Good news for fans of cooperative chaotic games like Overcooked and the first Moving Out - the latter is getting a sequel. Announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, we got a look at the new furniture shifting antics of Moving Out 2.
In a sizzle reel featuring various moving jobs, Moving Day 2 was confirmed to include online co-op, meaning you will be able to work alone or with a friend. However you play, it looks to feature the same chaotic co-op moving action as its predecessor.
In our review, we called the original Moving Out "enjoyably tense and frequently hysterical," and since its launch it's also gotten multiple free updates and some DLC. We also got a chance to chat with Lenny Macaluso, the unusual but deeply talented source...
Today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, CI Games announced its Hexworks studio is rebooting its 2014 Souls-like Lords of the Fallen, with the new version getting just the smallest of title changes to The Lords of the Fallen.
Like its predecessor, The Lords of the Fallen is a dark fantasy action RPG. However, it appears to be taking advantage of the eight years difference between the two to expand massively on the ideas of the original. The Lords of the Fallen takes place over a thousand years after the first game in a world that is supposedly "more than five times larger" than that of Lords of the Fallen and is split between the realms of the living and the dead.
The world will contain NPC quests, a customizable protagonist, and a...
At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Striking Distance Studios founder Glen Schofield was there to deliver a new update to the upcoming sci-fi horror game, The Callisto Protocol.
During Opening Night Live, Schofield revealed a new gameplay trailer that showed off Callisto Protocol's combat. We got a good look at its extreme goriness, including the protagonist pushing an enemy into a weird meat grinder-like appartus, brutally stabbing a foe in the head, and getting sliced up by a giant fan at the end of a long sewer-like water slide.
We also learned about the "mutations" mechanic. Some enemies may have tentacles coming out of them - if you don't defeat the tentacle enemies quickly, they will mutate into much stronger versions with new...
Funcom officially announced its announced its open world survival MMO, Dune Awakening at Gamescom's Opening Night Live.
A short teaser gave us Dune's famous "Fear is the mind-killer" quote, while hinting at giant spice-harvesting vehicles, even more giant sand worms, and sand worm riding.
Coming for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and "is set on Arrakis and takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s Academy Award-winning film while exploring exciting new possibilities in the franchise."
It's the first we've seen of Dune Awakening, but we've known Funcom has been working on it. The company has been actively hiring for the project, saying "We invite you to come shape a world made boundless by its...
Bungie has revealed a ton of new information regarding Destiny 2's upcoming Lightfall expansion including a February 28 release date.
Announced during its Destiny 2 Showcase 2022, Lightfall will mark "the beginning of the end" and is set to be the next major expansion that pushes Destiny 2's story and gameplay forward, featuring the game's second Darkness subclass called Stand.
This new style of play appears to be heavily linked to traversal, as players will use it to grapple and swing around a whole new Destiny 2 map on Neptune. Strand involves the manipulation of spooky green psychic energy and will materialise in different ways depending on which class the player uses.
The Neptune map is called Neo Luna, a newly discovered city...
Like the Arkham series before it, Gotham Knights is a game that draws from many corners of the Batman franchise to create its own, cohesive universe. This is a game that shines a spotlight on the Dark Knight's former sidekicks and the shadowy Court of Owls. But the game isn't simply borrowing from existing Batman mythology; it's also making some key additions of its own. And one of those additions is the focal point of Gotham Knights' prequel comic book, Gilded City.
Written by Evan Narcisse (Rise of the Black Panther) and drawn by ABEL (Harley Quinn), Batman: Gotham Knights - Gilded City is a story that takes place both in the immediate leadup to the game and in Gotham City's distant past. And it all hinges on a new DC hero, a 19th...
In the hunt for something genuinely new, more and more developers are creating hybrids; smashing two genres together to make a wonderful Frankenstein’s monster of a game. Sunday Gold is one of the more enjoyably odd of these experiments I’ve seen in recent years. A mashup of Final Fantasy and Broken Sword, this slick-looking comic book crime drama is, bizarrely, a turn-based point-and-click adventure. And, from the three hours I’ve played so far, the combination appears to work surprisingly well.
Set in near-future London, where it’s always raining and the billionaires are fatter than they’ve ever been, Sunday Gold puts you in control of a trio of criminals attempting to bring down Kenny Hogan, the corrupt head of a massive...
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard was almost a live service game filled with microtransactions according to Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi.
Speaking with horror game veteran Shinji Mikami (and spotted by VGC), Takeuchi said there was a big marketing push at Capcom to make a game that “players are asking for”. At the time, this meant making a game with live service features, microtransactions, and other online elements.
"We were being told ‘make this, make that’," Takeuchi said. "It was really hard on the directors at the time. Online multiplayer this, downloadable content that. Ongoing service games. Microtransactions. 'Make a Resident Evil game that ticks all those boxes [they were told]'."
There were so many demands placed on the directors...
Good news if you’ve reserved a Steam Deck – it’s shipping a lot quicker than expected. Valve’s incredibly popular handheld PC has seen an influx of orders and preorders since it was first announced, and now it looks as though the company is finally getting a handle on production.
“A few of you may have received an order email for your ‘Q4 window’ Steam Deck reservation today,” said Valve’s Lawrence Yang via Twitter. “This wasn’t a mistake! Production has outperformed our estimates, and we’ll be moving more Q4 folks into the Q3 window.
“Official announcement and info coming soon,” he added. “In the meantime, check your email and visit [the Steam Deck website] while logged in, and check your reservation just in case it came in early...
Sega itself appears to have leaked a November release date for Sonic Frontiers after a new trailer for the game appeared on YouTube before being swiftly taken down.
Industry insider Nibel spotted the new trailer (below), grabbing a screenshot of its title screen that shows a November 8 release date. This matches the previously mapped fourth quarter of 2022 release window given by Sega, though the publisher hasn't explicitly confirmed this new date as of yet.
The trailer was publicly available on the Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel for just a few minutes before it was quickly made private (and therefore unviewable) again. It's likely the trailer that Sega planned to release during Gamescom that was teased by the game's...
Magic: The Gathering is celebrating its 30th anniversary next year, and the venerable card game is leading into the milestone with Dominaria United, the first set in a new story arc. It will see the game return to Dominaria, its original setting and one of the most storied planes in Magic history, where a cast of familiar races and characters will face a whole new assault from one of the great threats to the multiverse - the Phyrexians.
IGN has a brand new card to reveal for Dominaria United, and it very much ties into the 30-odd years of worldbuilding that makes Dominaria so special for Magic fans. Introducing, Serra Paragon:
This card references some key Dominarian history. “Serra was a powerful Planeswalker who came to Dominaria...
Volition has always been known for pushing technology, with its game Decent even beating the revolutionary Quake to a full 3D engine. In this Saints Row reboot, technology has remained a core pillar to build on. Using an improved proprietary engine, Volition has added the big-ticket item for this generation: ray tracing – or ray traced ambient occlusion to be precise, but more on that later. The current generation console versions offer I think the largest mode set I have seen in a console game to date. We are looking at the PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, as well as the Xbox One X to give you a flavor of what the last gen versions offer.
Modes of Play
All platforms offer a fixed set of resolution outputs, with no drops below the...
I wouldn’t expect roller skating and third-person shooting to be a chocolate and peanut butter situation, but Rollerdrome proves it can be just that. By essentially inventing a new single-player sport, OlliOlli World developer Roll7 has found enough ways to make both sides of this unique coin shine without getting overwhelming. Wrap that package in an intriguing world with more going on beyond the sport than you might expect, and I’ve found myself lost in match after match of skate-shooting mayhem.
The year is 2030, and you’re entering the Rollerdrome as a new skater, Kara Hassan. This brutally clever dystopian future bloodsport has participants skate and shoot for their lives against waves of “house players” - aka neatly identifiable...
Slightly Mad Studios announced that it will be delisting both Project Cars and Project Cars 2 from digital storefronts on October 3 and September 21, respectively.
“Due to expiring car and track licenses, both Project Cars and Project Cars 2 will be delisted from sale in the coming months,” the studio said on Twitter. “The games remain fully playable, and our players will still be able to enjoy all the game features, including multiplayer. We will remove Project Cars from sale on October 3rd and Project Cars 2 on September 21.”
The studio continued, “We remain focused on making the best sim racing titles, and as mentioned previously, we look forward to sharing more on the next Slightly Mad project when the time is right.”
That...
Grand Theft Auto creator Mike Dailly has been hit with copyright strikes for his own work.
Dailly was one of the founders of DMA Design, which eventually became Rockstar North and was responsible for the original Grand Theft Auto. But after he posted prototype videos and old design documents to social media, Rockstar issued the creator with a number of copyright strikes.
“I see Rockstar are going full f*****s mode again, issuing copyright strikes to any GTA video they can find - including both my prototype videos,” he said via Twitter. “So, now they're trying to block all release of anyone's work on a game - and any old development footage.”
Two videos on Dailly’s YouTube account were affected, both showing prototype renders from...
Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi is no stranger to borrowing dramatic themes and high-drama ideas from movies, and now we're learning his first project at Nagoshi Studio is inspired by one of the Hollywood greats: Quentin Tarantino.
Speaking to German publication 4players (translated by IGN), Nagoshi shared some brief insight about the types of violence and humor his next game could entail.
"Of course, I can't tell you much about our game yet, but I can give you a vague idea: violence will of course be a gameplay element, but I don't want to go too far into the direction of thriller or horror. My game will be closer to a Quentin Tarantino film — so humor may also play a role," Nagoshi said. "Something that's just intimidating or only...
IGN is excited to reveal two new cards from Magic: The Gathering’s next set, Dominaria United. We’ve got the first look at a new rare merfolk creature with kicker called Vodalian Mindsinger, as well as the latest in a long and storied line of Lotus artifacts with a mythic rare called Timeless Lotus.
Both cards are visible in the gallery below, and you can flip through to see each one individually.
Timeless Lotus is a five-mana Legendary Artifact that enters the battlefield tapped and can tap to add five mana, one of each color. That’s a ton of mana to come from a single mana rock like this, though the high cost and tapped entry do slow it down significantly. The two closest comparisons that came to my mind were Gilded Lotus, which...
Today, The Game Awards announced it will return for a ninth year on Thursday, December 8, broadcast from LA's Microsoft Theater.
The show will be livestreamed across numerous digital platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok, and will also include live showings at select IMAX theaters as in past years. Public tickets for the in-person show are expected to be made available this year as well, pending CDC and LA health and safety guidelines. As before, Geoff Keighley remains executive producer of the show alongside Kimmie Kim.
In addition to the usual musical guests and past award categories, The Game Awards will introduce a new category: Best Adaptation. Best Adaptation will "recognize creative work that...
The superpowers have been scrapped and the sex toys have been safely stowed back in the sock drawer – the new Saints Row has shed its shark-jumping silliness and smutty tendencies in favour of a return to its open-world gangland roots. However, this back-to-basics approach has borne out a fairly primitive kind of crime spree, and stripping the series of its more outlandish elements has laid this reboot’s design and technical inadequacies bare – with no pixelated modesty censor big enough to hide its junk. While there’s a decent amount of fun to be had chasing collectibles and causing chaos, outdated mechanics and repetitive mission design meant that by the end of my time with the new Saints Row I was desperate for something that could...
2K has announced that the standard edition of PGA Tour 2K23 will be available on October 14, with the more expensive Deluxe and Tiger Woods editions available a few days earlier on October 11.
The game aims to celebrate the legacy of Tiger Woods, who hasn't featured on a video game cover since 2013's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, even bringing in the golfing legend as an executive director.
PGA Tour will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, and PC via Steam. The Deluxe Edition includes "cross-generation dual-entitlement", meaning a copy of the game on both PS4 and PS5, or both Xbox One and Series, plus Michael Jordan DLC (yes, the basketball player) and 1,300 VC, equivalent to around $5. It also comes with a handful...
The Diablo 3 of today is very different from the one that launched in 2012. That game’s story was one of serious teething pains; of the controversial (and quickly jettisoned) Auction House, and of the much-needed Loot 2.0 redesign for 2014’s Reaper of Souls expansion. From there, however, Diablo 3 has gone from strength to strength. The game introduced a new and exciting layer for putting together builds in 2015 with Kanai’s Cube, allowing players to extract and equip bonus legendary powers. And since then we’ve also seen the arrival of the Necromancer class, new legendary and set items, a couple of new modes, and a few new demon-slaying locations.
Diablo 3 is now ten years old, and not only are millions of people still playing (which...
Gamescom 2022 is fast approaching and there are 6 full days of announcements to look forward to. To kick everything off, day one of Gamescom will feature Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live, but in-person this time! Opening Night Live, or, Gamescom: ONL comes after Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest that happened in June, which covered its own exciting announcements like TLOU remake for PS5. Summer Game Fest might have covered game trailers and gameplay in June, but Tuesday's Opening Night Live showcase will also feature more “game announcements, world premieres, and more on a huge stage!”
Although the event is in-person this year (in Germany), it will have online elements and ways to stream throughout the 6 days, so see the details...
If the wait for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has become too much to handle, Lucasfilm has announced that a new novel titled Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars will arrive on March 7, 2023, and it will tell a story set between the first game and the upcoming sequel.
As detailed by StarWars.com, Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars will be written by Sam Maggs and published by Del Rey and it "finds Order 66 survivor Cal Kestis leading the Mantis crew on an adventure set between the critically-acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the highly-anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor."
Maggs is no stranger to the world of video games, as she has worked on Anthem, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. She was...
SEGA’s Comix Zone and Space Channel 5 are getting their own movies.
The pair of obscure SEGA titles are being developed into films by Picturestart — the production company behind the upcoming Borderlands movie. While not the kind of games that immediately come to mind for film adaptations, it certainly looks as though SEGA is going all in on these obscure titles.
SEGA Vice President and Co-COO Shuji Utsumi is overseeing both films while Toru Nakahara, the producer of the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movies, is joining as executive producer.
Comix Zone was a cult classic on the SEGA Genesis — a side-scrolling adventure starring comic book artist Sketch Turner who is pulled into his own unfinished comic book by a villain he created. The...
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is getting a new crossover with… err… Journey?
The award-winning 2012 adventure game has inspired a new boss area in Bloodstained which will be added in Update 1.4 on August 23, 2022.
“This new section of the castle, The Tunnels, is inspired by the imagery and level design of Journey, but with a Bloodstained twist,” reads an official announcement. “Hidden behind a secret entrance, the Tunnels are large and will require exploration and shard abilities to navigate.”
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was launched in 2019 – a Metroidvania that tells the story of Miriam, a Shardbinder who was forcibly fused with demonically charged crystals to attune her to the demon’s powers.
And it’s not the first...
When footage of the upcoming indie game Squirrel with a Gun went viral last weekend, games like Untitled Goose Game and Goat Simulator immediately came to mind. But, behind the scenes, Squirrel with a Gun's creator is drawing inspiration from two unlikely places: the Yakuza franchise and Shadow of the Colossus.
Squirrel with a Gun is a game about exactly what it says on the tin and stars a squirrel who has a firearm. In an interview with IGN, Squirrel with a Gun creator Daniel DeEntremont shared the unique AAA game inspirations that have informed how the titular squirrel can interact with enemies and the environment.
"In Yakuza, I like all the heat actions where the little crazy, actiony cinematic [plays], so I put that in the...

The parade of PlayStation movie and series adaptations continues, as we're now learning Sony is working on a Days Gone movie.
Reported by Deadline, Sony PlayStation Productions is apparently developing the film with an adaptation from X-Men: First Class story developer Sheldon Turner. The movie will be produced by Vendetta Productions and PlayStation Productions.
Released in 2019, Days Gone is an open world action-adventure game set in the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest. The game stars Deacon St. John, a motorcycle-riding bounty hunter fighting to survive against the Freakers, zombie-like creatures that frequently attack in hordes. Deacon also spends much of the game searching for the long-lost love of his life. According to the...

Despite being free-to-play, MultiVersus was the highest-grossing game for July 2022 according to the latest NPD sales report. According to the data, the dollar sales were driven by sales of the game's Founder's Packs, which give players access to character tickets, in-game currency, and other cosmetic items.
The success isn't necessarily a surprise, following MultiVersus' enormous beta launch that saw a peak of over 140,000 concurrent players. In early August, before the game even left beta, MultiVersus passed the 10 million player mark.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play crossover platform fighter in the vein of Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. It features characters from across Warner Bros. slate of IP, including...
