There are 10 unique Holiday-themed rewards to collect in total, which can be unlocked by jumping into Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer and completing a match of Arena or Big Team Battle. The daily treats include festive "Peppermint Laughter" coatings for your armor...
2021 was a little bit… different. Wait, is that what I mean, “different?” Largely horrible. Actually, come to think of it, so was 2020. Wait a minute, what if this isn’t different, and this is just how years are now?! Speaking of disturbing patterns, maybe that desire for escape from our own bleak reality into one familiar yet different enough is one of the factors that fueled the abundance of Multiverse stories in 2021. Did you notice that? The Multiverse as a concept was huge this past year, not just within the MCU, which is getting even more Multiverse-y next year, but in everything from gaming to Star Trek to DC to goddamn Phineas and f***ing Ferb. Okay, that actually happened in 2011, and I probably shouldn’t swear so much about...
Unless you're a hot-key wizard, odds are you're going to need a mouse or trackpad to get a lot of things done on your computer. Even if you have a keyboard shortcut for almost everything, there's still going to be plenty of times that a mouse would serve you better. And, let's not conflate a trackpad for a mouse, as in most cases it simply serves as the next best option. So, when it comes time to get some work done, browse the web, or hunker down for some gaming, you should make sure you've got a good mouse in your hand. In most cases, the best gaming mice could do the job, as they tend to be loaded with features that can be handy in any situation, and they have amazingly accurate sensors. But, sometimes a simpler, work-oriented mouse...

Assassin's Creed Valhalla may have released in 2020, but the original game continues to inspire a wealth new content. And not just video game expansions. IGN can exclusively reveal Assassin's Creed Valla: Forgotten Myths, Dark Horse's latest comic book spinoff. Forgotten Myths is a follow-up of sorts to Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory, a book which acted as a direct prequel to the main game. This story, however, is specifically a prequel to the upcoming DLC expansion Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, which thrusts main protagonist Eivor into the mythological realm of Svartalfheim to live out the exploits of the Norse gods. In short, this isn't your typical Assassin's Creed adventure. Here's Dark Horse's official...

2021 has spotlighted harassment on Twitch, particularly for women. Now a new clip from streamer Grenade Queen is drawing industry attention, with Xbox co-creator Seamus Blackley saying the harassment it depicts "wasn't the future for [Xbox Live] we envisioned." The video shows Grenade Queen being harassed as she is playing Halo Infinite, on which she comments, "No woman should have to deal with this if they're having 1 rough game against decent people... this was only part of it." Her comments drew numerous responses women who say they've suffered the same behavior. "My Xbox name is my irl name," one user wrote. "They see it and they immediately attack me. Just bc I'm a girl. I can never enjoy pvp. Even bot matches. My team mates...
I have a confession to make. I'm that guy. The lazy weirdo who secretly derives endorphins from madly rushing around to find presents for people at the last minute. The most anticipated of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster releases finally has a release date, though unfortunately for Final Fantasy fans, it won't be out until 2022. In a social media post, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster will be launching early next year. The release was pushed out of 2021 in order to apply additional polish. "In order to bring you the best experience possible, we're allowing the necessary time to apply final polish while finishing development on the game," the social media post says. The delay appears to be drawing lessons from the previous Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, which were generally well-received but nevertheless required several patches to deal with various bugs. This is on...
Square Enix has launched Patch 6.01 for Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker. The update contains content like new items and a new raid series, Pandemonium. But one aspect that the game's community has been mulling over is that the polygons of some of its grapes have been upgraded. Yes, you heard that right. In the Endwalker expansion, the grapes in the Labyrinthos area were graphically low-polygon. According to Square Enix's patch notes, the company referred to the grapes as "an issue" where the polygon count of grapes in Labyrinthos was reduced in excess to "alleviate system memory usage in the area." As such, the grapes have been adjusted to be comparable to those found at the Crystarium. This particular aspect has become a meme within the...
The release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition proved to be so maligned that Rockstar Games is now offering PC owners a free copy of one of its other games as a make-good. Eurogamer reports that Rockstar is giving PC owners of the GTA trilogy remaster one of the following games for free: Grand Theft Auto 5: Premium Edition Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition Max Payne 3 LA Noire Bully: Scholarship Edition You have until January 5, 2022, to claim one of the above games if you already own the GTA Trilogy Remaster on PC. You can redeem the offer here on the Rockstar Games shop, or accept an alternate offer of a Great White Shark card in GTA Online or 55 Gold Bars in Red Dead Online. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy...
At the end of C1, one of the many brutal missions currently available in GTFO, your expedition team will be trapped at the bottom of a long-forsaken botany lab. An orange circle appears on the floor, and everyone needs to stand in it at the same time to fill up a bar at the top of the screen. The circle lazily paths through the damp corridors and stairwells, and the party of four crams together in its borders, staring down iron sights, shooting at anything that moves. An absolute onslaught of horrific aberrations lays siege to your defenses as GTFO demonstrates just how mean it can be. I have watched my comrades crumble at the 98th percentile as a final wave proved too much for our dwindling ammunition. I have watched a friend get...
A wireless gaming headset is one of the most freeing accessories you can get for your gaming PC. Right next to a wireless gaming mouse, a wireless gaming headset will let you stay in the action of your favorite games while moving freely. You can lean in to get a closer look, recline in your seat to relax between games, or even walk into the other room to grab a drink – all through that, a good wireless gaming headset will keep you connected to the audio coming from your game – no cables getting snagged and yanking your headphones off. You don't need to worry about audio quality or performance here either. The best wireless gaming headsets rely primarily on high-bandwidth, 2.4GHz connections that can deliver full-quality audio with...
When it comes to tech, the major trends of 2021 were as much about what didn’t happen than what did. A year into the ninth generation of gaming consoles, the top story of the year is a chip shortage that’s continued to cause headaches and supply strains (with no sign of relief for at least another year). Even so, we’ve seen some exciting announcements and advancements that lay the groundwork for next year and beyond. Here are the biggest tech stories of 2021. The Chip Shortage If you have been trying to purchase any of the most popular gaming gadgets this year, you’re probably familiar with these two words: “semiconductor shortage.” Global supply chain problems stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic have limited the supply of the...
There are few more appealing game premises than slaying a series of giant monsters by climbing them like moving mountains to deal a death blow from above. And yet, there are also few more disappointing experiences than having that premise come up so woefully short as it has in Praey for the Gods. This giant-slaying adventure tries to capture the magic of the PlayStation classic Shadow of the Colossus, but misses the mark with sloppy controls, cheesy deaths, and bugs that manage to squander some otherwise solid boss encounters. The inspiration taken from Shadow of the Colossus isn’t hard to spot: in Praey for the Gods you’ll travel through a desolate open world, scale giant monsters, and probably be pretty confused by the story. Where...
Your processor may be at the heart of your computer, but in order to let your gaming PC truly run at its maximum potential, you need need to keep it properly cooled. As your processor works, it can start to get incredibly hot. Once it reaches a high enough temperature, it will dial back its performance levels to cool down. A good CPU cooler ensures your processor stays cooler for longer, so it can run at its fastest speeds as much as possible. That means programs and games that can benefit from your processor ramping up to its clock speeds for maximum performance. With a robust enough cooling solution, you can even keep running at those high speeds indefinitely or push your processor beyond its factory settings. Some can even keep...
At a time when many industries are suffering from waves of resignations as employees seek better pay and working conditions in the midst of a global pandemic, Ubisoft in particular appears to be dealing with unnaturally high turnover. According to a new report from Axios, Ubisoft has seen "massive departures" over the past 18 months, including both lower and mid-level employees as well as big names. Five of the top 25 credited people who worked on Far Cry 6 are gone, as well as 12 of the top 50 credited names from Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. Two current employees said that these departures are slowing or stalling projects. The departures are especially significant at Ubisoft's Canadian studios in Montreal and Toronto, with LinkedIn...
George R.R. Martin admits he isn't really a video games guy, but apparently when Hidetaka Miyazaki and his fellow game designers approached him to work on the worldbuilding for Elden Ring, he found their pitch "too exciting to refuse." "Miyazaki and his team from FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with gorgeous art, and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create," Martin wrote in a blog post over the weekend. "And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history." Despite not being into video games broadly, Martin also admitted he used to play a few: Railroad Tycoon, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and...
Psychonauts 2, Double Fine’s long-in-the-making sequel and one of the studio’s most critically-acclaimed games, was finally released this year. Now Double Fine is looking towards the future with multiple new projects in the works. “Psychonauts 2 has essentially wrapped up as a project although there will be tweaks and fixes as we move forward,” Double Fine says in a new blog. “The studio is already splitting up into various teams and starting different projects that we think you’ll enjoy.” Double Fine officially announced Psychonauts 2 back in 2015, years before Microsoft announced it acquired the studio in 2019. As a result, while Psychonauts 2 was released under the Xbox Game Studios banner, it began as an independent project...
Curved gaming monitors might seem like a gimmick compared to flat-screen displays that work plenty fine, but there are some real advantages to them. With a screen that wraps around your field of view, you can see more of the display at a glance and reducing the need to shift your focus to different parts of the screen. On top of reducing eye strain, a curved monitor creates a more immersive, distortion-free viewing experience. We completed hours of hands-on (or eyes-on) testing with a huge collection of curved gaming monitors, ranging in size from 27" up to a massive, (ultra-)ultrawide 49" model. Based on our testing and consideration of price, features, and performance, here are our picks for the best-curved gaming monitors – and...
Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal has admitted that she didn't initially like the suggestion of having Peter Parker join the MCU, and even "threw a sandwich" at Marvel's Kevin Feige over the idea. During an interview with The New York Times, the Spider-Man: No Way Home producer revealed that she had called Feige for help after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but ended up lobbing a sandwich at the Marvel boss after he suggested the best solution was to introduce Spidey to his MCU. “I called Kevin and said, ‘Help.’ And then he came over to my office for lunch and said, ‘I know how to help you.’ And then I threw a sandwich at him.” “She said ‘I really want you to help on this next movie. We have these great ideas for the next one...
Supergiant Games' Hades has made history as it has officially become the first video game to win a Hugo Award. The Hugo Awards were first presented in 1953 and honor the best works in science fiction and fantasy. Up until 2021, video games and their stories have not been under consideration, but that has now changed. While this is exciting, it's important to note that the "Best Video Game" category was a special category added only for 2021. However, the committee of WSFS Business Meeting has "been studying the possibility of adding such a category for several years now." Despite it being a special category, Hades' win is still treated the same as those in permanent categories. To win the prestigious award, Hades had to best Animal...
In another example of how bad the ongoing global chip shortage is, Microsoft couldn't even secure enough Xbox Series X consoles for Halo Infinite's first Halo Championship Series tournament and instead had to use a mix of retail and development consoles. Tahir Hasandjekic, the Halo esports and viewership lead at Microsoft/343 Industries, shared the news on Twitter, saying open bracket players would be playing on Xbox Series X development consoles. Fortunately, there is no need for these players or fans to worry as they are "functionally identical" to retail Xbox Series X hardware. "Heads up open bracket players - you'll be playing this weekend on Series X development consoles," Hasandjekic said. "They're functionally identical and...
While many were very excited when Final Fantasy 7 Remake finally arrived on PC after a year and a half from its original release date, it was quickly discovered that this port has some major problems that will hopefully be addressed in a future patch. As reported by PC Gamer, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Graphics Settings list on PC is surprisingly bare and offers "no variable framerate option, no way to tweak anti-aliasing, toggle VSync, or control effects like motion blur." There is also no way to control resolution scaling to help balance image quality and performance. Speaking of performance, there have also been reports of framerate drops and instability when simply moving the camera. Digital Foundry's John Linneman and Alexander...
Imagine an open world Sonic game, but Sonic has his own controllable personal gravity machine. Or imagine Marble Madness inside No Man’s Sky. Or think of Tiny Wings, but with found footage and a space tragedy. Somewhere in the middle of all these imaginings you might get an idea of Exo One, a beautiful, gravity-bending movement game about a tiny spacecraft trying to undo a terrible event. Exo One is a recent Xbox Game Pass launch title where you move a little orb by increasing and then releasing its personal gravity to speed it up down hills, launch it off slopes, and then glide it through the skies, seas, and atmospheres of a series of gorgeous, uninhabited worlds. Wordlessly, Exo One nudges the player to certain destinations on each...
If you're using a desktop computer, you're absolutely going to need a keyboard to do much of anything. And, there's plenty of benefit to having a standalone keyboard when you're using a laptop or tablet as well. The advantages of a physical keyboard over a touchscreen keyboard are numerous, but a standalone keyboard can also edge out laptop keyboards, which may make sacrifices in their design so they can fit within the confines of the laptop. If you're trying to work, browse the web, tackle homework, or just generally be productive, a good keyboard can make a huge difference in how effective and quick you are. All that said, it will come down to the keyboard you get. Some make it easier to type but could take up too much space to be...
It's been close to three months since New World, the musket-toting MMO, welcomed players to the beaches of Aeternum, a land of bears, cranberries and piratical skeletons. Squeezed into those two fall months were enough bugs, controversies, and economic crises to last other games an entire year. First, it became so popular you had to join a queue to play, then a bug allowed players to duplicate gold, then supply-and-demand weirdness led to some players returning to a barter-style economy. Now that player numbers have dropped, the developers are hoping to catch their breath. We spoke to a director at Amazon Games about what went wrong, what he'd do differently if he had the chance, and how (with small changes and a bit of diligence)...

We already knew that Valve had to delay the Steam Deck, its handheld gaming PC, from December 2021 into February 2022 due to the ongoing chip shortage. Thankfully, that appears to be the only delay for the product before its release date, as Valve confirmed the Steam Deck will still make its new release date with no further delays. In a recent interview with PCGamer, Valve designer Greg Coomer confirmed that the company will not have to delay the Steam Deck's release, with the first shipments still on track for a February 2022 release. "We're still bummed that we had to move from end of this year to beginning of next. But yeah, all the signs are pointing to us being able to ship in February," Coomer told PCGamer. Despite the...
A Halo Infinite player has discovered a glitch that enables local co-op in Halo Infinite's campaign, months before the feature is planned to be officially released. In a video posted to Twitter, and reported by Kotaku, user nobleactual posted a few seconds of split-screen multiplayer running in the Halo Infinite campaign. Along with the video, they also explained how you can pull off the glitch as well. Before you get too excited to try this for yourself, it's necessary to note there are serious limitations and risk after activating multiplayer. First of all, you can't progress the campaign's story or access FOBs when a second player is in the game. And, player two won't have a HUD, meaning they can't see weapons, ammo, health, or...
