The superhero world was dealt a terrible blow with the news that actor Kevin Conroy has passed away at age 66. It’s no exaggeration to say Conroy defined the voice of Batman for several generations of fans, from his original work on groundbreaking Batman: The Animated Series to follow-up shows like Batman Beyond and Justice League to the critically acclaimed Arkham games. Bat-fans can and will debate on which actor best portrayed the character in live-action, but the simple truth is that Conroy was Batman, every bit as much as Christopher Reeve embodied Superman. With only the power of his voice, Conroy gave us the most nuanced and fully realized version of the Caped Crusader ever to appear outside the comics. This is how Conroy’s...

Ben Brode, the creator of Marvel Snap and co-founder of developer Second Dinner, has opened up about the possibilities of single-player modes for the multiplayer-focused card game. Speaking to IGN's Simon Cardy, Brode spoke on the team's thoughts toward PvE or similar single-player modes, saying so much of what makes Marvel Snap special revolves around multiplayer. "I don't know. The game is very different than other card games, right? And so a lot of the fun of the game is the mind games, and trying to kind of imagine what your opponent might do next," Brode said. "I don't know. I guess I would say we haven't done enough thinking about what that might look like to know for sure whether or not we'd be able to do something that'd be...
Sometimes the simplest, silliest games sink their hooks into me and don’t let go even while bigger, flashier options cry out for my attention – and then they reveal themselves to be not quite so simple after all, exposing layer upon layer of challenges, secrets, and even more silliness. That was what happened with Vampire Survivors, which despite looking very much like hundreds of other tiny pixel-art games on Steam that come and go every day, enthralled me and countless others nearly a year ago when it came out in early access and has kept me coming back ever since. What’s novel about it is that it’s basically a twin-stick shooter that does away with one of said sticks and all other buttons, leaving you to worry exclusively about...
Since the official release of Marvel Snap, fans have pondered the inclusion of Ego — the living planet played by Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In Marvel Snap, Ego takes control of cards and plays for you, effectively randomizing the outcome. There's no rhyme or reason to Ego's actions; his moves are completely arbitrary. So why include Ego at all? According to Second Dinner founder Ben Brode, who recently spoke with IGN on the occasion of Marvel Snap's launch, Ego's design stemmed from a simple question. "What would a location that's sentient do? Well, maybe it would play your cards for you. I don't know," Brode says. "So it was very what we call top-down design, where we start with the flavor and art, and then...

In response to a Tweet by IGN earlier today, fans began sharing their favorite episodes of The Animated Series in rememberance of the actor. Some fans remembered Conroy for his performance in the show's serious episodes, like "The Forgotten," which one fan called "pretty heavy": And "I Am the Night," which developed one of the show's key relationships: Other fans remembered Conroy for the show's lighthearted moments, like the maze scene in "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?": And, of course, some devoted fans...

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Control 2 is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Revealed in a blog post, Remedy and 505 Games are co-developing and co-publishing the sequel which was previously known as Codename Heron and thought to be a spin-off rather than a second mainline game. "With Control 2, we’ll take another leap into the unknown," said game director Mikael Kasurinen on Remedy's website.. "It’ll be an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait." Remedy confirmed earlier in November that Control 2 is still in the concept stage, meaning the game hasn't entered...

Among Us VR understands what made Innersloth’s murder mystery game so special when it came out in 2018 and brought us near-endless shenanigans by placing 10 people inside a spaceship while two Impostors try to murder everyone. This ground-up VR remake is a refreshing take on the premise that recaptures that suspense while introducing exciting new dynamics. Though its missing features may prove disappointing, what’s here is a great time. Right now, it’s one of this year’s best VR games. It’s hard to overstate just how polished Among Us VR feels when playing. Schell Games has adapted it to virtual reality well: the cel-shaded 3D art style works to great effect, and switching to first-person gameplay proves natural. Walking around a...

There are a ridiculous amount of different decks to be built from Marvel Snap’s vast cast of characters. But which will help you win the most matches? That’s the golden question. We spoke to creator Ben Brode and asked him for the inside scoop on three of his best decks as well as what his favourite overall card is. Deck 1 - The “Omega” Deck “Okay, so the deck I was playing earlier today is an Omega Red deck, and it's a sneaky deck”, says Brode. “It has a combo. The combo is three cards. It's Omega Red, Iron Man, and Onslaught. With that combo you have just a humongous amount of power in a location because Omega Red is five power, Iron Man doubles it, and then Onslaught doubles the double again. So it's just like you're going to win...
Saints Row is getting a huge new update, and it’s said to be "a beast." According to Saints Row’s Patch Hub, a new update is on its way in November, and it sounds as though it’s going to add a lot of new features. “We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience while we got this update ready for release,” developers confirmed. “It includes over 200 fixes and quality-of-life updates, so it’s a beast!” The update includes plenty of new features, but most notably, improves co-op. That’s right – Saints Row’s co-op system is getting an upgrade, making it much easier for you to team up with friends and rain chaos upon Santo Ileso. “Co-op has been a huge priority for us,” they explained. “Significant effort...

Two years after a controversy over Doom Eternal's soundtrack mixing highlighted a behind-the-scenes conflict between the game's developers and composer Mick Gordon, Gordon is finally speaking out. In a lengthy post on Medium, Gordon has offered his side of the conflict over Doom Eternal with an account that includes allegations that id Software failed to pay him for half the game's soundtrack, and that executive producer Marty Stratton was a recurringly abusive presence throughout his work on the score and the OST. For context, Gordon's issues were first highlighted back in 2020 when the Doom Eternal soundtrack was released alongside the collector's edition and fans noted discrepancies in sound mixing between the soundtrack and the...

The Disco Elysium situation has gotten even messier as its former directors are accusing the ZA/UM's majority shareholders of obtaining control of the company by fraud as the company is saying these employees were fired for misconduct. In October 2022, Disco Elysium editor Martin Luiga shared that key members of ZA/UM, including lead writer and designer Robert Kurvitz, writer Helen Hindpere, and lead of art and design Aleksander Rostov, had left the company in an "involuntary" manner. Later that month, Kurvitz filed a lawsuit against the company, and now we have a bit more details on his allegations against ZA/UM. Kurvitz and Rostov took to Medium to share more details about the ongoing situation at ZA/UM, and they level some heavy...

A 2D pixel art Metroidvania based on Dark Souls III was seemingly rejected by Bandai Namco. According to artist Thomas Feichtmeir (via Twitter), the side-scrolling Dark Souls 3 game was pitched to the company around 6 years ago… but, as we said, it was rejected. “A Dark Souls 3 - 2D pixel art Metroidvania was pitched to Bandai Namco [around] 6 years ago,” he said. “This is now finally out of NDA, so enjoy the visuals created back then.” A 2D pixel artist, Feichtmeir has worked on a number of Metroidvanias that were inspired by the darker tone of the Dark Souls series, including Blasphemous. Although the above screenshot is all we’ve seen so far, it does look pretty impressive with its depiction of the Dark Souls 3 boss, the...
