Along with the bundled microphone that had us yelling at our TV like maniacs, noughties-era-me was also impressed with a dynamic day-night cycle that strategically transformed entire boards every three turns. Randy Pitchford has responded to complaints about the console version of Borderlands 4 lacking a field of view (FOV) slider, suggesting fairness may have something to do with it. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S players of Borderlands 4 were shocked to discover not only a lack of a FOV slider in-game, but no motion blur toggle, either. The PC version of Borderlands 4 has settings for both — in the case of FOV you can increase the value in degrees up to 110 for both first-person play and vehicle use, and for motion blur you can change the amount and the quality. The lack of a FOV slider is the biggest issue right now with Borderlands 4 on console, if anecdotal evidence across the internet is anything to go by, with some...

Gearbox development chief Randy Pitchford says it’s impossible to break the Borderlands 4 servers this weekend through sheer weight of player numbers alone — and he’s so confident he’s publicly promised that Borderlands 4 won’t join the long list of big AAA games whose online systems fail at launch. Borderlands 4 launched earlier this week and immediately saw a concurrent player count on Steam bigger than all the other prior Borderlands games. At the time of this article’s publication, Borderlands 4 had seen an impressive peak of 252,530 players on Valve’s platform, with the peak weekend playing time to come. For context, Borderlands 2 set a Steam peak concurrent player count of 124,678 13 years ago, with Borderlands 3 hitting a peak...
With just two games, the Nioh series has already cemented its place among the best of the soulslike genre, thanks to its uniquely fast-paced action, deeply customizable builds and playstyles, thrilling boss battles, and a certain fluidity to its combat that feels like Team Ninja’s own signature touch. Based on my five hours of hands-on time with a new preview build, the upcoming third installment is shaping up to continue that trend of excellence, staying true to the core of what has always made the series so successful, but shaking up just enough to challenge veteran players to rethink how they approach its many difficult combat encounters. Much like Nioh 2, Nioh 3 is shaping up to be an iterative sequel that doesn’t change much about...

Square Enix’s port will bring Final Fantasy 7 Remake to more platforms nearly six years after its original launch on PlayStation 4 in 2020 and a little less than five years since its Intergrade upgrade launched for PlayStation 5. However, players on Switch 2 and Xbox take...

Spike Chunsoft announced a remaster for its 2012 visual novel sequel during today’s September 2025 Nintendo Direct. A trailer for the upgraded re-release reintroduces players to fan-favorite Hope’s Peak Academy students such as Gundham Tanaka, Nagito Komaeda, and Mahiru Koizumi, as Monokuma traps them in yet another twisted killing game. Spike Chunsoft says it will include a “freshly revamped” version of the original story scenario featured in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye...

Battlefield 6 feels like a make-or-break moment for BF Studios. The four-studio team that makes up the Battlefield-focused group (Ripple Effect, DICE, Criterion Games, and Motive Studio) has spent the duration of the project’s development working to ensure next month’s launch goes off without a hitch. It’s a years-long effort to dodge the notoriously troubled releases the franchise is known for without repeating past mistakes — or creating new ones. We sat down with technical director Christian Buhl and senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson earlier this week to learn more about how BF Studios worked to shock life back into the classic EA shooter series with Battlefield 6. Our conversation touched on how Ripple Effect helped...
Battlefield 6 developer Ripple Effect hasn’t been the least bit surprised by the steady flow of leaks it has suffered throughout 2025. Leaked gameplay footage, details, and more from EA’s ongoing closed playtest program known as Battlefield Labs have poured onto the internet throughout the last few months of development on this year’s new Battlefield game. It’s resulted in an unorthodox lead-up to what has been propped up as a particularly important entry in a long-running FPS franchise, leading to confusion from fans as they watched everything from gameplay reveals to game modes leak online. We asked technical director Christian Buhl and senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson about their approach to Battlefield 6 leaks...
The developers behind Battlefield 6 are encouraging players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S to keep crossplay on, even if they “can’t promise that there will be zero cheaters” on PC. Ripple Effect technical director Christian Buhl and senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson talked about the ever-present threat of cheaters in Battlefield during a recent interview with IGN. During our chat, we learned about how the team is supporting console players with everything from crossplay to performance and fidelity modes. We also learned about how the studio has implemented anti-cheat measures for next month’s Battlefield sequel. The conversation saw Buhl acknowledge that, while it will be hard to guarantee a cheat-free...
Capcom made a surprise appearance during today’s September 2025 Nintendo Direct to announce that Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Resident Evil Village are coming to Nintendo Switch 2. The latest mainline trio in the Resident Evil series showed up for the Direct with a Switch 2 release date of February 27, 2026, for all three titles. While Biohazard and Village have been in players’ hands for years, today’s trailer also came with a fresh look at gameplay for Requiem, which is also set to launch for other platforms the same day. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 8: Village, and Resident Evil 9: Requiem come to Switch 2 early next year. While we wait for any sign of Leon S. Kennedy, you can check out...
Hades 2 is a timed console exclusive on Switch 1 and 2, Nintendo has announced, with a release date set for September 25, 2025. As revealed during Nintendo Direct September 2025, Hades 2 runs at 120 frames per second in TV mode on Switch 2. Supergiant's action game is already available in early access form on PC. The developer said Hades 2 v1.0 launches September 25, which means it leaves early access on PC then, too. There's no word on a PlayStation or Xbox release date. "Play in blazing-fast 120fps in TV Mode on Nintendo Switch 2, or 60fps on Nintendo Switch (w/ free upgrade to Switch 2)," the developer said. You can transfer PC progress from Steam or Epic with Cross Saves. Here's the official blurb, from Nintendo: For more...
Gearbox has issued a statement in response to claims Borderlands 4 uses spyware, amid renewed concern over parent company Take-Two's terms of service. After a similar furore bubbled up in June, the company reiterated that while it understands there have been "some concerns" about Take-Two’s terms of service, it stressed that "maintaining transparency and confidence with the community here is always our goal, and we wanted to address some of these concerns." "Take-Two does not use spyware in its games," the statement began. "Take-Two’s Privacy Policy applies to all labels, studios, games, and services across all media and platform types such as console, PC, mobile app, and website. The Privacy Policy identifies the data activities that...
At this point in 2025, to say that there are more than a few survival titles on the market is an understatement. However, while the feeling of genre fatigue may either be setting in or has set in entirely, developer Treehouse Games is looking to melt away that lethargy with its debut title, Voyagers of Nera. Armed with an eye-popping visual veneer, a road-trip-like approach to player cooperation and a fresh take on building mechanics, here’s why Voyagers of Nera is shaping up to be the most enchanting survival adventure to come along in a good while. An Oceanbound Survival Adventure Like No Other Voyagers of Nera envisions a mystical world where vast oceans cover almost all of the surface and where all manner of secrets lurk both...
Hollow Knight Silksong’s first major patch is rolling out now to most players, developer Team Cherry has confirmed. Silksong update 1.0.28497 — the one that makes the early game easier — is now live on PC via Steam and GOG, and is due out on Xbox and Switch platforms “very soon.” There’s a bit of a holdup on PlayStation, however, where Team Cherry expects the same patch within 48 hours “barring unforeseen circumstances.” Team Cherry published the patch notes, below, in full on its website. Hollow Knight Silksong update 1.0.28497 patch notes: Fixed situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence. Back in July, Valve shocked gamers by suddenly removing numerous adult-only games from Steam to appease payment processors. Not long after, itch.io made a similar move in delisting thousands of NSFW games from its search results. Japanese politician Zenko Kurishita recently spoke out about the dangers of this abrupt censorship. Although Steam and itch.io’s recent issues have brought awareness of payment processors’ sudden and vague crackdowns on adult content to a wider, international audience, Japanese sites have been dealing with these problems since 2022. In recent years, demands from payment processors have disrupted services like NicoNico (Japan’s YouTube), fanart platforms like DLsite and Fantia, and online manga/anime store...
Slay the Spire 2 has been delayed to March 2026. Developer Megacrit said the decision to push back the release from late 2025 came "after a lot of internal discussion," and while it appreciates "this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear," the development team needs more time. "There's no single dramatic reason. Some personal life stuff hit the team (everyone's okay!), we kept saying 'wouldn't it be cool if…' one too many times, and honestly, the game just needs more polish to meet our standards," the team admitted. "We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear (ourselves included, we're dying to get this into your hands!) Originally, we were shooting for late 2025, but turns out we were wrong. We need some more time." The delay...
Borderlands 4 has launched on Steam to big concurrent player numbers, but the release was marred by complaints about PC performance that have resulted in a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Valve’s platform. Borderlands 4 peaked at 207,479 concurrent player numbers on Steam yesterday, September 11, which was significantly higher than any previous Borderlands before it. However, the game launched to ‘mostly negative’ Steam reviews over performance issues and crashing, before recovering overnight to ‘mixed.’ The complaints revolve around poor performance even on high powered PCs, with some affected by crashing that makes the game difficult to even start. “Terrible optimization. Another Unreal Engine 5 casualty. Not worth buying in its...
Some sales make you stop mid-scroll and mutter, "Well, there goes my weekend." This is one of those hauls, my friends. Between anime smackdowns, sprawling RPGs, and the launching of Borderlands 4, I feel like my cart is about to burst. Let's tour the platforms together and pick out the real gems before the discounts vanish. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I’m celebrating the 22nd birthday of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I can recall coming to this straight from a blast though Jedi Outcast and not being enthused with what met me… at all. An olden days setting with no Jedi I know? Meh. Turn-based combat? Blech. And, then, I slowly, magically fell completely in love with...
Borderlands 4 is out now on PC ahead of its global release across all platforms, and on Steam it’s already shooting up the most-played games chart with a concurrent player count bigger than all other Borderlands games. At the time of this article’s publication, Gearbox's looter shooter had over 148,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it the sixth most-played game on Valve’s platform. For context, Borderlands 2 set a Steam peak concurrent player count of 124,678 13 years ago, with Borderlands 3 hitting a peak of 93,820 five-and-a-half years ago, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel reaching 68,238 10 years ago. Borderlands Game of the Year Edition has a peak of 23,655. So, all signs point to a huge launch for Borderlands 4. Check out...
From the spark lit by 1985’s Super Mario Bros., which redefined an entire genre, to the groundbreaking 3D leap of Super Mario 64, Nintendo’s flagship series has long held a level of quality and cultural affection other franchises could only envy. Now, with the 40th anniversary of gaming’s most beloved moustachioed plumber upon us, there’s no better time to revisit three defining milestones of this butt-bopping, mushroom-munching (not that kind), high-pitched handyman whose adventures shaped not just a brand but an entire medium. Super Mario Bros (NES) – 1985 This is where it all began. Arguably representing the first truly successful console-selling game, Super Mario Bros. simultaneously granted Nintendo a mascot that would endure for...
Epic Games has announced it will add Exact Amount purchasing to Fortnite, Rocket League and Fall Guys next month, meaning that players soon won't need to top-up their wallets with any more in-game currency than they need. Offering in-game credit in set amounts is a common practice within many video games, with microtransactions often requiring players purchase a bigger dollop of currency than is actually required to purchase a particular item. As of October 14, however, Epic Games' titles will let players choose the exact amount of currency they require on PC, Nintendo and Xbox consoles, Android devices, iPhones and iPads, as well as via the Fortnite web shop. One conspicuous absentee here is PlayStation — and while Epic does not...

There's less than 24 hours to go until a major Nintendo Direct, but there's something very different this time. Yes, Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally been released — leaving fans searching for a fresh game to pin all their hopes and inevitable disappointment on. With a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date seeming fairly assured, fans are suggesting some of Nintendo's second-tier series to hope for next. This includes Star Fox (missing in action since 2017's Star Fox 2), Golden Sun (sunset in 2010) and F-Zero (which has only seen the bitesize release of F-Zero 99 since 2004). And what about Mother 3? Of course, tomorrow's Nintendo Direct will likely feature non-Nintendo games too. Is it time to hope for news on Beyond Good & Evil 2...

The developers of Hellraiser: Revival intend to push its M Rating as far as it can with the upcoming video game adaptation. Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a story-driven, single-player survival horror action game set in the Hellraiser universe. It's developed by Boss Team Games, creator of the recently delisted Evil Dead: The Game, and is due out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam. Hellraiser, for the uninitiated, is a cult classic horror franchise made up of 11 films and various comic books, all based on The Hellbound Heart novella by English author Clive Barker. The star of the show is Pinhead, a ‘Cenobite’ who harvests human souls to torture in sadistic experiments. And you can see that in action in the...
