providing 4K resolution. The Xbox Series S version currently supports 1440p. In a post on the CD Projekt Red forum, the developer said they've heard the request for the...
The Steam Deck, Valve’s handheld gaming PC, is nearly here… well, at least for those who were able to preorder it fast enough. But not only does this device give access to the Steam Store and a user’s Steam library wherever they may be, it can also be run as a regular PC that supports the install of third-party storefronts like the Epic Games Store. However, the entry fee for Valve’s new handheld isn’t cheap, as the base model will run potential buyers $399. To help ensure you have all the information you may need when deciding on whether you want Valve’s Steam Deck for yourself, we’ve tried to answer all of Steam Deck’s biggest questions below, including what games it can play, how long its battery life is, how you can pre-order one...
We're used to seeing next-gen console upgrades that improve visual fidelity or framerates, but it's so far been rare to see next-gen only features that centre around AI. However, one update to Cyberpunk 2077's NPCs was deemed too demanding to bring to PS4 and Xbox One. Cyberpunk 2077's latest 1.5 patch came with many, many changes for all available platforms – but one next-gen only feature caught the eye. Covered in yesterday's Cyberpunk announcement stream, CD Projekt Red announced that the game's crowd reactions had been improved, both for pedestrians and vehicles. The changes mean that crowds in the game will now react more realistically to your aggressive actions, with NPCs fighting back, running away, or even fighting each...
No Man's Sky creator Sean Murray says his galaxy-spanning sandbox isn't close to being finished, despite receiving its 19th major update today. Speaking to IGN, Murray said the team at Hello Games is continuously coming up with new features they'd like added to No Man's Sky, and each new update inspires more and more ideas. He said, for "as many updates as we've done since launch and as many bucket list items we've checked off, our list of things we're excited about never seems to get any shorter. The team are always coming up with new things that they want to do with the game: new content and features and areas for improvement. "I'm amazed that the energy levels are as high now as they've ever been. We tend not to talk about what's...
Skybound's latest comic book announcement is a bit different from the norm. Rather than debuting a brand new series, the publisher is bringing the complete run of acclaimed French comic Lastman to the English language market for the first time. As it turns out, Skybound founder Robert Kirkman is "absolutely obsessed with" the series. Lastman was created by Bastien Vivès, Yves "Balak" Bigerel and Michaël Sanlaville. This heavily manga-influenced series is set in a fantasy world called Valley of Kings, where each year the king and queen hold a tournament of magicians. The series' protagonist, 12-year-old Adrian Velba, dreams of winning the tournament. But when his partner falls ill, Velba has no choice but to team up with the brutish...
Damage State, a three-person development team from the same UK town as Forza Horizon 5 developer Playground Games, has announced Scathe, a bullet-hell first-person shooter due out this year for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. A playable PC demo will be available as part of Steam Next Fest from February 21-28. Scathe is being published by Kwalee. As you can see in the announcement trailer above, Scathe is a fast-paced FPS that emphasizes speed, promising "big guns and even bigger demons." Scathe will also include a drop-in/drop-out cooperative mode. As the developers describe it, "You play as Scathe, Enforcer of the legions of Hell, forged from the earth by the Divine Creator themself. And you, like...
No Man's Sky is getting a complete combat overhaul with its Sentinel Update. The free update changes the look and feel of weapons, adds new ones altogether, and provides an array of new and tweaked enemies to use them on. Due to be released today, developer Hello Games says Sentinels should create "a more dynamic and impactful combat experience". Sentinels have existed as robotic enemies in the game since launch, but will themselves be tweaked in the update, and Hello is also adding new Sentinel-focused story missions to let players explore the range of new features. The arsenal of new weapons includes a high-energy Neutron Cannon, an active camo cloaking device, and an electrifying stun grenade, but players can also upgrade current...
Apex Legends: Defiance sees the popular shooter kick off Season 12, and heralds the arrival of a new Legend - Mad Maggie. A fast-talking, quick-to-hit warlord, with a distinctly Kiwi cadence, Maggie has been a labour of love for Respawn. The team sees Maggie as not just a gameplay opportunity, but a chance to bring an authentically realised Māori character into the game. “It became apparent very early on that we had an opportunity and responsibility to make the character not Pākehā like me,” says Sam Gill, Narrative Lead on Apex Legends and New Zealander abroad. “Not some white European, we've covered that. To expose multiple cultures to the world at large, that's a really big deal for us. We've got a user base in excess of a hundred...

At long last, Cyberpunk 2077 has received its next-gen upgrades in a surprise drop this morning, alongside a massive 1.5 patch for all versions. The patch contains a ton of new features of varying sizes and scopes, many of which are delighting the Cyberpunk community as they discover them. One of the best-received updates is the ability to change the protagonist's appearance after the game's prologue via the mirror in their apartment. You can't change everything — cyberware and tattoos are off the table, for instance — but there seem to be new hair colors and other small adjustments added to the creator. There are also a few new apartment options to change up the look of the place, including the option to move to a different apartment...
If you're one of many players trying to upgrade your disc copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PS5 version that released today (alongside the Xbox Series X version), be aware that you may run into an issue. Numerous players are taking to Reddit and social media to complain about being unable to upgrade thanks to a region lock issue. CD Projekt Red confirmed it's aware of the issue in a FAQ post earlier today. "For disc owners in order to download the Next Gen update the CUSA (PlayStation code) from your disc has to match your PlayStation account region. You can check out the codes here," the support post states. If you run into the same issue, you can reach CD Projekt Red's support network via the same FAQ post. Put simply, some European...
Tech teardown specialist iFixit has uploaded a new video taking apart the Steam Deck. While this is not the first teardown we have seen on Valve's portable gaming PC, the latest teardown provides better context on the reparability of the Steam Deck. One of the biggest takeaways from iFixit's video was that replacing the battery on the Steam Deck will be difficult, noting that battery replacements for the handheld are "rough." But should you feel the need to replace the battery, iFixit suggests users drain the battery "below 25%" before you disassemble the Steam Deck to prevent any thermal runaway while also using "plenty of heat to soften the adhesive" and to pry the battery out from the bottom edge. iFixit also noted that...

Ubisoft is a massive company. According to its own data, the video game publishing giant owns over 45 development studios and employs over 20,000 people — significantly more than competitors such as EA — though Ubisoft is reportedly dealing with an exodus of talent. Despite its ongoing struggles, Ubisoft is continuing to focus on producing new entries in its stable of established franchises — Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy, and Far Cry, to name a few — while intermittently experimenting with new franchises like Immortals Fenyx Rising and Riders Republic. It’s a one-two punch that makes Ubisoft and its development decisions interesting to follow, even if those experiments don’t always pan out. To give you a better idea of the company’s...
Capcom has launched an online Resident Evil museum that takes users through the franchise's history game by game. The Resident Evil Portal, which currently includes insights into Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, and Zero, also has never before seen artwork, including character models and concept art. It will presumably be regularly updated to include some, if not all, of the 24 other Resident Evil games. It's already promising a further update that will arrive on February 22. Each virtual exhibit focuses on a specific game, broken down by its release date, story, characters, creatures, and artwork, as well as extra bits of deep-cut Resident Evil lore, including maps of Raccoon City and anime adaptations of Leon S. Kennedy. Once every game has...
One of the many defining characteristics of the Borderlands series has been its slate of characters. From the playable to the supporting characters, to legendary foes like Handsome Jack, the many people (and annoying robots) inhabiting the Borderlands universe are among some of the most unique and memorable characters in all of gaming. In Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, you can add yourself to that list of legendary characters, because for the first time in the series history, you can create your own custom character. OK, it's a little bit of a cheat since you're creating a character to play inside a fictional universe created by one of Borderlands’ most popular characters of all, Tiny Tina. But you still get to choose the look and style of...
Netflix is going somewhere beyond the sea after it announced it will be producing a live-action film based on BioShock. In a tweet, the streamer announced that it will be partnering with 2K and Take-Two on a live-action adaptation of Ken Levine's popular immersive sim set in an underwater city that was meant to house the greatest minds on Earth before descending into chaos. The Hollywood Reporter says no writer or filmmaker is currently attached to the project, though plans for the movie have been in the works for almost a year. BioShock was released in 2007 as a spiritual successor to SystemShock. Set in a fictional, underwater city called Rapture, players were mysteriously drawn to its depths only to uncover a shocking history of...
Developer Invader Studios has announced that it will release a playable demo of its upcoming survival-horror prequel, Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle, during next week's Steam Next Fest, running from February 21-28. To mark the occasion, the studio has released a new trailer, which you can watch above. Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is set before Daymare: 1998. the Resident Evil 2-inspired survival horror game released in 2019 for PC and 2020 for consoles. Sandcastle will be released later this year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The developers promise "innovative crowd control mechanics linked to one of the most innovative and original weapons ever, the Frost Grip," among other features. You play as special...
Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a next-gen update for both PS5 and Xbox Series X today. The new update is completely free and is available right now for all platforms. During the CD Projekt RED's Livestream, it was revealed that the patch should be live immediately. This will likely take a little bit of time to roll out completely, but keep an eye on your console and patch should be available soon. If you want to download the patch, or the free trial, as soon as possible, read on below for a few tips on how to get started. Restart Your Console, Download the Update Patch 1.5 will come to all platforms, and is a huge ~50GB update. It aims to add many new fixes and features, alongside the next-gen updates for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. If...
The long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 are being released today. The game will also get a free trial version, free DLC, and a huge, 50GB 1.5 patch for all platforms. Announced during a CD Projekt Red stream about the new versions and 1.5 patch, we were shown a quest, alternating between PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S footage of the game. Where the Xbox version will be a patch upgrade, PS5 users will need to download an entirely new version of the game, and transfer any existing save data from the PS4 edition. PS5 and Xbox Series X games will offer performance (prioritising 60FPS) or ray-tracing modes, while Xbox Series S will only offer a single 30FPS, 1440p mode. One of the more popular DLC...
Behaviour Interactive has announced that the next Dead by Daylight chapter will feature characters from Ringu, the cult-classic Japanese horror franchise. Dead by Daylight: Sadako Rising will introduce a new killer in the guise of Sadako, the creepy woman who crawls out of televisions in the Ringu movies. Known in-game as The Onryō, Behaviour says that we should expect Sadako to provide a different take on Dead by Daylight's classic gameplay. “Ringu introduces psychological horror to our game, which is very different from the slasher style our fans are used to. They can expect Sadako to come with creepy and surprising gameplay mechanics that are not found in other Killers”, shares Dave Richard, Creative Director, Dead by Daylight...
It’s no secret that VR and tabletop-style RPGs make a natural pairing, but what happens when you port a made-for-VR, tabletop RPG-inspired dungeon crawler, like Resolution Games’ fabulous Demeo, to the PC – where competition like Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Wasteland 3 already awaits? Good news: Demeo does something totally different from any of those, condensing its excellent card-based tactical combat into short skirmishes rather than full-length campaigns, with no leveling or grinding in-between. That’s right: you and your friends can most likely jump into and play an entire Demeo campaign in under three hours from start to finish, and crossplay support means that no matter who's playing on PC or in VR, you can always play together...
Whether you're gaming on your PC or just trying to get some work done, having a dependable and accurate mouse can make a big difference. Selecting text and clicking into the right spreadsheet cells is one thing, but once you're gaming, it gets even more important to have a great mouse, and there are many gaming mice to choose from. Unfortunately, with all those options, there are plenty of duds and many that just cost more than anyone should have to stomach (we're talking the price of a decent processor). Fortunately, we've tried out so many mice, we know which can still muster solid performance while boasting a price tag that's more gentle on the eyes. In fact, some of these gaming mice even borrow the design and features of their...

The PlayStation versions of upcoming horror game Martha is Dead have been "modified" to remove certain elements, despite the original version launching as normal on Xbox and PC. It's not clear what has been modified, but Martha Is Dead is already notable for an unflinching look at graphic elements, even in its trailers. The announcement came in a Tweet (below) posted just ten days before Martha is Dead's launch. Expressing "regret" at the change, the developer's statement was prefaced with a warning that the game was always intended for adult audiences, "with play consisting of potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players." It also announced that the physical versions on PlayStation would be delayed for...
CD Projekt Red has announced a Cyberpunk 2077 stream, to be broadcast tomorrow, February 15. Airing at 7am Pacific / 10am Eastern / 3pm UK (that's February 16 at 2am AEDT), CDPR currently hasn't offered details on what will be included, but it feels likely that we'll get news on the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions of the game. We've finally come to the end of the sweeping dark fantasy trilogy that began six years ago, and Total War: Warhammer 3 is a worthy capstone. With interesting campaign mechanics that build up rivalries between its memorable main cast and several new armies that don't play like anything we've seen in Total War before, it excels on just about every level, strategic and tactical. And a collection of little quality-of-life changes carried over from other recent Total War games tie the single-player campaign up with a nice little bloodsoaked bow. The main campaign in Warhammer 3 is very story-driven, even more so than Warhammer 2's Eye of the Vortex. And that can be both a good and bad thing. Having completed it three times now, I don't...
