Cyberpunk 2077's Idris Elba-starring expansion Phantom Liberty has sold 4.3 million copies since it launched, developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed.
Revealed during its latest earnings report, the developer confirmed the expansion, which launched September 26 to high critical acclaim and three million sales within its first week, has continued to perform for the company.
"According to our estimates, after last weekend total sales of the expansion topped 4.3 million copies," said chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz in a video. "This means that every fifth person who owns a copy of the base game for the PC or next-gen consoles has also purchased the expansion."
These numbers also come ahead of the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition going on sale on December 5, which comes with Phantom Liberty packaged in the box and will therefore likely boost its sales further.
Though CD Projekt Red didn't get as specific here, it also revealed a breakdown of platform sales in October 2023 alongside the three million units figure. 68% of copies were sold on PC, 20% were sold on PlayStation 5, and 13% were sold on Xbox Series X and S. The developer also shared the one and only expansion cost approximately 275 million Polish Zloty (around $62.7 million) to develop and approximately 95 million Polish Zloty (around $21.6 million) to market.
Ahead of Phantom Liberty's arrival in September, Update 2.0 laid the foundation for the new Cyberpunk 2077 experience. It completely revamped the game with features such as a new perk system and improved AI and also brought closure to an Elon Musk fan theory, a reference to the late racing legend Ken Block, and bizarre additions to the game's biggest mystery.
Bizarrely, CD Projekt even included a way for players to turn down the events of the paid expansion altogether, with certain dialogue options locking the missions away for good.
