As Rainbow Six Siege moves towards its seventh year, Ubisoft has announced that new creative director has been appointed. As revealed on Ubisoft's website, the game's current creative director, Leroy Athanassoff, will be leaving Siege to work on other Ubisoft-made games projects. Siege's art director, Alexander Karpazis, will step up to fill the role. This change in staff marks the third time that the game has introduced a new creative director over its almost seven year lifespan. In light of his departure, Athanassoff spoke briefly about his decision to leave the position. "I wanted to let you know that due to personal reasons, I will be leaving my role of Creative Director on Siege to pursue other opportunities at Ubisoft," said...
A fix for Halo Infinite's Big Team Battle matchmaking bug is on the way, says developer 343 Industries. In a post-holiday update post, Halo Infinite's Community Director, Brian Jarrard, has stated that the team has been continuing to work on a fix for the game's Big Team Battle bug that has been affecting matchmaking in the game. "As you know, we’ve been dealing with some frustrating issues with BTB nearly since launch and despite a few attempts at solving and mitigating before the holiday break, we were not able to get this fixed," explained Jarrard in the post. "While BTB has remained playable, there are matchmaking issues that increase with more players and larger fireteams have a low chance of successfully joining into a game...
For no particular reason at all, a whole bunch of platformers are on sale today. Is it National Kleptomania Day or some sort of Shin Splints Awareness Week? No idea. Just double-jump in and start collecting these in your cart, like so many crates/coins/studs. Shallow end of the genre difficulty pool is that Spyro Trilogy on Switch. The confidence-shredding deep end is Super Meat Boy on Steam. Enjoy! Phil Spencer thinks Netflix is smart for leveraging its successful streaming business and jumping into video games. In an interview with Kara Swisher for the New York Times’ Sway podcast, Spencer spoke more in-depth at video games’ continued growth and how it’s oftentimes a trendsetter for tech companies. Including how some tech companies look to games for inspiration. Take Netflix, for example, which announced it’s making steady inroads into games first by including mobile games in with existing Netflix subscriptions, and then by acquiring critically-acclaimed studios like Nightschool. Spencer believes this is the right approach for the streaming giant. “I think it’s smart what [Netflix is] doing,” Xbox boss Phil Spencer says...
It takes time to create a stunning video. From the first brainstorming session to scriptwriting, to actually filming – it's a lot of work. The last thing you want to do at the end of an edit session is to wait for your work to be rendered and ready to share with the world. A speedy laptop for video editing is about more than just the latest processor. You'll also want a powerful GPU to speed up exporting, but often that means you'll give up some portability. Although, that's not always the case, as you'll see below. The spec sheet of most video editing laptops reads a lot like a gaming laptop, with color-tuned displays, RTX 20-series GPUs, and cooling systems to ensure everything keeps running. But that's necessarily a bad thing...
Grand Theft Auto parent company Take-Two just bought Zynga in a practically unprecedented $12.7 billion deal, and part of the reasoning is that it wants the opportunity to bring some of its biggest console and PC game properties to mobile. In an investor presentation following the announcement of the deal, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the deal and presented a slideshow to investors. Under a slide titled, 'Product Portfolios are Highly Complementary', Take-Two shows how the company's respective games and studios can be used in tandem. Of particular interest to many fans will be the line-up of Take-Two games, with the likes of Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock and Mafia listed alongside a caption reading...
From Software's upcoming action-RPG Elden Ring has begun 2022 with a flourish by becoming Steam's most-wishlisted game. As spotted by Eurogamer, Elden Ring, which is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and includes world-building elements by Game of Thrones novelist George R. R. Martin, has become Steam's most wanted upcoming release. Slated for release on February 25, Elden Ring's move to the top of the Steam wishlist rankings ends a 12-month unbeaten streak from Techland's Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which maintained pole position throughout the entirety of 2021. Other notable entries on the list include Recreate Games' multiplayer physics brawler Party Animals, the PC release for Santa Monica Studios' God of War, and FNTASTIC's...
The many affordable tablets on the market can be handy when you just want a lightweight device to take with you on the go but also want an extra-large screen to enjoy media on. Unfortunately, standalone tablets just don't tend to have the same productivity chops of proper laptops, especially since they tend to lack a keyboard and many of the ports of a laptop. But, 2-in-1 detachable laptops offer the best of both worlds. With a 2-in-1 detachable laptop, you're getting all your computing hardware packaged into the form factor of a tablet, and you can get a seamlessly designed keyboard dock that turns the device into a fully functioning laptop. Better yet, by making your laptop and tablet one and the same device, you won't have to deal...
Footage of the Elden Ring character creator has leaked, and fans are pleasantly surprised to find it's a much more in-depth system than that featured in Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Leaked by YouTuber ER-SA, the character creator allows for the making of much more natural looking human characters than FromSoftware's previous games. Part of that comes from the graphical fidelity of Elden Ring; while arguably not quite on par with the PS5 Demon's Souls remake, the characters are far more comparable, and of a significantly higher quality than those seen in Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne. A comparison between recent FromSoft character creation results was posted to Twitter by fan SkeleMann: Additionally, a number of slider options allow a...
Today feels like a week to stay off the grid and catch up on your escapism. Blowing stuff up stylishly is always a good time, which is why I've recommended 80% off bargains like Just Cause 4 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Those who are looking to purchase Dying Light 2 on February 4, 2022, and beyond will be happy (or terrified) to know that developer Techland has confirmed it will take "at least 500 hours" to fully complete the game. Techland shared the news on Dying Light's Twitter, saying that the sequel to its 2015 first-person zombie action survival horror game is "almost as long as it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid." For those wondering, that walk would take around 534 hours. This news took the internet by storm and there were those who felt that 500 hours was a bit of a daunting mission to undertake. Techland quickly put those fears to rest by saying that the enormous amount of time to reach 100% was reached by doing literally...

Despite a relatively well-received run of games from 1999 to 2007, the Syphon Filter series has seemingly vanished, with no reboot in sight. But Sony appears to have had one on the mind recently, and even pitched it as a project for one of its studios: Bend, which made Days Gone. On a stream yesterday with Twisted Metal director David Jaffe, former Bend Studio director and writer John Garvin and game director Jeff Ross talked about Bend's struggle to get a green light for a Days Gone sequel as the studio's next project. While former Sony head Shawn Layden had apparently championed the game, Ross said that "as soon as Shawn was gone, Days Gone was dead." "It was very obvious that we shouldn’t be talking about Days Gone while we were...

Question Games – which was founded in part by ex-BioShock developers who went on to create The Magic Circle and The Blackout Club – is working on a new South Park game. As spotted by Eurogamer, Question has posted a job advert for a lead level designer to help make "a new video game set in the world of South Park." It's not clear if this is to assist on the South Park game previously announced to be in development at South Park Studios, or is a separate game entirely. We've contacted South Park Studios and Question for comment. Question is an interesting match for the long-running comedy show – aside from its developers' history on beloved games including Thief, BioShock, and the most recent South Park RPGs, the studio's own Magic...
The moderation team behind Battlefield 2042's subreddit has warned fans that they will not hesitate to shut down the space for a period of time if the level of toxicity on the feed continues to mount. The announcement comes only a month after the r/Halo subreddit declared its own temporary lockdown following similar toxic behaviour from some members of its community. As reported by PC Gamer, the warning from the r/Battlefield2042 moderation team seemingly comes after a wealth of angry responses were aimed in backlash to now-deleted tweets posted on Twitter by EA Global Comms Director Andy McNamara. McNamara's tweets appear to have been made in response to the Battlefield community after it criticized DICE for a lack of communication...

After a year of silence, Amazon is opening the vault on some details for the upcoming Fallout TV series. In a new report, we've learned that the series based on the post-apocalyptic RPG is set to begin production later this year. Deadline reported the production time and revealed Jonathan Nolan is set to direct the series premiere. Nolan is the co-creator of HBO's Westworld, which shares some similar dystopian themes with the world of Fallout. Additionally, Captain Marvel Writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Portlandia and Silicon Valley's Graham Wagner will serve as the series showrunners. There is still no word on the cast or the plot for the Fallout show. The Fallout TV series was first announced in 2020, with Nolan and Joy...
Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has announced it will remove a set of cosmetics for its "Cannibal" character (inspired by 1974's Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface) after Black players complained they were being used for racist harassment. The cosmetics which were introduced several years ago, include a set of unlockable skins for the Cannibal that changes the "face" of his victim that he wears on his head, much like Leatherface's signature calling card. The skins reference the original four survivor characters that players could choose from, one of whom was a Black woman named Claudette. Black Dead By Daylight players flagged that enemy players would frequently target them for harassment while wearing the...
According to users following Genshin Impact's new 2.4 update, players can no longer claim Battle Pass rewards on other platforms if the pass was originally bought on PlayStation. Genshin Impact supports cross-save between PlayStation and PC, and before this update, the cross-save feature included Battle Pass rewards. So players on PC and mobile could redeem Battle Pass rewards even if their accounts were created on PlayStation. Now, however, those players will need to redeem those rewards through PlayStation Network. When trying to claim Battle Pass rewards, players will be met with a message that says "Unable to collect using the current platform. Please use the platform on which you made the purchase." In perhaps one of the more absurd stories to kick off the beginning of 2022, the Pope has just watched a circus perform, set to music from Undertale. As spotted by fans on Twitter (and reported by The Gamer), the Pope appears to have started the new year the right way by watching a group of circus performers put on a display to the sound of Undertale's 'Megalovania'. For context, each week Pope Francis holds a General Audience. Often attended by groups of pilgrims, the Pope uses the event to impart his benedictions to those present in a number of different languages before sometimes also hosting performers to entertain his guests. While these performances vary and come in a range of varieties, the most recent featured a sllightly...
Being put on the naughty list might lead to Christmas being cancelled, but for video game NPCs and players alike, it seems that a simple bug can at least lead to it being delayed. At least that's the case for Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Yule-themed update, which is still yet to arrive for some players in the game. As reported by Eurogamer, the Yuletide celebrations that were supposed to kick off over the holiday period were unfortunately delayed for many players due to a bug in the game. The bug mainly seemed to affect players who had partaken in the festive event the year before, shortly after Valhalla had launched. Fortunately, however, Ubisoft has now stated that today's title update patch will fix the issue for all players, who...
Days Gone director Jeff Ross says that the game outsold Ghost of Tsushima, but that it was still treated like a disappointment by studio management. This week, Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch announced on Twitter that, since its launch in July 2020, the game has now officially sold over 8 million copies. That accomplishment comes just months after the release of the game's Director's Cut. While that's great news for the team at Sucker Punch and Sony, the milestone sparked Days Gone director Jeff Ross to speak out about his own contrasting experiences on a PlayStation exclusive. In a quote tweet about Ghost of Tsushima's success, Ross claimed that Days Gone had actually outsold the Samurai action-adventure title, but was...

Drinkbox Studios' new game Nobody Saves the World is a unique action-RPG that lets players take on the role of, well, Nobody, and transform into a host of different, wacky forms. And it's only a couple of weeks away from being released. The Guacamelee! developers announced that Nobody Saves the World will arrive on Jan. 18 for Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Windows, and Steam for $24.99. It will also be available via Xbox Game Pass on both Xbox and PC, so subscribers can hop in on day one to the action, which can be played either solo or in online co-op. January was already looking to be a solid month for Xbox Game Pass, with Mass Effect Legendary Edition coming to the service, but now subscribers can look forward to a brand new title as well. Microsoft and Ubisoft have announced that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is coming to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on day one. The Rainbow Six PvE spinoff is coming to Game Pass on January 20, the same day it releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5/PS4, and PC. Ubisoft is pricing Rainbow Six Extraction at a budget price point of $39.99 for players who plan to buy the game. Extraction is also introducing a cross-play Buddy Pass, where every copy of the game comes with two passes to invite friends to play for free for 14 days. Rainbow Six...
Flexible laptops aren’t exactly novel after the Intel Horseshoe Bend concept and the Lenovo X1 Fold introduced at CES 2020. However, Asus really surprised me with the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED as a seemingly normal-looking laptop but then it lifted the keyboard away to reveal a foldable laptop. The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED introduced at CES 2022 is essentially a 17.3-inch OLED tablet that folds up into a 12.5-inch booklet. It’s quite a bit bigger than the 13.3-inch Lenovo X1 Fold I saw last year, and obviously, the bigger screen makes it that much more usable for multiple applications at the same time. The larger size also allows Asus to introduce a full-sized magnetic keyboard that seamlessly snaps onto one-half of the device. From...
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject. Activision has filed a lawsuit in the Central District of California against cheat distributor EngineOwning. As spotted by The Verge, Activision filed its lawsuit against EngineOwning on January 4 as part of a wider push to limit and shut down software that allows players to cheat in Call of Duty: Warzone and other games released by the publisher. In the lawsuit, EngineOwning is described as a "commercial online business enterprise consisting of a German business entity and numerous individuals" and is accused of engaging in...
