Visions of Mana isn't coming to Xbox Game Pass after all despite the official website saying it would. A Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer that mentions of Visions of Mana on the Xbox Game Pass website were just a mistake, confirming the incoming action role playing game will not be available on the subscription service. "We're aware that Xbox.com included language that indicated Visions of Mana was coming to Xbox Game Pass and can confirm this was an error," the spokesperson said. "While we are always updating the library and looking for new ways to provide members with value and choice, we do not have plans to bring Visions of Mana to Game Pass at this time." Visions of Mana, which is set to launch sometime in the summer of...
Dragon Quest Builders is finally coming to PC via Steam, eight years after it launched on PlayStation and Xbox. A Steam page for the long thought forgotten game appeared alongside an imminent release date of February 13, 2024, meaning PC players can explore its Minecraft meets Dragon Quest style role playing game mechanics very soon. "The beloved block-building RPG, Dragon Quest Builders, is bringing its handy crafting features to Steam," its description reads. "Weave your own tale as you build your own unique buildings and towns to restore Alefgard to it's former glory." Developer Square Enix neglected to release a PC version of the game when it launched on January 28, 2016, but did release its sequel, the aptly titled Dragon...
There's a timelessness to Persona 3 – its story of confronting death with imperfect courage and carrying on in the face of tragedy left an everlasting impact on me when I first played it on PS2, even as RPGs evolved and the Persona series continued to grow. As I've gotten older and experienced the very things it's about, I've grown to cherish the earnestness of its message, the way it's framed, and the characters who embody these struggles even more. That makes it easy for me to get caught up in the hype of Persona 3 Reload, but it also sets the bar as high as Tartarus as this remake tries to recapture the magic of its original versions. But after spending 70 hours playing through it, I can no longer imagine Persona 3 without Reload...
Earlier this month, the inaugural Xbox Developer Direct gave us our first proper look at gameplay from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is coming to Xbox and PC later this year. Developed by MachineGames (Wolfenstein: The New Order), The Great Circle is a first-person action-adventure game boasting an original narrative set between the events of the first and third Indiana Jones movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Way back in January 2021, when it was first revealed that Bethesda had partnered with Lucasfilm Games to work on an Indiana Jones project, a short video teaser was released that I pored over on then-Twitter. I collated my findings into a trailer breakdown, and in the spirit of...
I'm going to interrupt our usual price-slash programming to issue a PSA. It seems that Spec Ops: The Line has been delisted from Steam today, and there's a good to fair chance it might go the same way on MS Store (a presumption on my behalf). It's an uncommonly special third-person shooter that deserves to be owned. I've found some third-party store stock that can be yours while it lasts. In retro news, it's been 10 years since we went undercover in the human world as a cephalopodtriarch. Deliberately awful to control and amazing because of it, Octodad is still the best slapstick afternoon you can have this side of a Three Stooges binge. More so if you can recruit three mates to each control a limb of this accident-prone papa in his...

Spec Ops: The Line is one of the most important games of the seventh console generation, but playing it on PC just got a little harder. The acclaimed military shooter was delisted from Steam without warning today, though it is still available on other PC storefronts and Xbox, where it is backwards compatible. The removal was first spotted by Wario64, who drew attention to the delisting on X/Twitter. If you navigate to The Line's Steam page, you'll be unable to purchase the game and see a notice saying, "Spec Ops: The Line is no longer available on the Steam store." It's not unsual for games to delisted from Steam, but it does stand out given Spec Ops: The Line's critical acclaim and historical significance. The Line's infamous white...
Maddy Makes Games is celebrating Celeste's sixth anniversary with its most ambitious reimagining of the cult favorite platformer yet. Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, which you can play now on itch.io, imagines a fully-3D version of the cult favorite platformer for the N64, complete with squat polygonal graphics and unique traversal challenges. The game's description reads, "Relive the magic of Celeste Mountain alongside Madeline in this small, heartfelt 3D platformer. Created in a week(ish) by the Celeste team to celebrate the game’s sixth anniversary." IGN has reached out to Maddy Makes Games for more background on the development of Celeste 64. That said, this isn't the first time that Celeste has been reimagined by its...

These are 7 details you may have missed in the latest Dragon Ball: Sparking ZERO trailer. Familiar Faces We see a ton of characters flash on screen in the first few seconds of the trailer. Bandai Namco has revealed the first 24 characters that will be playable in the upcoming fighting game Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, and we really hope you like Super Saiyans. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is the first title in the long running Budokai Tenkaichi series to be released in well over a decade. According to developer Spike Chunsoft, it'll feature reactive environments and a large roster of playable characters sporting their own "iconic" transformations, abilities, and techniques. And, earlier on Monday, Bandai Namco confirmed the identities of the first 24 playable fighters that will take center stage in the upcoming action battle game - each and every one of which is a variant of longtime series rivals Goku and Vegeta. Fans...
Embracer Group has reportedly canceled a new Deus Ex game that was two years in development and laid off some staff at Eidos Montreal. According to Bloomberg, the unannounced third mainline entry in the Deus Ex series was supposed to enter production later this year. However, developer Eidos Montreal will reportedly focus on an original franchise instead. Eidos Montreal released a statement on Twitter, addressing layoffs but not the reported Deus Ex game cancellation. "The global economic context, the challenges of our industry, and the comprehensive restucturing annonced by Embracer have finally impacted our studio," said the studio. "The difficult decision has been made to let go 97 people from development teams, administration...
Spoiler Warning: The following article features spoilers for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, though only on one character who appears in the Miss Match minigame. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth features the Yakuza series' most infamous character, who first showed up in Yakuza 0 and is still causing chaos 35 canonical years later. Infinite Wealth features plenty of minigames (though its Pokémon and Animal Crossing-inspired modes aren't so mini) including a dating game where protagonist Ichiban Kasuga must try and woo potential partners. While some of the partners are genuine, some very much are not, and Ichiban can find himself catfished by chickens, store mascots, and a handful of other folks pretending to be someone they're not...

The State of Play will last 40 minutes, Sony said on Monday, and include extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, both coming to PS5 this year, "plus more from talented game developers from around the world." Gears of War co-creator Cliff Bleszinski is confident Microsoft and developer The Coalition would benefit from his ideas, saying they would bring him in to consult on the next entry "if they were smart". Bleszinski posted a statement on X/Twitter to suggest Microsoft isn't interested in collaborating with him on more Gears of War games despite his assertion "it would be gold". "I'm down to consult, give my two cents. Crickets," Bleszinski said. "I understand that Gears will always be an enormous part of my legacy. I appreciate and respect that. That said, Microsoft or The Coalition haven't hit me up. Okay. It is what it is. If they were smart they'd enlist me for my input. "If they were smart, they'd enlist me for my input because...
Rocksteady Studios has been forced to pull Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League offline just one hour into its Deluxe Edition's early access launch due to a bug that automatically completed players' games. Though the Batman Arkham universe live service game doesn't launch proper until February 2, those who paid an extra $30 for the Deluxe Edition were granted three days of early access. This means it now should be available in New Zealand, but as reported by VGC, the game is currently offline and will be for "several hours". Rocksteady issued a statement on X/Twitter addressing the issue, though didn't indicate if the game would still be offline as of its launch in the U.S. or other regions. The developer didn't say if it would...
Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘Concerned Ape’ Barone has confirmed that the long-awaited 1.6 update will launch in 2024, and that it will likely be coming to PC ahead of console and mobile versions of the game. “1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned,” said Barone in a post on Twitter / X. “I'm done adding major new content to it now, though, and it's in a bug-fixing and polishing phase until it's ready for release. Thx for your patience. It'll be fun to see everyone play it!” In a subsequent post, the developer told one curious fan that they would be able to experience most of the new 1.6 content without having to start a fresh game, but also advised that a new file would allow fans to see everything in...
There’s a lot of story packed into the four games in the Batman Arkham series, and with the next chapter of it set to unfold in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we thought it was time for a catch-up. With a vast cast of iconic characters and plenty of twists and turns along the way, it can be fairly easy to forget everything that happened in Gotham so far, nevermind what it may all mean for Metropolis. Don’t worry though, we’re here to tell you about all the important stuff in as succinct a way as we can. Arkham Origins The one game in the series not made by Rocksteady, but instead WB Montreal, is chronologically the first: Arkham Origins. Set two years into his career, Origins sees Batman survive one snowy night in Gotham. On...
Final Fantasy 6 director Yoshinori Kitase has said a remake akin to that of Final Fantasy 7's could take around 20 years to complete. X/Twitter user Genki translated an interview with Julien Chièze in which Kitase, who's now a vice president, member of the board, and executive officer at Square Enix, said he's aware of how popular a remake of Final Fantasy 6 would be, but couldn't say for sure if it would ever happen. He then noted that, because of the depth of Final Fantasy 6, with so much content and so many characters, it would take twice the length of Final Fantasy 7 Remake to develop and release. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth arrives February 29 as the middle entry in the Remake Trilogy, four years after the previous game and nine...
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has logged the Yakuza series' biggest ever launch on Steam, with more than four times the player count of previous mainline entry Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Infinite Wealth, which arrived January 26 as the eight mainline Yakuza game, achieved a peak concurrent player count of 46,161 during its launch weekend, compared to the seventh mainline entry's peak of 9,535 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. The previous record was held by spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, which launched in November 2023, but even this was at just 13,737 peak concurrents and therefore blown out of the water by Infinite Wealth. These are the only comparable numbers for the Yakuza series, however, as...

Gameplay of a canceled Call of Duty codenamed NX1 has leaked online, revealing an effort to release a futuristic game in the franchise from former Guitar Hero developer Neversoft. Over the weekend, a Twitter / X account called @mangafigurines published two minutes of previously unreleased gameplay for what was reportedly called Call of Duty: Future Warfare, showcasing an explosive moon mission in low gravity conditions. The tweet, which has over 5.5 million views, saw a reply from Brian Bright, who was multiplayer lead on the game at Neversoft. Bright confirmed the footage is from NX1, and explained its origin. It turns out that after the acrimonious exit of Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella and their formation...
Today is the day, bargain hunters. It's time to pounce on some "whole shebang" collections that have all entries included. Alternatively, I've also found a bunch of isolated single-shot games that can be ruthlessly picked off for next to nothing. Get amongst it. Show those deals no mercy. In retro news, today is a doubly auspicious day for vampire-infested video games where one must make like Devo (i.e., problem comes along, you whip it). I would also like to highlight the 14th birthday of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, an absolute rare gem of a fighter that must be resurrected from the Wii's back catalogue and remastered far and wide. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays for notable games. - Super Castlevania IV (SNES) 1993. Get - Harvest...

Suicide Squad’s “early access” period will start to go live around the world late Monday night on consoles (and 10am PT Tuesday on Steam), which means that’s when it’s officially out, practically speaking. Unfortunately, we won’t have a review of Rocksteady’s new game-as-a-service looter shooter for you right away, as codes have not been sent ahead of time – in fact, Warner Bros. Games informed IGN that it has declined to send us codes at all. That’s disappointing because we always strive to have a full opinion on a major game available for you at launch, but it’s well within WB’s rights, as sending out review codes is neither an obligation nor something we take for granted. We will purchase our own copies and start our review in...
Back in 2011, FromSoftware released a spiritual successor to its 2009 cult classic, Demon’s Souls. This new game, titled Dark Souls, was a tough sell: a punishing, hardcore RPG where players attempt to survive a haunting fantasy hellscape teeming with gruesome monsters that could eviscerate them in seconds. At the time, it was hard to imagine the team’s crushing new creation would become one of gaming's most revered modern franchises. However, Dark Souls’ ruthlessly satisfying combat, brutal yet compelling boss encounters, and story-rich world transformed it into a global phenomenon, inspiring an entire genre of challenging RPGs that’s still thriving over a decade later. With FromSoftware’s work on the Dark Souls franchise now wrapped...
