Not to start with a massive spoiler for Act 2 of life, but middle age has few upsides before the nosedive into elderliness begins in earnest. I always figured the greatest perk would be more disposable income to buy sicker toys and gadgets, however, there’s no time to enjoy any of it. That being the case, I’ve modified this supposed mid-life bonus into something I've dubbed Connoisseur Gaming Inception—the pure satisfaction of slyly introducing a younger family member to an unknown gaming genre, just to see if you can watch a new passion take flight. I’m being quite literal with today’s example. Recently, my eldest glanced up from his usual nine-hour Geometry Dash binge to mention Star Wars Squadrons was in his price range (i.e...
Bethesda continues to add support for supersampling technologies in its latest release, as the developer announced that the latest update for Starfield now includes support for FSR 3 and XeSS. In a new blog post, Bethesda reveals the patch notes for Starfield update 1.9.67. As mentioned, the biggest additions coming into the sci-fi RPG are the inclusion of the third-generation FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and Intel's Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) tech. The announcement is no surprise, considering Bethesda released a beta version on Steam that allowed players to access FSR 3 ahead of its official release earlier this month. Like Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), FSR and XeSS are designed to provide more mileage in your...
Helldivers 2 Patch 1.000.10 is starting to roll out on Steam and PS5, which developer Arrowhead hopes will address some of the numerous issues that fans have encountered over the past week. Chief among them are issues with matchmaking and server issues, as well as the PC black screen problem. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt wrote on X/Twitter, "Patch going out now. Highlights include resolved matchmaking and prep for increased server load. Let's gooo!" In addition to the problems listed above, the Helldivers 2 patch also addresses ragdoll momentum, tunes the difficulty for the extract civilian missions that have been wrecking players, and implements an automatic retry mechanism for quickplay. Helldivers 2 has been a hit since its...
It appears Lady Gaga is going to make an appearance in Fortnite Festival, as the singer is teasing an upcoming collaboration with Epic Games. In a post on X/Twitter, Gaga posted an image of what appears to be her Fortnite character but is masked by a bright light and smoke. The bottom right corner of the screen reveals a Fortnite Festival-related announcement is coming on February 22. The more interesting part of this is Lady Gaga made this teaser post by quoting a post she made on X/Twitter over four years ago when she asked her followers (and anyone who saw the post) what "fortnight" is, with the singer more familiar with the Fortnite franchise given her proper spelling of Fortnite in the most recent post. Lady Gaga is the latest...
Asymmetrical multiplayer fans looking to add another game from the genre into their rotation will be happy to know that the video game adaption of Killer Klowns from Outer Space will arrive this June. As previously confirmed, the video game adaptation of Killer Klowns from Outer Space is an asymmetrical multiplayer game. As you can see from today's trailer, it provides the suspense and tension typical in other games in the genre, most notably Dead by Daylight. But the humor...
No Rest For The Wicked sees Ori developer Moon Studios building an action RPG for the very first time. But despite its familiar isometric perspective, the project is very different from popular ARPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile. Combat in No Rest for the Wicked is deliberate, tactical, and every swing of the sword counts. In short: if you like the nail biting experience of Dark Souls boss battles, then it looks like Moon Studios may be making your next favourite game. “The major goal for our combat was to make it feel super visceral,” reveals Thomas Mahler, Moon Studio’s co-founder and creative director on No Rest for the Wicked. “To make sure that we create a combat system where animations also really matter. That when you press a...

With less than two months to go until Fallout hits the small screens, Bethesda has announced a new compilation based on its popular post-apocalyptic franchise. Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Anthology is a compilation featuring seven Fallout games. Like the Fallout Anthology released a few years back, this compilation includes Steam codes for the PC versions of the games, as well as a Mini-Nuke replica. The compilation costs $60, with preorders now available at the Bethesda Gear shop, though the anthology is supposed to be sold at other retailers. The Mini-Nuke replica is a lovely collector's item for fans of this nuclear-fuelled franchise that stores the cards and features a sound effect that produces an explosion. Or, if you are really...
There’s nothing quite like cruising down an empty highway while blasting your favourite tunes as the sun sets in the rearview mirror. Trade the empty highway for anomaly-infested roads, the music for ominous radio interference, and the setting sun for a series of pocket hurricanes and you’d find yourself describing Ironwood Studios’ Pacific Drive. Blending the frustrating realism of car maintenance with a surreal sci-fi setting, Pacific Drive is a punishing but consistently intriguing survival game – one that tested both my driving proficiency as well as my wits. Following some suspicious meddling by scientific corpo-body ARDA, an area of the Pacific Northwest has been walled off from the outside and dubbed the Olympic Exclusion Zone...
Italian developer Untold Games has announced City 20, a new systems-driven city simulator set in a post-apocalyptic world in which the city will adapt to your actions, good or bad, as you attempt to survive in what's left of the world. It's in development for PC, with an Early Access release scheduled for later this year. Take a look at the announcement trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. City 20 promises emergent storytelling, a reactive gameplay sandbox, resource management, and a unique look. As the remnants of civilization eke...
Microsoft has confirmed the games coming to Xbox Game Pass during the second half of February. Out today are first-person narrative adventure Return to Grace (Cloud, Console, and PC) and fantasy RPG Tales of Arise (Cloud, Console, and PC). Coming soon, on February 22, is Bluey: The Videogame (Cloud, Console, and PC). This game based on the hugely popular kids TV show got a 4/10 from IGN. “Bluey: The Videogame may look the part but, with shonky controls and barely two hours of gameplay, everywhere else it’s a dog’s breakfast,” we said. Two games hit Game Pass on February 27: single-player action-RPG Maneater (Cloud, Console, and PC), and Madden NFL 24 (Cloud), via EA Play. (Madden NFL 24 is already on Game Pass Console and PC.) IGN’s...
One of the stars of 2023 hit Baldur's Gate 3 has joined the cast of Fallout: London, an expansion-sized mod coming to Fallout 4. In its latest video update, developer Team Folon revealed Neil Newbon, the actor behind Baldur's Gate 3's much-loved vampire companion Astarion, plays an unannounced role in Fallout: London. No other details for Newborn's character were given, save the teaser image below, but it won't be long before fans can hear him in action as Fallout: London launches April 23, 2024. Newbon's video game career goes beyond Baldur's Gate 3 as the actor also appeared in Final Fantasy 16, Resident Evil Village, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Resident Evil 3, Detroit: Become Human, and more. He's also no stranger to performing...
Need for Speed Unbound is back with a second year of live service. Developer Criterion issued a year two roadmap blog post, saying: “Surprise! We're still here, and not just here — we have a whole year's worth of content coming to you!” Another 12 months of content is planned from a small team, Criterion confirmed, although it warned players: “We’ll be honest and admit we can’t build everything everyone wants right now, but we can decide together what NFS should be in the future.” “Our vision is that through our second year of live service, you can, for the first time, begin to play the ultimate NFS experience in one place,” Criterion said. “Your feedback and gameplay will help shape the future of this iconic franchise.” Fans can...
Ubisoft is finally releasing the long-delayed permadeath mode for Assassin's Creed Mirage in title update 1.0.7. The patch notes for the update — arriving today, February 20 at 4am Pacific / 7am Eastern / 12 noon UK — include various other changes but is headlined by the permadeath mode originally due in December 2023. "Do you think you've experienced everything Assassin's Creed Mirage has to offer?," Ubisoft asks. "Our newest game mode Full Synchronization Challenge (aka permadeath) is the ultimate test of your assassin skills." Dying isn't the only thing that will end the game for good though, as committing illegal actions like killing citizens or going outside of authorised map locations will also end the game for good, whether...
The Epic Games Store will give away three classic Fallout games for free later this year after pulling them from the next week's offerings. Speaking to IGN, an Epic Games Store spokesperson confirmed Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel will still be part of the storefront's free giveaways in 2024, but just won't arrive next week as originally announced. Epic advertised the three games as being available to download for free for anyone with an account from February 22 to 29 before quietly pulling the announcement with no explanation, and didn't offer a reason to IGN when asked either. Super Meat Boy Forever replaced the three Fallout games as next week's freebie. The original Fallout, not developed by...
As Helldivers 2 continues its struggle to cope with the influx of players, the boss of its developer has cautioned against buying the game right now. Yesterday, February 19, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios said it would release updates on PlayStation 5 and PC this week that aim to tackle the "most serious problems" the game is currently facing, including login, matchmaking, and server load. The first of these fixes arrives today, February 20, but Arrowhead warned players "no single update will solve all the issues." Helldivers 2’s explosive launch has seen an astonishing peak concurrent player count of 411,359 on Steam. That’s high enough to pass the all-time Steam concurrent peaks of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5...
Let me cut right through the preamble and toss you into the deep end of today's bargain bin. If you're a fellow Switch owner, I'd push you right towards the classic mascot price massacre that is Super Mario Odyssey at 52 bucks and Sonic Frontiers for 39. I'm also all about that Bruce Wayne PC sale, despite it also including Rocksteady's underwhelming latest. Honestly, just buy the LEGO Batman Trilogy for 7 clams instead... In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd birthday of Rez, Tetsuya Mizuguchi's synesthesia masterpiece. One part Panzer Dragoon on-rails shooting and another part LSD degrees of "ohhh, I can seeee the muuuusic," this Dreamcast must-own stands up today, particularly inside of a PS VR2 headset. This Day in Gaming...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has said it will be releasing updates on PS5 and PC this week that aim to tackle the "most serious problems" the game is currently facing, including login, matchmaking, and server load. The first of these fixes will arrive tomorrow, February 20, but Arrowhead wants us to remember that "no single update will solve all the issues." Arrowhead took to Discord to share the message, saying it has a plan to make "continuous improvements over the days and weeks to come" to ensure a smooth experience for all players. "Hello there Helldivers," Arrowhead wrote. "We have improvements rolling out this week focused on the most serious problems in the game: login, matchmaking, and server load. You will...

Helldivers 2 director Johan Pilestedt has commented on the "incredible" impact the squad-based shooter has seemingly had on the viewership of the 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers. Pilestedt shared a post on X/Twitter showing that Starship Troopers rose through the ranks from 109 to 45 as the "most popular movie online" (ranked by engagement score) as of February 17. The statistics provided are courtesy of Television Stats, a website that tracks data and shares performance metrics for various titles. Helldivers 2 became available on PlayStation 5 and PC on February 8 and quickly surpassed God of War to become Sony's biggest ever game launch on Steam. It also immediately drew comparisons to Starship Troopers, the 1959 novel...
Cooperative sci-fi shooter Warframe is coming to Apple devices tomorrow, February 20. Revealed in a trailer from publisher Digital Extremes (below), the announcement made no mention of an Android release despite Warframe being available on practically every other platform. "Players will be able to continue the progression of their Tenno on the go with full cross-platform save functionality," a statement from Digital Extremes said. "Continue the sci-fi expansive journey in a variety of missions alone or with friends in co-op with Warframe launching on iOS on February 20 alongside its release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC." Plenty of gameplay was shown in the trailer too, though...
Changes to the Steam listing for Dragon’s Dogma 2 suggest it will get a demo. Redditor CannedBeansofDeath spotted changes made to the game’s listing on Steam via SteamDB that reference ‘free on demand. .This is believed to be a demo for the $69.99 action role-playing game, due out March 22. Dragon’s Dogma 2 developer Capcom has form when it comes to demos, of course. It released one for its hugely popular Resident Evil 4 remake in the run up to its March 2023 launch. Thoughts now turn to the form the Dragon’s Dogma 2 demo might take, given its massive map. And it’s worth noting Capcom likes to hide secrets within its demos. Resident Evil 4 remake's included a cheat code to unlock 'Mad Chainsaw' difficulty mode, so fans will no-doubt...
Star Wars Jedi actor Cameron Monaghan said he is open to portraying series protagonist Cal Kestis in a live-action setting, as long as it furthers "the story or the character in some way". "It would have to be right,” said Monaghan after being asked whether he would be interested in playing Kestis in a live-action Star Wars project during a panel appearance at FanExpo Vancouver 2024, as reported by The Direct. “By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way,” explained the actor. “I don't want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then...
Publisher Nacon is finally ready to show more of its open-world Terminator survival game during a showcase set for later in February. Nacon Connect, set for February 29, features 30 minutes of new videos showing off the likes of GreedFall 2: The Dying World, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, Ravenswatch, Crown Wars: The Black Prince, and the new Terminator game. Nacon announced the as-yet untitled Terminator game back in 2022. It’s in the works at Nacon Studio Milan, and takes place in an open world set between the events of Judgment Day (the Skynet nuclear strike that causes the apocalypse) and the formation of John Connor's resistance. You play as a group of nuclear apocalypse survivors fighting to stay alive. As Nacon said at...
Helldivers 2 saw a huge weekend during which it broke its own concurrent players record multiple times and even passed GTA 5's Steam peak, but it was also a frustrating weekend for many who struggled to log in and play with the servers at capacity. Now, the Helldivers 2 community is calling for developer Arrowhead to add an away from keyboard (AFK) auto kick feature to the game after players admitted leaving it on all day and theoretically at least blocking others from getting in. Helldivers 2 players on the game’s Discord are saying they are not logging out on purpose so they can ensure they can play when they want to. One user said they left themselves logged in to Helldivers 2 before they went to work to make sure they could play...
Sega has called its Crazy Taxi reboot a triple-A game. In December, during The Game Awards 2023, Sega announced new games in the Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi franchises were in development alongside the teaser trailer, below. The video shows brief gameplay clips of each of the games set to return. We haven’t heard much about the initiative since, but in an article published by the Japan Times, one Sega executive referenced the Crazy Taxi reboot specifically and called it a triple-A game. Takaya Segawa, who runs Sega’s support studio in Sapporo, said: “We’re responsible for titles such as Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! in cooperation with the bases in...
Seven years after it was thought lost, a Fallout New Vegas mod that adds Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst as a companion has resurfaced — and received a nod of approval from the man himself. The background to the mod is rather innocuous: it gained some attention in 2015 because it added a post-apocalyptic recreation of Fred Durst to Obsidian’s much-loved role-playing game who could only talk in Limp Bizkit sound clips. (Yes, if you tell Durst “let’s get going” he replies with the iconic “keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’,” line.) The mod disappeared from NexusMods around seven years ago, with its creator @Lb8068 posting in the YouTube comments of his video at the time: “I recently reformatted my computer so doubt I have any of...
