Hello Games, the studio behind No Man's Sky and The Last Campfire, has announced its next game: Light No Fire.
The developer also showed off a brief glimpse at the title at tonight's The Game Awards, showing off some open-world exploration. Per its official description, it's "a game about adventure, building, survival and exploration together. Set on a fantasy planet the size of Earth, it brings the depth of a role playing game to the freedom of a survival sandbox."
A release date and platforms were not announced.
It immediately looks quite similar to No Man's Sky, but whereas that title had players exploring the vastness of space, Light No Fire will take inspiration from "classic fantasy." The reveal trailer, all captured in in-game multiplayer, showed everything from the player flying about on a dragon to swimming underwater.
While No Man's Sky had a rough launch back in 2016, it's gradually improved quite a lot over the past few years. In IGN's initial review, Dan Stapleton gave it a 6/10, writing, "No Man's Sky reaches for the stars but falls short by light years. It's amazingly big, but too often poorly designed."
However, it's gotten a number of free major updates, and is now generally agreed to be in a solid place. In our 7.8/10 review of No Man's Sky Beyond, Travis Northup wrote that it's "vastly improved in virtually every way, from the number and scale of things you can build alone or with friends to the story and progression. But in its heart still beats a vicious grind and painful monotony that’s difficult to swallow even with all the new content and quality-of-life improvements."
