The Grand Theft Auto series continues to heavily influence the industry, as many have been quick to parody the colorful teaser template Rockstar used last week to announce the date and time for the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6. Specifically, game development studios have hopped on the trend, posting images using the same sunset-esque colors to announce when to expect new information on a game they are working on. 343 Industries was among the first to parody the template, borrowing the same vibrant color aesthetic to announce a new trailer for Halo Infinite drops on December 4. Sea of Thieves developer Rare also used the template to announce that new information will be available on its pirate-themed game on December 7. While...
Starbreeze, the developer of the Payday series of games, has announced an officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons game due out at some point in 2026. The untitled game, codenamed Project Baxter, will be developed and published by Starbreeze, the company said. Details are scarce, but Starbreeze said Project Baxter is set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons and “will carry the signature Starbreeze game cornerstones of co-operative multiplayer, lifetime commitment through a Games as a Service-model, community engagement and a larger than life experience”. Project Baxter will launch on all major platforms in 2026 and include cross-play, Starbreeze added. The game will be produced in Unreal Engine 5. Starbreeze published two images for...
CD Projekt Red has revealed the full notes for Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.1, the final major patch arriving December 5, which includes details on the metro system, romantic partner hangouts, new vehicles, and more. Revealed in a blog post, Update 2.1 — which arrives at around 3am Pacific / 6am Eastern / 11am UK — is headlined by the long-requested metro system, which was shown in the original Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty's cinematic trailer. Players can travel between 19 metro stations, either by sitting inside the carriage and waiting for the full, immersive role-playing experience, or by fast traveling for convenience. Romantic partner hangouts will also arrive in the update as another much requested feature. CD Projekt Red...
Stardew Valley creator Erik ‘Concerned Ape’ Barone has taken to X/Twitter to give fans a progress report on the RPG's highly anticipated 1.6 update, and to shed light on his motivation for continuing to work on the popular 2016 farming sim over seven years after it came out. “A ton of progress on 1.6 last month, it's (self-imposed) extreme crunch mode, nose to the grindstone (raw nose) mode,” said Barone in a recent post. “Here's one of the many additions in 1.6. Keeping mostly everything secret.” An accompanying screenshot revealed that a new storage chest, which can hold almost twice the amount of materials/items as a regular chest, will be coming to the game as part of the 1.6 update. Sadly, the new post didn’t give any concrete...
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has announced that Starfield has now seen over 12 million players. Speaking during the CCXP event in Brazil, Spencer described Bethesda’s space RPG as “a tremendous hit”, although failed to announce sales figures or the split of players between Game Pass subscribers and owners of the game itself. “Starfield has now had over 12 million players since the launch of Starfield, and it still sits in our top 10 most-played games from our studios,” Spencer said. “So thank you everybody for all the support on Starfield, and making it a tremendous hit.” Starfield launched on PC and Xbox Series X and S in September as a day-one Game Pass title. It became the biggest launch in Bethesda history after shooting past six...
Cyberpunk 2077 will receive its "last big update" tomorrow, December 5, 2023, as developer CD Projekt Red turns its attention towards the sequel, codenamed Orion, and the next mainline Witcher game, codenamed Polaris. Speaking to IGN, CD Projekt Red confirmed Update 2.1, which arrives alongside the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, is the final major update for the three year-old game. CD Projekt Red, as well as ramping up development for its next mainline Witcher game, codenamed Polaris, is switching focus to the full Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. A post on X/Twitter from global community director Marcin Momot first implied this was the case, saying CD Projekt Red had "one more patch for Cyberpunk 2077" up its sleeve. IGN reached out for...
Mortal Kombat 1 development chief Ed Boon has confirmed plans to continue the story of the game and teased further surprises. Speaking at the CCXP23 event in Brazil, Boon announced what sounds very much like an Aftermath-style expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, but stopped short of revealing any details. “Just like we did with MK11, we’re going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that,” Boon said. Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath story expansion launched just over a year after the game itself, and included an additional story mode, new characters, new stages, stage Fatalities, and the Friendship finisher. It seems reasonable to assume Mortal Kombat 1 will get similar content as part of the continuation...
Not only has NetherRealm revealed the release date and gameplay of Quan Chi, it has also given us our best look yet at John Cena's Peacemaker and Khameleon as a Kameo fighter. Quan Chi is one of the characters that make up Mortal Kombat 1's Kombat Pack, and the legendary sorcerer will become available to those who have purchased the DLC package on December 14. If you just want Quan Chi and don't want to purchase the Kombat Pack, you will be able to unlock him on December 21. The trailer is a great showcase for Quan Chi, who first appeared in the animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. His first video game appearance was Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and he made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat 4. The...
The era of the bad movie tie-in is over. Today, we’re living in an age where games based on licensed IP are among the cream of the crop: the Batman Arkham franchise, The Witcher games, and Insomniac’s Spider-Man series are all critically acclaimed top sellers. Hoping to run alongside them is Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. But Ubisoft faced a challenge that Rocksteady and Insomniac never did: Frontiers of Pandora isn’t just a licensed game, it’s canon to the Avatar universe. That means everything in it is a recognised part of the official Avatar story, approved by the studio who made the original movies. Anything Ubisoft created had to fit perfectly within this existing, intricate world. Achieving this required extensive...
The Fortnite team has confirmed that Fortnite OG and the original map will be returning in 2024 as the "OG season far exceeded our expectations." The exciting news was shared by Fortnite's account on X/Twitter and it teased that we we can expect to jump back in to the map that first welcomed us into the Battle Royale game back in 2017 next year. "Ngl the OG season far exceeded our expectations," Fortnite's account wrote "So much so that we’d like to bring it back… opens 2024 roadmap doc In the meantime, see you on the Battle Bus." This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as the love for Fortnite OG was overwhelming and saw Fortnite have its 'biggest day' ever with over 44.7 million players jumping in to take a trip down memory...
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1: Underground has arrived and it comes with a ton of changes and additions, including a new island, a train that goes all across the map, weapon mods, over 1,200 LEGO Style outfits, bosses, a new Battle Pass with Peter Griffin and Solid Snake, and much more. This new chapter in Fortnite is all about taking the fight to 'The Society' by joining 'The Underground.' You must do all you can to not only take down a group of bosses led by Valeria, but also rescue our beloved Peely from their clutches. Oh, and if you thought Valeria was tough, wait until you go against Family Guy's Peter Griffin, who is amazingly also a boss alongside Oscar, Nisha, and Montague. Defeating bosses will gain you a Society Medallion...
Fortnite's The Big Bang event has officially arrived and it served as not only an epic dimension-hopping adventure that featured a performance by Eminem, but it introduced new LEGO, Rocket League-like racing, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band-like music games headed to Fortnite. The event began when a meteor struck the map and collided with The Zero Point. This opened up a tear in space and time that took you and everything else around you through multiple realities or dimensions. You enter a LEGO Fortnite world where you and your team become LEGO characters and tour the world on a glider. In it, you see LEGO people building, a monstrous dragon attacking a castle, a bustling town, and so much more. Everything is made out of LEGO and the...
LEGO Fortnite is a brand new survival crafting game that is set to arrive in Fortnite on December 7, 2023, and it is the first play experience from the long term partnership between Epic Games and The LEGO Group. While details are still a bit scarce, it was revealed that, "Within LEGO Fortnite, players can explore vast, open worlds where the magic of LEGO building and Fortnite collide. Designed for people of all ages to enjoy together, the game will encourage creativity, experimentation and collaboration through play." Epic Games and The LEGO Group annonuced their partnership back in 2022, and the goal is to "shape the future of the metaverse and make it fun and safe for all." The partnership is governed by three principles, and...
Street Fighter 6 rocks. And I'm not just saying that because my character throws tiny rocks at people (sandblast all day, every day). It's one of the best games that came out this year, all of us who reviewed it had fun, and the series, itself, continues to enjoy a great place in the competitive fighting game scene. Right now, Street Fighter 6 is celebrating this success with a limited-edition vinyl set of the original soundtrack. Giving you 180 minutes of listening, and some cool bonuses, this limited-run vinyl disc set won't be available forever. With that said, let's get into the nitty-gritty of what's on offer here. Street Fighter 6 Original Soundtrack - Collector’s Edition Vinyl This four-disc set includes music for tons of...

Bethesda Softworks stunned Steam users earlier this week when players discovered that Starfield developers were actively replying to negative reviews on Valve’s PC platform. It was unusual to see such a major company diving deep into reviews, but what was even stranger was the replies themselves. Some eye-grabbing quotes saw Bethesda arguing that Starfield is, in fact, not boring, comparing its sci-fi video game to the level of excitement Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin might have felt when they landed on the moon. These comments quickly made their way to social media, and when they did, many were stunned to see one of the biggest companies in the industry replying to crowds of displeased players. Some developers were quick to...
This morning's news that Grand Theft Auto VI's first official trailer will be dropping on Tuesday has sparked a huge amount of excitement through a games industry, and now other games are getting in the act as well. Following that announcement, Halo Infinite revealed that it's getting a new trailer of its own, even going so far as to borrow the purple and orange tinged aesthetic of Rockstar's image. In case you missed it (somehow), here's the GTA 6 trailer image from earlier today. Yep, it's definitely intentional. If 343 Industry's poster was a little bit of a desperate bid for attention for a shooter that launched more than two year ago, it worked. Fans picked up on the reference immediately and seemed to appreciate the...
Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy Entertainment has seemingly revealed that a New Game Plus mode will be added to the game in December 2023. A cryptic but admittedly on brand X/Twitter post from Remedy didn't explicitly say New Game Plus would be arriving in December but it heavily implied as such. Alongside an image that showed Alan Wake pointing his flashlight at a wall that said New Game Plus, Remedy posted: "New month, new game... plus?" No details on what the New Game Plus mode will entail were shared — whether certain abilities will carry forward, if new content will unlock, and so on — nor did Remedy say exactly when the update would arrive. Alan Wake 2 launched October 27 as a sequel to the original game more than a decade in...
CD Projekt Red has revealed what's included in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1, unexpected patch arriving on December 5 alongside the Ultimate Edition. Revealed during a Twitch stream, Cyberpunk 2077 producer Monika Janowska and quest director Paweł Sasko, alongside senior community managers Amelia Kołat and Alicja Kozera, announced that the patch will include the long requested metro system. The original trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 featured the metro system, alongside the Phantom Liberty cinematic trailer, so CD Projekt Red decided to finally add it, Sasko said. Players can travel between 19 metro stations which can be used as either a fast travel point or a proper metro ride experience (that can be skipped at any time). There are five...
Activision has announced Call of Duty DMZ will no longer receive new content updates, sounding the death knell for the mode. The Infinity Ward-developed DMZ launched last year as part of Warzone 2.0, and went down well with fans and critics. Its sandbox extraction gameplay riffed on the likes of Escape from Tarkov, and offered something a little different for Call of Duty. "It’s a really fun and refreshing change of pace between rounds of battle royale," we said in IGN's Warzone 2.0 review. However, fans of DMZ have complained about a content drought this year, with some lamenting a lack support compared to Modern Warfare’s traditional multiplayer and the battle royale. It didn't help that Activision called DMZ a “beta”, which raised...
While Street Fighter 6 is a hit with fans of Capcom’s famous fighting game series, its monetisation has caused an uproar. The latest offender is the hotly anticipated Outfit 3 release, which gives each of the 18 launch characters an eye-catching new costume to wear. Each Outfit 3 is available for 300 Fighter Coins (Street Fighter 6’s premium currency) and includes all 10 available colours. Unlike Outfit 2, Outfit 3 is only available for purchase with real-world money and cannot be unlocked via World Tour mode. The problem here is that Capcom only sells Fighter Coins in bundles of 250 for £3.99 / $4.99, 610 for £9.49 / $11.99, 1,250 for £18.99 / $23.99, and 2,750 for £39.99 / $49.99. This means there’s no way to buy 300 Fighter Coins...
Fortnite's next season looks set to feature Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake and Family Guy's Peter Griffin, according to a leak from Epic Games and Xbox. Unofficial Fortnite news X/Twitter account ShiinaBR shared an advertisement on the Xbox Store (below) that seemingly went up a little too early, revealing the next cast of characters soon available in Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 1, dubbed Underground. Timed relatively close to Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1's launch, series protagonist Solid Snake will likely arrive in Fortnite as part of the update. While only his classic sneaking suit can be seen in the image, acting as a throwback to the original Metal Gear Solid, Fortnite's tendency to release variant skins could mean...
After the success of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Capcom has confirmed plans to continue the trend, although stopped short of announcing which Resident Evil game is next in line for the remake treatment. At a PlayStation partner awards event in Japan, attended and translated by IGN Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo said the company will announce its next Resident Evil remake in due course. “Yes,” Anpo replied when asked if Capcom wants to keep making Resident Evil remakes. “We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue...
Warning: Spoilers for the Baldur's Gate 3 epilogue, as added in Nov. 30's Patch 5, as well as the voice cast Dungeons & Dragons session below. From thousands of lines of dialogue to a much better inventory system a whole get-together post-game, Larian Studios introduced a slew of exciting updates in its absolutely massive Patch 5 on Thursday. But the most niche? Bing Bong. Bing Bong is canon. For those who don't know (which will probably be plenty of fans), Bing Bong is an imp NPC who was introduced when the voice cast of Baldur's Gate 3 played and live-streamed a session of Dungeons & Dragons in-character back in September. If you've ever played D&D, you know how quickly a seemingly random NPC can become the star of the party, and...
Spoiler Warning: This article features spoilers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and minor spoilers for the Witcher book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. No one beyond CD Projekt Red knows what the next Witcher game, codenamed Polaris, is going to be about. That includes Geralt of Rivia himself, but his voice actor Doug Cockle certainly has some theories. Speaking to IGN, Cockle made clear he doesn't have any insider information on the next instalment — which has so far only been teased through a single image showing a Witcher medallion in snow — but shared what he thinks, and hopes, will feature in Polaris. "Their focus for the game is not going to be Geralt. They've said that, so I'm really excited to see what their focus is. I have ideas...
Gearbox Publishing and developer Blackbird Interactive have announced a Homeworld 3 release date of March 8, 2024, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The launch date for the long-awaited third entry in the Homeworld series was announced as part of today’s PC Gaming Show. It’s a bit later than the project’s previously promised February window, but it’s still a date that players can look forward to after waiting for more than two decades since Homeworld 2. Preorders for the sci-fi story RTS are available now, giving players the option to choose from four versions: Standard, Deluxe, Fleet Command, and Collector’s Edition. Those who purchase the Fleet Command or Collector’s Edition will be granted early access starting on March...
Thank your own personal deity—possibly the All-Mother—it's Friday! For the record, that was a topical choice of goddess back there because Horizon Zero Dawn on PC is going for its lowest price ever today. I'm also seeing quite the clean-out of older sports titles on Amazon. They're brilliant Christmas presents if you have sharpie skills and can morph a "22" into looking like a "24." If not, perfectly acceptable stocking fillers. This Day in Gaming Aussie birthdays for notable games and hardware - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MD) 1992. Remaster - Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB) 1993. In a livestream today developer Grinding Gear Games made a slew of announcements, including a first look at a new playable class in its upcoming ARPG Path of Exile 2: the mercenary. The long-awaited sequel, which announced way back in 2019, is still a ways away from its closed beta kicking off in June of next year, but in the meantime a steady stream of reasons to get excited have come our way, including IGN's hands-on time with the druid class a few months ago. The class revealed today though, dubbed the mercenary, is in a league all its own. Armed with a slew of crossbows, including those capable of sniping from across the map, peppering enemies with elemental effects at close-range, or even blasting away hoardes with...
A proper Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal is on the horizon, but that isn’t stopping Rockstar Games from adding a groundbreaking feature to Grand Theft Auto Online: animals. The GTA and Red Dead Redemption maker announced its plans to bring furry creatures to its long-running open-world multiplayer experience in a post on its website. There is, however, a caveat, as animals are only coming to players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – not PC. Players have long questioned the absence of animals in GTA Online, especially considering the base GTA 5 experience featured animals upon its release in 2013. Even if PC players are excluded, it’s a major change that some players are trying to wrap their heads around. GTA 5 has been out for a...
Skill-Based Matchmaking in Call of Duty has long been the subject of scrutiny and debate within the community, only fueled by the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Nov. 10. Now, though, the Call of Duty team has finally acknowledged it. The news comes from ModernWarzone on X/Twitter, which notes (as we at IGN believe) that this is “possibly the first time they’ve spoken publicly about it." When reached by IGN, a spokesperson for Activision says it "stems from a live conversation from Call of Duty reps at an event, and accurately describes what was said. We will not be issuing anything further at the time." See the lengthy statement below: This statement is quite a reversal from a little more than a week ago, when Modern...
