Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Adds a New Ending to the Base Game

Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion adds a whole new ending to the base game when it launches this September.

Game director Gabe Amatangelo told WCCFTech that, while Phantom Liberty itself has multiple endings and narrative paths to choose from, making certain decisions within it can unlock a sixth mainline ending in Cyberpunk 2077.

It has "different endings based on how things play out", Amatangelo said. "Then, based on the ending within Phantom Liberty, you can unlock a new ending in the base game." This ending "has to do with your new relationships and characters and situations".

Amatangelo added to this in an interview with IGN as part of Summer of Gaming. "As the trailer shows, Songbird brings you in with the promise of being able to handle your issue with the relic," he said.

"It will affect outcomes in the base game [and] the story of Phantom Liberty within itself has multiple different variations of endings."

Spoiler Warning: The following paragraphs feature spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077.

Songbird is the personal netrunner for the president of the New United States, meaning "the promise of being able to handle your issue with the relic" has some gravitas behind it.

Those who've completed one or all of Cyberpunk 2077's current endings will know none are particularly happy, as protagonist V never finds a perfect solution to remove the relic (and Johnny Silverhand) from his / her head without killing one or both of them.

Having the president on side to help with that will perhaps give fans a little bit of hope that V can come out the other side of Cyberpunk 2077 in a much better place.

CD Projekt Red has revealed tons about Phantom Liberty over the Summer of Gaming so far, including its September 26 release date, the inclusion of vehicular combat, a sneaky reference to the Witcher, and more.
