It's been a week where my willpower evaporated faster than dog water out in this crazy hot October heat. Between a stack of heavy hitters and cult faves going for pocket change, your cart may just fill itself before your smoko coffee can get gulped. I’ve played (and replayed) most of these gems, so trust me when I say this is a line-up worth smashing the buy button for. Contents Retro Nintendo Xbox PlayStation PC LEGO This Day in Gaming 🎂 In retro news, I'm celebrating the 22nd bday of the mouthful that is Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. I remember this as arguably the best version of SMB3, with a proto-QR code mechanic that used a link cable to connect a second GBA with an e-Reader. Then, using one of 40+ specially...
Do you remember the worst day of your life? It’s okay; you don’t have to answer. I do. I was doing something I loved, I made a mistake, and a story someone else told about it for their own purposes cost me almost everything I had. People I thought were my friends walked out of my life, doors slammed shut in my face, and everything I’d worked for evaporated. My family resorted to communication by postcard because I refused to answer the phone, and I spent the next two years contemplating suicide before finally finding some semblence of peace. Nearly a decade later, those moments, that mistake – such a little thing, really – impacts every aspect of my life. I spend a lot of time grappling with that, wondering if I’ll ever be the person I...

With its unsettling backdrops and detailed worldbuilding, Tormented Souls 2 may look like a contemporary horror game, but don't let that modern dressing fool you. At its core beats the blackened heart of stone-cold classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, with all the treats — and tricks — that both endeared me to and enraged me about these formulaic survival horror games when they first gained popularity. Fixed camera angles? Check. Tank controls? Check. Insanely complex puzzles and an even more bizarre story, complete with cheesy dialogue and a manual save system? Check, check, check, and check. It makes Tormented Souls 2 a surprisingly faithful homage, bringing back all the stuff I loved about old survival horror games… as well...
Bethesda has announced native versions of Fallout 76 are coming to Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5 early 2026. The announcement came as part of Bethesda's Fallout Day broadcast, which also brought news that “optimizations” are coming for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, too. Bethesda didn't reveal any more info on what these new versions of Fallout 76 actually do. However, Bethesda did use Fallout Day to show more of Fallout 76’s Burning Springs update, which is due out December 2, 2025. This is the big update that expands the map to include a brand-new arid region in Ohio, where players will encounter the raider-like supermutant Rust King, battle desert Deathclaws, and join up with friends in two new public events. But the...
Bethesda has used Fallout Day to announce the Fallout: New Vegas 15th Anniversary Bundle, which celebrates Obsidian’s much-loved post-apocalyptic role-playing game turning 15 years old. This edition will be available for pre-order on October 23 via the Bethesda Gear Store, and includes: Fallout: New Vegas: Ultimate Edition PC Code Victor Statue (8" PVC): The friendly Securitron stands tall and is ready to roll Doc Mitchell’s Evaluation Cards (8x8 cardstock set): Straight from your first moments in Goodsprings, a true piece of New Vegas history Vault Boy Enamel Pin (1.5"): Vault Boy stacks the odds with poker chips in hand Mojave Express Patch (3.5" × 1.9"): Woven, iron-on, and full of wasteland charm NCR Recon Patch (3.25" × 3.5")...
As part of its Fallout Day broadcast, Bethesda announced Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, due out across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on November 10, 2025, and on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. It’s the first time Fallout 4 will be available on a Nintendo console. Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition — designed to coincide with the post-apocalyptic role-playing game’s 10th anniversary — contains the six official add-ons and over 150 pieces of Creation Club content. Creations (user created content) arrive in Fallout 4 via a brand new in-game Creations menu, which will make it easy for players to find and download the new content on PC and console. The six official expansions included are the Far Harbor, Automatron, and Nuka-World story add-ons, and...
Fallout Day 2025 has come to an end without the announcement of any new Fallout video games. Yes, there’s a new version of Fallout 4, a new Fallout: New Vegas bundle, and new content for Fallout Shelter and Fallout 76. But there was no word on any Fallout remasters, which some had hoped for, or — less likely — Fallout 5. At the end of the Fallout Day broadcast, Bethesda design chief Todd Howard acknowledged that Fallout fans were probably left a little disappointed by this, and promised that the developer is working on “even more” Fallout. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess, but Howard did say Bethesda is looking forward to showing fans what it’s cooking. Here’s the quote from Todd Howard: Ahead of Fallout Day, Hollywood...

Gearbox has released the big Borderlands 4 Day 30 patch, which makes a number of key balance changes to the game. This update, released October 23, includes widespread stability improvements, multiplayer fixes, UI polish, and a suite of quality-of-life upgrades across visuals, audio, and accessibility. It also addresses various reported issues for Vault Hunters including major balance tuning, loot systems, gear, and achievements — further refining late-game, mission flow, and overall player experience. “We will monitor the community closely for feedback and respond after the changes have settled,” Gearbox said. “This measured approach to your input will provide a consistent and better experience. As a reminder, our primary goal with...
Bethesda Softworks will soon kick off its Fallout Day 2025 livestream, and we’re here to share every new announcement and detail it has to offer. With no new mainline Fallout game in sight and fans – including celebrity and Fallout alum Danny Trejo – always asking for more Fallout: New Vegas news, we do have some idea of what Bethesda will show. Yesterday, the studio teased updates for the 10-year-old Fallout 4, as well as its ongoing Fallout 76, for example, while also promising to share news related to Fallout Shelter. Fans can also expect to catch a glimpse at new merch, upcoming events, and more. Although it’s unclear when the next Fallout game will arrive, fans of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic role-playing game series already have...
Some Battlefield 6 players are up in arms after first information about Season 1 revealed what they believe is an out of place soldier skin. Fans have waited weeks for a first look at Season 1 and its new maps, modes, and guns. However, after EA and Battlefield Studios finally pulled back the curtain with a trailer yesterday, the only thing on the community’s mind was a question: could this be the beginning of the end? New Battlefield 6 maps like Blackwell Fields and Eastwood certainly served as meaningful attention grabbers, but it’s just one skin that has completely controlled the conversation. The cosmetic in question is Wicked Grin, a new skin for the Assault Class. A sneak peek at the suit arrived via various Battlefield 6 Season...
A new report has shed light on the goings on at Microsoft, which has allegedly pushed Xbox studios to deliver a 30% profit margin — much higher than the industry average. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Microsoft’s 30% profit margin goal had led to the gaming division’s huge layoffs, canceled projects, controversial price rises, and multiplatform push. The cuts to Xbox have been deep. Thousands of staff have lost their jobs over several rounds of layoffs. Games such as Rare’s Everwild and The Initiative’s Perfect Dark reboot were canceled after years of development. ZeniMax Online Studios game Project Blackbird was canned, leading to mass layoffs. The Initiative was also shut down. Last year, Microsoft closed Redfall...
If Star Trek is the optimistic dream of what humanity could become, The Outer Worlds 2 is the nihilistic nightmare of what it will probably be. Thankfully, both make for highly entertaining material to explore, and this second run through Obsidian’s corporate dystopia is a significant step up from the original. With a story that’s more grounded and interesting, significantly more competent combat, and an irresistible RPG grind, I had a blast putting my fist through the kafkaesque final frontier alongside a cast of memorable companions, even when a weak first act and some truly terrible enemy variety made the going less exciting. Across the more than 65 hours my completionist playthrough took, I fought with myself over moral dilemmas...
With Fallout Day upon us and rumors swirling around remakes, remasters, and even new games in the famous post-apocalyptic role-playing series, one Hollywood star has made his thoughts crystal clear. That star is Danny Trejo, whose appearances in the likes of From Dusk till Dawn, Con Air, and Spy Kids made him a cult figure. But he’s intimately familiar with Fallout, too, having played Raul Alfonso Tejada, a Ghoul companion, in the much-loved Fallout: New Vegas. So it stands to reason that Trejo would, like so many fans, love to see Fallout: New Vegas return in some fashion. Responding to Bethesda’s official Instagram post on what to expect from Fallout Day, Trejo said: “Remaster New Vegas boss!” alongside a fire emoji. Trejo has 3.1...
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has released the Into the Unjust: 4.1.0 update, which it said is designed to make the game “feel better to play.” This much anticipated update overhauls how Arrowhead approaches patching “to better target the pain points you’ve shared with us.” The studio said that means “more focus on stability, balance, and the issues that affect your experience the most.” Over 200 bugs have been fixed, along with key balance updates and quality-of-life improvements. Arrowhead said that while new features are coming, this patch marks “a big step forward: both in the game itself and in how we work to improve it.” More refinements are already underway, the studio continued. In terms of balance, the overall...
Anker quietly released a new 25,000mAh power bank earlier this year that sits alongside their Anker 737 and Prime series of power banks. This particular model boasts a massive 25,000mAh battery capacity, 165W of total charging output, and two built-in USB Type-C cables in case you forget to bring your own. It normally retails for $135, but there's a deal today that drops the price to $91.99. This is a great complement to your power-hungry gaming handheld PC like the Steam Deck, Xbox Ally X, or Lenovo Legion Go. In fact, it can also charge non-gaming laptops including most new MacBooks. Note that the 165W spec is a bit misleading. Although the Anker power bank can indeed deliver up to 165W of total power output, an individual USB Type-C...
Borderlands 4 looks like a big hit in the U.S. at least, where it has outperformed Borderlands 3 in terms of money made. U.S. video game data company Circana said Gearbox’s looter shooter was the best-selling premium video game of September, debuting as the third best-selling game of 2025 so far. It was September’s best-seller on both the Xbox and aggregated PC storefront charts. Most importantly for publisher 2K Games, Borderlands 4 generated the highest launch month dollar sales of any title in the franchise’s history, nearly 30% higher than the previous best, Borderlands 3. It’s worth noting this stat isn’t about unit sales, rather revenue generated. Borderlands 4 launched at $69.99 (eventually, after a weird kerfuffle online...
Only the first two episodes of Dispatch's eventual eight have been released so far, but it's safe to say I’m already quite invested in this unique narrative adventure, which feels like a spiritual successor to the Telltale Games of the 2010s. Half TV show, half puzzle game, this superpowered workplace comedy quickly captured my attention with its cavalcade of oddball characters, engaging minigames, and giggle-inducing dialogue. It’s too early to say where the story will lead across the next three weeks of its episodic release schedule (and we'll have a final, scored review at the end), but the threads AdHoc Studio are pulling on are immediately compelling, and I’m cautiously optimistic. Dispatch takes place in an alternative take on...
Bethesda has outlined what it has planned for this week’s Fallout Day broadcast. In a social media post, Bethesda said the broadcast, set for 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm UK tomorrow, October 23, will feature more on Fallout 76, Fallout Shelter, Fallout 4, and more. Specifically on Fallout 76, Bethesda will show more of the Burning Springs update. This big expansion, due out in December, sees Walton Goggins reprise his fan-favorite role as The Ghoul from the Fallout TV show. Fallout Shelter is also mentioned, as is Fallout 4 and Creations, which suggests the decade old role-playing game will get some new content soon. Creations are community created mods released officially for Bethesda’s video games. Elsewhere, there are new merch...
The first Battlefield 6 Season 1 trailer is here, revealing a first look at the new Blackwell Fields and Eastwood maps, new weapons, and more. EA and Battlefield Studios published the debut trailer for the Season 1 update ahead of its launch next week, October 28. The two-minute video shows off glimpse of the team’s plans to keep Battlefield 6 content flowing following its strong October 10 launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. "Blackwell Fields spans besieged facilities and homesteads under a burning horizon, supporting all combat sizes with land and air," an official description for the new Battlefield 6 Season 1 maps says. "Eastwood turns a quiet villa and golf retreat into a frontline, with land vehicles and...
Call it the sentiment of an aging millennial, but I can't help but feel somewhat comforted while playing Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted. It not only updates the original's stellar blend of approachable tower-defense and puzzle gameplay, but it's also a reminder of how quirky and endearing games were in the late 2000s. Developer PopCap Games returns to give this classic another well-deserved moment in the sun, adding new content, quality-of-life improvements, and features from other ports to create a more complete package. That said, Replanted struggles to balance its updates with its attempts to preserve the look of the original. In doing so, it presents an uneven remaster that is the most complete version of Plants vs. Zombies ever...
Miraculously meditative and frantic in equal measure, Once Upon A Katamari scratches the same carnal itch that the rest of the series always has. It delivers relentless charm, a wheeze-laugh-inducing sense of humor, brain chemistry-altering music, and soulfully satisfying-but-simple gameplay in psychedelic technicolor. This time-trotting adventure rolls out the red carpet for The Prince, The King of All Cosmos, The Queen, and their cadre of silly little cousins with flamboyant aplomb. And with more levels and a greater focus on replayability, there’s more Katamari to go around than ever before. The first new mainline Katamari game in 14 years doesn’t try to reinvent the misshapen mass of things you roll around, and that’s fine by me...
Microsoft has announced Wave 2 of its Xbox Game Pass October 2025 lineup, fleshing out the rest of this month’s titles. It’s worth noting today’s announcement on Xbox Wire follows Microsoft’s Game Pass price hike and rebranding of some tiers. So, we’re now talking about what’s on Game Pass Premium and Essential, rather than Standard and Core. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass keep their names. Xbox Game Pass Tier and Price Changes, October 2025: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: $29.99 a month, up from $19.99 a month Xbox Game Pass Premium: $14.99 a month, the same as the old Standard subscription Xbox Game Pass Essential: $9.99 a month, the same as the old Core subscription PC Game Pass: $16.49 a month, up from $11.99 So, available...
Do you have time to talk about my lord and saviour, PowerWash Simulator? The unexpected cult hit hooked weirdos like me back in 2022 with its relaxing, satisfying premise; clean dirt off things. Has the sequel, PowerWash Simulator 2, changed the fundamental act of power washing? Has it given new meaning to slowly blasting graffiti off a wall? Will it make you question what it truly means to be filthy in 2025? No. And thank Mr. Clean for that, because it's the simplicity that makes it so satisfying. What you do get is what fans like me - I've got over 400 hours logged in the original - really needed; some quality of life upgrades and lots of new things to wash. I can see myself racking up another 400 hours on this installment easily. In...
Despite the title, there’s no shade being thrown at people who still have time for MMOs. We’ve all lost a few hundred hours to a game at some point, and for those of us now juggling work, kids, and everyday chaos, the idea of doing that again almost sounds like a dream. But wanting the time and actually having it are two very different things — and that’s where Fellowship comes in. Fellowship has just launched in Early Access, and while it looks, feels, and probably even smells like an MMO, it technically isn’t one. Instead, it’s a dungeon-crawling adventure dressed up with all the familiar trappings of something like World of Warcraft, but with tighter, more focused gameplay that makes it far more approachable. You can choose from...
Hello Games has released yet another No Man’s Sky update, this time adding space wrecks to explore. The patch notes, courtesy of the No Man's Sky website, are below. Just over a month after the Voyagers update released for the long-running space game, and the highest player numbers since launch over nine years ago, the Breach update lets players salvage wrecks, unlocking new ship building parts along the way. Hello Games has also improved and expanded ship building “in response to watching players spend so much time in the workshop designing their dream ships,” Hello Games chief Sean Murray said. There’s also a new expedition where players will traverse a desolate and abandoned universe to discover what happened to a mysterious...
We may be living in a golden age of gaming, with new releases and next-gen consoles pushing the industry forward — but that doesn’t mean every great series has survived the journey. Over the years, countless beloved game franchises have faded into obscurity, even though fans are still eager for their return. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some forgotten gaming franchises that truly deserve a comeback. Brothers In Arms Much closer to the emotional and intimate spectacle of HBO’s practically perfect Band of Brothers television show, which chronicled the real-life escapades of Easy Company as they battled their way across World War II Europe, the Brothers In Arms series has been missing in action since 2008’s Brothers In Arms...
Former Bethesda developer Bruce Nesmith has offered his thoughts on the divisive Starfield, insisting if it has been released by any other studio “it would have been received differently.” Speaking to FRVR, the former Starfield systems designer admitted that the sci-fi RPG is “not in the same calibre” as Bethesda’s much-loved The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, but insisted it was still “a great game.” “I think it’s a good game,” Nesmith, who left Bethesda around a year before Starfield came out, said. “I don’t think it’s in the same calibre as the other two, you know, Fallout or Skyrim, or Elder Scrolls rather, but I think it’s a good game. I worked on it, I’m proud of the work I did. I’m proud of the work that the people I...
Palworld developer and publisher Pocketpair has confirmed it will not be publishing any games that feature NFTs, Web3, or "big AI stuff," revealing the company "doesn't believe" in them. In an interview with Game Developer, John “Bucky” Buckley, communications director and publishing manager for Pocketpair said: "People are going to say I'm lying, but these are just the hard facts. We don't believe in it. We're very upfront about it. If you're big on AI stuff or your game is Web3 or uses NFTs, there are lots of publishers out there [who'll talk to you], but we're not the right partner for that." "I think over the next two or three years we're going to get into this weird era — and you can see it slowly happening now on Steam — of...
