Ahead of the long-awaited launch of Halo Infinite's campaign, 343 Head of Creative Joseph Staten has revealed that his favorite Halo game is Halo 3: ODST.
Staten, who was instrumental in the success of Bungie's Halo games and joined Halo Infinite's development shortly after its delay in 2020, spoke to IGN for our Unfiltered interview series and shared why Halo 3: ODST meant so much to him.
"Halo 3: ODST is my favorite," Staten said. "And not just because I was helping to lead that project, but for me it was... any game developers that are watching will understand this. It was the game that we made in the most stable technology base that we'd ever had. You know, it was Halo 3 ODST. It was built in the Halo 3 engine, very few feature...
Halo Infinite's Joseph Staten has discussed the year-long delay to the game, saying that while it was "very, very hard", he is "so proud of the studio and Xbox" for make the decision to prioritise player experience over putting an unfinished game out.
With Halo Infinite's multiplayer is out in the wild, and apart from early criticisms of the game's Battle Pass system, the game is largely receiving praise from fans. While final verdicts on next month's campaign are still to come, the multiplayer's positive reception is the first step in what could be a huge redemption story for Halo Infinite.
After a reveal that left many fans underwhelmed and led to Craig the Brute's rise to internet stardom, Halo Infinite was delayed from its...
Welcome to IGN Unfiltered, our (somewhat) regularly occurring interview series where we sit down with the best, brightest, and most fascinating minds in the video game industry. (Catch up on the other 60 episodes here.) My guest this episode is Halo Infinite head of creative and longtime Bungie writer Joseph Staten. In this career-spanning interview, Staten discusses his unique path into the video game industry, the early days of Halo at Bungie, helping create Destiny, and how he's affected Halo Infinite since joining the team in 2020 just prior to the one-year delay.
Check out the full episode in the video above, but if you'd prefer to listen to the interview, here's an audio-only podcast download link (or you can listen via the IGN...
Halo Infinite modders have begun adding previously unplayable vehicles, and even creating their own new ones.
While widespread modding is still fairly rare for the game, some players are beginning to tinker with the game's files. So far, that seems to have yielded the best results with vehicles, including those that can't be controlled in the release version of multiplayer.
Veteran Halo modder RejectedShotgun (via PC Gamer) has made the Pelican dropship fully flyable. And while he thinks it could still use a little work, the result is absolutely stunning. “The Halo Infinite Pelican is super detailed,” he explained. “It has a ludicrous amount of detail – there is so much going on.”
“Halo Infinite just recently dropped and luckily the...

Developer Cloud Imperium Games has now raised an eye-watering $400,000,000 for its space trading and combat sim Star Citizen - a game that's now been in development for the best part of a decade.
According to Star Citizen's official website, the game has now generated more than $400,000,000 from fan-raised funds. Despite its community's generosity, however, Cloud Imperium Games is still yet to release a full version of the game even though its crowdfunding campaign started back in 2012 - you know, the same year that Bethesda released Dishonored and Ubisoft made waves with Far Cry 3.
While it could be argued that Star Citizen's lengthy delay in development is in part down to its long list of community-led stretch goals, the...

One thing that has always set Battlefield apart from its competitors like Call of Duty is the over-the-top tank, airplane, and helicopter-related shenanigans you can get up to.
But in Battlefield 2042, players are finding said shenanigans difficult to counter when on foot due to the limited toolkit of anti-vehicle weaponry available. In fact, a reddit user going by SheroxXx found that the NWT-50 sniper rifle can kill a tank significantly faster than the M5 recoilless, which was purpose-built by the developers to be an anti-armor weapon.
One of the main factors seems to be the rate of fire, with the NWT able to fire far faster than the M5. In fact, it can take out a tank almost twice as fast. It's also more forgiving, as missing a...
IO Interactive announced a new roadmap for Hitman 3 Year 2 with new content coming in January 2022, including ray tracing, PC VR, and an Elusive Target Arcade.
The game is already optimized and enhanced on PC with support for 8+ core CPUs and variable rate shading. Working together with Intel, IO Interactive will also bring ray tracing to Hitman 3 sometime in 2022. PlayStation owners can already play Hitman 3 with PSVR support, but now it's also coming to VR PC in January 2022.
IO Interactive will reveal full technical details, including the platforms that it is supporting before Year 2 starts on January 20, which coincidentally is exactly one year after the game originally launched. Hitman 3 has a timed Epic Games Store...
New World recently released its Into the Void update, bringing with it a host of new features and fixes. One thing players didn't reckon with, however, was that it also made the endgame harder — much harder.
Over the weekend, endgame players began noting on Reddit and elsewhere that certain high-level enemies had received a major buff. The net effect of this buff is that certain enemies are next to impossible to take down while playing solo, further elongating an already savage endgame grind.
"This is so dumb, solo people just cannot do anything even close to endgame now," one player wrote. "I get how [Amazon Game Studio] wants people to party up as it is an MMO but soloing should still be an option, especially if youre [sic]...
Using audio logs to help convey a game’s story is nothing new. In fact, audio logs aren’t even new to Halo, with Halo 3: ODST’s Sadie's Story being one of the most memorable parts of an incredibly memorable game, and Halo 4’s Terminals delivering key details about the Didact. Halo 5 utilized them too. But Halo Infinite – thanks to its campaign’s open-ring structure – is putting them to use in a contextually fascinating way: to tell multiple sides of the larger story about the fight on Zeta Halo between the UNSC and The Banished that takes place prior to the start of when you as Master Chief enter the fray.
You’ll find data pads scattered all over Zeta Halo, and they house audio logs that fall into three categories: UNSC, Banished, and...
Nerf has announced a collaboration with Minecraft, turning items from both Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons into real-life blasters.
Two blasters – the Nerf Minecraft Pillager's Crossbow and the Nerf Minecraft Stormlander – are available to buy today. The Pillager's Crossbow takes inspiration from the original Minecraft and is fired by pulling back a priming lever and pulling the trigger – allowing you to fire three Nerf Elite darts at once. It comes in at $26.49.
The Stormlander is inspired by Minecraft Dungeons, and is based on that game's hammer weapon. Loaded with three darts in the top of the hammer, you fire by pulling a trigger on the handle. It comes in at $20.99. You can check out all the entire Nerf Minecraft line in the...
Rockstar's recent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy appears to contain an unfinished VR mode for the game.
As spotted by Eurogamer, Rockstar Intel reporter Ben Walker recently tweeted a video (below) showing what seems to be a semi-working first-person mode in GTA: San Andreas, but which is marked as a VR option in back-end menus. "There is a debug Unreal command for GTA VR but it looks a little bit unfinished," says Walker in the tweet.
"Maybe it would be cool if they implemented this as a first-person option? It plays pretty well. Gunfights and punching will need tweaking, would be super cool for screenshots!"
Footage of the VR mode appears to display in a similar way to the first-person perspective granted in GTA V. As...
Former Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell has told fans to stop sharing, remove and 'destroy' any non-commercially available material that they may have in their possession related to Destiny or Music of the Spheres (the music that acted as a foundation for Destiny's soundtrack).
In a court-ordered message posted to the composer's YouTube channel, O'Donnell made a statement to fans explaining that they should dispose of any assets in their possession that they have acquired from the composer when he previously uploaded them to YouTube as well as a number of other websites.
In the video, O'Donnell states:
"To whom it may concern, I do not have and have not had since at least April 2014, the legal authority to possess or distribute...
A rough launch for Battlefield 2042 has seen it become one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam in a little over a week. News of the game's poorly-received start to life comes despite it also being one of the platform's most-played titles since its launch.
According to data published by Steam 250's Hall of Shame, which ranks the worst-reviewed games of all time on the platform, the EA shooter is currently experiencing a pretty dismal launch as far as user reviews are concerned.
Currently ranked as the ninth worst-reviewed game of all time on the platform, Battlefield 2042 has seen over 30,000 of its 42,000 reviews on the platform come back negative. Despite the poor reviews, however, there are still plenty of people playing the game...
Marvel’s Avengers’ upcoming Spider-Man DLC will not feature story missions like those seen in the Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and Black Panther updates.
Rather than a short campaign with bespoke missions, Avengers’ Spider-Man: With Great Power story is told through audio logs and illustrated cutscenes that are unlocked by completing challenges that have been added to the regular Avengers Initiative multiplayer missions. Working through these challenges gradually unfolds a storyline in which Spider-Man uncovers AIM’s new plan to upgrade their Synthoid army.
Talking to IGN, Avengers’ Gameplay Director, Philippe Therien, explained why Crystal Dynamics chose this direction. “We want to spend our efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, so...
Finally, on November 30, Spider-Man is swinging his way into Marvel’s Avengers. If you’re playing on PlayStation, that is. I recently got the chance to spend two hours hands-on with Crystal Dynamics’ latest platform-exclusive addition to the roster and see everything the web-slinger has to offer, and came away looking forward to using his abilities, but a little worried about what it is I’ll actually be doing with them.
Peter Parker’s introduction to Avengers is slightly different to previous DLC characters Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Black Panther. Called a “Hero Event” instead of an “Operation”, Spidey doesn’t have his own story missions, but instead feels more akin to a character joining a hero-shooter roster. He’s an ability-stacked...

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has released its first major update and it provides fixes for Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
As detailed by Rockstar, these fixes include everything from "holes in the map" to "issues with character models in cutscenes" to the shockingly awful "issue with rain visual effects" in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
As of this writing, the update is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. We will update this story when it is released for Nintendo Switch and PC.
This is all part of Rockstar's plan to improve the quality of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition as, according to them, "the updated...
When Evan Narcisse was approached by Rise Home Stories about making the game that would eventually be Dot’s Home, he was already well-acquainted with many of the ways in which housing injustice impacts the Black community in America.
Narcisse says he had firsthand experience with gentrification, and knew about redlining and house flipping and the ways in which those actions prioritize prosperity for certain individuals over the stability of a community. And he recalls when his own mother became a naturalized citizen and was able to vote at last, and the ways in which that participation in democracy are tied to home ownership.
But he admits there was a lot he didn’t know. He didn’t know what a deed in lieu of foreclosure was, or a...

One of the most highly anticipated exclusive titles for Xbox One and PC was Scalebound, which unceremoniously got canceled in January 2017. Platinum Games director Hideki Kamiya is now apologizing for the game's development.
In a new interview with the YouTube channel, Cutscenes, Kamiya shed some new light on Scalebound's cancelation. He had the desire to make a high-end, photorealistic game. That meant Platinum Games had to improve its graphical abilities as the next step in modern game creation.
"I’m sorry to the players who looked forward to it, and moreover I’m sorry to Microsoft who had placed their trust in us as a business partner," Kamiya said. "I want to apologize both as a creator and as a member of Platinum Games."...
Rockstar Games has announced that it will be taking steps to improve the quality of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition starting with the first Title Update which will be released in the coming days.
In a new blog post, Rockstar says that "The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect." To this end, Rockstar will address the technical issues in the trilogy.
The hope is that with each update "the games will reach the level of quality that they deserve to be."
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is a collection of remasters that includes Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City...
Rockstar's definitive edition of the GTA Trilogy had a, um, not so great launch last week, and now Rockstar is responding by giving everyone back the original trilogy on PC. You know, the one with surprisingly fewer bugs.
In a blog post today, Rockstar apologized for the numerous technical issues plaguing the remakes, acknowledging that they hadn't met standards, and that the studio was planning to "address the technical issues and to improve each game going forward," beginning with an update in the coming days.
In the meantime though, Rockstar went further to acknowledge that maybe it ought not have removed the original, non-definitive edition trilogy from storefronts last month ahead of the definitive edition's release, and so...
Craig, the unfortunate Brute who fans turned into a meme following his low-quality depiction in a Halo Infinite trailer last year, has been discovered as an Easter Egg inside the game for the first time.
The first sighting of a Craig Easter Egg in Halo Infinite was made by YouTuber Mint Blitz when he came across a shrine to the character during the content creator's early access playthrough of the game's single-player campaign.
You can check out the Easter Egg, and how to get to it, in our video below:
As noted by Mint Blitz, the developer has left a number of references to the brute, which can be found on top of the tower at the start of the game's fourth mission. While Craig's first outing saw him taking shots to the body during...
343 Industries has revealed further information about the upcoming limited-time events coming as part of Halo Infinite's first multiplayer season, Heroes of Reach.
Shown off by the official Halo account on Twitter (below), the studio shared further information about the different events that Halo fans can expect in the game over the coming months. "With our 20th Anniversary event wrapping on Monday, Nov. 22, we wanted to look ahead at what’s to come. Draw your blades for Fracture: Tenrai, arriving next week," said 343 on Twitter.
Although the Fracture: Tenrai event has been confirmed as the first that fans will encounter this season, it's not the only event that 343 has shared in relation to Heroes of Reach. In the coming months...
Microsoft surprised us all with the launch of Halo Infinite's multiplayer this week, and Cardy, Jesse, and Matt have been getting into the Spartan groove by spanking as many people as possible. But not content with just giving opinions on the likes of Slayer and Capture the Flag, we've also got thoughts on the Halo Infinite campaign, which Matt has played the first chunk of.
Beyond Halo chat, we've also got a few bones to pick with the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, which hasn't exactly revitalised our nostalgia for the PS2-era of GTA. Balancing that out, we've got chat about Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the new Radiohead Kid A Mnesia Exhibition, a strange musical museum on PC and PS5.
