Konami has released a chunky PC patch for the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 which brings it to version 2.0.0. The Metal Gear Solid website said the patch is currently only available on PC via Steam but coming to other platforms at a later date. It coincides with the release of Steam Trading Card and Badges support, though this isn’t unlocked via the patch itself. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is perhaps getting the most changes. These include expanded screen settings to include resolution options, the ability to switch cutscenes between their original version and a high resolution version, and additional control settings. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is also getting the expanded screen settings and controller...
The Legacy of Kain franchise is enjoying a major resurgence in 2024. Fresh off the reveal of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered at Sony's latest State of Play, Dark Horse is debuting a pair of killer statues featuring series icons Kain and Raziel. Check out the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive first look at the Legacy of Kain: Kain and Raziel statues: These statues previously appeared in prototype form at SDCC 2024 (where they inadvertently leaked the existence of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered), but now they're available to preorder exclusively on the Dark Horse Direct website. The two polyresin statues will be sold separately but are designed to be displayed as a diorama, depicting a major battle between...
One of the most impressive mechanics in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is its Tyranid swarm technology. Built upon the tech used to power swarming zombies in developer Saber Interactive’s World War Z, it sees hundreds of the terrifying xenos swarm not only in the distance but close to you and your squad mates. It’s an incredible sight to behold: the Tyranid swarm crashing over the landscape in the distance and, closer to the player, clumping together to climb walls or emerge from higher-up platforms before assaulting the Space Marine squad’s position. It adds a sense of scale and impending doom to Space Marine 2, and makes some of the game’s set pieces truly memorable. What’s more, you can actually shoot individual Tyranid units as...
Palworld’s long-awaited PlayStation 5 release shadow-dropped yesterday, September 24 after an announcement during Sony’s State of Play broadcast, but while gamers in 68 countries worldwide were downloading the survival and crafting game dubbed 'Pokémon with guns' on PlayStation, Japanese gamers were blocked from doing so. The official Japanese Palworld account tweeted that the game’s PS5 release in Japan “has not yet been decided” but failed to explain why. "We apologize to everyone in Japan who was looking forward to it, but all of our staff will do our best to deliver it to PS5 users as soon as possible, so we hope you will wait for a little longer," read the statement. "We look forward to your continued support of Palworld." It...
Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm decided on its next game three years ago, Ed Boon has confirmed. In a tweet, Boon said NetherRealm planned to support Mortal Kombat 1 “for a long time to come,” after an interview with ComicBook quoted the developer as saying “NetherRealm's next game has been in development for three years.” “Love the fact that there is excitement for our next game,” Boon later clarified. “And I don’t want to be a stickler for words... “But we haven’t been working on our next game for three years already. The actual quote was that we knew what our next game was going to be three years ago. “NetherRealm is still fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come.” Boon’s comments come as...
The self-inflicted video game leaks are showing no signs of slowing down as Microsoft has now leaked a handful of Minecraft reveals from the September 28 Minecraft Live showcase. Reddit user ozzAR0th spotted an update to the Minecraft Live website that included a 'Watch the Highlights' section as if the showcase had already wrapped. “Get the latest and greatest news from this year’s show,” it said. These highlights will include “a first look at the pale garden and its hostile mob, the creaking,” though no further details were shared on what this possible biome and baddie will be. The showcase will also reveal “insight into bundles and Hardcore mode.” Finally, fans can expect more information on the somewhat infamous A Minecraft...
Welcome back to saving a bunch on top games while reminiscing on the retro greats that made us. I'll be your host for today's discounts, which include a slightly cheaper Black Myth: Wukong and $12 VR games for anybody who bought a PS VR2 to play the best of PCVR. That's what I'll be buying 'em for, at least. In olden times news, I'm equipping the Grunt Birthday Party Skull for Halo 3's 17th. The AU launch for this was more or less a life event for myself and many of you—to the tune of 50K units ($6M) sold in 24 hours. Perspective check: That was one-in-four Xbox 360 owners, and a bigger dollar debut than the previous title holder, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (the film). Personally, I was stoked to finally "finish the...
Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus monthly games for October 2024 at today's State of Play, which will be available from October 1 through November 4, 2024. The biggest edition to the line-up is WWE 2K24 on PS4 and PS5, which IGN gave an 8/10 in its review and compared to its predecessor saying, "While not drastically different, WWE 2K24 is better in almost every way, touting small but smart additions to well-tested systems and modes as opposed to taking bigger risks." Next up is last year's remake of Dead Space on PS5, which we gave a 9/10 and called "a superb remake and undoubtedly the definitive way to experience one of the best survival horror shooters that Capcom never made." Finally, PS Plus users will get access to Doki...
The upcoming LEGO-Horizon crossover, LEGO Horizon Adventures, received a release date: it will be released on November 14 for PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch – matching the date that Sony accidentally leaked last month. LEGO Horizon Adventures, a family friendly take on Guerrilla's two-game (so far) series about Aloy and her survival in a world taken over by machines, was announced back in early June. We got to play it in June; check out our preview impressions. We also wondered about who exactly this game is for – though it is pretty cool that everything in the game could apparently be built out of real-life LEGO sets. Catch up on everything announced at today's State of Play livestream. Ryan McCaffrey is IGN's executive editor of...
Sony has confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn will be the next in its string of remasters, officially unveiling the project at today's State of Play. Its release date is October 31. The new project will include 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue along with other visual enhancements. Those who already own the PS4 version will be able to upgrade for $9.99. While this is the studio's first official look at project, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was seemingly accidentally confirmed last week via an ESRB rating. A remaster had been heavily rumored for some time before that, however, with reports of its existence stemming back to 2022. Those rumors only ramped up back in May after Sony pulled Horizon Zero Dawn from PS Plus. Sony hadn't...
During the Sony's September 2024 State of Play livestream, Capcom showed a new story trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. But the big news was the reveal of the game's launch date: the Monster Hunter Wilds release date is February 28, 2025, and it'll be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For a recap on everything else, check out our roundup of everything announced during State of Play. This story is developing. Continue reading...
We already knew Keanu Reeves would be voicing Shadow in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but he's taking his voice talents to Sega's video games as well. Announced during today's Sony State of Play (in a moment of pure "wait, was that Keanu?"), Reeves will voice Shadow as part of an upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations DLC, the "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack." Interestingly, the update will arrive on December 12, a week before Sonic the Hedgehog 3's release on December 20, and be inspired by scenes in the movie. It's certainly the latest big development in what Sega's dubbed "The Year of Shadow," — and really, it's hard to get a bigger headliner for it than Reeves. We first learned that Reeves would be playing the famous hedgehog...
During a segment featuring PS5 Pro architect Mark Cerny in today's Sony State of Play, a number of games were confirmed to support Sony's upcoming mid-gen refresh console, including Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Assassin's Creed Shadows. Cerny referenced his 10-minute presentation from earlier this month in the new State of Play before teeing up a montage of big-name third-party games that will support Sony's $700 enhanced PS5. Though we haven't yet played them on PS5, we have recently had hands-on previews with Dragon Age: The Veilguard (twice, in fact) and Metal Gear Solid Delta, which we felt was an incredibly faithful remake for better and for worse. Resident Evil 4 Remake...
Just days after Nintendo sued developer Pocketpair for alleged patent infringement, Pokemon-with-guns game Palworld has appeared at Sony's State of Play in a surprising shadow drop: the game is out on PS5 at last, starting today. The monster battling adventure materialized during the State of Play today featuring a player character cheekily designed to look rather like Horizon: Zero Dawn's Aloy, complete with a team of pals. We didn't really see any new game details in the trailer, but it concluded with the message that the game is out today on PS5. Palworld's release on PS5 comes just after the news that Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are filing a lawsuit against developer Pocketpair, alleging that Palworld infringes on multiple...
The Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has officially called a strike against League of Legends, with the union saying that a company that produces the game, Formosa Interactive LLC, tried to subvert the ongoing video game strike. SAG-AFTRA posted a strongly worded statement on its website today, accusing Formosa of “a flagrant violation of labor law.” According to the statement, Formosa allegedly tried to “cancel” one of its struck video games after the start of the strike. When the company was told that was not possible, SAG-AFTRA says, Formosa “secretly transferred the game to a shell company and sent out casting notices for ‘NON-UNION’ talent only.” SAG-AFTRA calls the alleged...
Activision has announced all the changes coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer based on feedback to the recent beta. Black Ops 6, due out October 25, has Multiplayer developed by Treyarch, with the Campaign developed by Warzone developer Raven. Treyarch outlined the various changes to Multiplayer that will be made in time for Black Ops 6’s release date. The developer also addressed the ongoing community debate about the size of the multiplayer maps after the beta maps revolved around very small, often chaotic close quarters gameplay. Treyarch insisted the majority of Black Ops 6’s 12 core 6v6 maps at launch are medium-sized, and that the eight maps in the beta “trended smaller in size” and included some Strike maps...

It turns out that it’s really hard to kill a Tekken character, especially with gravity. Despite Tekken series creator Katsuhiro Harada doing his best to convince us that Heihachi Mishima was actually, really, truly 100% dead this time around, lo and behold the third DLC character for Tekken 8 is none other than the King of Iron Fist himself. The upcoming free story expansion for Tekken 8, titled Unforgotten Echoes, is all about explaining the how and the why of Heihachi’s return, and as part of a preview event, I got to play the entirety of the two-hour-long DLC campaign. My general impression? If you’re able to turn your brain off and just let it take you for a ride, it’s more good (albeit quite silly) ass Tekken story content...
Developer Relay has announced Gravity Forge, a new third-person co-op-supporting "horde-slaying movement shooter" powered by Unreal Engine 5 that puts you in the shoes of a parkour-expert assassin who can manipulate gravity (including walking on walls), create gravity wells, and more in a dieselpunk setting. It's in development for PC. Check out the first trailer above and the first screenshots in the gallery below. Relay describes how they're aiming to set their game apart: "Gravity Forge offers the player an extra degree of freedom in both movement and combat. The environment becomes a weapon. You can walk on walls, create gravity wells, change properties of the environment (gravity, size, mass), and discover new ways to interact...
As we edge closer to the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, there’s been an overwhelmingly positive reaction from those who’ve had the chance to preview the game. An exhaustive character creator, slick combat, and expansive scenery definitely left us excited to get our hands on The Veilguard this October. But if you’re a Dragon Age fanatic you may be wondering about one incredibly vital thing: who do we get to kiss? As part of our continuing IGN First coverage, we sat down with game director Corinne Busche to talk romance and relationships as vital parts of the game. The Veilguard is a veritable candy shop with different flavors of romance. You want a buff gym rat? Taash. A heroic pet dad? Davrin. An elegant older fellow with an...
Dungeons & Dragons' iconic Baldur's Gate has been recreated as a modern city in Cities: Skylines, using Baldur's Gate 3 as a guide. Reddit user Impossible_Active271 shared their creation with a handful of side-by-side screenshots, showing how the medieval fantasy city of Baldur's Gate has been reimagined as something one might see today. Main streets have been replaced with highways, pubs have been replaced with diners, towers have been replaced with skyscrapers, and so on. Even the statue in the middle of the city stands recreated in the Cities: Skyline version. A top down view of the city is also compared with a map of Baldur's Gate, showing how the modern city similarly folds around the ocean with docks jutting out. It's not...
Six Days in Fallujah is getting a large update in November, bringing with it the first of its promised documentary story missions. Called the Command and Control update, its two story missions will focus on the opening of the Second Battle of Fallujah, which began on November 7, 2004 and saw some of the conflict's worst fighting. The missions will include documentary videos that play before, during and after missions, featuring interviews with both Iraqis and Americans who were present during the fighting in which more than 100 members of the military, over 1,000 insurgents, and at least 800 civilians were killed. According to the release, the missions will focus at least partly on the origins of the Islamic State group as well as the...
With Sony’s September 2024 State of Play broadcast just hours away, the inevitable leaks have begun. First up we have the heavily rumored Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered, assets for which were spotted on the PlayStation Store before being swiftly removed. According to the store description (via resetera), Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1-2 Remastered is developed by Embracer-owned video game revival specialist Aspyr, and launches December 10, 2024 to coincide with Soul Reaver’s 25th anniversary. There’s even a trailer and a number of screenshots, all lifted from PSN before Sony reversed its mistake. “Experience the epic conflict of Kain and Raziel in original form or with remastered graphics,” reads the description. The games...
With Mortal Kombat 1 expansion Khaos Reigns almost upon us, developer NetherRealm has lifted the lid on its new characters and, in particular, its brand new animalities. Animalities, free for all Mortal Kombat 1 players as part of an update released today, September 24, see characters transform into an animal before tearing apart their opponent in the trademark over-the-top style. Animalities return to Mortal Kombat alongside the release of Khaos Reigns, having made their debut in Mortal Kombat 3 all the way back in 1995. Now, NetherRealm has revealed Peacemaker’s Animality. Peacemaker, a DLC guest character lifted from the DC Universe featuring the likeness and voice of actor John Cena, transforms into an eagle for a patriotic...
Original Life is Strange developer Don't Nod has announced it had a rough start to the 2024/25 financial year and has pressed pause on two projects as a result. Don't Nod's latest financial report revealed its recent release of Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden "did not achieve the commercial results" it hoped for and it has changed its plans going forward as a result. The studio is "temporarily pausing two projects in the design phase," for example, enabling it to "prioritize resources and maximize the chances of success of the titles with the greatest potential at present." This will seemingly see Lost Records: Bloom & Rage pushed to the forefront following a "particularly positive reception" at Gamescom, Don't Nod said...
Frostpunk 2 developer 11 bit studios says it’s already broken even amid a collapse of the company’s share price. In a tweet, 11 bit studios said its self-published city-building survival sequel has already sold over 350,000 copies since going on sale on September 20. That milestone was announced just a few days after launch. What’s more, revenue made from the game so far is already enough to cover the cost of development as well as marketing. “The total estimated sales revenue has already covered the costs we spent on producing and marketing the game,” 11 bit studios said. “Big, big thank you to you all for your support! It (almost) melts our frozen-solid hearts. The work doesn’t stop here, we are continuously working on improving...
Just days after PlayStation game God of War Ragnarok launched on PC to a ‘mixed’ Steam user review rating over its forced PlayStation Network account linking, a mod has been released that bypasses the requirement entirely. Sony had made it clear on the God of War Ragnarok Steam page that a PlayStation Network account would be required to play Sony Santa Monica’s purely single-player adventure, but that failed to prevent a number of negative reviews singling out the policy. While God of War Ragnarok’s Steam user review rating is now up to ‘mostly positive,’ one modder has decided to take matters into their own hands by stripping out the PSN requirement. iArtorias’ NoPSSDK mod, which has been downloaded 1,764 times from Nexus Mods at...

The developer of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is in talks with Sony over the game’s potential support for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. PS5 Pro, due out in November priced $700, has an AI-powered upscaling feature called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) that can automatically improve the image clarity of games. In an interview with IGN, Saber Interactive Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits said he’s hopeful the PS5 Pro will improve Space Marine 2 by default via PSSR. “What I'm excited about is the AI upsampling of the graphics,” he said. “So I have my kickass AMD machine, a kickass Nvidia machine right there. And the game looks f***ing great. But when I play on the PS5, I play performance.” Space Marine 2 has two...
Though this is a place of daily deals—the polar opposite of exorbitant prices—let's talk about the (suspected Australian) pricing of the new 30th anniversary range of PS5 products. A known and legit leaker at Dealabs Magazine has divulged some US prices, which allows us to extrapolate. TL;DR: the 30th DualSense should be A$125, and the PS5 Slim Digital console ought to be A$780-$800. The PS5 Pro Bundle isn't mentioned, making this next statement an even bigger guesstimate: probably A$1700+. In retro news, I'm celebrating the 32nd birthday of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, a true RPG classic. I co-played this around launch with my SNES-owning neighbour, and it was an all-consuming experience—tense dungeon crawling/puzzling...
