Survival RPG Enshrouded Gets Big New Update
The survival action RPG Enshrouded just launched a new update called Souls of the Frozen Frontier, and it adds lots of new content. There’s a new region with new loot and quests, a higher level cap, new crafting tier, new dynamic weather changes, and lots more. It’s the biggest update since the game launched in early access. For the uninitiated, Enshrouded is a third-person survival game that takes place in Embervale, a massive open world that up to 16 players can explore at once. The game world is entirely made out of voxels, and you can terraform the world around you to build a base, castle, or even a village block by block. There are tons of options to build your ideal home. Want an underground lair? You can build that. How about a...
Stardew Valley 1.6 added a hidden experimental multiplayer feature to the mobile version of the game, developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has revealed. In a blog post, Barone said the feature is hidden because it may have some bugs or issues, and the nature of the mobile platform “could make a multiplayer session frustrating.” “Mobile multiplayer works pretty much the same as on other platforms, except there is no farm ‘discovery’ capability,” Barone explained. “You can only connect via IP. You can, however, join a PC-hosted farm from a mobile device via IP.” The ideal “mobile multiplayer” scenario, Barone added, would be to connect to a PC-hosted farm from a high-end mobile device on a local network (using wi-fi, unless you have...
Smash hit co-op shooter Helldivers 2 seems ripe for a crossover, but which franchises might it partner with? That’s a fun conversation players have been having ever since the game’s explosive launch earlier this year. Now, Helldivers 2’s creative director has had his say, revealing a number of intellectual properties he’d love to work with. In a tweet, Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt cautioned against doing too many crossovers, saying “it would dilute the IP and make it a ‘not Helldivers’ experience.” However, he also published an extended list of IPs he “really would love to do a take on!” Aliens Starship Troopers Terminator Predator Star Wars Fifth Element Blade Runner Warhammer 40k Trench Crusade...
Ubisoft has released its first developer update for Star Wars Outlaws, with new creative director Drew Rechner promising big changes after the open world adventure debuted to disappointing sales. Rechner said in the update that Ubisoft had been "gathering and actioning players' feedback" since launch and has identified key areas where it can "elevate the game experience to better meet" player expectations. Sentiments such as these are often seen in the wake of disastrous game launches but Star Wars Outlaws debuted to positive reviews. Poor sales shook a struggling Ubisoft, however, and it is now working to improve the game ahead of what it hopes will be a sales bump alongside its Steam launch and the holiday period. This will...
Metal Slug Tactics lives up to its stone-cold classic namesake from SNK’s golden era with its painstakingly detailed pixel art, head-bopping soundtrack, and snappy structure. It magnificently translates the run-n-gun series into its first turn-based tactics game, but doesn’t sacrifice substance for cheap nostalgia, either. Aside from a few annoying quality-of-life issues and bugs, Metal Slug Tactics’ excellent retro-inspired shell houses a well-made, distinct, grid-based tactics roguelite that cleverly adapts its frantic roots into a more orderly genre without missing a step. Like pretty much every mainline Metal Slug game (the most recent being 2009’s Metal Slug 7), Tactics puts you in command of the Peregrine Falcons, an elite...
Assassin's Creed Shadows will lay the foundation for a new modern day story after years of Ubisoft struggling to match the interest in Desmond's storyline from the original Assassin's Creed games. Marc-Alexis Coté, Ubisoft's vice president executive producer of Assassin's Creed, said at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) event attended by Eurogamer that Ubisoft has "struggled to find its footing" with the modern day aspect of Assassin's Creed in recent years. "Desmond's journey was at the heart of the modern day conflict driving the search for powerful Isu artefacts, Pieces of Eden, that could change the course of history," Coté said. "However, with his death at the end of Assassin's Creed 3, we faced a creative...
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 now a week old, fans of the Multiplayer portion of the game are having their say on the controversial — and unskippable — Winner’s Circle feature. The Winner’s Circle shows the top three performing players from the winning team after the Play of the Game has run its course. Under normal circumstances it lets each player who does well enough to appear on the podium perform an emote, most of which are either toxic or hilarious depending on your point of view. Black Ops 6 isn’t the first Call of Duty to feature The Winner’s Circle mechanic, as it’s appeared in the likes of Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare, and WWII. But it’s impact feels particularly pronounced this year, and the debate around it was only...
I'm pretty happy that I can direct you, without fuss, to the very free and criminally under-bought Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy. If that slick, '80s-infused action isn't for you, pick up a fedora (freely again) to slip into the patently awesome Mafia: Definitive Edition. Otherwise, I've scoured the stores for a wide range of other bargains. Get amongst them before they're gone. In retro news, I have something different for you. Typically I pick a yesteryear game of the day, drag out the console that hosted it, play it, and then post photos of that. Today, you can spot that stockpile of retro machines as I'm unboxing and adding a new entry to their midst—the PlayStation 5 Pro. This PS-provided unit is being used by me to evaluate 50+...
Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone finally brought update 1.6 to console and mobile devices today, but there’s one small issue – everyone’s chickens are going missing. The developer warned players about the poultry disappearances in a post on X/Twitter. He says that those who start a new meadowlands farm and open their animal door on day one will find that their chickens are vanishing. It’s a public service announcement that let’s players know that there's a small issue with update 1.6, and a fix is on the way. Until a follow-up patch arrives, ConcernedApe says players can blame their missing chickens on a sneaky coyote that only appears on day one. It’s unclear when Stardew Valley will fix its missing chicken...

Treyarch and Raven Software have published yet another Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 update, this time targeting a few of the game’s more annoying elements, such as the flashbang screen effect, the Recon Combat Specialty, and the spawn system. The November 4 update is only the developer’s latest patch seeking to iron out the experience. Although players quickly took to this year’s Call of Duty when its release date arrived a few weeks back, many have made it clear that there are more than a few kinks left to deal with. Today’s update is one of the beefiest yet, as it tackles common issues and more while promising to provide even more specific fixes in the future. One tool that players of every skill level can’t seem to stand is the...

Stardew Valley 1.6 finally hits the console and mobile versions of Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone’s 30 million-selling farm life simulation game today, November 4, and with it update 1.6.9 launches across all platforms. The Stardew Valley 1.6.9 update for consoles, mobile, and PC rolls out from 10am PST, although the exact time it will be available may vary from platform to platform, Barone tweeted. Fans do have the Stardew Valley 1.6.9 changelog to run through now (check out the patch notes below). The patch notes are just for 1.6.9, but console and mobile get all the previous 1.6 content as well. There’s a lot to dig into with 1.6.9, but new content and features include the ability to find a lost item via a new friend who appears in...
Sony has published a list of over 50 PS5 Pro enhanced games available at the $700 mid-gen upgrade console’s launch on November 7. In a post on PlayStation Blog, Tim Turi, Content Communications Manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment, published a list of 55 games set to receive the PS5 Pro Enhanced treatment in time for the console’s release later this week. The list includes many games already confirmed to be receiving PS5 Pro updates, but there are some fans did not know about, including the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Activision has yet to detail the enhancements PS5 Pro will deliver to Black Ops 6, which is based around 60 frames per second on all platforms (including last-gen). Black Ops 6 is one of two...
Insomniac has detailed the enhancements coming to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS5 Pro, saying the mid-gen upgrade enables the “quintessential version of the Spider-Man experience.” In a new video, below, developers from Sony-owned Insomniac talk about the PS5 Pro enhancements for Spider-Man 2, including much-improved ray tracing (yes, even in the puddles!), detail, and the ability to play at 60 frames per second but with the visual quality normally reserved for fidelity mode on the base PS5. Senior creative director Bryan Intihar said that Spider-Man 2 running on base PS5 was a “compromise between the creative vision and the technical limitations” Insomniac ran up against when developing the 2023 adventure, which has sold over 11...
Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox Game Pass November 2024 Wave 1 lineup, which includes Metal Slug Tactics, Goat Simulator Remastered, and lots of StarCraft. First up, on November 5, Metal Slug Tactics (Cloud, Console, and PC) hits Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as a day one launch. “Metal Slug is making an explosive return!” reads the official blurb. “Dive into this dynamic tactical RPG with a roguelite thrill and experience the iconic run’n’gun action of the original series, redefined. Grab your weapons, assemble your squad, and conquer the battlefield to defeat the infamous Rebel Army.” November 5 is also a big day for Blizzard’s StarCraft as more Activision games enter Game Pass following Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition...
Lords of the Fallen has launched update 1.6, which adds a “more refined” tutorial and further performance improvements and gameplay balancing. Lords of the Fallen is a dark fantasy RPG released in 2023 as a sequel/reboot of the 2014 original. Taking inspiration from the Dark Souls games, it tells the story of fabled Dark Crusaders who must embark on an epic quest to overthrow Adyr, the demon God. In our 8/10 Lords of the Fallen review, IGN said: "Lords of the Fallen is an awesome Soulslike with a fantastic dual-realities premise, even when performance shortcomings and wimpy bosses crash the party." Developer Hexworks also added a “more exploration-friendly” Umbral realm with update 1.6, as well as enhancements to take advantage of...
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now just $14.97 on PS5 at Amazon, a significant $35 off its list price. Despite some disappointment from Ubisoft, the game has garnered praise for its classic feel and modern polish, with many critics calling it one of the better releases this year. If you’re looking to play on the Nintendo Switch, Walmart has it marked down to $17.97 as well, providing options for fans on multiple platforms. We gave Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown an 8/10, with reviewer Phil Hornshaw stating: "Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown captures not only what made games such as The Sands of Time so good, but it irons out a lot of the little issues that plagued the 3D games in this series by opting for a 2D perspective – and...
Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t even a week old, but the mods are coming in thick and fast. In these early days, the most popular on Nexus Mods revolve around performance improvements on PC and various character presets, and there’s even one that strips the purple from the game to make it look more like a dark fantasy RPG. Let’s start with the latter. Vktrfly’s Dark Fantasy Look-Up Table (LUT) mod is a reshade that aims to remove the purple/magenta elements from the game and give it “a darker, more atmospheric look.” Ever since BioWare unveiled The Veilguard gameplay, fans have debated its art style, with some lamenting the developer’s decision to go for a heavily stylized, almost cartoony look compared to the more gritty, realistic...
Treyarch has confirmed plans to nerf Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Recon perk after a backlash from players since the game’s launch last week. The Recon 3-perk bonus lets players see enemies through walls for a short time after respawn, as well as add a HUD edge flash when an enemy is outside your view, and you leave no death skulls when killing enemies. To activate the Recon bonus, you must equip three Recon perks, for example Ghost, Engineer, and Vigilance. It’s the seeing enemies through walls bit of the Recon perk that has sparked much debate within the Call of Duty community, with some even calling it a wallhack. Black Ops 6’s competitive multiplayer is played out on mostly small, close quarters maps with frequent dying and...
The Monster Hunter Wilds beta gave fans a first chance to play the game before its release in 2025, and while it proved enormously popular it also sparked a debate about combat. Some fans have complained that Wilds’ combat feels floaty, or not as impactful as it is in other Monster Hunter games. This feeling, according to one player who has analyzed frame data for Wilds and compared it to that of prior Monster Hunter games, has to do with hitstop — or, in this case, the lack of. Hitstop in action games pauses an attack animation on hit for dramatic effect, usually to emphasize the weight of an attack landing. Accompanied by various visual and sound effects, hitstop helps to give attacks a sense of power, as opposed to waving around a...
Given its interesting body-swapping system, gnarly blood-based weaponry, creepy Lovecraftian monsters, and the fact that it’s sprung forth from the mind behind the original Silent Hill, Slitterhead certainly sounds like an action-horror game that could be razor sharp. Unfortunately, while this time-looping murder mystery set in the neon lit streets of a fictionalized Hong Kong serves up a solid slash ‘em up combat system, its story has been hacked to the bone, its enemy variety is surprisingly sparse, and its uninspired mission objectives are repeated to a truly tiresome degree. As it turns out, Slitterhead isn’t just an adventure that’s frequently out-of-body, it’s also one that’s quickly out of ideas. It’s a real shame too, since...
BioWare currently has no plans for downloadable Dragon Age: The Veilguard expansions, seemingly scuttling any hopes for DLC on the order of fan-favorite releases like Trespasser or Awakening. Instead, Rolling Stone reports that BioWare's "full attention has shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect" now that Dragon Age is officially out in the wild. While BioWare didn't offer any follow-up details in Rolling Stone's report, IGN understands that the studio plans to support The Veilguard with quality-of-life improvements and a handful of smaller content updates. We have reached out to EA for more details. BioWare's decision not to release a DLC expansion may come as a surprise given its history with Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Baldur's...
Fortnite announced today that it is rolling out a new OG Battle Royale season, called Chapter 2 Remix, in partnership with Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice, Eminem, and, posthumously, Juice WLRD. In each week of November, Fortnite will have a waterfall rollout of new map locations "revamped" by the artists, culminating in a finale event. Week 1 will have Snoop Dogg's touch, remixing the point of interest formerly known as The Agency as The Dogg Pound. It will also bring back the boogie bomb that triggers "Drop It Like It's Hot." Week 2 will reveal Eminem's takeover of The Grotto as Spaghetti Grotto (a play on his Mom's Spaghetti restaurant in Detroit) with a "Rap God" machine gun that spits out lyrics to the 2013 song. Week 3 drops Ice...
Capcom officially unleashed the Monster Hunter Wilds beta test for everyone on Thursday, and some players are finding that its creatures are a bit…flat. The Monster Hunter series is known for many things, but its history of delivering creative, detailed monsters is easily one of its biggest draws. While the franchise’s next major entry, Wilds, will surely be no different when it launches early next year, those who hopped into its pre-release beta yesterday are finding that its monsters don’t look quite as they expected. Specifically, many creatures currently sport low-poly models that make them look like they just hopped straight of a PS1 game. It's unclear what exactly is causing these low-poly monsters to infest the Monster Hunter...
Welcome to Streaming Rewind, a weekly breakdown of the new and noteworthy as we work to help readers wade through the absolute deluge of television series and movies in the streaming space. Is this weekend Halloween? Is it pre-Christmas? Begun, the holiday wars have… but both sides can agree that they’re superior to Thanksgiving, so at least we know that there are still things that can bring us together in these trying times. Unfortunately, the holiday limbo comes with a bit of a streaming and digital release limbo too. It’s a pretty slow week for new releases. Like, Joker: Folie a Deux is available on digital this week, but we all know to wait until that bad boy is free at this point. Agatha All Along Takes Its Final Bow Disney+’s...
Treyarch and Raven Software have published a small update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that fixes a number of issues across its Multiplayer and Zombies modes. Activision posted the patch notes on its website today, bringing a list of changes ahead of Season 1’s launch later this month. This is the third patch to arrive since last weekend’s release and adds a host of tweaks and fixes for glitches big and small. Although the update largely focuses on Multiplayer and Zombies, it also includes a trio of universal touch-ups, including the removal of that pesky black screen glitch that has bothered players when trying to load into a match. Black Ops 6 Multiplayer adjustments include the removal of Lowtown from the Infected map pool while...
Today, in a sort of buried, sly wink kind of way, Rockstar Games announced it would finally bring PS5 and Xbox Series console features to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto Online sometime next year. Hidden at the bottom of a GTA Online community update today, Rockstar said the following: "There is much more still to come, including ongoing weekly special events and bonuses, festive celebrations, gifts, surprises, as well as plans to bring the much-requested PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S features of GTA Online to the PC platform in the new year. Please stay tuned to the Rockstar Games Newswire for details." What this refers to are the features contained exclusively in the enhanced release of GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series...
